Default My Gratitude Towards The Guild

It was recently brought to my attention that this forum possesses many qualities in its roleplaying that other sites don't have. Before I get too deep into this, note that I'm posting this because I feel like being a suck-up at the moment, but because I just want to express why I think that Roleplay Guild is an excellent site for mature (by that I mean ethically sound), creative, and inticing roleplaying. I've had an awesome experience with the members on this board. The roleplays I've come across and have read from the beginning to current post have very much intrigued me. Mahz has formulated a wonderful site with a good variety and has proven this site to be more than capable of competing with other sites.

To start off, I would like to say that I've seen more creativity and complexity than that of any other roleplaying community. Take Gaia Online for instance; most of their roleplays die within the first that they're started. If you're one of the people who makes a new thread on that site, then chances are, if you don't "bump" your thread to the top soon, then it WILL die within the next few hours. It CAN be proven (go check it out for yourself if you don't believe me). The contrast is this: RP Guild doesn't constantly get about 100 new threads a day and doesn't impose on a roleplayer's creative imagination. Instead, RP Guild grants the thread-starter the capability to move and develope their stories as need arises. In Gaia, to get any where, you have to practically donate money to them to have a successful thread. I realize that Mahz will be eventually asking for donations, but I'm pretty damn sure that he won't come anywhere close to holding a bucket in front of your nose and saying, "Gimme da money, sucka!"

Secondly, those who roleplay here have shown me what true roleplaying is really about: it's about having fun and being creative! When I was roleplaying on Gaia, everything was about competition; who's thread could last the longest! I hated having to bump my thread up every hour just to get people to recognize that I had a good story. Also, RP Guild is an actual roleplaying environement. Gaia has incorporated games, guilds, coins, customizable avatars, stores, and all of this glitter crap that has taken away from the true meaning of roleplaying. In fact, only ONE freakin' forum on their site is actually dedicated to roleplaying. Most of the members are distracted by the extra features so much that they only sign on to update their avatar and make it look like the next in Barbie modelling. RP Guild doesn't have those ridiculous distractions. It's totally dedicated to roleplaying and encourages originallity.

This brings to my third point, I hate it when sites (like Gaia) put so much stress towards an individual to come with a story or plot that has to be about something generic. Here's my response to that: SHUT THE !@#$ UP!!! Here at the Guild, who cares about whether or not your rp is generic. I've seen a few roleplays that don't have to deal with zombies, a virus, and shooting things in the head! I've seen roleplays that aren't always about vampires, Harry Potters, and cuddly animals! I've seen originallity, I've participated in original threads. I've read the exciting new things that you've guys have come up with and have smiled on the fact that I'm allowed to be here! You guys have this way of coming together and discussing new ideas for a new roleplay; like what Mikodite is doing right now; and even the DnD thread in this forum. That is UNIQUE! That is ORIGINAL! And best of all, THAT'S INCREDIBLE!!! Gaia members would never do that! You know why? Because they're too busy worring about crap like avatar clothing and being the richest person on the site by posting spam everywhere. Sites like that could care less about whether or not you want to start up a good roleplay. They wouldn't care; the moderators and admins would just shove out of their way like snow on the sidewalk and then turn ya yellow.

And don't think that I'm a "Gaia Hater" because I'm not trying to get across here. I'm only using Gaia as an example because it's the heart of corrupt roleplaying. It's like this amobia that keeps on spreading its ideas to other roleplaying communities and taking away from the heart of creativity. I've heard someone on here say (can't remember who it was) that play-by-post roleplaying is beginning to fade away. They're 100% right! Soon, Gaia will probably get rid of its "Barton Town" roleplaying forum to make room for new games and shops. The roleplaying world is beginning to fade away into oblivion and I see RP Guild as a shining beacon of light in that darkness (even though its color format is a dark satan grey).

I've always known that roleplaying was about having fun. But I didn't realize just how much that meant until I left Gaia and found you guys. You've really inspired a lot (and I mean a lot!) of creativity in me and I would just like to send out a major THANK YOU to all members on this board. It has been an amazing experience for me and I'm sad to say that you guys are the only, truely advanced roleplaying community that I have ever had the pleasure of coming across.

So I guess you would hate Anathema Online then? Its basically Gaia Online without the games. My computer wouldn't let me join it though, don't know why, so they would never know the wonder that is Mikodite Yvette! Thanks for the complement by the way.

I agree though, this is a kick-ass site. Nice way to kill time at work (relax I work the techie desk in a library) as there is something cool happening.

This is coming from someone that got hooked to Endless Online when I was 16, henz the birth of Ms Yvette, had their fun with some pretty neat and weird characters, got married, got divorced, got married again, joined a guild only for it to disband, tried starting a rp guild that never took off, ended up shopping for other games, and eventually quit when the world had one thousand people in it and no one to moderate it: it became a sespool for idiot newbs, hackers, marcos and cyber-monkeys; not to mention my friends quit.

I still like MMOs, and would be playing Perfect World if my anti-virus would let me, but people were so wrapped up in being the highest level with the best armor, best weapons and best spells, and it gets boring if all you do is double click this ugly thing and click a flashy icon on the bottom of the screen. If only an MMO would do away with that and give us a game with a Zelda-ish combat sysem and more ways to interact than you can count.

Back to this site. I have yet to make many enemies on this site, and I got a few from the Endless Online, and later Planeshift forums, and even in IMVU, which gets boring unless you pay money for a mature pass. I'm sure their coming though, much like in youtube: not yet, but soon. I think I made one person cry thus far here, so I'm doing ok I guess.

Anyways, I say good job. The mods are a nice and attentive bunch, unlike in the Endless Online forums where they were either missing or being dicks. I know of another forum where the admin was the touchest guy I've ever met.

Well, I'm done, and I figure that this would sound like non-sensical ranting, but it tis how I feel. Love ya all, and we shall roleplay out in the future.

Preach it, Rogue! I left Gaia a while ago for the exact same reasons. I think it's horrible that the site heavily encourages spamming by doing no less than paying you for it! "Hm! 200 posts in the last hour and a half? Super! Here's 500 gold!" I AM saying I'm a Gaia hater, because it's sites like that that end up ruining sites very similar to this one. Gaians find out about other roleplaying sites, join up, and spam the hell out of them until everyone but the Gaians are left. I have come to love this site in the very short amount of time I've been here, and I've referred two people to it, one of which has joined. Here, my roleplays actually have a chance if I try hard enough, and people actually pay attention to the ones they join.
The people.. Wow. Just wow. The membership here is the most creative, intelligent group of roleplayers I've found yet. Even the mods, who on other sites are either nonexistent or evil, not only read but play in the roleplays on the site. The community here is no less than astounding. I can't possibly say how impressed I am by this site.

I've recently made a Harry Potter-themed rp, but were kind of making it our own. We threw out characters like Harry and Hermione, and were plugging in oiur own to make our own story out of the setting J.K Rowling has made for us.

All the other Harry Potter rps I've seen have assigned characters like Malfoy and Ron to someone, so that people were playing someone elses' characters. I love that people on this site are more creative than people on others.

I'm glad that our guild is here and filled with awesome people that are always willing to give a RP a chance, and to teach the newbies whats what.

As cool as this thread is, I wonder if it is in the right place?

Anyways, this is a fun site. The mods are awesome and attentive people, the community is rather intellegent and creative, but also forgiving to newbs. The level system, with Beginner, Casual, and Advance, does draw in people and separate the text whores from the one-liner newbs. Good show.

I came from the Battleon Forums originally (Yeah, the Adventure Quest one). For those of you who don't know it, which is everyone here I think, it is something really horrible. I stumbled upon Roleplaying there, tucked in a back corner like a gemstone covered with dust, while looking for someone to tell me how to make the online game fun. Never found it. But, I was hooked to roleplaying, almost immediately. Met some great people there, and learned the basics of roleplaying. But now, four months later, I'm here. And I've just removed AQ (and another really shitty site called RPGDreamer, but more on that later) from my favorites.

Battleon forums was dying. Unlike the problems with spamming that you all describe, my roleplaying preschool was dying for want of someone to post. Since I've left, there is not one roleplay that is updated daily. No joke. It was considered "active" to post once a week! Furthermore, you were only allowed to host one active roleplay at a time. I was soon bored. Bored out of my mind.

So, I went looking for another site, not seeking to replace, but to augment. There, I wound up at RPGDreamer. Don't ever go there. After my second post, my character was killed, without my consent, by a macho-want-to-be bastard. Who then flamed me on the OOC, because he didn't like my character. Now, I'll admit, there are much better character creators, but as some of you here have noticed, I'm mostly about adding spice to roleplays; adding something interesting. Needless to say, I was gone from there quickly.

Running out of patience, I stumbled upon your group here. And I found a home. From the warm welcomes I received in my intro thread, to the first roleplays I joined (which have, alas, died) I instantly recognized a place that fit my needs as a roleplayer, writer, and most of all, as a human being.

Thank you all. This site could very easily be bad. Instead, it is perhaps my favorite hobby.

I love this site because I came here as a novice and you guys just help me along like I've been here since forever!
You guys are excellent teachers, and excellent neighbors.
And I thank you for welcoming me into the fantastic world of RPGs.

Testify, sistah... er.. brother... yeah. Non-gender sibling-figure!

I've been RPing since I was 8. Serriously, anyways. Online I've waded through the garbage of public chat sites (scifi.com) and the forums that die without being bumped every hour (avidgamers).

I've had rediculously good RPs that I miss to this day (Robin Hood where I played one of the Sherrif's knights) and I've had days where I wonder why I even bother (Redwall where suddenly a 'tiger elf' conjured a magic sword that made kamehameha blasts...)

I only stumbled onto this site through google a few weeks ago, and I've already gotten to stretch the proverbial thought-muscle in three active RPs whose characters have absolutely nothing to do with eachother's genres. It's rare to find a forum that allows people to just drop an RP idea out there and see if someone else bites; usualy they're cordoned off into 'sci-fi, fantasy, etc' with strict boundaries between them; their players never interacting unless they willingly wander over the fence.

Just sticking it out there that I love the way this site lets people throw ideas around like the text equivalent of a food fight. Dont change a thing! =D
