Limewire...bah. First day trying that, I ended up uninstalling it and completely redoing my registry, complete with Windows files. That thing doesn't devour, it destroys.

Meh with limewire.
I use it for music, and some anime episodes. That's about it.
I don't use it a lot because it takes an hour to download a 30 minute episode.

You could go download Ubuntu, burn it onto a disk, and then use that disk to browse the internet until you get your computer fixed (or get a new one).

It's worked for me in the past, and since it's free... you might as well give it a shot.

I wouldn't build an extra laptop. Sounds to me like you should be a two computer guy: use a desktop (yeah, desktop, they're WAY cheaper and can be WAY better) for all your nerdy coding and limewire downloads and all that jazz, and keep your laptop light.
