I have a hard time trying to get myself into an rp, I think it has to do with the character I am using. Should I perhaps start my own interest checks in basic? I would rather join into someone else's ideas and story line though than having to make my own. I was also looking in a lot of the 1x1 roleplays. What should I look for in 1x1s if I don't want to get into romance? Thanks for any advice o:

Are you just not having fun in the RP? Or is it an actual problem of joining the RP itself? Are you always using the same character? Or are you creating a new one each time? Also running your own RP is a big undertaking and takes a lot of persistence. It's not a matter of making a story and finding players. It also entails keeping the players, and keeping their interest. A lot of times, a game will just dissolve and it will having nothing to do with what you are doing. You have to just keep at it, until you find a group of players that will stick with it to the end. I don't want to steer you away from starting your own RP, I just want you to understand that starting an RP is not as simple as it may seem. |

Create a character fit for the RP. Is it about an evil overlord conquering a medieval fantasy world? Make a squire to someone's knight. That way you just secured your place in the RP and a conversation partner (given your writing is up to standard). Sci-fi exploration? Every starship has need of a medic! Just start out with the archetypes with obvious roles if you find it difficult to fit in your character. They may sound bland at first but how bland they will be all depends on your skill as a player. Something unique will be no better than something cliché if the execution is equal. In all honesty, if you're sticking in basic I don't think that will be much of a problem to GM one. Just make sure you get some experience before starting your own thread in casual/advanced, 'cause people are a bit more critical on these grounds. EDIT: Germane, I understand your concern and to a limit I even agree. But you have to understand, freedom and self-moderation are some of the principles of the guild. While I agree it gets difficult when a community grows, it is a very sound foundation for a smaller community, which the guild at one point was. The thing with big sites is, they grow to extremes. The guild is in phase medium. While this may seem chaotic to you, which in all honesty it is, but it could be way worse, the alternative is restrictive and wards off a lot of activity. Setting a structure, filtering curse-words (which would make a sound reason for me to leave this board), having tight rules, etc. Makes the board go into the direction of... Well, your stereotype Nazi-board with powerhungry mods and indirectly supported elitism. It is how fora work. There are no lasting exceptions. One again, your suggestion would work on a small board with a tight community - not one that is accessible to everyone. Besides, I'm not all that fond of the idea of having current mods run the writing sections. Basically our communication comes down to mostly 'hey move this thread, thanks' for a good reason. So where is the middle ground? Well to be fair the only middle grounds I know of are the smaller fora. Once something becomes bigger certain stereotypes of people assemble and what makes a board in the end is after all its members. The problem with the smaller fora however is that they are hard to find and you've practically got to RP with the same people every RP, possibly socialize because otherwise you'll miss out on certain things in the IC or OOC itself. I think the slowness to making new characters if that I have a habit of drawing them before I use them, I guess it's just a way to solidify them more for me. I will probably start doodling some generic characters tomorrow and start getting some ideas together.

| So do I. That or shortly after. Difference might be that I primarily RP in advance which has a slower pace... But you can try to create a character that could fit in a variety of settings, then look for an RP it could fit in.

I have a question!!! *raises hand* Uh... *clears throat* What does OOC after a roleplay title mean? Does that mean out of character? And then people also put IC after roleplay titles, I don't know what that means... |
