In one of my story universes, set on Terra during the reign of the Third Countess of Terra, my characters make reference to the original countess in turns of phrase and euphemisms. "Give her any authority and she thinks she's the countess of Terra," "Man, our math teacher's like the countess of Terra," or "Don't be so proud. Remember the countess of Terra."

Thing is, I never actually fleshed out the Countess or what happened to her. I know she was despotic and proud, and she was eventually killed, but I don't know anything beyond that. I kinda want to know what happened to her, and I don't feel like writing a story. My friends and I all agree that it's alright to leave her as an unexplained little quirk. I don't want to write about her, nor will I publish anything posted in this thread or its companion IC, assuming I ever get published.

But I do want to know what happened, and I thought some other people might be interested in helping me.

I'll be a little more controlling in this RP than I've been in my previous ones. I'll occasionally have semi-helpful characters with questionable motives give the heroes points in the right direction.

It is a story of bravery, and wisdom, and a hint of compassion. It is a happy story, in some ways. It is a sad story in others. Read on, for this is the tale of the Countess of Terra.

Terra: The world. Very similar to Earth in the High Middle Ages. A hundred years previous to the story, the faithful of the New Gods conquered Terra, thereby introducing magic to the world. Their leader became the Countess of Terra.
New Gods: Gods. You don't need to know about the Old Gods.
Black Triumvirate: A trio of inter-planar mischief makers. Despite their enormous combined magical firepower, they prefer to manipulate others into doing mischief for them, if possible.

Appearance: Black Mary Janes, white pinafore, black dress. White hair, pure white skin, emerald eyes. Clear family resemblance with Veronica and Sally. Looks about five. Carries a parasol and a lollipop. Has a ring with small spikes, almost a miniature crown, in silver on her right index finger.
Biography: Youngest member of the Black Triumvirate, and most powerful.

Appearance: Emerald eyes. Black hair without highlights or reflections, just a mass of darkness. Dresses in gray T-shirts and blue jeans. Clear resemblance to Pepper and Veronica. Two silver earrings, like the trays of an old fashioned balance. Looks about 16
Biography: The middle member of the Black Triumvirate, and the least powerful. Where Pepper is childish and Veronica is realistic, Sally is emotionally driven, often losing her temper, especially when asked about...

Name: Rialla
Race: Isha, a race similar to elves, what with the pointy ears, unnatural beauty, and superhuman dexterity.
Gender: Female
Age: 500
Weapons: Her subjects, her army, her indomitable will and arrogance.
Skills: Empire management, charisma
Magic: That's what she has mages and priests for.
Appearance: Tall, thin. Her build might be described as ethereal, almost as if your hand would pass right through her if you touched her. Long black hair. Vivid blue eyes, no whites. Slightly pointed ears and faintly blue tinged skin. Very faint. Her skin is mostly white. Dresses in long skirts and blouses in pastel colors.
Biography: Born to a noble family, Rialla was taken into the priesthood of the war god Theris, where she spent her first three centuries learning warcraft and religious rites. She spent another century rising in the ranks of the temple, and was chosen to lead the conquest of Terra in the name of the New Gods. Has spent the last hundred years overseeing the integration of the New Gods into the religious life of the humans of Terra, taxing humans, and being a despot. Punishes disobedience with death.

Skills: Can usually remain calm under stressful situations (uh is that a skill?)
Magic: Short Range Teleportation, Can create and control illusions, Ice formation and control.
Appearance: Short brown hair, Blue eyes, wears grey pants with black trim, a grey shirt with matching trim as well as red markings symbolizing an eye. Besides all that he usually covers his outfit using a brown cloak he wears at all times.
Biography:Azrael is a young magic user of a clan that was attempting to specialize in illusionary magic. The most important person to him was his brother. One day it seemed that his clan was charged with disobedience and most of his clan was killed for such only he and a handful of others were left. Sadly his brother was not among the ones left. Feeling anger for his brothers death Azrael swore to get revenge.

I haven't worked on anything to do with the New Gods in awhile. I'll have to dig a map out and modify it to be five hundred years before the reign of the third countess.
Yeah, the thing about attempting specialization is probably a good idea.

Okay edited. Cool third countess huh. Wow I just realized that the really fun part of this is that i'm going to be a part of the history of Terra, it's an intresting feeling.

I guess, although I have no intentions of working any of this into my writing. The first Countess of Terra pops up occasionally as a kind of bogeyman, as a warning against pride and general jerkishness. I kinda want to know what happened to her, and I'm too lazy to write a story about her.

Indeed. Anyway, I can't find any maps with little enough detail to easily modify, so I'm drawing a new one. Should be fun.
