A Slightly out of-the-ordinary arena proposal.
One thing I've always enjoyed about Sci-fi shows/movies is the starship battles, both the fleet battles (I.E. Dominion war in star trek, battle above corasunt) to the small scale engagements (I.E Enterprise vs Reliant, Galactica vs a Cylon base ship and Enterprise-E vs the Scimitar)
Unfortunately situations that would allow me to indulge in such fights in an RP rarely come up and when they do don't really focus on the fight much but on the characters state of mind during said fight. So the question I ask is would anyone be interested in such an arena RP to pit starships against each other. Practically any ship could be picked for use in my opinion, though I would hope that blatantly over the top ships would be left out. Standard Rp rules would apply, High end casual-advanced standards, no god moding, etc. I'm not really expecting more than on or two people would be interested but if there is more the possibility exists for a small fleet engagement. So, thoughts, ideas, expressions of interest?

It sounds interesting, and if you could get it to work, I would definetly be amazed. :]
Personally, I wouldnt be able to do it, because im not used to that sort of rping. Plus, with it being a starship, you'll have to add in little things like, number of guns/types/what they do/etc.. Every little detail would be important.

Yes! Trantor vs. the Red Technocracy comes to mind!
For the Red Technocracy - Imagine a more realistic version of star wars, with scientific explanations for most things and space communism. Some examples can found here, if you look back a page or so. *Charles{NTS} kicking ass! For Trantor - Imagine the ships from gundam, and gundams. Really, if you peruse the IC forum you will find all the information you need.

In theory the small details would be important, in practice maybe not as much. My personal preference for RPing fights is that it stays interesting and fun for the people involved. The final outcome of who wins or loses really isn't an issue for me so long as the battle itself was fun to play out.
As for getting all those details, that would really only be an issue if someone was to use a ship from their own imagination as most ships in Sci-fi's are reasonably well documented on the net. It wouldn't take long to find a description for a ship with google with appropriate details

Well, I have all those details in my head! I can give a laydown of basic Red Technocracy weapons tech if you want.
An OOB that'll never get done, and slightly outdated, too. (Does not represent current Red Technocracy technology level!)
