I dont believe I've ever conversated with you in my short time of roleplaying here, but I (like everyone else obviously xD) know what you mean.
I'd really rather not go into examples from my own life because it's quite depressing to think about.
Here's a few things you can do.
If your a smoker; Have a smoke. Only one. Im not trying to promote drug's but I know just as well as any person who's ever smoked that it can calm your nerves for a bit.
If your a drinker; Dont drink. It'll only make it worse when the drink wears off.
If your easily amused and love to see some cartoon's die violently and quite humorously; go to youtube and look up "Happy Tree Friends". It's seriously a stress reliever. >D
If your social; talk to people. A good friend.

Just talk. You dont need to talk about the problem, but just anything that can get your mind off the problem.
Extra: You can simply tell yourself that your better than to be put down by somthing as small as this. (even if its a big problem, this can help if you convince yourself)
