I've recently decided to do some research into Internet browsers. The goal in-mind is to make a new article on the subject.
So far I've had the pleasures of experimenting with three(only three come to mind at this moment, anyway.) of the mainstream browsers: Internet Explorer(I was raised on Windows.) Firefox, and Safari. Now, of the three I have recently grown fond of Safari. Yes, I think that Firefox is superior to all others, but the interface and features of Safari are really that of what I prefer. Firefox supports more complex Javascript coding, but it (for me) seems to load images and webpages much slower than Safari. Another sub-note would be that the message box(post-box?) can be freely resized by dragging the edge in safari, which helps with arranging paragraphs when writing longer posts. In firefox one can only lengthen the box vertically via the small arrows in the top-right corner of the box. Internet Explorer is just obnoxiously clunky and slow, even the No-add-ons version, so I'm going to stray away from this one for now. My knowledge of technical details is rather shallow, figuratively, so please feel free to share any information, opinions etc. Also, recommendations for non-mainstream browsers would be nice. Please also include whether or not you think this should either be it's own article, or an add-on to my article on Posting. The basic idea is to find an ideal browser for the guild. Most sites say that they are "best viewed in Firefox" but I'm looking for features that help make the rpguild experience better. The resizable post-message box is a major pro for me, though the lack of java-scripts means I can't use the guild's drop-down menus.

I am deeply sorry to anyone who would've chosen Chrome over Firefox for this poll, but I have edited in Chrome. Please forgive my mistake.
I use Google chrome occasionally, but honestly it's still in the beta stage and lacks many features and revisions, though I will say that it does have the nice resizable message box that I'm so fond of. Not to mention that each tab takes up a process. Good for performance on the browser's side, but many of these can cause poor over-all performance.

Mozilla should be worried about Chrome, for doesn't Mozilla get money from Google?
Alas, I just love Firefox, would never go back to IE ever again. I don't mind Safari, and I haven't tried Chrome. |

Both Safari and Firefox display RpG well. I'm using Camino, a Mac native using the same engine as Firefox. I prefer that though, but it does lack the "privacy surfing" feature that Safari has.
p/s: Shouldn't this be in Off Topics? o.o??? Ignore this question if I'm wrong though.

I've only experienced Firefox and IE. Firefox is alright for performance but some sites don't show up or not everything will show up unless you get some addons I believe. IE looks nice and has some pretty good features, but it crashes a lot on me. >.< Makes me want to switch to Firefox.

Firefox all the way. There are no substitutes when it comes to security and versatility. A well-tuned Firefox browser can make getting viruses a thing of the distant past.

I've noticed that Chrome loads this forum the fastest. It's even faster if you ONLY open things in Incognito windows :P
But I do like Firefox's add-ons (and the fact that it and IE are the only ones that support my lappy's fingerprint thing), but I wouldn't mind a version of FasterFox for v3...(if there isn't one yet...haven't checked...). I also LOVE the security it offers (not that I need it :P) I dislike IE...completely...so I ONLY use it to download licenses when I move protected music from one of my compies to another. I can honestly say I've never Safari (not an Apple fan). |
