Maria's head throbbed from the constant thinking. She loved her uncle dearly but the fights that carried on in her household just didn't seem to come to an end. From petty fights on a woman's duty to yelling matches that ended in tears and heartache (sometimes even hatred) Maria had found herself spending a great deal of her time in the woods. Many feared this great land due to it's treacherous beauty, others feared the darkness that lay inside the dark shadows of the trees. Maria never seemed to understand either fear and so nothing really kept her away from her time in the woods. It was nearly a year since she first started spending her afternoons here, and also when she found her little pet ferret, Jomjie. The little thing had been wounded and Maria decided to take him in and heal him. Ever since then the little thing followed her around, as if his life depended on being with her.
The sun was setting now, and the golden flecks of light highlighted the landscape. This was always Maria's favorite time to be in the woods. She had been roaming the forest all afternoon, and to end her distasteful mood, the beauty of the sun causing shadows of the trees to dance lightened her heart. The wind was much cooler now, as appose to earlier, and the forest took on a golden, fiery tone. She could stay here forever if she had the chance; but however mad she was at her uncle or cousins, her heart was calm, and it was time to return home. She looked down the large slope she had spent the last ten minutes climbing and her eyes sparkled as the light from the streamed she now looked at reflected the sun. One last look was all she needed before her night could be complete. The silence seemed to be broken though, and though she tried hard to concentrate her peace upon that vision of the water, Jomjie seemed to be interfering.
"What is it Jomjie!?" She said partly curious, but also very annoyed now. The creature just jumped around her feet and sputtered frantically almost as if he wasn't quite sure on what to do. "Stop your fussing, everything is fine, let's enjoy the peace before we head home for dinner." Maria bent down to catch Jomjie in her arms, but he simply snapped at her fingers. She recoiled in fear wondering what had gotten into her lovable pet.
Looking about, Maria pulled her arms around her body, in a self-hug fashion. She couldn't tell now if she had been waiting for hours or if the dark night sky was as sudden as she assumed. "This doesn't seem right..."
