Heh, I like that 'on topic' Idea, that might keep real questions alive rather then burried in 'rate the siggy' sort of stuff. (Not that its bad if you enjoy those; its just they get very long very quickly)

As for a pure anime thread, that might actualy be a bit detrimental. The way the forums are set up now encourage cross-over type RPs. Steampunk or scifi-meets-fantasy. If you construct a specific genre-organized branch, then its going to pretty well lock-in the style, and the only creativity will be within the bounds of the show/manga/whathaveyou.

As weird as this sounds, and not on this forum, my friend and I actualy had a mechwarrior-Gundam crossover that went surprisingly well. Never make up RP ideas at 3am on Mt Dew and Pixie Stix. >_>

Forgive me if this sounds rude, but from what I noticed in the guild, am I the only person here who is NOT an anima... fan? (almost said something that wasn't nice) Yeah, of course there are people like me, but there are so many manga-nuts here its the stereotype for a roleplayer, you know, the really bizzare ones that are Gungum and Naruto fans that are so outlandish they piss of the D'n'D addicts (another roleplaying stereotype). Trust me albireo, you will not have trouble finding people in the guild you can discuss manga with.

Now, that aside, well, yeah, the idea of having a separate forum section (IC or OOC) is kinda stupid. Its dumb for IC as it limits creativity, for one is limited only to the manga genre, and there can't be D'n'D references or stuff from North American culture (as I can't see Gungum people liking someone bringing in a spartanish character into roleplay, merely an example though). Its stupid for OOC because, well, we would then have to made separate OOC for other popular topics (like video games and movies and the such).

You really want to talk about anything manga, then post the OOC thread accordingly and have your fun. A separate section for it, regardless of popularity, isn't necessary. I will agree with the motion to have a section on Serious Discussion vs Thread games and Spam.

YOU sound like you want people to know your mean. You could have left the last part out saying you almost said something that wasn't nice. But that is my analysis of what you write. Now that I got that part over with.

I'm sure alot of people will be glad to join it but I think it will just be a pain in our (the mods) necks when other people want to create a Video game forum and what ever.

BUT we will talk about it with the other mods I'm sure.

It seems everyone is discussing the idea of a separate section for anime RPs, while I think the original suggestion was in fact for an anime discussion forum.

albireo, correct me if I am wrong.

Turn this thread into a poll, consisting of the choices.

That should give a good read-out.

I am more for the serious discussion than the anime. I have an extensive knowledge of a variety of anime. But its a thing I'm slowly losing interest in.

Though with a forum for serious discussions, threads like 'religion'/etc(braindead, can't think) would remain visible and thus not pronounced dead.

There are a couple of threads I liked to read, but my brain is awol today.

all for SD(serious discussion) say 'I'

This idea would be infeasible i'm afraid. We would need to create a subsection for anime in all three main roleplay sections. And then of course others would suggest that we create more subsections for sci-fi, arena, medieval etc etc, and we would end up with a forum divided into 60 different subsections which would not only be a nightmare to moderate, but for new members of the boards to find their way around.

Since i've been a member the forum has undergone three changes, the last change was to the current structure and to be honest, i think me AND everyone would find it even more aof a headache to work out where everything is and such. I hope you get what i'm trying to explain.

Although I agree that having separate sections for Anime, sci-fi, fantasy, movies, books, ect. would be a bad idea.. there are a number of people who like to talk about such things seriously for discussions.

So, why not make it simple? A serious discussion forum could host home to a lot of topics. Politics, religion, global warming, war.. all of those are generally very serious topics. But why should a serious topic forum be limited only to the things that generally get people depressed?

Having a serious discussion about anime inside a serious discussion forum wouldn't be so bad, would it? And it wouldn't cause such a nightmare for the mods. Some people may even want a serious discussion on what kind of pet they should get from people they know, rather than some random forum with no one they know there.

It's just a suggestion, but why couldn't the SD {Serious Discussion} forum hold a variety of topics rather than limited to ones that, in my experiance as a forum browser, have often lead to flame wars and heated arguements? Basically, all I'm saying is that an SD forum could hold a world of possibilities for serious discussions on a multiple layer of topics as long as people understood that the discussions were serious and not for spamming the thread.

Thats my vision of SD Karana, not just talk on Politics and "topics that get people depressed" but also talking about anime and basically any kind of serious discussion or debate.

Mind you, the point of this topic was to discuss an anime subsection in the off topic forum - I see it has digressed to a discussion for the separation of SD from spam... something we have been crying out for since the beginning of the "Rate this Sig" thread.
