Default Mind Games

Psychosis. Disconnect from reality. Hallucinations, delusions, complete retreat into the recesses of the human mind. It's caused by many things. Drugs, disease, fear, pain. It is to psychological disorder what fever is to ordinary disease; extremely common and having varying degrees of seriousness.

Let's examine the mind of a deeply psychotic. Let's take a look at the fractured glass of their subconscious. Jungian Archetypes hide, unseen behind strange dreamscapes. Nightmarish entities dart between shadows, snaring unwary thoughts in their slavering maws. And the tiny thread of conscious mind, forced down into the depths of the unconscious, swims from place to place, always fleeing, always running, always trying to out run the Cause, the Source, the agent beyond the psychosis.
*****
Denizens of the subconscious

The Lost One: The lonely thread of consciousness, thrust into the depths of unconsciousness.

The Archetypes: Archetypes. The primary figures of myth and story. The Hero. The Wise Man. The Mother. The Maiden. The Crone. Infinite others. They are the universal prototypes of ideas, the things through which the consciousness processes information. They are neutral within the Dreamscape, some helping, others hindering the Lost One. Each acts predictably and in accordance with its own goals. They have no depth, no character; they are ideas, that is all.

The Nightmares: Entities of coalesced fear, preying on stray thoughts and hunting the Lost One, ever at the command of...

The Cause: The primary Nightmare. The fear at the heart of the Lost One's psychosis.
*****
Goals

The Lost One: flee the Cause. Eventually, confront the Cause and escape the psychosis.

The Archetypes: Do whatever the hell they want.

The Nightmares: Find the Lost One and keep it trapped in the Dreamscape forever.

The Cause: See above.
*****
The Dreamscape
The stage of the drama. The subconscious mind of the Lost One. An eerie, ever-shifting expanse of shadows, rabbits, and strange syrupy things.

Psychosis is lack of emotion. You do know that, right?

Why would a totally logical being attempt to gain cumbersome emotions?

Are you sure you did not mean insanity, or delirium, or something?

That said, an interesting role-play. I wonder if the subconscious agents might have there own agenda. I will join soon.

Masterweaver...I DO NOT APPRECIATE HAVING MY RESEARCH QUESTIONED! NO COOKIES FOR YOU!
See:

Character Sheet
Name:
Type of Denizen:
Basic Appearance:
Personality:

I can't really ask for any more than that. Things...shift in the dreamscape. They change. Objects don't necessarily exist from moment to moment, and entities change form without warning. And biographies aren't particuarly helpful.
*****
Name: Not-Quite-Silence
Type of Denizen: Nightmare
Basic Appearance: A black, shadowy thing with far too many spindly limbs.
Personality: It walks behind, never seen, only barely heard, but always getting closer. It delights in the fear and suspense of the stalk.

Name: The Freak
Type: Archetype
Basic Appearance: A man in a strange red-and-black garb with a checkered eight-pointed hat.
Personality: Pain is the greatest thing. The Freak is a delicatessen of pain, though he loathes death, as that ends the fun too quickly.

If this doesn't work I have other things I can be.....

Name: The Shadow
Type of Denizen: Archetype
Basic Appearance: A shadow man in a black overcoat he appears in many other forms though. Often seen as a darker version of the lost one.
Personality:The Shadow is often dark an sinister though he is not a nightmare he still represents fear in a since he is the darkside of the lost one. The Shadow is the parts of his personality that the lost one does not like.

OOH! A straight jacket! Good! It's so much easier to find and eat the last vestiges of a person's conscious mind when said consciousness CAN'T MOVE.

The straight jacket won't help your chances of survival, Wolf. But accepted.
