General News

The Player's Voice

In the last issue we asked what People's favorite part of role playing is. We all come to this hobby for a great many reasons, some for the writing, some for the fandoms some are dragged along by friends. What makes us stay? What do we enjoy about it? The answers were varied but interesting, see for yourself.

What is your Favorite part of Role Playing?

	<input type="button"
 value="Vermillion"
 style="max-width:200px;font-size:10px;margin:0 auto;padding:0px;"

 this.innerText = ''; this.value = 'Vermillion';
 } else {
 this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = 'none';
 this.value = 'Vermillion';
 }">

My favorite part of roleplaying is the feeling of stepping out of my own comfy shoes and becoming someone else. I'm myself all the time, but it's fresh and interesting to become someone new.

I love getting lost in my character to the point to where s/he becomes a part of me and I do not want to stop writing about s/he. When this happens, it takes up all of my inspiration and I will not want to write about anything else.

	<input type="button"
 value="Rose Swan"
 style="max-width:200px;font-size:10px;margin:0 auto;padding:0px;"

 } else {
 this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = 'none';
 this.value = 'Rose Swan';
 }">

My favorite part of roleplaying is the plot. It's crazy fun to see where your adventure is going and all of the actions and plot twists can occur when you least expect it. Combined with excellent writing, it can be an amazing part of any roleplay and is mostly what draws in all the fun people who come and roleplay with you. Plots can easily lead to friends.

	<input type="button"

 { this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = '';
 this.innerText = ''; this.value = 'jel2658';
 } else {
 this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = 'none';
 this.value = 'jel2658';
 }">

I would have to say that my favorite part of roleplaying is that there are no boundaries. Here may be games that are considered RPG games, but you always have to follow some sort of storyline. In Forum Role-Playing, anything can happen, which makes for more exciting and thrilling adventures to be had.

	<input type="button"
 value="AkiBlue"

 { this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = '';
 this.innerText = ''; this.value = 'AkiBlue';
 } else {
 this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = 'none';
 this.value = 'AkiBlue';
 }">

What I like most about roleplaying? The first thought that comes to mind is the ideas of others. Roleplaying with different people around the world is an experience in itself. I enjoy learning how others think and their perspective of how things go. It broadens my horizons, and makes me think. Sometimes, when a fellow Rper gives an idea or their opinion, it'll be something I've never thought of and from there the stories are pretty interesting.
So maybe, overall it's just the learning experience I get.

My favourite part of role playing is at that key moment, one and a half months after the creation of a new game, where Byrd Man can no longer hold back his sweet tea-laced tears and he breaks down crying over Master Bruce's inactivity.

"I can't stand it! I just can't stand it!"

It reminds me of my own dysfunctional family at Christmas time. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

For me, it's the interaction with others. It's just so fun to get into a story with another person, explore the motivations behind character behaviors, even surprise them with little secrets here and there about your creations. I most enjoy receiving feedback on the creativity I attempt to put into my characters and races.

Role-playing is and has always been a good conduit for my creativity, and I'm honestly not sure what I would do without it. That's about it.

For me it's two things I guess. I enjoy reading fiction, and I enjoy writing it (with varying levels of attention span and success ;)) but it's the cooperative storytelling that has me sticking at it. The writing about your character and their surroundings and then having inspired writers add their aspects of the tale on and bounce it back to you. Maybe you all share a general idea of where the story is going, but even the most focused of stories invariably wanders around a fascinating creative landscape before it reaches its goal. Or maybe you're so caught up in the moment - so busy dealing with what your character is thinking, experiencing, doing NOW that... you don't worry about 'the goal' - you just feed your character words and ideas and see where they and your fellow players will take you.

The other thing I dearly love about roleplaying falls rather heavily on the GMs - I love exploring their creative worlds. It doesn't have to be a completely original creation, as long as it's internally consistent and has some of the GM's own take on that world. One of my favourite roleplays at the moment is almost completely canon, but because the GM is making sure all the NPCs align to her vision and the players follow the world's lead, it feels like a living world and one I'm rapidly getting hooked on seeing what happens next in. So, inspired players and creative world-spinning GMs for the win :
)

Every now and then, a roleplay hits an achievement that roleplayers are proud of. Whether it is an anniversary, completion, or even something has simple as post count, they need to be celebrated. Let's take a look and see what each of these people have to say about their accomplishment.

 } else {
 this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = 'none';
 this.value = 'Behind Legend of Renalta with Brovo';
 }">

What is Legend of Renalta about?

Once upon a time, there was a princess named Kouri in a great and tolerant kingdom known as Renalta. The Gods and the kingdom lived in harmony for thousands of years, until one day, a new archangel named Typhon wished to have the princess' hand in marriage. The princess declined, and the archangel, being young and infatuated, was enraged. He returned the following night and annihilated the kingdom from existence with the support of an overly eager tyrant of a God, the most powerful of them all, known as Lucipher.

The princess, however, was spared from the bloodbath by being frozen in a magical cavern located at the bottom of a pond. One thousand years later she awoke into a new world beset by strife and misery. She gathered companions, such as the brave farm boy Dean, and the cunning lycanthrope pirate Alexandria, and set off to defeat the Gods by reaching a frozen temple in the northern lands and banishing them, once and for all.

What is it about this Roleplay that has kept it alive? (The characters, plot, players?)

All three. The plot is broad enough to attract all sorts of characters from vagabonds to villains, knights to knaves, princes to paupers, and has a clear direction as to where the players need to go to resolve the conflict.

The characters are beautifully constructed and incredible memorable, especially from the players. I mean, where else are you going to find a princess who wields magical fire betrothed to a lesbian lycanthrope pirate? Or how about a pair of half-succubi sisters whom are nursing a young thief back to emotional stability after she lost her cowboy lover on a sea made out of blood? Or how about a powerful 800 year old vampire Drow who rides a lizard that was named after the princess? Or, even further still, an educated doctor trying to find a way to bring back his dead wife who is trapped in a summoner tome, always hinging between madness and love?

Seriously, good luck finding that sort of stuff elsewhere, yet it occurs in Renalta pretty much every day and ranges from dark and grim to comedic and warm.

The players are also an important part of the role play, beyond the obvious "you need good players" I've grown to appreciate the majority of them for who they are. For example: Tempest is fiery and determined, Kadaeux is an evil genius, Gat is unorthodox and creative, Andi is sensual and always has some (un)pleasant surprise up her sleeve, etc. I could go on and on about how much the players have done, but maybe I should just point out this post here that is 25, 588 words long. Took us all about three weeks and a couple of very late nights to pull off. Needless to say, coffee and I were on a first name basis during that three week period.

Yet, what did I get out of that? I got to see the players struggle and become creative in the face of almost certain doom. There is more character growth in that single post than there is in most role plays in their entirety. I mean, someone gets their arm ripped off inside a giant sand worm trying to preserve a book containing his dead wife. Another guy doesn't even survive; he gets blown apart into a thousand little chunks.

We also kill an angel by tearing him apart limb from limb, and by the end of it all we end up rescuing two player characters from an almost certain death by execution.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work and sheer mind numbing creativity from the players in their machinations. So yeah. They're important. Very important. Arguable Legend of Renalta is just as much their story as it is mine.

If you could change one thing about the roleplay, what would it be?

Nothing. I like it just the way it is... I mean, maybe if I could make posts happen faster, but three players live in The Netherlands, two or three in Australia, one in eastern Canada, three more across the States and I live in western Canada. Time zones do become a bit of an issue some days.

What are your favorite moments?

Too many to list--the entire RP to me is one of my favourite moments. I suppose Alex and Kouri's romantic subplot could be considered a big one though. Two people fall in love, and that love has carried them through hell and back. I suppose it is heartwarming to think that even in the darkest of moments, when the whole world wants you dead, when even the Gods themselves are twisted and tyrannical and orchestrate genocides of millions... That love can still blossom, and can still bring a hidden power where none was before: Hope.

But then, that is just one of many scenes of hope.

How have you encouraged others to stay with the roleplay for three years?

By keeping it active and personally talking to each and every single person that I could. By encouraging every person to plot and plan and scheme, to give me their ideas. I mean we have a couple of running gags in the role play for example. A new one is the rat skull charm, it was made up by Kadaeux. Everywhere we go there is usually at least one reference to the rat skull charm. If we're in a marketplace, they might be for sale. If we defeat a boss, it might be in his pocket. No matter where we go, though, there is a rat skull charm. I've even considered putting it on Lucipher's desk if I can ever find a reason to have Lucipher own a desk.

There's also the (in)famous Kouri Plushie. It is a plushie of the princess that the young thief, Mikan, carries around to tease and taunt people with. It typically ends up in retrospective scenes or comedy scenes.

Then, then there's the little fuzzball... The marmot known as Thane. He was the familiar of a Druid named Elsha who died earlier in the role play, and ended up sticking with the group. He's cute, and fuzzy, and is basically the team mascot. There's also a joke that Thane is also the team's ladies man considering he can hop on and cuddle with any woman he wants in the party. Is it perverted and stupid? Yes. Is it funny as hell? Oh very much yes.

Do you see this roleplay continuing or concluding any time soon?

Yes, and no. It all depends on how quickly we can resolve this part of the story. The party has one more area to get through before we reach the finale, at which point the RP will end and I'll put up the sequel I've been working on for the past half a year or so. I give it about six months to a year left as a liberal estimate.

The sequel is also dependent on how many people die in the finale, since it's a suicide scenario and nobody has plot armour, it's quite possible that everyone, princess included, will die.

...Kinda hoping they don't though. I like all of them. o_o

What do you hope your players will get out of this roleplay other than a good time?

Two messages that my role plays continually scream at the top of their lungs.

Everything dies, and every action/word matters.

I mean, we've crafted a story that has lasted three years. People have come, people have gone. Characters have grown, and so have we as individuals grown. Conflicts have gone from simple to complicated, loves have come and gone... I suppose, in the end, this is my message. That everything which comes, goes. Everything that arrives, departs. Everything that starts, ends.

Everything that lives, dies, and is replaced with something new. Sometimes better, sometimes worse.

Enjoy life while it's here, because in the blink of an eye, it's gone, and then all that you've done is all that will be left of you... Best hope it's a good message.

Do you have any advice for other GMs and players?

Never quit. Never. Never never never. No matter how bleak things seem, never give up on your idea. If it falters and collapses, bring it back to life. Learn what failed, what worked, find the players that stuck with it to the end and invite them to help you with a revival. Keep reviving it, keep breathing new life into it, keep changing it until it works.

No idea is too stupid or too cliche. I mean, my most successful role play of all time is a role play about a GMPC who started out as a Mary Sue raging against authority figures because the authority figures blew up her entire home for very weak reasons. It's ridiculous and over the top and cliche as hell... Yet I made it work. I grew the Mary Sue into a good character with the assistance of the players interacting with her, I explained and filled in plot holes as we encountered them over the course of the role play until it became a sophisticated story about humanity versus power, and faith in the face of tyrannical behaviour from the Gods, and sexuality, and politics, and religion, and birth-rites, and monarchies, and... The list goes on and on and on...

Hell. I'm going to quote one of the most brilliant writers/directors of our time. He says it more eloquently and more hilariously than I ever could.
JMS: And yeah, that little closing card is going to remain on the show for its life...which will be long, long after its detractors (and admittedly myself) have gone to dust. What matters is that you remain true to your vision.

What is Return of the Force about?

Return of the Force is an alternate history of the Star Wars universe in which the Sith did not follow the "Rule of Two" but instead caused a vicious attack on the Jedi Temple, the consequences of which have rippled through history in which both Jedi and Sith are equally reviled and hated by most of the universes inhabitants. Most of the player characters, but recently not all, are either Jedi or Sith trying to make a new future in this slightly altered universe. Recently however I have released an "expansion" pack to allow non-force user characters to be made, their skillsets differ from the Jedi or Sith obviously in that they lack force abilities, but use skill and technology to make up for shortfalls as well as lacking the stigma that haunts Jedi and Sith.

Interestingly, one of the more enjoyable, and challenging parts, was trying to keep the "history" roughly intact without the Sith or Jedi influences, a task that has proven to be exceptionally challenging at points and in some cases has to be glossed over entirely as some canon characters histories were dependent on a Jedi or Sith to make it happen, and yet in this history other Catalysts were needed to make it happen. This catalyst largely being the shadowy background figures the players know only as the "Architects" who have taken Palpatine's role in orchestrating the Clone Wars instead.

What is it about this Roleplay that has kept it alive? (The characters, plot, players?)

The characters and plot have played a large part in keeping the RP alive, but ultimately the biggest part was the dedication of Sarzu who took over GMship for a duration when I had lost inspiration and the players who managed to keep it moving along until it hit again.

If you could change one thing about the roleplay, what would it be?

If I could change one thing about it? (Hides all the work in progress on expanding the rules and scope of the RP) Nothing... nothing at all. Jokes aside it has been in a degree of constant evolution since it began, the backbone of the RP, as with most of my RPs, has been the ruleset behind it but unlike prior rulesets which only really mattered at the start the Return of the Force's has continued to be applied as time goes on and events became more and more involved. To the point we're bringing on Gat as Co-GM and I'm writing out a full set of GM-Toolset rules, though a lot of it is interpretive. Additionally rules are being made to expand the scope of player possibilities from simpler quest-based to also owning industry and potentially even taking planets one day.

What are your favorite moments?

Ah, there are a few really good moments, from the time that Genais, on a major quest decided to just walk into a "bank" to scope it out without investigating it beforehand that turned into a clusterfrak chase through the facility that ended in the theft of three of the "Big Bad" guys ships. Another was when Andi was doing a mission that should have been a simple milk run and nearly lost one of her minor characters who force lightninged herself by accident. Yet another, in a still ongoing story arc in fact, was the Holocron of the Sith Lord Goreamas acquired by Sarzu, which was connected to Genais's earlier mission in the "bank". Many of the players while they do interact with one another fairly frequently, their characters also do their own thing leading to dozens of fun and utterly amusing tales.

How have you encouraged others to stay with the roleplay for its duration?

Whips, Chains, Cerebral Cortex Control Collars The players have done more for each other in that regard than I have, but a contributing factor I would say is the fact that players are clearly and distinctly rewarded for their actions (or if it goes exceptionally badly, punished) though despite it being possible we haven't had a minor character death yet, people keep saving their re-roll for that for some reason.... Which brings up another thing that has encouraged players I feel, nothing is set in stone, player interactions are (unless the story calls for it) highly influenced by the dice, any combat, diplomacy with NPCs, walking down stairs after drinking copious amounts of corellian alcohols and even training your people are subject to the cruelty of the dice gods, Sarzu nearly lost a minor character doing a simple training roll to this. This calls for a lot more interpretive work on the GM handling an event but ultimately comes out more fluid, natural and fun in my opinion, and seems to be the prevailing opinion of my players too.

Do you see this roleplay continuing or concluding any time soon?

Oh I see it continuing for quite some time to come, expansions are already being written and are going to make themselves felt and potentially change the "landscape" of the RP. There is even some discussion about it elevating into a quasi-nation RP, though ambitious I cannot deny it as a possibility in the future.

What do you hope your players will get out of this roleplay other than a good time?

What else do I need my players to get out of it than a good time? In the end, fun and good stories are all it is really about, maybe make a few more friends who choose to join the RP, but there is no real lofty goal or subliminal messages. (Only because I haven't settled on which ones to include.) In the end the goal really is for the players to have a good time, I enjoyed making the rules (and as any one of my regular players can tell you, i'm rarely NOT making a new set of rules, my time and dedication to it sometimes works, sometimes it goes without special notice, and in one case it literally crushed itself under its weight of complexity.

But each time I make a new set of rules I learn something new. I find out something I can apply to the next. I find changes I can make. I get ideas. And all of it spills forth into a well of experience I use to craft the next set of rules along the path. As an example, I learned that certain levels of complexity are highly undesirable, when a player or GM would theoretically have to maintain a database to track the players you've gone too far (and then some), this has led to my more fluid current constructs I avoid going into too much detail, widen the scope of interpretive takes on the rules.

What I need to do now is something awesome, something I hadn't expected to try, and that is to bridge the gap between a character based RP and a Nation one. Give players the power to grow in influence, strength, numbers, let them escalate from doing everything themselves to becoming a small nation, to taking power and delegating to others....

And try and do it without melting my own brain.

Do you have any advice for other GMs and players?

None that I haven't given before. Let go of the reins a bit don't railroad or be controlling, if you have rules, as I do, allow them to be flexible and with room for interpretation as the need requires, but a strong one is, randomness. Have something to throw a little randomness into the RP, don't just pre-determine the results of actions, take up a dice and roll it out, let chance decide. (Of course this does have its limits. If someone goes "I'm going to put this end of the lightsaber in my mouth and activate it." you can bet every dollar you have that a dice would not be rolled and "You die so horribly all within 2D10 metres of you begin explosively power-vomiting in tribute to your successful removal from the universe. Or because its gross."

She is a protector of heroes, and has been alone for many years. She is rescued by the lanterns from red lanterns and the pair learn of a coming darkness; they team up with Maggie to stop it. They have met many characters along the way and have learned a lot about themselves.

What is it about this roleplay that has kept it alive?

I think what has kept the story alive is that the characters are one of a kind and that the story doesn't really have a set ending yet. We are going with the flow and each of us add to the plot in different ways. It makes it a lot of fun to write, wanting to see what comes next.

If you could change one thing about the roleplay, what would it be?

I really don't see the rp ending anytime soon. We have a lot of things to still happen before that, and I think we are having just way too much fun within.

What do you hope your partner will get out of this roleplay other than a good time?

I think just a good time majorly, but also both of us growing as writers. I personally have grown a lot since joining the guild and I feel the more you write with different people, the better you will get.

Once in the world their was a place called Fallen Shadow. Here a man, or so forth, God, created different species and creatures. From Shapeshifters, Fae, Sirens, Dragons, Reapers, Humanoids, anything imaginable. But as time went on, the place became anything but pleasant. A handful of these tried to take the building and creator down, but failed, losing most memory of it all. As time went on another escape erupted and added in another handful of supernatural creations. The mix of young teenagers to well grown adults laid the grounds for a war between the normal humans and the supernaturals. After destroying Fallen Shadow and it's creator, they moved on with their lives.

Now it has only been a few months since Fallen Shadow has been destroyed. The supernaturals let loose on the city have been collected at an underground base and trained into their own control. The special group who started it all have taken seperate paths. But it is only a matter of time before they are pulled to the underground base themselves and told of the news. There was a war to come. They were the faces of a revelation. They were to train and become soldiers, to lead the fight and fight for everything they had. This was it, the harsh journey to freedom and peace. The bloody pathway to rights of living and breathing without being hunted and killed in the shadows.
Load your guns, take a deep breathe, charge forward, and fight.
This is war.
This is a revolution.
This is your chance.

Three thousand years have passed since the breaking of the world, three thousand years since insane male channelers nearly destroyed the human race and all of civilization leaving nothing but burning rubble and scattered survivors, three thousand years since saidin the male half of the One Power, the very energy that drives the Wheel of Time was tainted by the Dark One's counterstrike, condemning every male channeler to madness and death. Civilization is thriving again, the world is filled with nations, with marvelous cities, peaceful villages and sprawling empires. This world, the third age is far from the utopia that where rumored to exist in the Age of Legends but humanity have risen from the rubble and rebuild.

The world is not without dangers, as always far in the north the blight threaten and the inhuman servants of the Dark One come in hordes to attack the Borderlands every so often and if the proud Bordermen did not stand their ground the world would be filled with screams and terrors, on a more mundane level there are always some nation squabbling with another, some haughty lord wanting more land and attacking his neighbors, no the world is not a safe place, but it is stable, for the most part, and filled with hope.

Allot of the stability of the world, and it's hopes and ironically also it's woes comes from the same place, the White Tower, a magnificent building located in the middle of the island city of Tar Valon. This Tower is home to the Aes Sedai an ancient order of female channelers. Many commoners fear the Aes Sedai and their powers, calling them witches, perhaps in some ways they are right to fear, but through it all the Aes Sedai dedicate their lives to the betterment of the world and the fight against the Shadow. Though political maneuvering they steer the world this way or that, not always in a beneficial way but always with the best of intentions.

Perhaps the Aes Sedai's most important task however is not guiding kings and councilmen, no it is preventing a new breaking. Channeling, the ability to touch the One Power is a blessing in a girl, it will give her perfect health and a life spanning centuries as well as power beyond what most people would dream of, but when a man is born with the gift of channeling it is a curse. Male channelers still go mad, and sooner or late no matter how well his intentions or high his morals he will begin to destroy with the powers he have been blessed with. Even a single insane channeler can burn whole towns to ash or boil a lake to nothing. All Aes Sedai but in particularly those of the Red Ajah dedicate themselves to finding and gentling men who can channel. Gentling destroys a male channeler's ability to touch the One Power, but it is a cruel process not only horrifically painful but it also leaves the victim in a deeply depressed state, few men who have been gentled live more than a few years, they either commit suicide or their bodies just give out on them as they loose the will to live. Once someone have touched the One Power they can not live without it. Yes what is done to male channelers are a cruel fate, but what alternative are there, though many of these men are innocents, one day they will destroy and burn everything that have been rebuilt unless they are stopped.

Now a group of Aes Sedai is sent out hunting after a man who can channel, and you character will be a part of this hunting party. You can be an Aes Sedai out to do a grim duty, or perhaps a proud Warder. Perhaps you will rather play a sly merchant who is paid to be a guide for the hunting expedition, or a wise Ogier out to observe the works of the White Tower for a book he is writing, or perhaps you are a common soldier just trying to earn enough coin so his family can eat, that is up to you, but whoever your character is he or she will embark on a journey to do a terrible deed, a cruel deed, but still a deed of utmost necessity. It is a cruel mercy that is given to male channelers, but it is the only choice open if they are not to be allowed to break the world all over again, it is time to do your duty to the White Tower.

We are all folk from a small town that's smack dab in the middle of three counties, each the territory of its own gang. And nobody likes to shit where they eat, so all the deals, the drugs, the whores and the bloodshed comes right to our door.

A group of locals, under the leadership of an old veteran form their own MC in an attempt to protect their town.

We live in scenic Greenbrier, Arizona. It was quiet up until the new freeway got finished, and now the Caballos de Acero are running up from the south, smuggling drugs out of Mexico, and guns back in. And they're running right through our town to do it. The cops don't touch it, and I think we all know why. Their only opposition is the Devil's Hand gang to the north. Of course, when they oppose each other, people get hurt.

Donald Morhaime, a Vietnam Vet and Greenbrier local was hit in the crossfire from a fight between the two warring gangs. His old friend and comrade, Jack Harlow has called those he trusts to his bar a few hours later.

This is a biker gang RP, but it's about the start of one, and about good people doing bad things. I want few or no hardened criminals.
I don't want to see a bunch of messed up people, this RP is about the process of messing people up. If the RP lasts long enough, it may turn into a downward spiral of chaos and death. Should be fun.
Anybody with suggestions or previous experience with this particular subject is more than welcome to make suggestions and help out.
He begins to speak, but stops abruptly, a blank expression overtaking his face. The camera zooms out quickly, taking the direct spotlight off of the president. A few tense seconds pass, and silence begins to overtake the large crowd in front of him. Suddenly there is a sharp scream, followed by several more as the camera zooms back in on the man that had apparently had a mere fit of stage fright. It's quickly apparent that it is nothing of the sort, however, as his eyes are overcome by a black hue and he begins to speak again. His voice is foreign now, though, in much lower tone with countless echoes behind it.

"We've known many appellations throughout the ages, answered to countless callings. The Mayans foretold our comings by the eclipsing of the Bright One. Innumerable souls were sacrificed by the Aztecs to sate our thirst, and across the seas Egyptians erected prodigious monuments to our glory. Others named us individually, as the Greeks did in worship to Zeus and his charges. Everything you begged of us, we gave graciously. We gave you the rain and light for your crops. WE gave you the plants and magics for your healing. WE GAVE YOU LIFE. In return we asked only that you remember us, and for millennia we lived at peace; a coexistence the likes of which is unimaginable. Then came your betrayal, the downfall of all we knew brought on by mans' hubris: the discovery of your petty 'science.'

It was gradual at first, at least to your kind. It started with your obsession of the sky, of the stars above, the things you felt unattainable. From there it only escalated, and in our forms, to which time means little, we but blinked and we were lost to you. Then came your most abhorrent transgression, your 'witch hunts.' As if turning your backs on us was not enough, you saw fit to seek us out across land and sea, and through stake or stone you drove out what few followers remained. In a fit of rage and fear at what you no longer understood you sought to destroy us, even if that meant murdering your own kind in the process. And so we left, leaving you in the silence you so desired.

But that golden solace is now to be broken. Will we return to reclaim what is rightfully ours: your respect. Hear this warning now, and heed it well, humans. We are coming, a force the likes of which your generation has never seen. You may pray for peace, and said to the right ears it may be granted, but there are those of us who demand payment for your sins. Payment for a debt that can only be settled in blood..."

As quickly as it began the man's eyes return to normal, and he collapses to the ground. As men rush to his side and the crowd, all just moments before seemingly trapped in time, bursts into a panic, the camera cuts to commercial.

Elsewhere...

Your eyes scan page after page with a vigorous tenacity matched only by the growing anxiety within. It can't be, right? You can't be one of them.

"But you are."

There it is again, that subtle whisper in the back of your mind. You take a break from the computer monitor in front of you and shake the voice from your head, clinching the bridge of your nose as you close your eyes tightly and force them back open. You've been at this for hours, trying desperately to find the answers you seek. You've heard the rumors, stories of strange behavior and even stranger occurrences: people spontaneously combusting but suffering no harm, that one woman filmed supposedly flying. Hell, there was even that rash of bank robberies in New York City where the tellers were seen on tape handing him everything in their drawers, with no recollection after. And the president, who hasn't seen that video? Something is happening, and you have to know what it is, so again you dive into the sea of speculation and outright lies of the internet.

One particular blog catches your eye...

"I'm telling you, this has all been foretold. Those gods every ancient civilization had and worshipped, at times offered sacrifices to? Yeah, those guys, the ones we laugh at or glorified in countless movies? Well they're real. Every one of them, and hundreds, maybe thousands, more we don't even know about. Loki, Zues, Itztli, Ra... for all we know even the Boogeyman. Look, what's important is that they aren't myths, and what's even more important is they've come back!

But there are rules to these things, okay? These spirits, if you will, are bound by their own laws, just like we have laws of physics, gravity, that sort of thing. Only their laws supercede ours. The main thing to know is they can't just manifest on Earth. I can't tell from my research if something has changed or if they never really did in the first place, but it's pretty obvious they can't anymore. Instead, they need a host, a person just like you or I. I'm not sure what the exact process is, but I would guess that it's just a simple matter of preference when it comes to choosing. Once they select their host their fate is forever tied to that individual. If the person dies, then the spirit's connection to their plane of existence is severed, and they are trapped here in ours forever. Ever heard of ghosts? Yeah, bingo. Now I've heard there are certain rites or rituals that can be performed to undo such a possession, or that maybe both parties can agree to end the union, but I can't say anything for certain on that.

I can tell you absolutely, though, that these spirits can teach us amazing things, and grant power beyond our wildest dreams. You've all seen the news reports that have been blacked out now, heard the government dismiss them as hoaxes and what not. Even that whole presidential blunder was just CGI. Ha! No, that's what they want you to believe, but it's not true. These spirits each have their own ancient knowledge and abilities to impart, but it doesn't come without a price. You see, these powers, and their strength, only come by allowing the spirit to take a certain level of control over you. So, in a nutshell, give them no control, they give you no power, but give them ultimate control, and you can have ultimate power. There's the catch though, because once they have full control they don't have to give it back. Then you're just a husk, a shell of your former self. I know, right?

Now I have been told of spirits that can manifest, those that don't need a host in the same sense as the others, but I don't know as much about them. It seems like they have summoning rites or phrases, and that when performed correctly can be summoned to our plane. The control is different here, because instead of giving or keeping the control from them, it's a constant battle between the summoner and spirit to fight for it. It all depends on the mental, and maybe even physical, strength of the summoner, and if they lose... Well, let's just hope no one is that stupid.

I've got to go, there's so much more to figure out. This won't be up long, they keep taking them down as fast as we can put them up. Hear my words though, what's coming next is what's really to be feared. And that, my friends, won't be the doings of any gods. Be safe."

Impossible, you tell yourself, but you already know it's the truth. But how do you know?

"Because I've already told you..."

---

So, I know it's probably going to take quite a bit of explanation, and I encourage any and all questions, but the premise itself is rather simple. Basically, these ancient spirits and gods that were once worshiped have turned out to be real, and they've decided to make a very public comeback. The above was just a different way to introduce the idea to everyone, but the blog basically has it right. These spirits need a host to exist in our realm, and that's where our characters would come in. It's more of a symbiotic relationship than an actual possession, and the spirit needs the host a lot more than the host needs the spirit, with both stuck together. But that really is where it gets tricky, because if you want the power you have to let the spirit take control, but do you get it back? And that's where it gets interesting, because that totally depends on the spirit that has chosen you.

I would like for people to think outside of the box when it comes to spirits, and the powers they may confer. Because yes, it is, or will be, about the powers to some extent, but it's more about the relationship between your character and their spirit, and the way they interact with the ever changing world around them, that is what I want to focus on. Any god, demon, or that sort of thing from myth or lore, or if you want to think up something on your own I'm up for ideas on that too, but let's limit them to one. And lets steer clear of the big ones like Zeus. I'll let you know which are off limits later, depending on NPCs. From there you'll have to give them a personality, almost a good or evil agenda if you will based on wanting to take control, and if you've picked something with an established lore you should stick to that.

The main thing about the powers is I don't want this to devolve into some sort of comic book war, where everyone has superpowers with laser beams coming out of their eyes and capes to help them fly, because that's not what I want this to be about at all. I want more archaic, ancient sorts of powers. Elemental control and influence, insinuation, I even have an idea about a summoner I'll discuss with someone I feel is competent enough for it. Telekinesis and psychic tendencies if done right, clairvoyance, that sort of thing. I don't want to stifle anyone here, just want to get you going in the right direction, so feel free to throw your ideas in. I promise I'll try and help fit them in if possible.

The best way I can explain the relationship between the host and spirit is to compare it to the Master Chief and Cortana. It's a voice, ever present, and you can't really shut the voice out. It will come down to your characters willpower to keep them from going insane, or from letting them take or not take control. That's what you'll have to decide, but each spirit should likely be played from the standpoint that they want their host to live. If they die still attached, they are stuck in this realm forever, and I can't imagine any spirit really wanting that.

To start all of our characters will have a very limited understanding of what's going on. They may not know they're possessed, may not but not by who or what, and will have very little to no actual control of their powers. Lesser willed characters may have visions or mishaps, but it won't be under their control at the beginning. Spirits are able to try and take control, but ultimately it has to be given, and these inner wars will take their toll. We will all be learning, and we will go from there. One thing to note is that spirits can sense other spirits, though they don't necessarily have to tell their hosts. And when it comes to using our powers, when/if it gets to that point, against another person inhabited by a spirit, it will be a little more difficult, since you're also attempting to attack or influence a spirit as well as a person.

I'm planning on starting it out most likely with the government taking action against the ones that are showing signs. I've got a few ways to play that out, and I'm still deciding exactly how to do that. First, though, I'll need some interest.

Again, I know it's a lot to take in, and there's a lot more I'll still have to explain I know, but if you've made it this far and want to know more then let me know. Or if you have questions, then by all means shoot. I want to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Also, I've got a few ideas for characters if anyone is interested. One, like I said, revolves around the whole summoner bit, and the other is more of a clairvoyant/medium. If you're interested let me know.

He had dungeons and dragons and a lack of people to play with so on a long snowed in vacation he drafted my sister and I to play with him. He was a lousy GM and I never really got into it but I felt that there was something there, some elusive promise if fun we hadn’t tapped into. I tried a few times after that with some friends but was always left wanting. Fast forward a great many years and I’d moved to Boston with a friend and didn’t know anyone. One of my roommates was heading off to a Vampire: the Masquerade game and on a whim I asked to go along. I figured it wouldn’t suck and I might meet some people. I way underestimated how much fun it could be. The GM was great, it was all about character and role playing and less about stats and Combat as my previous attempts had been. I was hooked. Another player and I started exchanging in-character Emails, I had an in character blog that I shared with everyone in the group but somehow didn’t find online RPing until a few years later when my table-top group disbanded due to life. My GM and a few others stuck around but there wasn’t as much RPing as I wanted. I pestered my GM for more until he told me to look up Forum RP. Like many here I googled Forum RP and found RPG. It was a revelation! I could RP to my heart’s content, fitting it in here and there and thus could get more without scheduling issues. I have never looked back.

''I started to roleplay about five years ago. It all started because I was trying to find what the new album was of a favorite band of mine, that time. I think it was Sum 41 or Rise Against, can't be sure about that detail. So as I went and searched a friend, a lovely looking friend to be precise, passed my house and as I waved back at her I missclicked and came into a thread where somebody had started a kind of After Action Report kind of idea, but with a bit of story behind it.

I knew the person who had started the thread and still without asking I kind of replied on it. It was not at the level I'm today, which is still crap at times I admit, but somehow I decided it would be funny when he would read that. Most likely I had the feeling he would say it was nice and just continue his own story, but instead of doing that, he made his characters reply to mine, while I didn't had a CS or such. A bit surprised and amused I decided to reply again and we attracted the attention of somebody else. Before we knew it we started to make a kind of RP out of it and it became quite a success. Sometimes I still think about it when I am writing a post, thinking how even better it would've been when I was good as I am now or when we had known of the collab site and other things that can make a RP nice.

However, I wish that nobody ever is going to reveal my first RP posts... Though they are in Dutch, my native language... They are horrible.
I can't even read them without being ashamed of how bad I was back then. Luckily.... Only one person does know the forum I came from, a very good friend of mine, but never has seen those posts.

That is my story and how I began to RP... Ashamed by the fact I can be easily distracted by a nice girl ( back then) and that my Dutch was even worse then my English is now.

How I got into roleplaying? Now that's an interesting tale. It took quite a few steps to get to the sort of RPing I'm doing here today.

Hard to say where the actual RPing began, really, but if I were to trace it back to its furthest roots, then I guess my first experience with anything close to roleplaying would be thanks to this cheap flash game I got into around 7th grade called Dino Run. Like I said, it was just a free online flash game, and the game itself had nothing to do with roleplaying. What got me into RPing, sort of, was the multiplayer section of the game. It was a simple setup, allowing players to join group runs and play competitively, and it contained three simple chat servers. One of those three chat servers, I remember, allowed for RPing. And the RP held there was uh... interesting, to say the least.

The RP held there - the first RPing I ever did - was IM roleplay. But it wasn't IM roleplay between 2 people or a small group of people, or even a large number in an organized group- no, it was a disorganized hodge podge of RPing, with a dozen or so interactions and stories happening all at once, but completely independent of each other, in a free-for-all RP chatroom that featured characters and concepts from every genre as well as canon characters (lots of canon characters), all in one big conglomerate... thing. :p Getting into it was actually pretty easy- your username was basically your character's name, and your character could be literally anything, and you'd call out one other username specifically in order to start an interaction with them, and then do literally anything you wanted, ignoring everything else that went up unless it was clear that another person or group was trying to interact with you. Don't have a username that works well for a character? Make an alt. It was not only allowed but also quite common that each (RPing) member of the site would own a large number of alts, each one representing a different character. I, too, had plenty of RP alts, all of them separate from my main account that I used in the non-RP chatrooms and for just playing the actual Dino Run game.

The RP there was... odd, and certainly incredibly different than what I'm doing today, but it got me into RP. So much, in fact, that I eventually reached a point where I really didn't play Dino Run anymore; I only logged on to RP. That same game is, also, what got me into RPing in the form I currently enjoy- forum RPing. See, while there was no place for anything close to forum RPing on Dino Run's limited setup, I did meet a friend on the site who invited me to a Webs website he made. It was pretty much just a hangout site, with some forums and forum games that existed for laughs, and only about five members. And somehow along the way, I ended up joining a couple other Webs sites that some of my IRL friends had put up- and that little circle of friends hung out on all three or so of these Webs websites, which all served about the same purpose and had pretty much the same people in them, so there was hardly a difference between them. And, in the depths of our strange little forums, we somehow wound up RPing before we even really knew it was called RPing.

Our first "RP's" were... yeah, at the point where I'm not sure they'd even be called RP's. The really early ones were still chat-like, and still had that nature of complete randomness that my friend and I carried over from Dino Run; nonsensical stories with a thousand different elements thrown in, in some weird mix of non-canon and canon and... yeah. It was weird. Another thing, and I don't even remember where this came from, but we all kind of, shared characters? Everyone played everyone, like it was more of a continuous story than an RP. I'm really not sure whether the early Webs RP's I did with my friends would count as collaborative writing or roleplaying- but if it was collab writing, then it was really bad collab writing. And if it was RPing, it was really bad RPing. :p Yeah, it was real sloppy, especially at first. But despite that, we still share some fond memories of it. I can even point to a friend of mine, Cheetay, whom I technically met IRL but really bonded with due to roleplay, who began RPing with me on Webs, came with me to every RPing site I joined since and still RP's with me here on the Guild. Even after all these years and the massive strides we've taken in our RPing, we still remember and quite often reference a good number of inside jokes from threads way back on Webs.

Though I don't recall exactly when or how, our RP's significantly shaped up by the time we were in 8th grade or so. We eventually grew to calling it RP (when in its earliest stages, we didn't- I don't know what we called it), and our threads were organized a bit more like they are here, which each of us owning designated character(s) that were ours alone to play, with character sheets representing them and even separated IC and OOC threads. Despite this, though, none of us ever looked for RP elsewhere. I guess, back then, none of us ever really thought there was any, since we all just RPed in a secluded part of the internet with just ourselves, and never really saw forum RP anywhere outside the handful of sites we did it at.

Though by chance, I managed to learn there was indeed more. I somehow stumbled across a site called Mweor somewhere between 8th and 9th grade. Looking back, it was a fairly small community with 8000 members or so (at least it was back then), but to me back then, that was pretty massive. :ezlol: Like I said, all the Webs sites consisted of an active community of ~5 members. I'd never been on a real forum before.

At any rate, Mweor was sort of like a Neopets-esque online pet owner thing, except more indie, less commercialized and less childish. The mweors were cat-ish things; you could buy mweors, you could buy them accessories, or extra body parts like wings or fur markings, you could put one up for stud and breed more mweors- you could breed them for looks or breed them for battle. Whatever the case was, most members hoarded mweors like you hoard pokemon, so people wound up with, well... a lot of them. And after I'd been on the site for a good chunk of time- lo and behold! They had an RP section. People could RP as their mweors. Now this was my first time really stepping into an actual, moderated RP forum with people who actually knew what they were doing. I got into small squabbles with the local RPers quite a few times just because the Webs RPing was so laid back by comparison, that terms like "powerplaying" were things I'd never heard before and didn't expect to have directed at me. Thankfully I managed to quickly adjust to the RPing there- and I loved it. I loved forum RP among such a huge crowd of people. It was like falling in love with RP all over again- and next thing I knew I'd done the same to Mweor that I did to Dino Run- after a certain point, I only showed up to RP. :p

Then, December when I was in 9th grade... I was bored. I was waiting for replies on all Mweor threads I was in, and I got to thinking that I wanted to find more places to do this sort of thing. I really liked forum RP, but I needed to find a site that was all about it, rather than it only being a small side-section, and one that had a decent pool of members, as opposed to the Webs sites which had been abandoned by then.

So I Googled 'forum RP'.

And now I am here.

Heh, even just my time on the Guild alone is a huge story, throughout which I've grown and learned a lot, as well as made a lot of great friends, but I'll save that story for another time. :ezlol: From my humblest beginnings, you now know how I made it to an RP place such as this. Sorry if it was long-winded, I always find it fun to tell.

Dragons exist. Or at least, they used to. But that was a long, long time ago. No one believes in them anymore. Here in the modern world, it’s pretty much universally believed that they’re nothing but a myth. So what happened to them? Most of them just died out, for a lot of reasons. Many of them were slain. However, not all of them simply died. Many, a good handful of them, were not killed, but rather put under a spell by the powerful mages and wizards of the day. This spell was designed to seal dragons away in the form of a small stone figurine, only a few inches tall. These figurines, although they heavily resembled the dragon they contained, were completely harmless. The dragon inside could not escape, and, was practically dead within the seal. The ones who cast this spell, in various regions across the world, were not concerned with the figurines it left behind. They assumed the seal would last forever, and, now deemed harmless, these figurines made it around the world quite a bit in the next few centuries- as they were bought, sold, and, as time went on, people eventually forgot that they were anything more than little stone figurines.

However, these seals would not last forever. Centuries, yes, but not forever. Many factors weighed into the weakening of the seal, such as the pollution of the earth, as magic comes from the earth and a weaker earth means weaker magic, and just the sheer amount of time that had passed played into the degenerating seal as well. But the point is that now, in the 21st century, the seals that hold still-living dragons in a deep sleep are beginning to break down. If the seals are removed, it is possible that the dragons may reawaken as their true selves in the modern world.

Meanwhile, the magic of the old days hasn’t completely vanished for humans either. It’s true that no humans still truly believe in magic, dragons or anything of that nature, however the ability to use magic has still passed down through the generations, albeit hidden, as well as weak and unrefined. The people of that day didn’t understand it, but magic ability is a genetic trait. The wizards who performed the spell passed their power onto their descendants, but, the strength of that power degenerated over time. Not only because a lack of knowledge on the subject over the generations led to a lack of refined ability, but also because of all the non-magic users that the DNA mingled with, diluting the blood of the mages until it almost vanished completely.

Today’s magic users are few. Plus, their magic ability is so small, so insignificant, that most go through life without realizing they have it. Even if they did, the ability is so weak now that there’s hardly anything it could be used for, not to mention a lack of teachings to refine that power. However, should any one of today’s magic-users come into contact with one of the sealed dragons- a perfectly normal-looking, non-noteworthy dragon figurine, they would have just enough power to provide the one thing that the dragon needs- the Spark.

The Spark is a crack in the seal. It starts breaking it down. It is enough to wake the dragon within, bring him to consciousness, but, the seal breaks in stages. The dragon will start out awake but made of stone, then transition to a body made of flesh and blood, but a small one, then increase in size and ability until the seal is completely gone, and the dragon has returned to their normal state. However, this transformation will still take quite a while. In the meantime, the human’s job is not over. They have just found an actual dragon, after all, and, with the dragon so dependent on them in the early stages, it is up to them what to do with it. Furthermore, it’s up to them to finish breaking the seal. The dragon needs them for it. Bonding with the human is what causes the seal to continue to break. Of course, it’s not assumable that the road to friendship between human and dragon will be smooth, that is what must happen eventually for each dragon to reach freedom.

It made made me wonder. He was out there, steel as his only companion, killing creatures swiftly, like they were allergic to his blade. But there was nothing. And when he killed the beasts, he simply turned them into nothing as well. All around - nothing. How was this helping humanity, like he thought? Was it not just adding to the emptiness of the world? You couldn't kill those...things with compassion, that was sure. But why instigate more deaths? Let them take what they will - don't make them hunger for more. Humanity was powerless enough as it was.
In a world whose name has been lost with its peace, humanity has decayed. Sacred and ancient texts have since been burned to forgotten-ness, and few now lay covered in dirt and ash with its skeletal proprietors. Civilization still exists, but is fragmented across the world. It now consists of scattered villages and towns, broken down fortresses and scarred Waystones, with few cities. The world, while its original name is lost, is now called Alenta by its people. Alenta is dark, unexplored. Unknown. Creatures stalk the world; many of the common beasts and demons have common names. However, as you go further out, there are many more undocumented species, and the less information available until you eventually end up discovering new monsters- though, living long enough to spread word of their existence is rare. Common animals still exist, though they adhere to no strict habitats, and simply live where they might survive. Mammoths and other large creatures congregate deep within Alenta, protected by the Giants and Colossi it lives near. While many have given up hope on turning the tides against the creatures, people have come to terms with their predicament and even the smallest village or town has guards and patrols posted. People may live in fear, and they may long for something better, but they have accepted their situation. They are contented.
Story

Well, that's the world of Alenta! The story would take place in one of the few remaining cities, Bitewind.

Bitewind is large, especially in comparison to the many villages and towns over yonder. However, there is no "government" other than a young man named Tyrr who helped greatly in both making the city, and establishing the walls which keep it from being overrun (in fact, he is known for a great many things- also putting together the original Wall-Watchers). He is no king- if compared to modern days, he would be like a governor. He was forced to his "throne" but serves the people amicably. Because of Bitewind's importance to the world and its people, it is one of the few areas where trade exists. Trade caravans only travel to each of the few large cities, stopping only at the towns that are on their path. Many caravans need guards to defend against monsters and other threats, which makes Caravan Guards a profitable job, though you most likely would not find many willing in this city.

The story, as said, takes place in Bitewind. The characters will, for some reason or another, begin/arrive here. Later in the day, more commotion than Bitewind would have ever seen washes over the city. At least half of the Wall-Watchers flock toward the city's half-destroyed temple, where a man is being arrested, for almost the first time in ten of the city's years. The characters hear something in there head. Words are spoken inside of their minds, the same to all of them. Help me. After the source of the voice is realized to be the captured man, it is too late, and he is brought deep into the dungeons.

Soon, the characters would embark on a journey that is seemingly suicide. Along the way they will explore the unexplored world of Alenta, find ancient scrolls who hold ancient secrets, and slay creatures as small as a fox to enemies as big as a twenty foot, bloodthirsty colossus. They will be pushed to limits, betrayed, and hurt. But mostly, they will try to brave, understand, and survive a world that they know so little about.

The Labyrinth

There is a tale of an old land, far, far from here. In this land was an even older labyrinth, a large structure of deep sites where dungeons were built. However, for the inhabitants of this land, they knew not who its creators were, and what the purpose was. The ancient labyrinth held many mysteries, constantly shrouded by rumors and speculation. Many believed it held treasures. Others foresaw terrible creatures that lurked within its depths.

Another mystery is one of few facts for the entirety of this dungeon: Once a year, on a single day, the lone, sturdy gate opens for a small group of adventurers to explore the halls. These adventurers are typically explorers, scholars, survivalists; all for the goal of finding out the history and purpose of the labyrinth. Yet every year, no matter the composition of the group, never has a single soul returned to tell of what lies inside. No one knows how many floors there are, nobody knows if it is worth the resources and souls, but everybody knows one thing: They are dying to find out.
Welcome to the Labyrinth Roleplay! This is my first GM experience, so please excuse any amateur mistakes I may make, but please bear with me as I do have extended general RP!

Moving on from that, this is an adventure! Yay! You have a sandbox creation for a Character Sheet, all I ask is nothing too over-the-top, as the less your character is able to do, the more challenging the forthcoming dungeons shall be. There is no map, so we’re doing this old school! Grab a pencil and paper to map out where you go and where you have been. Also be sure to record your inventory and anything else that could come up as hints.

This is what some would call a “Medieval Fantasy” Roleplay. Magic is common but only the most dedicated can use it powerfully. Explorers and fighters are sought after for their expertise, as well as scholars and many others. Be creative, but stay within reasonable lines ;)

A friend of mine, Flynn, is the Co-GM. He will have limited knowledge as to what happens next and how to move on, but he is essential for keeping the adventure at a set minimum pace. Remember that this is Casual, so I ask for a minimum of one paragraph (as I know there will be times when you feel like there isn’t much to do but a post is a must).

Rules:

1. Standard RPG rules apply. General dickery won’t be tolerated.

2. Post at least one paragraph, but be as detailed and lengthy as you like!

3. Please be active, maybe about one post a day. Real life can be a hassle and I understand, but realize this is another commitment. Let me know either OOC or by PM whether you’ll be offline more than online in the coming days.

4. Remember, it’s a story! Have fun with it.

5. If you have read the rules, type your character’s name within the CS in cyan!

Notes for Character Sheet: Magic is allowed, but it is rather limited. And by that I mean weak. Almost every type of character may be able to cast magic, though it varies on type and interest.

I am always accepting ideas for this story, as I want it to be completely legitimate and have strong emphasis on keeping everyone interested. PM all ideas and such to me, I will alter where applicable. Not interested in being an explorer? Then take up a spot of Co-GM and help me plan out the place! Also, important, I will largely be a GM for this, with any NPCs to be controlled by me. I shall leave the exploration to you fine folks.

Name: Self-explanatory (I hope).

Age: Earth years, preferably.

Appearance: You may use an image or type it all out, or even both! Go crazy! Don’t forget height and weight (important factors)~

Profession: Medieval Period, so whatever existed back then, including fairy tales.

History: Has your character travelled far and wide? How’s mom back at home? You know what goes here, and preferably a paragraph at minimum.

Personality: You may use a few words to describe your character or duke it out. Let me know how your character would generally react to impulsive actions, how they are socially, and so on.

Starting Inventory: Please make it according to your profession. Stock up, but don’t burden yourself.

Other: Some people like Pepsi. Some people like Coke. The GM thinks that Democracy’s a joke.

Though it is a fantasy RP, don't expect everything to work out as planned. Repeated mistakes can cost your character his/her life, if not endangering others as well. . .

BAM!

Alright I've been molling over a rather interesting NRP idea for sometime. Something that has, I believe, never been tried before. I've been in my fair share of NRP's, most of which seem ever enthralled in the Sci-era, or sometimes modern, or heavens forbid, WW inspired NRP's. The alliterative to these being some sort of fantasy Mid-age NRP. Now with this experience, I have often seen a great deal of these simply die before their time, giving NRP's a bad taste in most people's mouth. But it began to occur to me one of two reasons for their untimely deaths was, one: The GM had to much on his plate, or interest simply faded after the initial honey moon was over, and for awhile I often wondered how the latter happened so often. One reason I believe was it was lacking a certain drew to it,. that makes shows or movies set in those time periods so interesting. That being interesting stories and characters that make the tale as a whole all the more engaging.

So then came my NRP idea that I would hope would help solve at least one of these problems.

The idea of Age of Glory is as simple as it is a bit ambitious. Rather then have players control large swaths of land and people (and control them in often unrealistic ways I some times find) players instead will play in the shoes of only one, with some liberal use of NPC's, and no I don't mean that there will only be a restriction to kings/queens. In Age of Glory, much like the game that helped inspire the idea, people can play the role of anyone from outlaw to lord, from general to mercenary, from king to freeman/merchant and everything in between. The idea is still in it's infancy, and will be set in a time line less often used, that being late Dark Ages to Early Mid ages. An interesting time period to be sure, all within a fantasy world. (and by fantasy, no I don't mean goblins and elves, just a made up alternative history. I will likely not even have any fantasy races, but if I do they wont be the norm/over used bunch.)

Have not really decided on a name yet for the Continent/world, or the realms that will exist in it. In fact I leave the nation making to players interested in this idea, basically, if there is enough interest, players will pitch their own nation idea's, and the group as a whole will vote on which we will use. These nations should fit a "theme" or culture so to speak to make it as flexible for other players as possible. The more interesting the concept, the more likely people will want to be apart of said nation in one fashion or the other. I am of course open to any other idea's people might have of course, and will be looking for any one interested in being part of the GM team. I'm hoping with this idea, with players playing as dukes, nobles and even lords, there will be a fair focus on individual's and their goals, along with the more realistic appearance of a feudalism society. Just because the marshal or king wants all the lords and their armies to assemble for a campaign, necessarily means they will do so, though they are of course obligated to. This also opens the floor wide open for a greater dynamic of both politics and alliances, especially for players who enjoy those kind of things or perhaps even a simple trader/merchant? And for those more militaristicaly minded who always wanted to live out their dreams of being s viking, why not go for the pirate captain or bandit leader!

It's my hopes with a RP with this much openness and freedom, it might succeed where to many other NRP's have failed in the past. Still if this idea interest anyone feel free to express that interest!

I'll get a basic NS and CS going if enough people show interest. The major brain storming will take part here.
