| Due to the bravery of John Nada, Frank Armitage and the small resistance group they were a part of, the revelation that we in fact were not alone came to the realization of the Earth's population when a large broadcasting antenna was destroyed by Nada, opening the eyes of the world for the very first time, and revealing their secret alien overlords. This happened in 1988. The year this roleplay takes place in is 1987. The resistance is just starting out, and that's where you come in. You can find out about the aliens by either receiving a pair of sunglasses from a resistance member, being approached by an alien to sell out to them for whatever reason, or finding a pair of sunglasses yourself. Be as creative about it as you please. Either way, you will eventually join the resistance. Here's a link to the movie's Wiki, to give you some background on what you're getting yourself into. They Live - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Character Sheet - Name - Age - Appearance - Bio - Just talk about who your character was before he or she first put on the sunglasses. Need to know information : - The aliens appear as human without the glasses. When you put them on, their disguise no longer works. Taking them off again makes everything look just like it did before you put them on. When on, the world appears entirely in grey, advertisements on billboards, newspapers, magazines, and whatever else you can think of now show simple commands in black over a white background which I will talk about next. There are also flying machines that sometimes float about that can reveal your location to the aliens, though they are not often seen. - These are the signs that appeared in the movie (The ones I can remember, that is.) OBEY, MARRY AND REPRODUCE, SLEEP, WATCH T.V., and on money can be found the words THIS IS YOUR GOD. You can be creative about how these words show up. Perhaps the welcome mat outside your door actually says "OBEY" when you put on the glasses. Whatever's clever. - The resistance is very small right now, so to find a member is a rare thing. The glasses that you wear are black and plain looking, but they were cool in the 80's. A person who can "see" is usually identified by having the same glasses. The aliens do not know that you can see them unless you make it apparent to them. When you take off the glasses, you find that you feel like you are coming down from a drug high, and it feels terrible everytime you do. It's an effect of wearing the glasses for too long. The roleplay will always accept new members, so join up, and help the resistance show the world how ugly life can get in black and white. Definitely sounds interesting... Name - Grace Hope Huszar Age - 22 Appearance - Small, black haired with a semi gothic style about her. Her taste is a mixture between goth and emo, hence being called a "gothemo" Bio - Before she became a member of the resistance, she was a college student, finding a pair of sunglasses in her friend's drawer while looking for something in them. Quickly after, paranoia set in, she shut herself away, trying to find a way to reverse the horrible paranoia she suffered. She soon became a member of the resistance not long after, when her psychiatrist suggested it, him being a member himself.

Name - Mike Deris Age - 26 Appearance - He has the image about himself that people would instantly recognize as "Thrasher" (Come on, it's 1987!). He wears a lot of denim (mainly jeans) and leather (jacket). He has a harsh look about him, but it isn't reflected by his personality. Bio - He's a vagrant, trying to get a job, but most places see him and turn him down. He's unemployed and homeless. He had nothing to live for until he - one night - cold, starving and tired, stumbled into a church. He didn't know if it was the front entrance, but he went in from the rain. He stumbled around until he found the light switch. He'd noticed how he'd tripped a box of sunglasses over. It was the most peculiar thing, but he figured it might just be a fund-raiser for the church, nevertheless, he took a pair for himself. He managed to pocket them in time for the blind preacher to discover his presence and abscond him from the church, into the rain and the night. It wasn't long before he discovered what the sunglasses actually did.

| Name - John "Jersey" Jerskiwicz Age - 36 Appearance - John isn't the largest guy, but he dresses big with lots of folds for the imagination to fill in. His hair is black and slicked back, which compliments his angular face well. He sometimes has a facial shadow, but mostly he goes clean-shaven. Bio - It's the 80's. Cocaine is new and its big, big, big! With John, that's no exception. Primarily employed as a drug dealer by the age of 23, it's only recently that John stopped being a mule and started being primarily a recreational user. Since than, his life has been pretty simple; wake up at three in the afternoon, shower, go to the discotheque, pick up some fox, bring her back to his place, make animal noises, sleep. Repeat ad nauseum. This routine, however, couldn't last. One day, in a shocking break from tradition, John and some friends went on a road trip to the coast. There, at some exclusive beach or another, whilst bird watching in the surf, John cut his toe on something sticking out of the mud. It turned out to be a pair of slick, stylish sunglasses. Score, thought John. Then he put them on. Let's just say, he never went back to the discotheque. OT: Can't wait to get this thing going.

Name - Luke Prince Age - 35 Appearance - Bald, green eyes, brown goatee, tall, average build. Wears a suit and tie when on the job, civilian clothes everywhere else. Bio - Luke Prince was a psychiatrist and an alchoholic. While his tie was still on, he remained sober, but when it came off at the end of the day, he would often drink himself to sleep. His wife divorced him in '85 and won a long, tiresome court battle against him claiming full custody of his then eight year old daughter. His former wife remarried in '86 and moved away from California. That is when Luke started to drink. His life changed the day one of his patients left a pair of sunglasses in his office. Putting them on, his world was turned upside down. |
