It was a humid wet morning and Dr. Schaffer had just pulled into his parking place at Rheas Labs. Built into the side of a mountain, Rheas Labs was the ideal place to do scientific research.
Even though the weather was a little dreary, there was a bounce in Dr. Schaffer's step as he walked to the entrance. Today was the day. The day the whole team had waited for. He glanced at his watch, 3:30 am. That gave him exactly three and a half hours to document the results of the Chromatic Virus before his conference call with the military liaison. He was positive it would work. He swiped his key card and the doors opened. He walked to the elevators nodding at the few employees that were there and saying their ritual good mornings. He hit the up button and whistled while he waited for it to arrive. "Ding" The elevator doors opened and he hit the number 4 with his index finger. Shortly the doors opened then he turned right and walked to the end of the hallway where he swiped his card again. The doors opened and to his surprise, his team was already at their desks. "Good morning everyone," he bellowed. Dr. Schaffer and his team entered the research area and flipped on the lights. Both monkeys were lying in their cages not moving. They looked at one another not knowing if it had worked or not. The virus was suppose to calm the subject and take away any violent tendencies but the monkeys were too still and they didn't look good. Their breathing was becoming unstable. "Get them out of there stat and initiate a code red," yelled Dr. Schaffer. The team split into small groups, each working on a monkey. They were taking their pulse, blood pressure, checking the dilating of their eyes, and hooking them up to machines. Both monkeys flat lined and Dr. Schaffer's heart sank. Damn it! he thought. That was the same thing that happened last time. He thought they had improved the Chromatic Virus but apparently not. The team began to unhook the animals, their heads held low and their hearts heavy. All of the sudden almost simultaneously the monkeys' eyes popped open and they lunged at any person in their path. Feeding on them. Dr. Schaffer got as far as the elevator before one of them bit him. She grabbed a post-it note off a nearby desk and wrote her name on it. One time she forgot to put her name on her lunch and Fred ate it. “No name, fair game,” he belted out like the idiot he is. After that she made sure she had her name on everything. She then went to the back room to get a cart of books to shelve. She was almost done with the last book on it when she heard somebody scream. She ran to see what the commotion was and nearly tripped over some kid sitting in the middle of the aisle reading. There was a man that had fainted, it looked like, in front of the computer terminals. “Call 911,” some lady bending over him shouted. The closer Crystal got the more disturbing the scene became. The man looked really sick. Huge bags under his eyes and his skin wasn’t quite the right color. “He’s not breathing!” the lady yelled. Fred came running over in his high-water jeans and ratty old tennis shoes and told the lady the ambulance was on their way. By this time there was a good ten to fifteen people standing around the body as the lady performed CPR. Crystal pulled a computer chair around and sat down. She felt like she herself might faint. That’s when the guy’s eyes flew open and he bit that lady’s neck. Crystal felt the vomit in her throat but managed to choke it down. She doesn’t remember getting up and running but before she knew it she was on the second floor of the library.

Maple was sitting in a desk on the library's second floor, studying for up coming exams when what looked like a younger version of the librarian ran up there in a major hurry, following the screaming of panicking people.
Maple stood up with a start, looking around to see if any part of the commotion made its way upstarts. The panicked look on the librarian tech's face was enough. "What the hell is going on down there?" she asked in a worried tone. |

Crystal was jolted back to reality when someone spoke to her. She shook her head as to shake out all the cobb-webbs. "Uh, uh, uh," she stammered and then took a deep breath. "A guy died and then came back and bit a lady's neck," she rattled. It sounded totally insane and the other girl probably thought she was off her rocker. She even thought she was losing it. Was she sick and just didn't know it.
The top floor of the library was just a half of a floor and had a railing along one side where people from the bottom could see up top and vise versa. Crystal walked to the edge and looked over the railing to see what was happening downstairs.

Cody pushed his way through the crowd, wearing baggy dark wash jeans and a simple black graphic t that had some sort of blue and fading to green design of new york or some city on it, a white long sleeved shirt under it.
His dog tags were around his neck, clinking as he ran to the scene. He saw the man on top of the woman, seeming to be...eating her. Even with his strong stomach, he was starting to taste his stomach acid at the back of his throat, but swallowed and started yelling at the man, grabbing him by the shirt and hearing a deathly scream coming from him as he did so...nothing human. The stench of his breath was foul and blood covered his raw lips which could not hide his awkwardly shaped teeth, as though he had grown up eating nothing but bones. The man screamed again and kicked Cody in the legs, causing Cody's immediate reaction of throwing him into one of the computers. "Somebody call 911!" he yelled. But when he looked back...everyone was gone, rushing towards the front door or already out of it. He saw the man starting to regain himself and turned, taking off towards the nearest flight of stairs he could find, up to the second floor. |

Crystal thought for sure any minute she would wake up from this horrible dream but then some man yelled to call 911 again and headed for the stairs. She looked at the other two who were standing with her. "In here," she said and motioned for them to follow her along with the guy coming up the stairs.
She ran to the back of the floor where there was an inconspicuous door that read "employees only" and opened it. It was a good sized room with several cubicles. She jerked the phone up from the first cubicle and her face grimaced. "It's dead," she whispered.

"The phone is dead!" Maple screamed in a panic, "How the god dam hell could the phone be dead?!"
Maple looked around. She looked down the banister, peeking at the first floor of the library. There was a man that resembled a zombie from a Resident Evil game walking up the steps. She ran from the banister towards the door opened by the library employee. "I believe you cockamamie story," she replied in a panic, now quieter so the zombie thing wouldn't hear her. |

Sarah looked down at what was happening, "Oh my god", it was so horrible the man who looked possessed trying to eat the woman, it was like something out of a really bad horror movie. She saw the to woman go to call 911, she wasn't sure what 911 was going to be able to do, or if they would believe them, but it was something, and they had to do something.
