A ship finally recieves Cortana's beacons and that ship heads for Master Chief's location. Unfortunately when it arrives, it is intercepted by another species of the flood who take over the ship. The captain of that ship manages to send out a final SOS before turning into one of 'them' himself. Earth recieves these signals 8 years later [so Master Chief might not be that far from Earth after all hmmm.] and sends a recovery team to that location. When the recovery team does not return, they send the space marines to investigate[no relation to Dawn Of War]. What they find are the remains of the recovery team, and the debris that Master Chief resides in. They do not know he is inside and leaves the wreckage. During the call to inform earth that they were returning, the transmission was interrupted by that familiar deep voice. The flood has returned and the tides of war return with it. Eventually Cortana's beacons hit earth and they are able to recover spartan 117. Cortana's old programming was restarted along with previous knowlege and she once again guides master chief, who awakes from his cyro sleep 15 years into the war...
