Default Affiliates thread/forum?

Hmm, I may not look the part but, I'm a minor mod at another RP site. And well, I'd rather like it if there was some place I could post--just once, and very tastefully--to advertise it without getting burned at the stake for spamming.
I'm wondering if there is maybe a thread to do this, and if not could we get one? It would be all official, everyone would know where to look for the sort of thing, definitely avoidable (unlike PMing individuals), and if for some reason another site's ad or the site itself seemed badly objectionable the post/thread for it could be deleted.

I assert that advertising this other RP site is not my sole reason for being here. In case you haven't noticed, no link or even name or hint of a name has shown up from me yet, not until I can do it legally somewhere. I came here to meet new people, and join and make new Roleplays. But I hope I'm not the only member here who thinks it would be nice to advertise somewhere official, or maybe find other sites that way. After all, Googling "RP forum" isn't the easiest nor the most fruitful of efforts...
I don't think RP forums are in competition for members, not at all. Members gravitate to places and people that fit their style, and might join another site as well for the same reasons I joined this site. After all, this is the internet, and you really can be two places at once on the internet, so...

You will have to talk to Mahzkrieg personally about this matter. We strongly discourage ALL Advertising. Unless of course the other site has advertising for our site as well, making it equal advertising.

But Mahz put's money into his advertising, and simply using this site to advertise your site is piggy backing off Mahz work. This is why we don't allow any advertising.

BUT if you talk via PM to MahzKrieg, then it might be a different matter. It all depends on what he thinks.

I'm sure a mutual advertisement, an affiliation, wouldn't be an issue. The other site has done this with some others for quite some time. But I'm still not sure why you would discourage all advertising, especially of other RP forums. What that feels like to me is being greedy, not in a healthy way, though this may not be the case. I'm merely unused to it, being as I am accustomed to sites that (as far as I can tell) use unpaid advertising and are therefore happy to affiliate with others.
And I'm not really sure what kind of advertising you're talking about paying for; I sure didn't find this place by any of that. No, I found this site about three or four pages down on google.

I"m pretty sure that posting any sort of advertizing will get you flat-out banned. I've seen it happen a-many a-time. Whether or not the person was here to just advertize.

The thing is, we don't want allot of attention when it comes to trolls and spammers. So I think that affiliating and linking back-and-forth would just make a buffet-line for any bored troll/spam(er(s).

Mahzkrieg pays for advertizing on google so that people who want to role-play can find us more easily. I did a few checks and RpGuild wasn't the first on google to come up, but it was in there, so any player that really wants to play can find us. The bored lil' trolls will pick-off the first few they find, so I am ok with this.

I honestly don't agree with affiliations, because it is, basically, feeding off of another site's member-base. I mean no offense but this, just my opinion.

I have to say, insta-banning for something so insignificant as that without any warning whatsoever is pretty stupid. It's not like there's a big flashing banner that says "YOU CAN'T ADVERTISE" anywhere, or I sure didn't notice it. In fact, I considered putting a link to the other site I'm on (or rather, one of them) in my signature before posting this thread, and do you think I'd come back if they banned me for what looked like no reason?

You're now accusing my forum of being full of spammers, and somehow too incapable or incompetent to ban them. I am officially offended. This kind of possibility is why affiliation involves the mods or admins of either forum potentially looking over the other for such things.

You're worried about trollers/spammers/etc., but you would rather pay to advertise somewhere vastly more likely to have them than advertise somewhere full of at least slightly intelligent people for absolutely free? This line of reasoning is indescribably faulty. You want people who really enjoy roleplaying to show up? Start affiliating with more obscure sites.

Let me reiterate:
The internet is different from the physical world. You can be in two places at once on the internet. I'm sure I'm not the only person who needs more than one place to avoid becoming bored, or theoretically as backups in case there was some kind of intense conflict. I don't understand how anyone can be so greedy about something that grants no profit, especially when sharing would benefit both ends of the deal.

No need to get heaty. Aerandir told you everything you should know about advertising here.

We do not insta-ban of course without a proper reason and even if we don't have flashing sign that says "dont advertize plx" we are taking this seriously. Like it or not.
