Tero Family:
A true follower of Aelius the benevolent deity of the sun who shines upon us! Since his first years in this realm his faith is strong and his wisdom impressive. Like all Tero, Sampo was educated within the family house to be a follower of Aelius, being Archaic Aelists they followed some substandard methods of achieving oneness with Aelius. Through mental and physical practice one cleans ones mind of corruption which is ever present in todays society as it was before the apocalypse. Many think unknowingly that Aelius caused it but the Tero family knew better, it was indeed human decadency and corruption that caused the apocalypse. So in an effort to avoid repeating of history they bought a house in the newly established human goverment, which looks more like a small castle than a house, in which they secluded themselves from society in this "Monastery" until they reached adulthood at the age of 22. At the age of adulthood a great feast is held in which the new adult may not participate. He must watch but he cannot join, this is a test to see if the prospect is ready for life outside the "Monastery". Once there the main goal of all Tero family members is to convert by example. The Tero family is a family of blood related monks and some outsiders who got in after passing the five tests of Tero. Basically there are four roles in the Tero family;
- The role of leader, which means you live your life with the monastery as your house and you will get married, many get this goal after they felt that the life on the road wasn't theirs anymore. Your tasks are to keep the house running and make the big decisions, there are ten leaders at all time excluding the family head who has the right of veto over everything, but this right is almost in disuse. The family head is the oldest male family member and his is the leader amongst the leaders.
- The role of wanderer, which means you live your life on the road without the right of property beyond what you took from the monastery and your basic needs, you act as an example in society and always wear the trademark orange gown. Most family members get this role and the most losses in family members are suffered in this role, be it to the tempting world or to the weapons and/or claws of the various dangers out there.
- The role of teacher, which means you live you life in the monastery after you were a wanderer and pass on your knowledge to the next generation, this role is predominated by the women, most of which are not fit for a life on the road.
- The role of student, which means you are under twenty two and so have to listen to all other brothers and sisters to learn humbleness and study hard to become wise.
Biography:
When the time of adulthood had come up on Sampo he had to participate in the test, there he was, in the middle point of the party, on an elevated chair somewhat higher than the rest the centre of the attention. But he could not participate, he wasn't allowed to eat from the delicious meals, he was not allowed to converse with the people, he was not allowed to close his eyes and ears to the fun people were making and the good time they were having. he was not allowed to do anything but just sit there and look around, smelling the delicious meals and hearing the fun people were having and looking at the pure temptation. And to top it all this feast lasted four hours and he had forgotten to eat well just before the feast so his craving for the food was unmatchable, his best friends and closest teachers were on his table, all instructed to tempt him into engaging in conversation or eating of the delicious food and drink of the great wines. But at that time Sampo was craving to get out of the think walls of the Monastery so he just sat there neglecting himself out of self interest.
He passed the test that night, the first thing he did was run to the outfitter room and once there he picked a nice fitting gown, his personal staff and some new leather sandals along with a small pouch of money. After that he rushed out of the monastery right into the city he had been gazing at from the walls for so long looking everywhere for something interesting to do, though only the pubs where still open so he eventually walked into a random tavern where he started a feast of his own, the next morning he woke up with his face in a plate still half filled with his fourth serving. His pouch gone as well as his new sandals, only his staff and his gown left. Leandra, one of his teachers was standing right behind him, a sad look on her face. A sad face of the still young Sampo was replied to with a crude but true remark and no aide whatsoever. This event truly put a stamp on his life, the following months were filled with a need for footwear, money and a clear conscience.
Another notable event that shaped Sampo’s life was that at a certain point a rough 9 years later he ran into a couple of trolls, these trolls were quite ugly, and coincidently they acted accordingly, because they were in fact attacking a young adventurer. Trying to do the right thing at once our young Tero rushed in to his aide, one of the trolls swung his bat at the laying adventurer and if not for the monk this would have ended here. Sampo quickly placed himself between the trolls and the adventurer who had a snapped leg. After 15 minutes of fighting, evading and blocking attacks thrown at him and counter attacking himself but it was to no avail, his attacks seemed to do no damage at all and he would not be able to keep this up forever and then one of the trolls managed to get through his defence with a low sweep. Sampo fell straight to the ground and terrified to death he crawled backwards very fast, the trolls for some reason redirected their attention to the adventurer. Sampo got up and tried to rush in to the adventurers aide once more but he couldn’t. He was mortified, instead of doing what his mind told him he ran as fast as he had ever ran before, leaving the adventurer alone to die it seemed. Ashamed by his deeds Sampo that day decided this would never happen again. What followed was a period of pure training and meditation, training to never be unable to protect a defenceless person ever again and meditation to get his body under control and get rid of that selfish overdose of value for his own life and gain.
Years later when the period of training and meditation was behind him and he lived life as a pure avatar of what the Tero order stood for, playing his part and trying to be a hand and a foot for all that needed either with little value for the self and an almost constant frown on his brow. Though it would disappear like snow to the sun if anything amusing or “good” happened. Anyways those years later around his forties he ran into the adventurer again, the guy he thought dead because of him. He explained that his name was Brady Boyer and that if not for his intervention he would have died because it gave him the time to reinforce his hurt leg and that aided him in getting out, as well as the spikes and needles on his back. Sampo explained that the encounter had caused him to achieve what he was always meant to be a Tero Monk. Brady then explained that he had an ambitious plan to explore beyond the known world of hook and as a repayment for the lesson Brady thought he decided to help him by getting a couple of mercenaries as well as fortune searchers and by accompanying him to the land beyond the forrest.
