Default A Study into Evil and Corruption OOC

RP Time: Saturday, 1:02 PM

New Flash: RP not demolished, because it turns out most people are still around, just not posting for some reason...

A Study into Evil and Corruption *MATURE*

Before I begin, please forgive me if I become a bit garrulous. For those of you who are lazy or apathetic who wish to skip everything long, revealing, and interesting, I will clearly mark the point in which I begin to detail vital information for the RP.

Preface:

“ A Study into Evil and Corruption”, is a roleplay that will function, at least to me, exactly as it sounds. I would name it something more… fantastic or romantic, but looking upon the cold, formal, unfeeling title, coupled with the fact that it certainly looks different, led me to keep it as the title, I like it in an artsy way, basically.

As for the meaning behind the words however, I would like to explain. Throughout the history of man, we have been faced with, created, and dealt with evil. Starting prior to prehistory, man has had moral choice, however, the choice, to many, has been extremely difficult. The basic decision to do good or bad can be clouded by numerous factors (Will the right thing hurt more than the wrong thing?; Will anyone really suffer if I choose evil?; What is the right choice anyway?), and has been explored by every major culture, religion, and even period of thought. Christians believe man is born evil, and there are exact standards of right and wrong (some say “exact standards of right and wrong” sarcastically). Romantics believed evil was a product of society, and that nature is pure. In the US, age restrictions are placed on the consumption of alcoholic beverages, not the case for countless other countries.

However, despite many dissimilarities and inconsistencies, many agreements have taken place. Most societies deem murder inappropriate, rape to be inexcusable, and robbery to be degenerate behavior. Also, I’ve noticed, it is a popularly held belief in the US, of the secular and religious alike, that morals have gone to hell in a handbasket. Drug usage, underage , violence, it is all commonplace and disturbing. I have to admit, even I have a tough time finding a virgin in a highschool freshman class. However, I personally believe that, although it’s hard to believe now, this kind of behavior is not unprecedented, but rather unrecorded.

Characters in literary works didn’t spit or swear until the end of the nineteenth century, and it wasn’t until the 1900’s that a protagonist would commit a crime. Does that mean this kind of immorality was nonexistent? Of course not. One puritan, in his diary, confessed to numerous occasions of adultery, and although showing remorse, continued his behavior. Pope John XII would often rape his family members, and even went so far as to turn the sacred palace into a . In ancient Rome, Christians and captured enemies were thrown into pits to be mauled by lions, for a mass audience of spectators’ amusement. And if the argument is made that we have moved on from the barbarism of antiquity, one must simply look to the turbulence of America in the 1960’s, or especially 1968. Even the 1950’s, and age commonly known by its calm, clean, upstanding appearance, was riddled with knife-toting greasers, race rioting, and the underage sex. So evil has been omnipresent through our race’s history, and does not look as if it will leave any time soon.

But this is evil on the whole, and my goals concern evil on the personal level, or, rather, your person specifically. I am aware of, or have access to, the general ideas of evil by the various cultures, religions, and thoughts of the world. However, I believe that perceptions differ on the personal level, as each individual is blessed with a unique life experience, and that is my reasoning for taking my study to this place

Fortunately, although the book I’m researching for will have its slow moments, I intend for this roleplay to be much more fast paced, so I’ll add a few elements strictly for entertainment’s sake (for me as well as for you). If you have actually read up to this point, I thank you and commend you for your patience.

Backstory:

That’s the basic idea, but the story behind it goes a little deeper, and this one’s for you fantasy-fans. Two hundred years ago, on the spot in which the small town now lies, there was a brutal murder, carried out by three thrill-seeking teenagers. The victim, a woman of around forty, was jumped, beaten, raped, and then stabbed. The woman, however helpless she was at the moment, was, in fact, a witch. In her pain she screamed and cursed them in an inhuman tongue, and they were cursed. Removing their knives from the long dead corpse, the boys turned on one another, performing indescribable horrors to one another until only one was left. Dripping with blood, the boy shambled back into town. He had seen too much, done too much, and was himself guilty for the entirety of it. But in this, he took a certain joy, exploding with ed pride, the boy shouted into the night, turning his knife on himself, and carving two symbols, one in his forehead, and one in his chest.

The graphic scene was discovered the next morning much to the horror of those who saw it, the witch and two bodies, mangled nearly beyond recognition, and the true horror, the boy in the town. The body was about as mangled as the others, but there was something about it, something that made the onlookers feel as if they were held down and stabbed themselves. The feeling lasted only a moment, but it was so substantial that few forgot it. The bodies were cleaned up by law enforcement and buried. That night, a terrible spirit gripped those who had seen the symbols carved into the boy’s body half the town awoke during the night, frightened by the images they believed their own minds had produced. Although the images were horrible, no one suspected it was anything beyond an unpleasant reaction to the images they had seen.

The next morning, a man blinked, and saw glowing red, the symbol that had been carved into the boy’s skull. He was shocked, believing it to be a trick of the mind, some fluke of psychology, but, to his horror, when he closed his eyes and kept them closed the image remain for as long as he dared not to open his eyes. Similar events happened all over the town, and soon one man was seen talking about the phenomenon to a trusted friend, the passerby who overheard listened to the description and noted that it sounded like the one he himself saw. The next day, the man that had been speaking of the image was found, hanged in Town Square, a note pinned on his shirt that read, “ I am sorry, Petunia”. Similar deaths happened all over town, and before long, people learned not to speak of the symbols they saw.

They had children, and told them nothing of the symbols. The children, knowing nothing of the uniqueness of what they had, shrugged the symbols off as a normality, no different from any other person. Over the years, the town grew, as did the population of those who saw the symbols. The town had a sinister air, although it appeared perfectly normal on the surface. The murders became few and far between, and, through the generations, became public humiliation, limited physical violence, and a simple feeling of maliciousness toward those they knew bore the opposing symbol.

However, as the good hearted and easy-going townsfolk were otherwise peaceful besides their tendency toward powerful maliciousness upon the discovery of an enemy, there was a powerful amount of bad mojo. While the crimes against one another became more tame, the general tendencies of the individuals became more corrupt. Some fundamentalists believe the devil speaks powerfully to some people than others, and in this case, it is very true. At this point, the town was composed of “bad people”, who, although living in an upper-middle class suburb, were truly villainous.

Sorry for summarizing the event a bit blandly, but If I actually told the story in a tasteful way, I’d be going on for pages upon pages.

Basic Situation (vital):

This is a modern roleplay in which two factions face off against one another. I can’t think of good names, so I will refer to them as the Tigers and the Cobras. They aren’t gangs, just groups, cursed groups, and extremely opposed to one another, quite extremely. When a member of either group closes their eyes, they will see a symbol that will either remind them of a Tiger, or a Cobra. However, although they themselves know what groups they are in, they will not know any other members. Of course, to keep things from being obvious, some will be in neither group. If an opposing group member learns of the symbol of an enemy, they are obligated to do everything in their power to harm them mentally, physically, and spiritually. Of course, if you do something especially heinous and make yourself obvious, you could get picked up by the cops, and jailed, so try to keep things secretive.

Setting (vital):
A relatively small town, specifically, the high school, houses, and hangouts of the teenagers of the town. The Senior High is composed of about fifteen hundred students, and is the only senior high school in town. The sophomores and freshman will also play a part, although their high school won’t be as significant. The hangouts include, but are not limited to: The town square (shared by everyone), the parking garage in the square (not used often, as the adults of the town don’t like the kind of kids who hang out there), the mall (stomping ground of mall rats), and a multitude of personal hangouts, like the “haunted house” (more on that later).

Characters (vital):
The teenagers of the town will be the focus here, however, there will be some adults, of course less focused on. Other than that, the main split will be between those who were born corrupted at birth, and those who were not. For those of you who wish to play someone cursed, I will assign a sign, don’t tell anyone else of it unless it becomes relevant in the story (it will). The sign will in no way effect your behavior, but the curse will. For these, think of all the worst people you’ve ever known, and form their traits into a being of pure malice. However, don’t be too crazy about it, we want this subtle. Of course many will brag about their actions and conquests, it should be hard to tell who is evil because of their curse, and who is just a dick. This brings me to my next point: because of their surroundings, the uncursed people of the town will still be affected by the influence of those who are cursed. Therefore, the majority of the people in this RP will be, as an onlooker would say, “ On the wrong road in life, bound for trouble”. There will be some less evil people, but, of course, everyone’s human.

How to join:
There can be a pretty large amount of people because of the scale of this whole thing, so I shouldn’t have to worry about excluding anyone unless it gets out of hand (altogether unlikely). Just send me a PM, a personal message if you wish, but you have to include a character sheet, along with a request to be cursed or uncursed. If you want to be cursed, I will send you what symbol you see, once again, it makes no difference which one it is, and once again, don’t tell anyone unless it comes up in the story. If it’s way unbalanced, I may have to give you the opposite position, but once again, it would have to be way out of hand, and that’s unlikely. However, in the event you get what you don’t want and still want to join, you have two options. First, you could embrace your status and make your character according to it. Or, what would be interesting, is that you could not change your character at all, for example, an uncursed individual who consciously chooses evil, or a cursed individual who suffers with their psychological need to do terrible things, but fights to overcome them, or some other variation. I will accept you and add you to the roster

Rules:
1. Don’t piss me, or anyone else off.
2. If characters fight, PM among yourselves and predetermine a winner. If you can’t decide, tell me and I’ll flip a coin. The last thing I want is two people in the OOC arguing about what each other can and can’t do. By the way, there will be fights
3. Don’t piss me, or anyone else off.
4. Because of the set up, there will be all kinds of immoral activity (I’m talking about what the general population considers immoral), so there could be scenes of sex, and maybe rape. DO NOT GRAPHICALLY DETAIL THESE ACTIONS ON THE ACTUAL RP PAGE IF AT ALL. These things happen, but we’re not shooting for porn, and we’re definitely not trying to fulfill your dream of getting laid in text. Just give a hint that they are going for it, maybe a little psychological explanation and commentary while it’s being done, but nothing explicit, and bam, it’s over.
5. Don’t piss me, or anyone else off.
6. Concerning rape, I do not condone it in any way, but I expect there to be characters deranged enough to do this, so if one character is assaulted, and one of the authors wusses out and decides this is going too far, the victim will escape, or the rapist will discontinue his actions, depending on which party the wuss belongs to. I can’t blame you, it takes some guts on both sides to write this kind of thing.
7. Don’t piss me, or anyone else off
8. You can go pretty overboard, but still, try to keep in mind that your character, cursed or not, is a human capable of moral choice, and keep the psychology in the realm of realism.
9. Don’t piss me, or anyone else off.
10. I don’t know how strict this site is about content, but if someone sees something terrible that I let fly, feel free to tell me. And if you’re a mod, and have seen anything wrong with my rules, tell me so I can continue to be legal.
11. Don’t piss me, or anyone else off
12. Pay attention to the build section. I’ll allow builds of all kinds, from almost unrealistically muscular to anorexic. You just have to explain why that is in your characterization (Some guys take steroids, others work out a lot, others eat a lot, others do nothing, others eat nothing). Also, this will affect the outcome of fights one way or another, so keep it in mind.
13. Don't piss me or anyone else off
14. DO NOT PUT ON EITHER FORUM WHETHER OR NOT YOUR CHARACTER HAS A SIGN!! An exception to this rule, is if your character, during the actual roleplay, divulges the information.

I believe I'll join, this seems to be a good opportunity to explore a character personality I've been thinking of introducing for a while.

My character will be very conflicted between good and evil (so to speak). I'll get my sheet and post up soon.

------

Voila!

I thought about making her younger but seventeen seemed a good age for what I have in mind.

Build: Very thin, underweight, slender, not quite anorexic, not very strong

I'm not entirely impressed with the post, her character is quite....predictable on the surface, I need to dig deeper and that will only occur through interaction with another character. Course, I could always do some flashbacks, they're always fun. We'll see, hope you like.

{Edit, for what? The third time?}

Wrote a new post, I like it a lot more, hope you do too ^_^

Approved, you may start when I deem we have an appropriate amount of people, I'll give the word on here. However, I must ask that you edit out your comment about the symbol, that's supposed to be classified information known only by you, me, or to other characters if your character decides to divulge it.

No, Don't delete anything, just make it so that no one knows whether you have a symbol or not using the edit feature at the bottom of the post.

Yeah, I'll let you slide on that first message because there wasn't any interaction, if I was to get it deleted, it would just be back in the same place when we officially opened. Good to have you though, your post was pretty interesting, I look forward to how this will progress.

Took me a while to get into her head, hopefully I can stay there for the duration.

How many more people would you say are needed until we can officially get this under way? If I don't stay in her head it'll be difficult to get back in - if you know what I mean.... ^_^;
