Some good role plays end but you forget a certain element.
Role plays are part book and part game. So Yes a good role play can go on forever just like many games have no definite end. But a good role play can also end. If this is put in I think the thread starter should be the only one who can declare it dead or atleast have some say in it.

Of course it's always up to the author if it ends - but authors have less control over death.
~ And I agree, some are destined for death not conclusion - but there are many that would inevitably culminate in conclusion (anything that starts with a goal for example or that relies on a primary antagonist is effectively and potentially over when the goal is reached or the antagonist dies). |

Myes, I already suggested this problem to Mahz like... 2 weeks ago (Ooooh yes Light&darkness... I know you took that idea from surreal twilight ^.^)
And he said he was going to work on it, All the old threads or... Stupid died threads go to.. hell or something, But the good/completed/epic threads get a own thingie... A special sub-section will be made for this... Well, That's what Mahz said to me.. So, Hang on >.<

Why does it sound like I'm the only person that disagrees with this? I mean, come'on, am I the only person that thinks it's stupid to give a seperate section to threads that were purposely killed by the thread starter because they felt it was over? What would this hope to accomplish, other then pleasing the egos of various roleplay snobs that want to say "Look! My rp was so successful I had to close the thread to kill it!"?

All rps have an end but it is not necessarily The End. This is true here as it is with dice rps. Once an adventure is over there is always the possibility of more following however it is up to the thread creator (gm, or whatever) to either create the continuation or hand the rp over to someone else to continue the adventure. The completetion of a thread is merely the end of one group of adventures.
Also, having a place for the completed threads would be more for enjoyment than ego boosting (I would hope so at least), so people can read the thread as a story and enjoy the adventure. I'm sure more than a couple people here have just read thread rather than participate and kept coming back to see the newest post. just my two cents worth... |

Candi, who simply reads a roleplay they have no intention of joining, or know they couldn't join if they wanted to.
Now, seriously, who in Chasing Shadows was, even a bit, pissed at Donta for closing the thread? If I was in it I would have been upset. I mean, yes the Demon Lord thing as been defeated, but what kind of flat storyline can you have where that would be the only thing that needed wrapping up in the end? Wait, how about resolving one of the subplots that would emerge in a thread that went well past 1000 posts, or did the story only deal with the darn demon thing that went around? Mind you I only know what was in the first few pages, having to read it when the genius of a thread starter recycled his character into another thread I was posting on. Why can't some of you admit that complete means killed by closing? |

Because it's not. It's completely likely that a roleplay ends with all things wrapped up. Books do it, DnD games do it, why can't freeform RPs? Plots need to stop somewhere, otherwise your plots by the end are trivial or just dumb, like movies that have sequel after sequel until they ruin it.
