Well, to avoid alienating one character from other rps, why not have a template that would favour different varieties of rp. With that they are more flexible characters that can just have parts taken out to suit certain rps. For instance when using a character for a sci-fi rp, just take out magic and alter the weapon if necessary. Or alter the bio to accomodate the storyline.
