Crisis More of the Same The year is 2021. Technology has jumped through the roof, with fusion power eliminating a good deal of scarcity, leading to the development of the world. Advanced medicine eliminated the most deadly of diseases, and science acted as a temporary savior. However, with more technology only came more war. New weapons of death emerged in the form of humanoid mechas, universally referred to as "Gears." The two current superpowers, the Western Alliance and the Eastern Confederation now find themselves locked in a cold war that will decide the fate of the world... Ideologies, scarcity, and religion have long been prime inciters of war. However, the cause of war this time around came from a delayed sense of self-destruction. In the year 2012, mysterious black shapes sighted by a scout probe near Jupiter. They appeared to be spacecraft of some sort, and they destroyed the probe by unknown means after its final video feed was sent to NASA. This, of course, caused a massive panic. And panic led to war. Doubt, combined with a sense of self preservation, caused the superpowers to collide. Both sides feared that, if they simply united, one would backstab the other when all was said and done, leaving them with an undesirable tyrant reigning over the new world. Thusly, both decided unanimously to fight in a war years in the making, over aliens who may not exist, mistrust, and clashing ideals. Gears History : Gears were first created in Britain as a combination of infantry and tanks, a walker that could outmaneuver conventional vehicles in any terrain. Standing about a vertical tank and a half tall, the original "Knights" possessed clumsy bidepal designs and wielded large, heavy machine guns and hammers. Ridiculed by most military tacticians, they proved their worth in the Battle for Berlin in 2014. Since then, the Western Alliance forces used them for victory after victory until they hit Russia, in which the Eastern Confederation countered with their own "Dragon," a similiar Chinese design. Since their successes, Gears have been constantly developed and upgraded. The dream of the humanoid weapon was finally realized, and they became better and better, from adaptable battlefield parts and weaponry, to bold new systems. The Gear itself has its parts divided into a few categories. Body : All of the important machinery is located in the body, along with the cockpit that takes up half of its area. The Gear runs off of a streamlined fusion engine, powered by portable fusion cells. Pilots often carry spares in storage compartments located on the back. Arms : The arms are the workhorses of the Gear, used to carry and switch weapons, as well as imitate an infantry soldier. Created with mechanical joints and gears to closely resemble a human arm, they usually accomplish good familiarity. Legs : There are a few different leg types. The basic, classic Gear legs are just like human legs, used for running and jumping. They give a lot of maneuverability and stability in jungle and mountainous domains. Sliders, skatelike peripherals, can be added to the legs for added mobility, highly increasing urban effectiveness. Hovering legs are currently in development, which will be able to give the Gear the ability to hover over most obstacles at the cost of maneuverability. Interface : The cockpit contains all of the controls needed to manipulate the Gear, including movement levers, hatch control, visual monitor, and a radar map that detects the heat signatures of hostiles and friendlies alike. Also included is a fingerprint scanner to avoid Gearjacking. A powerful new experimental system is the NIS, Neural Integration System. This system directly connects the pilot's consciousness into the Gear's CPU, allowing total and full control over the Gear as if it were the pilot's own body. It increases the maneuverability and lethality by incredible levels. Weapons : Gears often use larger versions of staple infantry weapons, including rifles and rocket launchers. Some Gear pilots also favor using the giant hammers of the Knights for close quarters combat. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Units Western Alliance Knight : The original Knight, 7 years old, still sees some use in National Defense. Not very popular any more due to its clumsy movement and ineffective handling of weaponry. Usually large, black colored humanoid frames with a distinct torso shield. Largest humanoid Gear still in use. Knight II : The backbone of the Alliance's Gear force, the Knight II is a very reliable mobile infantry unit. Sporting a spiffy humanoid design, colored a dark black and wielding a detachable shield over its torso and boasting speed, toughness, and firepower, the Knight II is a coveted Gear. Smaller than its predecessor and the Dragon, the Knight II stands at about 14 feet. It works off of a streamlined fusion engine, with a large enough back-mounted storage container to keep up to three extra cells. Slider modules are often added for urban ops to increase mobility. The primary weapon of the Knight II is the M20 Assault Rifle, a burst fire, self-loading rifle that fires armor piercing rounds, exemplifying the Knight II's versatility against vehicles and other Gears. Its machine gun-like design contains a clip storage bay underneath its loading mechanism, able to store five clips for fast reloading. All in all, a powerful weapon. The secondary weapon of the Knight II is the Warhammer. First proving its use against Confederate tanks in Berlin, the Warhammer has kept its position as the reliable armor-crushing weapon. It crushes Gears and tanks alike, and can be held in one hand to allow for shield usage. Eagle : Developed in America, the Eagle is slightly larger than an average Gear. Built with verniers and given lighter armor than Knight II's, the Eagle is used for quick strike missions against Confederation bases. Black with a tint of orange, usually decorated with endless graffiti by their pilots. Eastern Confederacy Dragon II : The improved Dragon, notable by the dragon's head motif on its chest, is the workhorse of the Confederacy's army. Fast, strong, and reliable. The Dragon II is the Confederacies staple Gear. Standing at 17ft, the gear is humanoid despite being call the Dragon. The standard for this gear is very high since it is the main one sent to battle the Alliances 3 types of gears; each with their own useful qualities. The dragon has a short, thin, but sturdy head; it features drawing inspiration from a serpent. The head gathers information, and can be best described as the pilots portal to the out side world. The head send visuals, as well as radar; depending on the Interface your using the all of this information will be viewed on your screen or in first person if you are testing out the prototype. The body is broad, where the arms and head connect, but narrow as they reach the legs. The Body holds the fusion engine, which is surprisingly energy efficient; but has a limited capacity of holding up too only 2 extra reserve cores. Unlike other cores the gut of the machine sits in front of the pilot. Making the chest where the dragon motif is located. Fortunately this area is heavily armored as well as the back where the pilot is nested; this adds some wait, but makes it easier to protect. The legs are thin and could be described as muscular if alive; but alas they are not. The legs are built for speed, with light armor. This makes its highly maneuverable, but gives it an astonishing weak spot; a well aimed attack could easily throw the gear off balance and if lucky cripple it. But that’s where the arms some in. Standard for each gear is a high powered rifle; this can be coupled with the cores energy supply for an extra kick. If used right it can cause major damage, but if use irresponsible can overload and burn out, or take out the mechs main shooting arm. Its secondary weapon is a sub machine gun, mostly used to hold down enemies rather than actually destroy or subdue. If used right it can help successfully complete withdraws, along with intimidate the enemy with its high rate of fire. Interface and such is standard, and is easy to modify, though not many of any besides the commanders and captains have tried out the NIS. (Designed by Raze) In this current stage of the war, the Western Alliance, consisting of North America, Western Europe and Japan, has suffered grievous defeats at the hand of the Eastern Confederacy, consisting of China, Russia, and India. Confederate forces have overrun Japan and are using the islands as a forward base to strike the United States. The first target is the city of San Fransisco, where the story begins. Rules 1. No Godmodding 2. No controlling another's character without permission 3. Substantial posts 4. You can die 5. Lots of explosions 6. No laser swords. WaugH! Character Sheet Name: Age : Side : (Alliance or Confederacy?) Appearance : Personality : Biography : Gear: (Put information about your personal Gear here. If you're military, you're likely going to have a standard military grade Gear. Or perhaps you're a normal fellow who just happened to stumble upon a special gear...That kinda stuff.) Gear Design I'm opening up unit design to the players as well. If you have an idea for a Gear you'd like to share, please post a description. If it's good, I'll put it up on the units list and you can use it. Voila! Now, let's get goin'!

Good character, 3ve. You're in!
"actually doesn't go around wearing a bikini that much though."? Was there an accusation in the first place? XD If we're playing on stereotypes here, wouldn't a coconut top and grass skirt work more effectively?

Name: Dark Dragon
Age : 20 Side : Confederacy Appearance : African – American with short black braids that fall to his shoulder blades and stop. He wears black jeans and a red sleeveless t-shirt; it has frayed edges around where the sleeves would be indicating it was ripped and did not come like that. Personality: I hate you, you hate me…what else is new. Biography: Part of the strike force stationed in Japan to take out San Francisco. He was considered a Buraku in Japan, and is now giving Japan exactly what it deserves through pain and blood. He also hates the U.S.A. because it was the one who made him flee to Japan in the first place. He is not experienced with gears, but was given special privileges for his assistance in the invasion of Japan; no he moves to help take out the U.S with some his connections on shore. Alright, good job Raze. You're in, and I'll accept your Dragon II. Post your modification if you want.
Also, the light descriptions were basically a combination of player creativity and personal laziness.

Name : Guy "Kid" Lacroix
Age : 19 Side : Alliance Appearance : Mocha skin, Jamaican tan. Short, black hair with big, brown eyes. Average build and height, boyish charm. Teased by the female scientists back at the facility for his childish looks, making him self conscious about his appearance. Personality : Incredibly idealistic and naive, Guy believes in the inherent virtue of humanity. This leaves a gaping hole in his philosophy of the war situation, but he washes over that with his patriotism. Believes very strongly in relationship, loves his friends. Easily duped, misled, and is likely to be crushed by the horrors of war. Biography : Guy hails from Jamaica, a country greatly changed by the discovery of fusion energy. The new power source allowed for an expansion of its industry, developing the small island very quickly. Crime decreased as food increased, and Guy feels a since of gratitude and debt to the Western Alliance. Thusly, as soon as he was eighteen, he enlisted. His high marks allowed him to pilot a Gear, where he gained incredible scores in his training. As one of the top graduating rookies, Guy also tested strangely vulnerable to the effects of the NIS system, pushing him to become a test pilot for the Alliance's new Gear. However, being so highly favored by his superiors caused him to be shunned by his peers. He never made friends with him, instead turning to the scientists at the Neural Integration Research Facility. A boy needs friends his age, but he's grateful for the acceptance they showed him, even if it was only because he was their guinea pig. Gear : Knight II. The backbone of the Alliance's Gear force, the Knight II is a very reliable mobile infantry unit. Sporting a spiffy humanoid design, colored a dark black and wielding a detachable shield over its torso and boasting speed, toughness, and firepower, the Knight II is a coveted Gear. Smaller than its predecessor and the Dragon, the Knight II stands at about 14 feet. The secondary weapon of the Knight II is the Warhammer. First proving its use against Confederate tanks in Berlin, the Warhammer has kept its position as the reliable armor-crushing weapon. It crushes Gears and tanks alike, and can be held in one hand to allow for shield usage. Guy's Knight runs with slider modules, as well as an experimental AI/NIS system. The AI (Codenamed MAI) was developed to assist him in piloting his Gear, as well as take over if the NIS system malfunctions when it is used. Guy has grown an attachment to the AI in the short time that he's known it...

Alliance Gears -
The Kousotsu, meaning "armored warrior", class embodies the philosophy of Japanese military thought, hit fast and quiet. It resembles the Eagle except for standing only a paltry twelve feet tall. This gear is one of the shortest in the world, but do not let its small stature fool you, this gear carries quite a punch. It carries a modified form of the M20 Assault rifle, designed to fire either 120 mm SABOT Rounds for enhanced punch when engaging at a distance another Gear, or the Alliance standard GAU-8 anti armor rounds when dealing with large enemy forces or on the move. With advanced robotic optics system as well as a sophisticated radar system able to identify 72 targets and track 48 of them simultaneously, the pilot is fully aware of his surroundings and is never caught off guard. However, the Kousotsu's primary weapon is a giant curved blades mounted on the forearm, that when ordered can slide out and be gripped by the armor's hands. Many spoke out on it's use, some favoring the effectiveness of the Hammers employed by other Western armies. But the pilots had the last say, favoring the romantic quality of the curved blades. This blade takes literally months to make, with the same precision and care as the swords that were made for the samurai of old. It's made of pure titanium and the sharpening process alone takes two weeks. Although the Kousotus may seem impressive offensively, its greatest strengths are on defensive and support systems: smoke screen dispensers, radar signal detector, radar absorbing material all designed to make the Kousotsu the most survivable Gear in the world. But survival did not end with the exterior. A monitoring system that would assess the pilots condition and inject painkillers, antibiotics, vitamin boosters, stimulants, a variety of anti toxin/poison serums, anti-nerve agents, and sedatives when needed. The most revolutionary part of the Kousotsu Gear though was the V/STOL Hover Jet System built into the back of the armored unit. It's maximum altitude is 500 feet and fly at a speed of 100 MPH. As impressive as the Kousotsu was, it could not thwart the invasion of Japan for several key reasons. The first of which is the limited number of them. Pilots took years to train and the armored units to just as long to build. Overly elaborate rituals, combined with limited materials and complex manufacturing processes, prevented it from ever being deployed in large numbers. In fact, only forty-eight ever were built before the invasion began and the focus went to Knight Class Gears. The last weakness however was what proved to be the greatest. In development, they found that all the systems, especially the sword, just made the suit to heavy. So they were forced to sacrifice armor. In the only large scale use of the Kousotsus in the Battle of Tokyo, which used half of the total force, they were decimated. Following in the ancient tradition of the Samurai, they self destructed and took out many of them invading Dragons, but it was not enough to stop the horde or Gears. Now their are only a few that remain, and their pilots have strict orders to self-destruct to prevent the Eastern forces from taking the technology. To this day none have been captured intact. The last weakness is that, because of its unique designed, it is unable to take advantage of the experimental NIS, Neural Integration System and must rely on voice and standard controls resulting in a slight loss of agility in hand to hand combat. (Made by Aerodom) Confederate Gears - Crashing Sun : 24ft tall. The Crashing sun was developed in joint effort between India and Russia. The purpose of the Crashing Sun is to be essentially a Walking Artillery platform of destructive power. It has two Incendiary round launching Artillary double-cannons on the shoulders. and a single Cannon on either arm that shoot Deep Penetration rounds. The Gear is very slow compared to other gears but is heavily armored to help it survive. Upfront it has to use a Shotgun type gun. Typically is red and white. (made by Commandersnow) Nirvana : 12ft tall. Nirvana is a Upfront scout Gear. The design is slim and fast. It is still experimental and works only on a NIS basis. The armor is light, and it posses only light weaponry. It carries two Swing blades in its Arms. They cut by being lined with Chainsaw like Blades that rotate at high speeds. In its Palms are two Pneumatically propelled Spikes that are used for both climbing and impaling heads. Its only ranged weapon is a sub machine gun. The armor is nearly all off. The back on its front is the most armored and supports 5 energy back-ups. (made by Commandersnow)

Thought you could start an RP without me showing up to crash the show?
WRRRRRRRRRRY! Name: Alan 'Claw' Branx Age: 26 Side: Alliance Appearance: Keeping his hair short, his face is rather handsome and well-cut. His brown eyes are quick from combat training and in-battle experience and often flick to and fro while he watches his surroundings. Dressed in casual clothing, he prefers comfort to uniforms. Personality: Calm under pressure, but awkward in conversation with others. He spends most of his time fighting rather than talking. Biography: Having grown up in a military family, he grew up when the Gears were first getting their trial runs. He joined up and trained under special circumstances and through special avenues in order to assure his placement within the Gear units. Having found his place, he has pushed himself into solo missions and other such situations so as to further his personal experience behind the panel. Gear: A genius in his field, Alan pilots a modified Eagle which carries scrap pieces from the original Knight designs and the ever-popular Dragon. The weapons have been modified in such a way so as to carry less ammo but be lighter to allow better movement of his vehicle. He has access to a flamethrower, a powerful machine gun, several missiles that range from AS models of various powers and a choice few AA missiles. However, his pride weaponry revolves around his custom-grafted left arm. While appearing to carry no such weapon to the naked eye, it is in fact a close-quarters armament designed to both hold its opponent and destroy the pilots of opposing Gears. A claw hand that is capable of fairly difficult grappling hides a pneumatic spike within the 'palm' of its hand. This spike can be extended so as to pierce the armor of conventional Gear models and target the pilot within the 'safety' of their cockpit. He calls his Gear "Sabertooth" despite its obvious roots in the eagle's shapes and design. Obviously the name comes from his tactics which revolve around using his longer range weapons as distractions or support so that he can close distance and attack with his claw and conserve ammo and collateral damage. In most cases, he uses his light-weight design so as to boost onto the battle-field and strike quickly before any shots are fired and thus abuse the element of surprise. |
