put the url for the pic in (img) (/img) tags (with square brackets not round). just upload the pic to somewhere like photobucket if it isnt already on the net

the same way you did your avatar.
You need to get the code from image shack and put [IMG] and [/IMG] around it. Make sure that it is the right size too. besides that I can't say much. You might be copying the code wrong.

without the letter R in the tags \/  upload your image here and get the http address, cut-copy it into the message box, add [imRg] [/Rimg] to either side of the address (without the R's), and hit preview to see if it comes up. If it doesn't, I'm wrong, and I will help you further.
