Default American Economic Situation

This is a serious discussion.

Economy in the USA is going downhill, and a concern to all who live there. I know most of you are probably aware of it, and I would like to hear your opinions on what should be done, or if you think it will be fixed. I believe the inflation tax should be cut, it would give people more money to spend, to get in the system; Sure it wouldn't fix everything and more, but at this point I don't think there is anything that could do that. The chinese stopped helping us, they declared there would be no more money transfer to America yesterday; Something may be going on there, but thats for another thread. If the elcetion weren't so close, things might be going more smoothly, but with the election, everyone is worried. Something needs to be done, and needs to be done now, or we might end up in another depression. Actually, I heard someone say we are, not quite as devastating as the first, not at all, but it's on it's way. What do you think?

We are actually set up so that another Depression would be near impossible to hit even from our current situation.

As for what should be done is that we should not give giant corporations or the rich money, instead we should take the money and use it to help make more jobs and tax breaks for the poor and middle class. We should also increase taxes on the rich and make it harder to get on welfare.

On an interesting note there is some speculation that China is going to buy AIG and Lehman Brothers.

Intresting. I see your point, could you explain how it would be impossible to have another depression though? I agree about making jobs for poor an dmiddle class, almost no one can these days. Thats part of the problem, I believe...

China is going to buy Lehman brothers and AIG? I didn't know that. On a slightly unrelated note, china has been slipping up on it's production, lead levels have been found to be through the roof in some of their clothes and toys, I wonder wahts happening there?

Safeguards are in place to stop it. one of them which is currently be discussed is giving money to large companies that if they filed for bankruptcy it would gravly hurt the economy. other methods which can be used are; freezing the stock marke4t, selling all foreign investments owned by the federal government, and nationalizing large companies.

Well if they have things to stop it, and keep the american system healthy, why haven't any been used? Well, atleast any that had a major effect. Also, thanks for contributing to this conversation Omega.

The reason they have not been used is because we are in a recession and nowhere near a depression. There are still plenty of jobs out there if people are willing to look. Most people currently on welfare are 2nd or 3rd generation welfare recipients.

I see. So, we are fine? Even though are econmic system is damaged, I could see it becoming worse, but I can also picture it getting better too, now. Thanks for your insight.

We are not exactly fine. We are in a recession which is very bad. it is not however terrible and if we can get a leader like Bill Clinton back in office a bounce back is quite easy.

I never really liked bill clinton, I always felt he did more bad than good, I'll just go ahead and tell you. I believe a good leader is neccesary, but the question is: Is Barack Obama or John Mccain good enough to do the job?

I think Barack would make a good leader on foreign policy and many domestic policies but I am not sure if either leader will be good economically. I will give better odds to Barack on helping America more economically because he has had to work his way up and earn everything he has so he understands the plight of the working class currently.

Also, besides the Lewinsky Scandal what did Bill Clinton do wrong?
