In an alternative universe, the world has stopped turning. The planet has been motionless for nearly twenty years.

The light side of the Earth is overpopulated and completely full. A tall, heavily patrolled wall has been built along the border where light meets dark, preventing the poorer members of society from entering.

Some of those left on the dark side have changed.

These Darklings, as they call themselves, have adapted to the eternal darkness in which they live, evolving into creatures of shadow from our own mythology. They have learnt to survive on other nocturnal animals and strange plants that can grow in the moonlight.

There is much tension between the Darklings and the Patrollers of the Wall.

Perhaps it is these Darklings who can find a way to start the world turning again...

Crouching low behind a tree, Dathal watched the uniformed men patrolling along the top of the Wall. The wind ruffled his shaggy black hair that came to his shoulders. He was watching for a pattern, waiting for an opportunity. So far, he had found none. He could smell hundreds of men on and behind the Wall, a great edifice of grey rock, as tall as four men.

“This is useless,” he muttered to himself. Yet still he watched, keen yellow eyes piercing the continual darkness around him.

Pandrax stared at the top of the Wall. "Today is the day I try again," he said to himself. He climbed up the wall with amazing speed and jumped onto the top. He slashed two guards' throats as he came over. He jumped into the other side, onto a roof. Already, hundreds of guards were running after him, shooting their arrows and crossbow quarrels.

Alucard and Walter grinned as they started playing a game from the highest part of the wall "So, my friend Alucard, which gaurd do you pick?" Asked Walter, tapping at the side of the wall. Alucard laughed "I pick the one with the blonde crew cut who looks like a girl" Answered Alucard, Walter staring at him wierdly "Your sick, why do you always choose the one's that look like girls?" Alacurd sighed "Because when they have long hair and there wearing baggy clothes, you think thier girls, so you go for them!" He answered, then picked up a rock and threw it at the man's head at a presice angle with pure stealth, so then it landed in the middle of his head and split him in the middle "HA HA WALTER! BEAT THAT!" Shouted Alucard, Walter shaking his head, but laughing.

Krissy wandered the dark paths near the wall in her Human form. She could see fairly well, as could most of the Darklings. She hummed quietly to herself, hoping nobody would hear, she liked to be by herself most times. "I wonder how many people try to get over the wall each day." She whispered, leaning agaisnt a tree trunk and watching the wall. She heard shouting from two men on her side of the wall not far off, and fighting from the lighter side of the wall. But she daren't go near.

The dark side was chilly tonight, today........at this moment. Auria sat with her legs crossed leaning against a blacked tree. The tree had been severely burnt after years of small battles along the wall to the light side. Auria kept her violet eyes turned downward as she hummed a sweet song. It was a quiet but powerful tune. Up on the wall a patrol heard the song. He didn't even realize what he had heard before he started walking towards the dark side edge of the wall. There was fighting further down the wall that he was supposed to help with but he couldn't seem to pull himself away from that song. He threw a rope over the edge of the wall and began to climb down to the ground. "Demetri! What are you doing!" yelled another patrol to the man but he heard none of it. The second Patrol tried pulling the rope up but Demetri simply jumped off the rope and landed on the ground with a loud thump. He turned slowly toward the direction of the sweet music. He walked casually but with purpose. Finally he was standing directly in front of Auria, she did not look up. The patrol dropped to his knees before her and sighed. Slowly, he reached to his weapon and pulled it out of it's sheath. He laid the sword in front of Auria as if it were an offering. He sighed again and removed his helmet and laid it next to the sword. His facial expression was one of pure happiness. He gazed at Auria with nothing less then total adoration. Quietly the man crawled closer to Auria and kissed her gently on the top of her head. She never looked up or stopped singing. The man whispered gently, "I love you." Auria stopped singing and smiled softly, but still didn't look up. She coyly replied, "I know." and without pause she raised her head and bit into the man's neck. The man let out a final sigh as Auria drained him and dropped his limp body to the side. The animals would come pick at it the rest of the day and soon there would be nothing left but a small indent on the ground. Auria stood and held up what she had been staring at the entire time. A small woven rope, no more than a few inches long was hanging from between her thin fingers. She had been weaving it as she sang. She turned around and hung the rope across a low branch on the tree. She looked up and saw the tens of other small ropes hanging from various other branches on the same tree. She smiled and gave the tree a loving pat. Auria pulled the hood of her cloak over her head and began to stroll down the path next to the wall towards the fighting. Today, is a god day. she thought to herself.

Krissy stopped humming and looked down at the floor, many little creatures scurried past calling to eachother in their own language of squeals and squeaks. She often wondered what they said, she wondered too many things, that could her into trouble alot. But she didnt care, she liked an adventure. Krissy smiled slightly to one side, turned around and started walking closer to the wall. Due to her clothing she was hard to see in the darkness, she liked that though. Soon she spotted the two men she had heard before, and not far from them, another Darkling walked along the path closest to the wall. Krissy knew that many Darklings hung around the wall watching the Patrollers but she rarely noticed them much because she kept to herself. Though her curious mind got the better of her this time and she stood, staring at them. Not noticing the small peices of rope dangling about her head on branches of the tree she was now standing beside.

Alucard gave a pebble to Walter "Lets see how good you are" He said, then Walter dropped the pebble towards one of the strongest men. He dropped it as if he where letting go of something. The pebble twisted and went towards another gaurd, then straight to the original one, cutting it's head off it's neck "Toldja I was better" He said calmly, smiling.

Dathal pricked up his ears, hearing the familiar sounds of death from the many skirmishes that still occured even after two decades of the Wall's existence. He smelt something nearby; something that kept changing its smell, as though it couldn't decide what it was.

Crouching lower, he sneaked through the sparsely grown trees, following his nose. He caught sight of a girl, also watching the wall. That shifting smell came from her direction.
