Default The War Rages on... IC

Heres the ooc thread. OOC THREAD
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The moon shined brightly over the darkned clouds. The bright lights shined of cars and neon signs down below. Many people lived in this city. Much crime and evil were still at large here. On top of an abadon cathedrial, the woman with pale skin and dark hair sat above on top of the cross. Her legs daggling over the edge. Two large wings as dark as midnight curled were coming from her back. A low sigh left her lips as she could hear the loud noise that come from the mortals below. She twirled a string of electricity around her index finger. As she stood, she stopped twirling. She dove off the high cross, falling. Her wings opened widely, letting the breeze curl up under her feathers. She flew higher, gazing down below.

Meanwhile, inside the abandoned cathedral a man was playing the organ. When the place closed down, nobody ever bothed to take it away. The man's playing could be heard from miles and miles. Despite the fact that his skill with the instrument was supreme, there was nobody else in the cathedral. And that was just the way Balthasar was used to. Disguised as an everyday-looking businessman, the man continued to play.

Serafia sighed as she trudged up the hill, a basket in hand. The cathedral stood a good distance from anything else, all alone at the top of a large hill, and without an actual road for access. Serafia paused in her trudge up the winding path by a small patch of foxgloves. She knelt down and murmured softly to them, stroking their stems and smelling their pale blooms. She liked foxgloves, and foxgloves liked her. As she stood to walk away, the plants grew visibly longer, reaching out and bending, trying to stay as close to Serafia as possible. Serafia laughed quietly and said, "Look, I have to go. I'll be back in a bit, I promise. Just stay here till then." The foxgloves relented, slowly bending back into an upright position. Serafia laughed again, and resumed her walk to the top of the hill.

She nearly stopped at a tangle of nightshades, but a particuarly resonant chord echoed through the air, reminding her why she was walking up a hill in the middle of the night. She sighed and continued on her way.

When she reached the old doors of the cathedral, Serafia quietly slipped inside. The sound of her shoes on the floor was lost in the wall of sound from the organ. She quickly made her way across the empty cathedral and up the stairs to the balcony. Serafia moved as fast as possible without sprinting; the cathedral was getting to her. Even deserted, it was still holy ground, and the building, the air, even the ivy growing on the cathedral walls exuded disgust at her presence.

Serafia nearly tripped on the last step in her haste, and scampered over to the organ. She tapped Balthasar on the shoulder, and said, slightly louder than normal conversational volume in order to be heard, "The neighborhood watch sent me to placate you with food." She held up the basket for emphasis. "I think they want to sleep. It's ten at night. You should be asleep yourself."

Balthasar stopped playing the organ and turned his head around when Serafia tapped him on the shoulder. "Ah, yes. I lose track of the time easily sometimes. Not a big deal, though." He stood up and pushed the bench he was sitting on closer to the organ, saying "Thanks for the food. It's good to see you. Where have you been hiding yourself?" Balthasar took a banana out of the basket, peeling it and eating it as he listened to Serafia's response.

Serafia giggled, despite the oppressive and hateful air around her. "Well, last week I had to go visit my aunt." A lie. The demons in Upper Management had required her to give a man in Venice a serious case of nausea, preventing him from attending a conference on cancer treatment, where he could have done some good. "Lately, I've been hiding in my shop. It's Valentine's Day in three weeks. People are already buying roses by the cartload. And I still have a bunch of those hideous Poinsettias leftover from Christmas." Serafia disliked poinsettias. So many people thought the flowers were poisonous, which they weren't. Serafia objected to plants being raised to the status of poisonous if they actually weren't. She continued, "Anyway, I digress. What are you doing in an abandoned church at this hour? Come on, you can tell me on the way home," she said as she walked over to the stairs, motioning for Balthasar to follow.

Derrick sat in the woods with his other three companions, his gun laying across his legs. The log he sat on didn't seem to sturdy and he felt as if it was going to break at any moment. The fire crackled as they sat there, the fire blazing up and down every now and again. He and his comrades were listening to the organ playing in the distance, and when it stopped, they looked at each other; it had been going on so long, who would think it'd stop suddenly? "I still think its no big deal," Armand said, looking at the other three. "I'm telling you, that thing aint normal," Adulif replied, eating his MRE. They were on a training exercise, surviving in the woods for a week. It was their second the last day. "Lets send Derrick and John out there, then," Armand remarked, looking at the two. "I'm down," John said, grabbing his XM-8 Carbine and loading it. "You aren't gonna need that, mate," Derrick said, but he didn't believe it. Instead, he loaded his M60 up and finished his meal quickly, pulling on his boonie hat. "We'll be right back, ladies," he said, walking off into the dark night. He got to the forest edge and shouldered his light machine gun nervously. He and John crept slowly away from the forest, towards the path. "Hey man, was that cathedral there before?" Derrick asked, looking at it in the distance. "What cathedral, man?" John responded, looking confused. Derrick sighed under his balaclava. "The one right there," he replied to John, pointing at it. John just shook his head. "Man, your crazy, there aint no cathedral," he said, laughing. Derrick sighed again. "Go back to Armand and Adulif, I'll be back in a few," Derrick said, continuing forward as John walked back towards their camp, still thinking Derrick was crazy. Derrick himself thought he was crazy when he saw two figures walking out of the door.

Balthasar followed Seraphia, walking with her outside the church while finishing the banana. "Well, I was just out for a walk and I happened to see this place. I went inside and just decided to play. Nothing better to do." That wasn't entirely true. With his shapeshifting abilities, Balthasar could've transformed into anyone he wanted. This opens up a lot of possibilities. However, the man just felt like playing an organ in an abandoned church. "I'm surprised nobody's taken the thing yet," he said, referring to the organ.

Serafia shrugged. "Probably didn't want to have to drag the thing down the hill. No, that organ is staying there until someone decides to make a paved road up here." She reached into the basket and fished out a carrot, and gnawed on it, before continuing, "That still leaves the question of why you were wandering around in the middle of the night."

"I'll say it again, nothing better to do. Couldn't get any sleep, so I decided to take a walk. That's all there is to it," Balthasar said as he stuck his hand into the basket and grabbed a grape, eating it. After he swallowed it, he said "It's not like anything bad's gonna happen anyway."

Serafia mock-gasped. "But you could trip and fall! Or a wolf could attack you! Or, you know, a demon or something." She giggled. Seeing that they were nearing the foxgloves from earlier, Serafia hurried over and knelt down by them again. She said, "See? I'm back. Told you. Oh, you are beautiful, girls." Serafia referred to all flowers as female. "Too bad most people don't like you. Keep on growing, girls. There's a wonderful patch of foxgloves upwind of here. Maybe the bees will introduce you to them." Serafia smiled. She liked flowers. She turned, saw Blathasar, and apologized. "Sorry. Got a little carried away." Serafia stood, brushed off her skirt, and walked back to where she had abandoned Balthasar for flowers.
