The conversation flew quickly through her mind.

"California?" She inquired, a calming tone coming from her lips.

"A better life...there? How far is it from here?"

If there was a chance - a chance to move on, make a new life and leave her woes behind, she'd take it in a heart beat. She'd be able to finally let go the dreadful remembrance of her husband.

It was then her eyes were pulled to the chirper French woman. An eyebrow raised, slowly getting to her feet and looking back at George.

"California...That is where I will go." She nodded, pulling out of his arms.

"Thank you...for comforting me."

She turned to walk away, smoothing out her apron and fixing the bow in her hair.
