RUNESTONE
A village, ancient and long-forgotten, stood by the beach.
Simple domes, they were yet elegant, and decorated by ochre and flowers. They encircled a communal campfire which was built up with spent wood, a little of which still smoked from the dawn meal. There was one eccentricity, one aspect of this village that did not equate with the rest: a granite shrine, geometrically perfect, as alien in architecture to the huts as the granite was to the local stone.
The villagers did not question it. It was a vault, of sorts, as well as worshipping ground, wherein was kept a relic in which they held great reverence.
Now, however, the village was empty. Its people had ventured off to hunt and scavenge for food, water, and whatever might prove useful. Only a gentle easterly wind and the soft murmur of waves broke the silence.
For even the birds of the jungle had fallen quiet.
Five horsemen materialized from amongst the trees. Two of their number were women; their faces were hidden by strange featureless masks while they were dressed in flowing white gowns. The men carried hard steel and wore purposeful expressions. Immediately, they sought the granite shrine, one of the men entering. He returned with a gilded chest which was small enough to carry in his arms and stored it in a large saddlebag.
They spoke not a word to each other, and as soon as they came they were gone.
PREMISE:
A relic has been stolen. Its nature is currently ambiguous. A party of villagers will be sent to track and reclaim it--venturing into a world they could never imagined have existed, forced to find peaceful solutions amidst the violence brewing there.
RULES:
- The genre is fantasy.
- Your character must be humanoid and mortal. Beyond this, you may tailor your character as you desire; the village demographic is highly diverse.
- Limited magic is allowed and must have no specifically violent applications.
- All villagers are practitioners of the local religion, which teaches pacifism toward other intelligent beings. You may develop your character as you wish (such as losing their religion), but please maintain this pacifist attitude--this RP is intended to explore unconventional (by roleplaying standards) pathways.
- You do not have to be a villager. However, you will have to wait until I create openings in the storyline for more characters.
EXTRA INFORMATION:
- Players may feel free to invent creatures, peoples and places as the storyline progresses. Also, do not feel afraid to steer the plot (but please be reasonable--eg. don't have aliens invade.)
- There are currently
FOUR PLACES available for villagers. If you are interested, PM me (except GoldenEyes and Zalorticus, who may post immediately) and I will tell you if you can still join.
Also, if you would like to reserve a spot for later on, post here.
- You do not need to post a profile.
- Please check back for updates on rules/info/available positions.
- This thread will include summaries of the storyline.
