Christopher wanted to reassure her again that he was, in fact, nothing but another captive, but he had no idea how. He could not blame the elven girl for not believing him in her state. It did not matter anyway, for at this point, to the young man’s horror, Tanis took over. How could she speak to the poor girl like that, even jokingly? And gods, she was so damn patronizing, standing there calling him ‘her’ human, talking so nonchalantly about mating her with this poor girl. His eyes narrowed into a murderous glare, but he looked away, having too much decency to say all of it while she was on the magical communication device. Worse, she had given him this trembling girl that cowered behind the chest, probably knowing what he would do to her? Just as soon as the elven bedslave left, he lashed out at his new mistress.

“Overly emotional?! Can you blame her? Look at what you cruel beings have done to her?! Being mistreated and burned is not a joke to her! How can you be so insensitive to that? Even I can see what your sick bastard of a brother has done. Oh wait, I forgot, you are all just selfish, possessing no emotions beyond what affects you directly. Of course, that explains it. You think we are just little animals, playthings to fulfill your desires! Get it through your skulls that you do not own us! How could you treat any being as you treat that poor girl?! I swear, every single member of your arrogant race deserves to die a painful death,” Christopher yelled angrily. It was not that he really believed all of the words he was spewing from his emotional mouth, he was just lumping all dragons together out of his anger. Even he could see, had he been thinking rationally, that dragons were like humans, in that they were all different, some more evil than others, and that he was fortunate to have been captured by one who was not nearly as awful, just extremely patronizing and arrogant. After all, had he been truly afraid of her, his tongue would not have been quite so loose. Still, the anger, the shock at seeing the girl’s treatment, consumed him, making him spit out a far too emotional reaction.

Finally stopping, he looked at the elven slave, an astounded and horrified look on her face. Porcelain shards were at her feet, the remains of two small mugs that she had dropped in surprise. The young prince had been so angry that he had not even heard crashes. Christopher breathed deeply, calming down, but he knew that he was in deep trouble now. ‘Curse my tongue,’ he thought, angry at himself for lashing out, even if much of it was deserved. It had been an idiotic, irrational outburst, but he still believed that many of the words needed to be said. Someone had to deflate these arrogant dragons.

For a moment, Tanis just stood there, looking shocked and confused. She dind't move a mussel, just staring at Christopher, not a single emotion on her face. It was as if his lecture had numbed her mind, freezing her in time, a statue stuck staring off into space, not a single thing on her mind. Even when the young elf, deciding her life wasn't worth anything any more, and that this brave young prince, the one who so willingly stood up for her didn't deserve to die for that, threw herself in front of him, crying that Tanis wasn't to hurt him, even then she did nothing, just turning her impassive gaze on the girl, sighed and shook her head, then gently moved her aside before looking to Christopher, still rather blank, though her eyes held a look that was rather hard to tell, but as still some tiny emotion somewhere in their debth. This all took place in a matter of seconds, but for the three in the room, it must have seemed like hours. Then, finally, Tanis reacted. "You're right."

A little smile crossing her features, she nodded to the prince, as if he'd just played a good hand at a game of cards. "You're very right. That is what my kin is like. And that is what we deserve. Oh Christopher, you're right!" She cried, looking and sounding giddy. With a giggle, she hugged him, arms wrapping tight about his neck as she held onto him, up on her toes just to reach. Laughing again, she kissed his cheek, then stepped back beaming at him. "You're right." She declared with a smile, then slapped him. "Next time hold your tongue long enough to listen to me!"

With a shrug, she stepped back, nodding to the girl who was watching them with compleat confusion and shock, looking as if she was wondering if the child she held within her was giving her illusions or if she was in a dream. "She is with child." And obvious fact, but one still stated. "She is abused and, if my brother keeps at it, she and the little one will both be lost. As I'm sure you can see. How do we solve this problem? We simply take the girl from her. How? We claim you need a mate. Rather simple, no?" She asked, looking to him with a sharp glare. "So, as I said, my brother and I shall be talking later. And you." She added pointedly, "Shall be lustful and insistant upon having this girl as your mate. Understood?" she demanded, crossing her arms and glaring at him.

Then all of a sudden she was grinning again, clapping her hands happily. "Oh, this'll be perfect! You'll have a companion and someone to help with the work, and she and the child shall live, and with luck, I shall get a little extra treasure too!" She said brightly, looking the girl over carefully. "My brother owes me a favor or two....and if I treaten him enough, he'll agree well enough...." She said with a little nod. Laughing, she looked to Christopher, explaining, "You see, not many of my kin like my brother. They all prefer me, even if I am....odd, as they say. So if I say I gave him the princess, that is how it is. And he is disgrassed. If I say he stole the ruby, it was stolen, and he is no longer trusted. If I say he ate someone's princess, they'll be demanding compinsation. It's rather easy that way. Even so, we need this to work just right, or he'll gain power over me. I'm not that much more prefered then he, and in this world, every dragon that gets ahead of you is just one more to lord over you."

"Now, do you understand your task? You want the girl. You need the girl. She's the only one that will satisfy you. Understood? Make a nusince of yourself to get that point across. If you cause enough damage, maybe I'll get her free. Or with something extra." She said with a bright laugh. "So, when my brother gets here, just act like you want her. Can you do that?" She asked happily, seeming to not consider the fact that Christopher might not like the plan. Whether or not he would wasn't clear to her, but in her mind, it didn't matter. Her plan was brilliant, and so he'd agree.

Giggling, she hugged him once more, favoring him with another kiss to the cheek as she added, "Now, be a good boy, prove that you really are the smartest human here! I knew you were the second I saw you, and you'd better not prove me wrong." She added, kissing him one final time, she shifted to dragon, making the elven girl scream. Rolling her eyes, she picked the girl up, moving her over to the bed and setting her down gently. Mostly 'cause she had no where else soft to deposit the girl. Even so, the elf seemed to shrink down, cowering and whimpering and, as soon as free, darting as far away from the cursed bed as possible. Tanis just rolled her eyes again, then settled back to await her brother.

Christopher glared at her, waiting for a response that he was sure would be negative. Just as he was trying to step in front of the girl, not wanting her to suffer for his outburst, Tanis surprised him. Well, surprised is not exactly the right word. Shocked, astounded, stupefied, confused; those words might have been more accurate. ‘I’m right?’ he thought, ‘What in the world and heavens? I just insulted her entire kin, and she agrees with me?’ He was slowly beginning to realize that while Tanis had her faults, while she was arrogant, condescending, patronizing, and at times, downright rude, she was nothing like the rest of her kin. In his confusion, he just sort of stood there as she hugged him, looking at her as if she had lost her senses, and just raised his eyebrows and sighe as she slapped him.

Though he began to smile as she told him her plan, the expression faded quite quickly at the idea of acting lustful towards the girl. First of all, he had no idea how to accomplish this, short of the distasteful antics he had seen with his dear brother Victor. Secondly, how could he do this to this tormented girl, even to save her life? Still, it was a better plan than the one he did not have, so he nodded, listening intently to Tanis’s speech. He needed to understand every detail before he went into this, and her explanation of dragon social structure was actually rather fascinating.

As reluctant as he was, he was about to ask Tanis how he was supposed to accomplish this act, but just then he heard rather large footsteps in the direction of the cave entrance. So for once, he held his tongue, trying to remember the things Victor did when he was “lusting after” women. Shuddering at the thought, he walked over to where the elven girl was hiding and whispered to her.

“I apologize deeply for what I am about to do. Please know that I do not wish to seduce or even frighten you in any way. I only wish to help you escape this cruel master,” Christopher whispered to her as she shied away, wondering how he was to accomplish this task.

The elven girl shivered, shrinking away from him, but she nodded, terrified eyes holding just a slight touch of trust. She wasn't sure how well she could trust him, but she would try. After all, though he had scared her, he really hadn't done anything to hurt her, and he'd stood up for her. So....she supposed she could trust him. However, she never got the chance to say so for, at that second, she realized her master was in the room. Yelping, she leaped to her feet, darting off to get him something to eat. She could tell he was glaring at her, since she was free, but there wasn't a lot she could do about it. Tanis had freed her, it hadn't been her choice.

Limping obviously, she had been slightly this whole time, but with the constant, fast use of her bloody, iron-burned leg, her lip was getting worse and worse and her leg in more and more pain. But she didn't stop, she'd been abused many times for doing just that. She couldn't risk it now. Instead, she simply dragged a large chunk of meat, trying not to get sick over it, and crying a little as she brought it over. It was, actually, some of the meat from her kin, and it killed her to feed it to the dragon, but there was nothing she could do. She'd managed to collect all the hearts of those the dragon had brought back as a meal, but she couldn't bury them, instead burning them and whispering prayers, but it still hurt her to feed them to him and not give them a proper memorial.

Shivering as she lay out the body, this one had been her brother's, she looked away as the dragon grabbed the elf's torso. "More. I never got anything to eat today." He growled as he popped it into his mouth, toasting it as he chewed. Seconds later he had grabbed his slave, who had been limping off as fast as she could. "Too slow girl." He snarled, holding her up near his mouth, flames licking about his lips. "Maybe I'll munch on you." He growled, grabbing her wrist, claws digging in, and holding her arm out towards him as the girl cried out and struggled.

"Brother! Stop it!" Tanis snapped, standing up and looking more then a little annoyed. Realizing she had just done something she shouldn't, she quickly added, "My human is interested in your princess. I would prefer she not be harmed."

"Fine, I won't take off her arm." He muttered. "But I will have a finger!" He suddenly cried as he saw his princess look relieved. Teeth clicked together and the girl screamed in pain as she lost her little finger, her right arm being burnt and roasted at the same time as she lost the finger. Swallowing the missing morsel, he tossed the girl aside, not caring that she slammed into the wall. Obviously, though, this had happened before, since right where he'd thrown her was a huge, thick patch of moss, one that protected her from harm, making her two landings ones that didn't smash her bones. But they still hurt.

Moaning softly in pain, she got up, dragging her battered body off to fetch more of her kinfolk for her dragon to feast on.

"That wasn't very nice, brother." Tanis said, almost as if she didn't care. "You realize she's not worth as much any more. Now, as I said, my prince has decided he fancies your princess as his mate. I would be interested in trading for her. Though, considering how abused she is, and that you seem to have gotten her pregnant, it seems more as if I would be taking her off your hands. In fact, I might even say that you should be paying me to take her. What with how she's not got a maimed hand. And it was her right too! You know most of those little creatures favor that side! You should be happy I'll still take her." She said with a roll of her eyes.

Taking a sip of the beverage she'd been given, she made a face, then tossed it aside. "Oh, and that tastes disgusting! I am getting nothing by taking this princess from you!" She cried, looking as disgusted as she claimed the drink tasted. Standing up, she had been curled up like a cat before, she simply grabbed Christopher, mostly because she was expecting him to say or do something she couldn't trust. "You're lucky, brother, that I'm so willing to actually take the princess. Good luck with your next, I do honor your brave attempts to find one. And thank you, for the offer of this one. I shall be going now, I do hope she doesn't displease me too much, even if she is broken. Good day." She said as she caught up his princess, now hers, and put both the 'little ones' on her back, waking for the door as she went, ignoring that the bloody body part the elven woman had been carying had bounced off her shoulder, leaving a mark much like the one on the woman's burnt arm and torn up dress, a deep rust color that had a smell that sickened the young woman, who looked terrified as she road along on top of Tanis, who had just launced herself into the air, praying her brother didn't follow.

The dragon could not believe his sister. How dare she just take his prized slave in such a way?! It was despicable. He had treated his slave with all the respect he was required to, and she dared steal her from him? His eyes flashed with the indignity of it, murder playing across the bright purple irises. Smoke spewing from his nostrils as he seethed, his gigantic dragon body, wings fully spread, blazed into the air.
“Tanis! I am going to kill you for this dishonor!!” he screamed as he gained on her. He knew it was stupid to try blowing fire, however, seeing as it would not harm her and would only harm the two little slaves. No, he would rather have much more fun killing those two with his bare claws, watching them suffer for his sister’s crimes. She sped up, but his anger pushed him on and slowly but surely, he gained on her. Then she dived into the forest, maneuvering between trees at ridiculous speeds. But still he kept on, even when she shot back into the sky. He was just about to grab the little servants from her when they finally reached her cave. Tanis landed quickly and led the two in, and he followed.
“How dare you! You have no right to simply steal my property. It would not take much for me to gain enough power over you to take both of these little slaves, you know that. But, you know…” he paused here, thinking as his mood changed ever so slightly. “I think we can work this out. After all, I always love some entertainment. I shall make a bet with you. We will have a competition between these two little inferiors, and if mine wins, I keep both of them. If yours wins, you keep them. That makes it easy. Fair enough?” he asked.
Meanwhile, Christopher sort of just watched in awe at this strange dynamic, starting from when Tanis had managed to just fly away with them. He still felt rather queasy from their wild ride, and he could not believe the Tanis’ brother would propose something like this. Were they really all just there for their masters’ entertainment? How demeaning, and yet, at least it was possible. All they had to do is rig everything so that he would win, easy enough. The entire thing was absurd, first being captured, and now this madness. But he had to admit, it was just as exciting as his books, and he had been bored out of his mind with castle intrigue. This was still intrigue, but at least he could fight for something, at least he could do some good here. In some ways, he felt less like a prisoner with Tanis than he had in his own “home.” Though that thought, wordlessly, had been growing in his mind since the night before, it had just taken full fruition. The realization was both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time, terrifying because he had no clue if he was going mad, and exhilarating because he could have a real life here, not the veneers of court.
