Hatori walked into the slums of canyon city, easily the best place to find something, provided you didn't mind where it came from. If you had a bit of extra cash, you could get some pretty tasty food, as long as you didn't care who it came from. If there was a resistance, you could find someone in it here. Ignoring the beggars, who feared, respected, and envied the snake man rich enough to have a weapon; Hatori went to his favorite fence, the one man who could sell anything.
Before he even went to the normal contact spot, Hatori heard the sounds of a fight brewing. This concerned Hatori, as people were more concerned with not dieing from hunger to actually fight. Anytime you heard a fight, it meant someone stole, or someone tried to steal. Following the sounds of the fight, he noticed something that concerned him; his favorite fence was currently being attacked. Bad for business.
Hatori snuck up on the man, hired muscle by the infrared image he got of him, and gripped him in a bear hug. Before the muscle could even register what happened, Hatori struck down on him, piercing his neck to inject poison into the fool. Every time he struggled, Hatori's grip increased, till the man couldn't breathe. When he passed out, Hatori swallowed him whole. Snake men could digest quickly, and he had burned much more calories recently then he had taken in, so he could probably use a bit of extra fat. He wasn’t worried about any detrimental effects from diseases; snake men had a powerful immune system, necessary to prevent diseases due to the common cannibalism. Finishing devouring the man, Hatori spoke to the now recovered fence.
“You should be more careful. And you owe me now.”
The fence twitched; it’s not good to owe someone if you work on the underground. Too much chance it could get you killed. But realizing that it was Hatori, the man calmed down. Hatori had no use for favors, and would most likely ask for a discount next time he buys.
“All right Hatori, you can have a discount.”
“I need information.”
The fence twitched, mentally writing his will.
“Not now, but if anyone comes to you and you think that they are against Valcenz, you tell me. If you don’t and I found out you heard, then I will eat you.”
Hatori never understood the concept of lying to coushin a blow.
“Hatori… if Valcenz finds out, I could be killed.”
“Do you think I care?”
That was true. If there was something Hatori did not care about, it was other people. To put it simply, he was the most selfish person ever. He would do something that could help another, but he did it because gratitude has other rewards. Having people in high places owing you favors can save your life.
