Default Eventide

The forest was silent that night. The wind and rustling of trees was all that was heard in the silence of the night. The wind. Lanara looked up from her spot against a large oak tree as she watched the darkened branches and shadowed leaves blow. It was a cold wind, for some reason. It was late spring, yet the wind blowing that night gave her chills she'd not experianced before.

Perhaps it was simply the anticipation and wait that she was under. Tonight was the night. The night when she was to meet those she'd not seen since Darsh had taken the throne. A light smile crossed her lips for a moment, her ember gold eyes watching the shadows around her. She had fond memories of all of them, to tell the truth. Even the assassin. She never did understand why people tended to scorn him. Simply because he was... well, for lack of better words.. A contract killer for her father.

She shook her head slightly, light blonde locks falling down her shoulders to her mid-back. She'd had short hair the last time anyone had seen her. And she'd been one to constantly dress in gowns and robes. Now, she looked completely different. One could tell it was still her simply by the gentleness about her features. But she no longer wore the robes and gowns of a princess. Not that night.

No. That night, she wore the silver and blue armor of Raesla, made so that it would fit a woman. It wasn't much, just a breast plate with shoulder guards and plate shields for the leggings she wore. Other than that, she wore a green leather tunic that hugged her form tightly, matching leggings on her hips held in place by a black leather belt that kept her sword at her side. Black boots covered her feet, and a silver cloak hooked to her shoulders to keep the chill off her at night.

She sighed heavily. The thick canopy of the forest blocked most of the moon light, and what little did come through let in just enough light for her to see with. Her hands on her sword hilts constantly, she waited as each hour sent the moon further into the sky until it was almost midnight. If they answered her call.. they would be there soon.

Emily pushed through the forest, pack on her back, using her staff to clear away branches and vines. The forest animals had kept her safe in this forest for a long time. She had been able to be one with nature for a long time now. Yet, her calling was always with the princess. Emily had always thought this day wouldn't come, the day were she'd have to abandon her life as a peaceful forest goer, and join the princess and yet, she knew in her heart the princess wouldn't stand for what Darsh had done to them.

Emily had gotten the call earlier in the day, while she was studying a rare flower, only seen in one part of the forest. A little birdie had told her that the Princess was meeting the banished tonight, towards the middle of the forest, near the big oak. Emily sighed, picked a specimen of the flower, and put it in her hair.

"Do you think the princess would like this flower?" She asked the bird. Then she shook her head and let out a small laugh.

"Of course....I've been in this forest for to long....but do I have the right to be involved? I've lived peacefully in the forest for a good time. I do not wish to go back to the world. The forest has provided me with everything I needed. Yes....Yes....I know she's my friend, but....No but I think th-Well then little miss....I'll go to her aid."

Emily sighed, getting up from the ground, making sure not to hurt the flower on the ground.

And now here she was, treading through the dark forest, having a fox lead her in the dark. As she neared the forest, she thanked the fox, patting it on the head. Emily bended down, and the fox licked her nose playfully, and then turned back, running towards her family once again. Emily walked into towards the oak, spotting a figure leaning against the tree.

"Traveler, have you come to this forest seeking refuge from the perils of the world?"

Emily decided to keep her distance until she knew who was leaning against the tree.

A howl pierced the silence of the night, a calling to it's pack presumably. But were there wolves in the forest? Of course, that excluding the black wolfhound who slowly trotted off towards the meeting-point. The call was not to a pack, and if the druid or a form beastmaster heard, the call was for the wolf's master. It was too dark to be natural, the tree canopy masking everything and anything. To Farrow and Fang, however, this proved little challenge.

Since being banished and thrown away from his friends Farrow had taken to the forest, unknowing that the druid had done the same. From his hut in the woods he'd become somewhat of a woodsman, using his marksmanship to hunt for what he needed. Occasionally he'd have snuck back into the villages at night to find out something... Anything about the prince and princess but to no avail. People simply didn't know or were too afraid to speak. Farrow had simply, vanished after a while, hiding in the forest hut and living in solitude. The note he'd received from what seemed to be the only villager that he could trust, was music to his ears. No, not the music he'd often play to himself, but a sweet taste of meaning. He was wanted, requested to meet Princess Orfang.

The cold wind blew his hair into it's own little dance, the blond streak sticking out in the black forest. He pulled the mossy-green hood of his cloak up, then trampled over fallen trees and over trickling streams on his way to the meet. He'd caught up with Fang for a little more than two minutes before the wolf-hound stopped, snarling very quietly. Farrow was near the meet, pretty much next to it, but there was one.. two people in the area that he could see. One by the tree who he assumed was Lanara, another who's voice he recognised... from somewhere.

Setting the wolfhound to sit by the side of a shadowed tree, Farrow climbed the rock feature beside the meet and waiting, listening. After-all this could be a trap, and the letter may have been forged. He hated to admit it, but that might not be her down there... He had to hear her voice.

That letter had given him that hope, that gift to get back at the king for what he had done to him and his comrades. Who would of known that the Princess Lanara Orfang wasn't banished herself from the kingdom. Darsh hadn't given anyone of the King's friends mercy, knew that everyone that was close to him got banished with him. This couldn't be tolerated anymore, not after all these years. He had to keep himself hidden in the woods, since he wasn't the type to start a new life with other beings. He only understood and went well with some people, which included King Orfang, his son and daughter, the druid and the mage. There was other that he also went along with, but he couldn't remember them properly, but knew when he would see them, that he would remember everything. All to say, he was glad to hear about having peace back with their help.

The forest was oddly cold that night, sent shivers through his spine like he hadn't felt in years. Although he still did some death contracts, those he did with the king were right, not like those nobles who wanted his friends death just to gain their money, or those merchants who wanted their other fellow merchants dead for profit. He hated doing so, but he had to do it, if he wanted to make money. Those days outside of the kingdom was harsh on him, but he lived through to finally find what he wanted: a chance for revenge.

He couldn't see the moon much, but could see some light shinning through the dense leaves. He loved it, the sight of the moon, gave him memories of when he used to do contracts for the king. All those death's were for the peace of the kingdoms and the good of the people. He stopped his light march to admire the light shinning through, his dark red eyes not letting go of the sky. He wished hings could of been different, but it was what it was, so he lived with it, whatever way he could.

After a few minutes of inner thinking, after that time to remember the god old days, he sighed heavily, a tear almost forming on his face. He knew he wouldn't have to let a single tear drop, didn't have to life this life of unworthy assassinations. He could help out for a good cause again, and that was perfect for him. He walked towards a tree, quickly climbed up to it and was now jumping from tree to tree, going to the intended area, to meet the Princess and his comrades.

Again, after about six or seven minutes, he felt heartbeats, and then weren't any heartbeats. Each being on this planet had specific beat that accorded to their own soul and will, and these two were ones he had felt before. With a smile under his red lower face mask, he dropped from his tree, making only the slightest sound. To his left, with a flower in her hand, was the druid he knew from almost the beginning of her work with the king, Emily Niestrom. and to his right was the one that had sent the letter, the Princess Lanara. Hasten wore his casual contract suit when it was time for the kill ( Just like the Pic), and it seemed that Larana wasn't dressed in her casual robes and dresses. But with his usual cold, murderous voice, didn't have any other than that one, always needed to have that voice. But then, another heartbeat, one he was familiar to but didn't remember exactly. But he knew it was one of the banished comrades of the King and Prince.

" I'm so glad to see you two, it has been years." He simply said, looking at both of them, enjoying their heartbeats like he did before. It was something od about him, he loved to feel his friends heartbeats, they felt so pure.

Lanara's hands moved instinctively to her sword hilts when the first voice had spoken. It had only been a short moment later that the eerie cry of a wolf had echoed on the cold wind and caused another chill to go down her spine. She had looked to the first voice after that, just to smile. She recognized that voice, the staff, the hair. She almost laughed in relief one moment, and nearly screamed in fright the next. She'd forgotten how strangely cold Hasten's voice sounded. Still, her hands relaxed as she moved off her tree and into a ray of light.

"It's good to see you as well, Hasten." She turned to Emily with a wide grin. "And don't tell me you don't recognize me, Ems." She teased. "We've been friends since we were kids."

Both Hasten and Emily had shown. Relief washed over her when she saw the faces.. Well.. the face and eyes, of two people she knew she could trust. Now all that was needed were the others, including Farrow. She couldn't help herself from feeling excited at that prospect. If there were any of her father's old comrades and advisors that she would rush to hug, it would be Emily, Farrow, and the General.

It was hard enough holding herself back from rushing Emily and hugging her, but she could understand the other woman's apprehension. After all. Had she been in their place, she would have been cautious herself that the whole thing was a trap.

After hearing Lanara's voice, Emily rushed towards her, hugging her tightly.

"Lanara!!! I thought we'd never see each other! I missed you so much!"

Emily took a step back, a smile beaming from her lips.

"What took you so long to contact us? I was sure you had left across the sea. Trying to escape this hell of a situation. Woops...Sorry for my language. I've been living here in the forest all this time. Among the animals and the plants. Where I truly belonged before. I...I'm just so glad to see you alive."

Tears started to roll down Emily's face, the smile still there.

"I..I'm sorry you have to see me like this."

Hasten just smiled as he saw Larana walk into the light and talk. She didn't look the same indeed, without the dresses and the robes on. That breastplate and cloak gave her e new look, a more noble warrior look, instead of that royal blood look. It was great to see that she was taking action in this cause, and the sword was something he would intently look at as she would use it. It would give him a good look of her combat skills and if she needed help in a fight. But something told him that....... what was his name? Farrow? Yes, that Farrow was going to help her anyway. Everyone would have everyone's back, knew that it's only between themselves that they could be trusted, and no one else.

With one more look into the sky, meeting with the moon, he came forward, but saw that Emily was a little quicker than he was, saw her run right at her, hugging. That short sigh came from him, and he kept walking towards the two. He usually always had to go to Ems for healing, since some assassinations don't go as planned. They weren't particularly known to each other, but they still knew each other. He came right in front of the two and laid a hand on each of their shoulders.

" Em, you don't have to be ashamed of your tears. It only shows that you are a true being, instead of being one of no emotion." He was pretty much talking about himself there, since he never really showed his real emotion, or it is usually hidden behind his mask.

"It's good to see you as well. We've been friends since we were kids."

Of all the three most delightful sounds, that was the sweetest. That was the voice of the one he wanted to see and the one who maybe... Just maybe had news of the missing prince. But other than that, they were all voices he knew and held dear. He watched from the outcrop of rocks where he was perched as the themselves seemed to be reunited. Had they too been sent notice? Was this all Lanara's work? Did that mean she'd tried to get everyone?

Even though Farrow himself was calm and patient, his companion was not. The large black wolfhound rising to it's feet as it stared across to Hasten Lesphares. The guy looked dangerous to the wolf, and it snarled to himself as it flashed his yellow reflective eyes at them through the night. Catching his companion's discomfort and in truth, fearing for the animal's safety, (How could the three possibly know he had a pet poodle?) Farrow brought himself to rolling gracefully off the rocks, spinning down to the ground with a light thump of his feet as he landed.

By this time the wolf had already stepped towards the group, back arched and into the light, jaw slightly open and teeth snarling. It was obviously unhappy with not knowing who was in his woods, and it took Farrows sharp whistle to stop it circling. As it continued to snarl Farrow came closer and closer towards his face being visible, his hood being pulled back as he barked at the animal. "Fang!" The wolf whimpered, knowing it was in trouble, and backed down, shuffling behind Farrow's shadow as he stepped into the light.

"Sorry about the pup, he gets a little edgy with new company." He looked up to his friends, the assassin, the druid and Lanara, his smile beaming across his face as he looked straight to her, "Hello again Lanara... A long time no see, right Hasten, Emily?" It was clear who his attention was really focused on, his hand subconsciously petting the black fur belonging to a now very calm and quiet hound by his feet.

She had grunted slightly at the impact of Emily running to hug her, though she'd been unable to stop herself from laughing as she hugged the woman in return. Her arm moved to pull Hasten into a hug as well, the three of them in a sort of group hug until the snarling of the wolfhound came. She turned when she heard it, watching the wolf surprisingly calmly. She hadn't feared it despite its snarling and growling, for whatever reason.

And then she heard the voice she had longed to hear for years now. Her head shot up, a grin spreading across her lips again. Pup be damned. "Farrow!" She cried, bolting at a dead run (which was surprisingly fast for her) straight toward him. The moment she got close enough she jumped, her arms wrapping around his neck in her excitement as she hugged him close to her, her head instinctively burrying against his neck.

"It's so good to see you!" She laughed and cried at the same instant then. He may have been her brother's best friend, but she had counted him among her closest companions along with Emily. And she had missed him more than she cared to admit. She didn't bother to let go of him, nor did she worry too much about the wolf either. At that moment, it would have taken an act of the gods to keep her from hugging him in greeting.

Hasten hadn't thought that he would get pulled into the hug, thought that he wasn't exactly the type to get hugged of the sort. But he was a human being, so he let his emotions get over him and took into the group hug, wrapping around each of their shoulders, since he was slightly taller than the other two. This was something he had always seen, but ever felt in his life. It was an odd but great feeling he was having there. The King was the only man he knew in and out, the prince knew a little less, and the others were only slightly known to him. But he enjoyed that feeling while he could, until that growl.........

Instantly, he looked over in an cold look as he backed off from the two and had already drawn out his short sword and had its blade placed on his palm, ready to slice it open. His ability with manipulating blood was something natural to his race, and he could shape it and use it to do almost anything. And when he saw that the wolf was looking directly at him, he wanted to slice his palm open, but he waited, felt another heartbeat that was familiar. And before he could get the slice, someone came out of the shadows, one that was such a great friend to the Prince: Farrow. With a sigh of relief as Larana ran forward to go join her friend, he keenly sheathed away his short sword, almost like he had not even moved, disappeared from his hand.

He hadn't really sneaked up to them, but Hasten hadn't taken knowledge of his heartbeat as he was 'hugging' Emily and Larana. He shouldn't have been surprised as he did, could of cost him his life. But any who, everything was now all fine.

" Nice entrance, Farrow. And it has been a long time. Great to see that your still alive, just like Em and Larana." He said, motioning for Emily to come and walk towards them. Arriving in front of Farrow and Larana, he put his hand forward to shake with the Ranger.
