APPROVED DUELISTS SKIP TO THE BOTTOM

This is the OOC thread to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel University RP.

Story (Please note I use the original Japanese Names, rather than the American Ones. So Maximilian Pegasus and Pegasus J. Crawford = Same person.)



Pegasus J. Crawford created the vastly popular game Duel Monsters. It took the gaming world by storm, and became even more popular with the innovation of duel disks. "Dueling" as it came to be known became a profession with top ranking duelist winning massive sums of money. During this time, one duelist emerged greater than all the rest...a boy named Yugi Muto.

10 years after Yugi Muto was crowned the King of Games and became the reigning Duel Monsters champion, his rival, Seto Kaiba, set up an academy on a remote island known as dueling Academy. The goal of this academy is to train duelists to become the very best.

5 years later, Pegasus J. Crawford also set a small institution made to train duelists to become the very best. Pegasus intended that only the most elite students would be able to gain admission to his school, so there are only 175 students at the school at any given time.

The students are divided into four respective groups. The four groups are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

There are 100 Bronze students, who stay in the Bronze Bunker dorms. These dorms are very minimal like a college dorm room and each dorm room holds 4 individuals. Bronze students are only allow to challenge each other, and Silver students.

Bronze Big Shots - Undefeated Bronze students with winning streaks of 20 or more are called Bronze Big Shots. These are considered the most notable rookies...but can they make it to silver?

There are 50 Silver students. They stay in the very luxurious Silver Suites. These are very nice rooms resembling hotel rooms and each room holds 2 individuals. Silver students are allowed to challenge each other, Gold Students, or Bronze Students.

Silver Stars - Silver Students who have beat 25 or more Silver Students are known as the Silver Stars. These are considered the upper crust of the Silver Students. Viewed as serious threats by the Gold Students.

There are 20 Gold Students. They stay in the Gold Abode which has room service, modern technology, and many amenities. All of the Gold Condo rooms are singles. Gold Students are allowed to challenge any student.

Gold Moguls - Gold Students who have keep their place for more than 3 months are given the title "Gold Mogul" since many students alternate between Gold and Silver. These are the only students thought to be able to defeat the Aces.

There are 5 Platinum Students at any given time. These 5 are considered the school's aces. They stay in the Platinum Palace. The Platinum Palace has 5 Distinct Towers, each having multiple floors. Platinum Students are each given 20 personal attendants including butlers, maids, musicians, and other things. Platinum Students are only allowed to Challenge Gold Students and Platinum Students.

Platinum Powers - These are the schools Aces...the strongest five. Most of them are renowned, respected and feared for their phenomenal skills. They represent the pinnacle of Dueling University. Pegasus J. Crawford, is said to have personal given them one of kind cards. Some of them are even said to have mysterious powers...

If any student loses to someone with a lower rank, their ranks are switched. Thus if a Bronze student defeats a Gold Student, the Gold becomes bronze, and the Bronze becomes Gold.



RP Rules

This RP is turn based. I will post the scenario, and each person will be able to respond. Then I post the next scenario and it continues.

You cannot play as any of the cannon or non-cannon characters from the original series, GX, or 5Ds. That means no playing as Yugi, Kaiba, Jaden, Joey, ect.

Following the continuity of the original manga....

The only person to ever summon Exodia has been Yugi. No Exodia Cards are allowed.

Only three copies of Blue Eyes White Dragon exist, and they are all the property of Seto Kaiba.



Dueling Rules.

Almost identical to Tournament Yu-Gi-Oh! with a few important differences. If you don't know how to play Yu-Gi-Oh! then this RP is definitely not for you.

The Ban List is the same as the current 2009 Banlist.




I thought that people who play YGO would probably have some sort of randomization program...

but even if they don't I don't have any problems with people choosing their own opening hand and draws.

This is because it is impossible to have an unbeatable hand, unless you know exactly what is in your opponent's hand.

Also, both players must PM me their opening hands at the start of a duel. I won't allow multiple copies of the same card in any opening hand.

So let's assume that both players are opening with their best cards. Remember my three play rule? Even if a person has a 6 card hand, they can only play/set up to three cards in any given turn. Even if a person is doing their best to cheat they have to realize that...

they don't know what their opponent is playing. So they have to be aware that their opponent may be doing the same thing.

they have to let their opponent respond to any card effects that affect the opponents side of the field.






Sample dueling


Duelist One's RP Turn

"I'll summon Command Knight in attack mode(first RPs command Knights appearance and gestures, then posts it's stats and effect) , and place two cards in my backfield face down. I end my turn."

Duelist Two's RP turn

"I'll play my fissure magic card(post effect) against your Command Knight! Can you stop it?"

Duelist One RP Turn

"No..." (RPs command knight getting destroyed)

Duelist Two Turn

"I'll summon my Berserk Gorilla(RPs card appearance and gestures then post stats and effect) in Attack Mode. Now I'll attack with my Berserk Gorilla Try and stop it if you can!

Duelist One Turn

"Hold on! I'll activate my widespread ruin(post card effect) trap card!

Duelist Two

Has no cards to stop widespread ruin so...must RP the effect of widespread ruin.

"My Berserk Gorilla was destroyed!" I'll place one card face down...and end my turn.

That's sort of how I envisioned things going.


No cards with burn/direct damage effects allowed.

OTK decks will NOT be approved.

Duels are 4000 lp.

Each Duelist is allowed a 40 card deck, with no side deck.

Only up to three cards can be played in a single turn. If your target your opponents card, give them an opportunity to respond in the next turn.

No millennium items allowed.

Cards that only exist on the show and are not tournament legal are not allowed. Egyptian God Cards, and Seal of Oricalcos for example.

You are allowed to make 1 unique card for your deck. You may only have 1 copy of this card. The card must be approved by me.

You can only get new cards by trading them with other players, NPCs, or buying them from the card shop.

Card Shop Prices.

Common Cards are 5 Credits.
Rares are 50 credits.
Super Rares are 200 credits.
Ultra Rares are 1000 credits.
Secret Rares are 8000 credits.

All Players start out with 100 credits.

Beating a Bronze Duelist is worth 50 credits. Beating a Silver Duelist is worth 200 credits. Beating a Gold Duelist is worth 1000 credits. Beating a Platinum Duelist is worth 8000 credits.

You can completely change your deck with each new story arc.
