Thanks, I was trying to point things once again in the on-topic direction, and also to point that most of the anime discussion has been assuming you wanted a role play section for anime - which I don't think was the case.

And my suggestion still stands, for a serious discussion forum wherein serious talk of anime as well as anything else that is to be discussed or debated with some level of seriousness would belong.

I

Though it should be called something other than "Serious Discussions", same reason why "Advanced" shouldn't be called that. It implies that you have to be a really smart person talking about a serious topic such as Geopolitics, global warming, and social studies, and therefore no room for not-so-serious topics such as video games, movies, and of course anima.

Oh, and I was originally going to say 'anima-freak' in my last post, which now that I think about it doesn't sound as mean as the phrase in parentheses.

I agree Mikodite, with the name being a problem.

I think that if your intimidated by the word 'advanced' then you should stick to beginner and casual. Its as simple as that.

What else are we suppose to call that forum?
'The forum for roleplays with longer and more detailed posts'?

If your intimidated by the word 'advanced' then stick to your comfort zone. Thats just how it is.

And Candi, I am all for your suggestion. A serious discussion forum could contain threads of different levels of seriousness. The word 'serious' here, would tell the members not to spam in the threads in that forum. If you want uncoordinated conversation, go to the off-topic forum. When you want a serious discussion(about whatever topic, anime, roleplaying, politics, etc) then go here. Here, people will add to the conversation in a constructive way. They will not jump in, drop their two cents, and jump out. They will read, understand, ponder, and reply accordingly.

I have had several discussions on different boards where (I won't call them 'newbs' but they were quite incompetent.) people would just jump in and throw off the swing of conversation.

But with a forum directed at 'serious' discussions(about whatever topic) the swing of conversation can remain steady and comfortably moving.

Miko, Don't take what I'm saying as being snobbish(my custom title is a joke!), ok? I'm not trying to offend anyone, or put anyone down. All people are equal to me. But there are different levels of competence. And your not going to tell me that every single person who comes to this board should feel completely comfortable. Sometimes you have to get used to things.

You said yourself that you don't like 'sugar-coating' things, so asking to change the name of the 'advanced' forum will do nothing but contradict your own words.

A person needs to feel obligated to put more effort into their posts in that forum, ok?

And in the serious discussion, one should feel that same obligation to perform. If you(not you, Miko. In general.) feel that you cannot give a decently-sized contribution to the topic/roleplay/etc then don't post.

A new forum dedicated to serious conversations could be grand contribution to the board.

This forum can serve to caress the important conversations that we all enjoy to participate in. Not to mention it would help to sort the blabber from the coherent.

Nothing I have said here was directed to offend.

Thank you isudae for putting words into my incoherent thoughts on the topic. Everything you say I agree with completely, I was kind of fence sitting on the topic of the name and I, sad to say, only skimmed Mikodite's post before posting my own. Been trouble lately, but that's off topic.

I really think we need a Serious Discussion forum. Once we have it we can easily show by example what we are looking for in it - and move the serious discussion topics from off-topic to the SD forum and that also will lay the bottom line for it all.

And not to mention Mahz having the nice little "SD Forum Guidelines" sticky at the top.

All in all, serious discussion is exactly what we need, name and content alike. I dont think anyone enjoys sifting through the not-so-serious posts to find the conversations and discussions they are after. And I am not just talking about religion and politics.

Well, now tahat the serious-thing has been settled, why don't we actullay talk about anime?
I'd like to know what genre do you like the most, mine is seinen, especially the "fantasy ones", like berserk (best manga of all times), hunter x hunter, altough i like also Mx0 and I read to many others...

I like them cause heroes have superpowers, but they are limited in some way (not like naruto-bleach-dragonball...) and, to win, is required some actual thinking and tactic abilities. (Well, berserk is different, but the storyline kicks ass)

The answer would be because OTD has no anime thread started, perhaps start one. But this is not the place for it as it is off topic for the thread.
