Rökkr cocked her head. "I realize what happened now." She observed very wryly, intense black eyes glinting. "My troops shot you down, didn't they? I commanded them to bring down anything suspicious."

This earned an immense eyeroll from Odette, who had drifted over to listen. She did not speak.
"We are under orders from Chrysaetos to destroy the demons of Leviathan in the Northern Atlantic, or to be more specific, in this abyss. It's where all of them live - and we have no idea how many there are."

"And you have all of twenty angels to help you?" Barakiel asked. "It doesn't seem like a large enough group if all of the demons are similar to that shark."

This made Rökkr chuckle a little to herself. By this time, Lucy was quite close, and she gave Rökkr a casual wave, which the necromancer angel returned.
"It wouldn't be if we were fighting them on equal terms. The angels under my command have developed new... breakthroughs in power, shall we say. Not only are they capable of temporarily increasing power output by several times their original, they can also combine their abilities."

"Why does Chrysaetos want this area cleared, though?" Taiga was more practical about this. "It won't do us any good when the hellgate opens.."

"Because the abyssal area has several things that may be of great historical value to us. It is rumored that some of the temples of Atlantis may have survived the Fall, while most of it disappeared under the earth's crust."

This made all of the angels pay very close attention to what she was saying. Apparently, Odette noted, it was as much of an obsession to angels as it was to humans - if not more so.
She immediately burned to know why.

Atlantis? I thought that the last remains of that were washed away by the ocean?

What's the big deal?

Atlantis held a lot of angelic knowledge, it was one of the only cities in human history that ever was close to angels. I studied them for a long time, and when they disappeared suddenly I spent a lot of time looking for them. A lot of their knowledge was helpful for that little theory that I gave you. They had the same theory I did, and were even researching ways to obtain the state, even ways to achieve the necessary energetic state necessary to create the change.

Oh....well then why look for it now?

Some of their knowledge would be of great use to us now, but then again they maybe looking for something specific.

Rökkr was observing the Azraels keenly. In many ways, Odette thought, the necromancer angel was similar to Taiga. Except Rökkr seemed to really enjoy her line of work - perhaps too much.

"Are you interested in joining us? We can generate facilities to store the human's baggage in, so there is no need to worry about that.
Furthermore, the hellgate of Cairo is far from opening. The Riders are busy elsewhere, and no armies are mobilizing."

"We should at least give the information to the angel general for Cairo." Taiga replied, voice sharp. "Otherwise I would say yes; if my master wants this done, then I must stay to help.

Rökkr's perpetual smile widened. "Good. I always welcome the assistance of individual angels with.. interesting powers. They often end up being new keys to unlocking a new power combination."

Odette winced as several of the icy barbs that were Taiga's swearwords stung at her mind.
"I did not say so yet, Colonel. I said I must speak to the general of the angelic armies in Cairo."

"You are speaking to her now. When this expedition is over, we leave for the deserts for battle. But not yet.
Not yet."

Azrael raised an eyebrow and snorted in humor, Well Taiga...I guess that makes your communications trip a whole lot smoother doesn't it?

They turned away, ignoring the fact that they had just taken a jab at her and glanced around. All they saw were miles and miles of ocean. They sighed, and they didn't really like the ocean all that much, sure it was comforting to listen too but being out in the middle of nowhere.

So what's the plan?

"First we must create a safe location to keep the human's possessions in. I would skip this part to save time, but then you'd all be pissed at me." More amused than anything, Odette raised an eyebrow at Rökkr.

"Something to do with metal, air, and glass should be fine. And Lucy can anchor it in place so can be found at the same coordinates when we come back up. After that, we have several of my angels create pressure-resistant bubbles to submerge in. The fact that we have several others who can also produce oxygen is a boon as well, if we're taking the humans."

"Count me in!" Jessica announced boldly to the angels. Terriss indicated her with a proud motion to one of Rökkr's officers, and it was clear she was saying something boastful.
Odette looked over and met Taiga's eyes. They both understood without the slightest communication that Odette would not be outdone by Jessica - although when Taiga gave Odette's mind a brief touch later, she discovered that part of the human girl's drive was to be with both 'her' angel, and Azrael.

"We have several for defences. Terriss, you can help with stabilizing the bubbles against pressure.

"And everyone, remember this: you may be angels, but the creatures that live in those seas are more powerful than any of us. You may be creatures of light, sent by God, but you will still die should you be exposed to the pressure of miles of water pressing on you.
The powers laid on the ruins will be those of curses; ones of such horror that we have no names for them.
Bear this in mind next time you want to perform heroics."

Rökkr's voice had become commanding and harsh by the end of her speech. Authority was written into her very being, giving no doubt that she was to be believed and relied on.
Awed, Odette and Jessica glanced at one another. "Incredible. I wish more humans were like that." Jessica whispered.

"And finally, let us have an entertaining trip with many killings of demons, and excavation of ancient loot." Rökkr had returned to her usual light self, and the contrast between the two was so great that it was almost amusing.

Oh and she has jokes too

Azrael rolled their eyes, only becoming aware of the fact that they were sort of rolling their eyes at themselves. They shook themselves and resumed paying attention to what was happening. They nodded in agreement, the ancient ruins would be chock full of monsters and magic that they may not be able to account for. Azrael was more than prepared for what was coming, making a mental note for both sides of the hybridized being, that heroics would have to avoided as was said earlier.

They glanced over at Odette and winked eagerly, Alrighty then, let's get this party goin'

Right...you're practically pissing yourself

I am not..I just find the possibility of finding the ruins of ancient Atlantis fascinating, imagine the things that we could find there. Enough knowledge to add a whole new section to the Akashic Records.

Ho' boy...

The 'holding chamber' for the equipment and belongings was created so quickly that it seemed to be there almost immediately. Each angel carrying a bag of possessions walked over and simply pushed it in a small side-door. This was summarily sealed over.
Finally, Lucy anchored it quite invisibly to the coordinates.

"Right then." Rökkr gave her team a series of commands that was so complex, Taiga had to strain to understand it - and she was the one most familiar with such power-mixing of angels.
There were certain expressions of combining mere fragments of certain power aspects to a full 'work', as well as fuller 'sample sheets' given by an angel with a specialty beneficial to working underwater.
Here, Taiga realized that part of the communications were done by Terriss - who was busily assembling several aspects of her power over heat and pressure into a less distinctive form that could be utilized by the rest. Lucy joined as well, adding powers to help create a minor atmosphere inside the 'bubbles'.
Mercurial and Barakiel jumped in here; Mercurial testing the oxygen regenerative effect before adding another template concerning the inhale and exhale capacities of humans, as well as percentage of oxygen before and after inhalation.
Barakiel merely added a shield to the outside, beyond the protective dome. After one of Rökkr's workers was done with it, it became intangible and only would begin to react and throw off light when triggered.

Wow, this is amazing... After the final angel had moved away from the submersible, Odette walked over to admire the finished work.

It was not the bathysphere she had reasonably expected, nor was it several vessels. It was an entire glassy, almost invisibly-jointed length of ship. She could not distinguish any engines or means of movement.
The interior was wide enough to seat two angels (wings folded) side by side, and there were many rows of 'seats' that were actually indentations in the floor and small 'armrests' the main function of which would be to keep everyone in place. The front had several small screenlike projections that probably served as observation points from different sides of the ship.

And most remarkable of all - it was shaped like an immense deep-water fish, complete with realistic head, and fins that moved gently in the light waves. One angel raised a hand - and the fish/submersible was immediately cloaked in shadow, as the other aquatic demons would be.

Terriss had been standing slightly away from the rest the entire time, and now she looked at this creation with what seemed to be several tears in her eyes.
It's just like the ones they had once.. I never thought I would see the like of an Atlantean ship again.

Rökkr strode around the ship, examining it before she put a hand on the glassy hide. A hole immediately opened and grew large enough for any angel to step through easily.
She somehow managed to catch everyone's eye at once as she nodded. "All aboard!"

Azrael watched the event with an interested eye. The workmanship was solid from what they could see, and it definitely was going to work just fine. Reaching out and touch the ship, feeling the pliable but sturdy material that it was made from. They smiled, appreciating the workmanship with a critical eye, and hoping that like it's predecessar, it would last.

They stepped aboard, If we're attacked, how are we supposed to defend ourselves?

"That is quite simple." Rökkr inspected the outside again, running a finger over the now-dark scales.
"The material is a variety that allows angels - or other gifted types - to make their powers manifest outside it. There's a fairly complicated theory behind it, but in the interest of getting on our way, I'll say that it was also used by the Atlanteans for similar reasons.
Furthermore, the fish's shape is a close replica to several forms of water-demons we've already killed. This along with the shadow power coating it should be effective if we meet any creatures who can sense angels. The shadow blocks it out."

Odette was first inside, throwing Rökkr a snappy salute which the smiling angel returned quickly. She was followed by Jessica, and it became clear that they were actually having a casual little race over who would get to sit next to the Azraels.

Honestly.. those two.. Taiga brushed by the angels that were now clustering around the entrance. She sat a reasonable distance away from Odette and the Azraels.

Jessica was not fazed in the least. She simply latched onto the seat next to Barakiel, and began sweet-talking him in her usual amused and perhaps too forthright manner. The lightning angel just sat there with a bored look on his face, nodding and shaking his head occasionally to the comments she made.

The rest piled in. Most were seated in the back unless they had something to do with controlling the submarine, or manning destructive powers in case they were attacked.

Odette quickly realized that they were being strapped to their 'seats' in the fish by some force of gravity that an angel under Rökkr's command was using.

She peered out of her side of the fish. She could see the outside with marvelous clarity; as if she were looking into an aquarium. The brilliantly sunlit water of the 'bright zone' rose around them as the submarine submerged.

Azrael's eyes widened as they submerged underneath the waters surface. Watching the water swirl around them and then calm. Their head swivelled around, smiling like a small child as schools of colorful fish swam by, a cloud of brightly flurescent jelly fish floating by gently. Their hand went up and touched as they went deeper and a pod of dolphins swam by, chattering happily, even taking a moment to satiate their own curiousity, following the pod as it sank down.

Amazing....
