The year is 2010 and the world is in turmoil. The UN has become a tyrannical government intent on seizing control of all transhumans and using them to enforce its edicts. The small army of transhumans they've collected has made them a credible threat to the free world. It has become dominated by totalitarian regimes dedicated to a collectivist agenda based on on an unholy amalgam of radical Islamic thought and socialism.

Characters represent individuals with skills and backgrounds appropriate for a first contact mission. Underwater powers/skills are not necessary. Languages, linguistics, anthropology, biological and hard sciences will be important. Combat skills would be helpful for some, but not all. (Can't guarantee no red shirts)

I'm limiting the first contact team to seven players, any percentage of them can be transhuman. Transhumans are individuals with powers and abilities that become apparent after a long illness that kills 94% of those who contract it. A small percent of those who survive begin to exhibit unusual abilities. Power levels would be considered a low to medium powered comic book team. There are no Supermans, Wonder Womans, Hulks, or Phoenixes. Think in terms of Young Justice or the first X-Men team. For now, I want to avoid magic based characters.

I'd play a biologist for sure.

Okay, come up with a general history. If you want to use a gaming system to define the character, that's fine; if you don't, that's fine too. Give me a history, a general background of powers (if any) skills and history.

Name: Landon Marsden

Background: Landon was born in Great Shelford, just south of Cambridge in the UK. He was always a science geek albeit a charismatic and approachable one. After completing school with high marks he was accepted into the University of Cambridge where he attained a PhD in Genetics. During this time he worked part-time as a Research Assistant in the Department of Genetics.

When the degree was completed he worked full-time for a year in the same department, and then began studying for a Masters in Biochemistry which he completed four years later. Afterwards he worked at Cambridge as a Research Assosciate in the Department of Biochemistry performing stem cell research.

After the ‘transhuman disease’ outbreak, Cambridge, like many other universities, were provided with flesh specimens of victims of the disease in order to study it. Before its mysteries could even begin to be unraveled, a fire broke out in the laboratory and many other viral samples were accidentally exposed, the transhuman disease among them. Landon and all his peers were afflicted and gradually they all perished save for him and two others. He had become a transhuman himself.

It took him some time to discover how he had changed: because of his exposure to the viruses in the lab, the transhuman disease had empowered his immune system. He had become immune to all viruses and his body was invulnerable to harmful bacteria. After he fled to the United States in order to escape the UN, he discovered (through sexual relations) that his bodily fluids could cure people—or swiftly kill them. The chances were fifty-fifty.

Landon became well-known in California when he revealed his gift. He allowed himself to be studied at Standford University on the condition that he be one of the researchers--he wanted to find a way to remove the fatal side-effect of his DNA. When an extra-terrestrial craft entered Earth orbit and was shot down by the Chinese, Landon was recruited by the US government to be part of the seven-person group to make first contact with the vessel for his experience and knowledge in biology and an expected resistance to any harmful alien pathogens.

I like it. Create him in the Character registration thread and get him ready to meet up with the rest of the team. (As soon as we get a whole team)

I'm not going to post in the other thread until we have enough people to actually start.

So this post serves to bump the thread to the top. I don't see why no one else is interested.

thanks. I should have thought of that. I'm really hoping for at least 7 players. I have a whole plot line set out, and want to see how the players deal with it.

I haven't got the time to write up a char sheet right now, but I'm definitely interested. I think I'll play a character with the power to be invisible. Not all the time, maybe for 10-15 mins at a time, needing a rest afterwards. He'll be a scientist also. The story so far seems really well thought out and I'd love to be a part of it. It will be tomorrow morning, Irish time, before I get to post my char sheet. That's about... 17ish hours away. But to be fair I dont think much will happen here before then.

That is fine. Be sure to develop what his/her scientific skills are. Cultural/Scientific and language skills are going to be important. Also skills with oceanography and marine biology are going to come into play.

Marine Biologist sounds awesome. =) Yea what I posted there were just a few ideas as they came into my head. I'll write a proper in-depth character sheet tomorrow.
