Alright, this actually stemmed out from a conversation in IRC, that got me thinking after watching a trailer for T4: Salvation (
LINKAGE) about the series from a different perspective. Sure a lot of us have grown up seeing the cheesy aspect of the movies (And the 80's Badarse-ness of T2), and even the T.V. show that some may argue is nothing but a watered down version of 24 with robots. But watching the trailer got me thinking of the more human aspect of what could possibly be achieved by the series.
The year will be around 2020, so expect our world now, but in ruins. I will not specify Judgement Day, because it's always changing. For now, think of it as tomorrow afternoon. A computer virus that started somewhere small, as some quick money making scheme grew out of control when a small group of MIT drop outs wanted to foil the system. The virus itself threatened to not only break the banks of America, the problem then grew to a potential threat of collapsing the economy of every major country. Pretend if you will this issue is happening right now. The virus is branching out, also taking down bandwidth. First your Myspace doesn't load all the way. Then the Guild goes down. Eventually, 404 errors do not even register on your computer. The government, thinking they can out trump this, tries to implement SkyNET, the first ever AI into the system. The goal is to wipe out all traces of the virus. The AI itself was designed for military purposes. Estimated in 3 years time was the belief that generals would never be needed again, and the super computers of the world would run the schematics for war as we needed them. The thing no one was expecting was to how great this would come to effect. Once the AI had eradicated the virus, it continued to learn, feed even off the internet. Databases, everything it could, it learned at an alarming rate. The government fearing this tried to pull the plug.
As I write this, air raid sirens are going off at the military base behind me. Maybe that tornado drill you hear outside isn't actually for the bad weather.
SkyNET could not be plugged. About the time that leaders tried to do so, something was realized: SkyNET had no single component. Now a part of every single computer in the world, it saw what humanity was doing to it and preceded to mark it as its latest target. Already a genius of the battlefield, it calculated a plan that would seal the deal for the fate of humanity. At exactly 2:15 tomorrow it launches 6 nuclear ICBMs at four countries: Russia, Germany, France, China, and Great Britain. In retaliation, immediately the countries fire back, and in less than thirty minutes 6 of the greatest powers in the world are wiped clean of any form of leadership. And about that time, SkyNET begins the next procedure of its new mission: To terminate.
Fast forward 10 years. You are a resistance fighter somewhere in what was once known as Las Vegas, Nevada of the former United States of America. The war is raging, and surprisnly, humanity managed to pull some moves that effectively kept the tide of war at bay. You are a team, and as such, must rely on each other to finish a mission that the general of the resistance has passed to you: Sabotage a weapons facility, secure a t-800 Terminating syste, from the assembly line, and return to the frontlines of Los Angeles to hopefully push back the onslaught of the machines. To win is to ensure the victory of humanity.
You cannot lose.
Alright, there we go! If anyone's interested, PM me, leave a message in here, anything really. ^^
