Aari looked up at the man with pursed lips as he told her stay put. She glanced around at all the oncoming police cars and ambulances. The cops started ushering people away telling them to go home and lock their doors and windows. Aari looked at Reile, odd noises were coming from his throat. She ran into the building after the man. There is no way in hell I'm staying out here. She thought, unaware there was more danger on the inside.

Once inside she saw there was more blood here too, but she needed to find the man and figure out what the hell was going on. She thought she saw a shadow flicker across her periphral vision, she followed it down the hallway. Aari ended up at a dead end. She stared at the wall before her. When she went to turn around there was a woman standing before her. Aari jumped.

"Jeez, lady don't scare me like that, have you seen-" But the woman grabbed Aari by the shoulders and opened her mouth, her breath reeking. Aari yelled out loudly, trying to fight her off.

Templar had a feeling the woman would follow him inside. That and it would be easier to catch someone leaving than playing cat and mouse. He was so stone still that she had actually walked right past him.

It was dark but Templar never actually needed his nightvision goggles. They were as much a hindrence as an aid. If someone shined a light at them then you were blind. It was that simple.

He got up and walked after the woman. He purposefully hung back around the last corner that she had turned, not wanting to scare the woman any more than she was already. That was his mistake. In the next instance a bloodied lady was upon her and they were wrestling.

He bolted around the corner so silently that he doubted the woman had actually seen him. Then she had screamed.

At the moment, he grabbed the lady from behind and twirled, her arms were flailing about madly. Shoving the lady against the wall he moved one hand over the back of her head and gave a sharp twist. The crack that followed was so loud it sounded like thunder. And then the lady went limp and fell against the floor.

Templar stepped back and gave one sharp look at Aari and saw that there really wasn't an option with her. He put his index finger to his lips, motioning to be quiet. He then took both his hands and pulled the helmet off of his head. Underneath the helmet he had short, cropped dark hair and brown eyes; his skin was white but tanned from his many seasons out in Iraq.
He put the helmet on her and pulled the front visor down. The action activated the NVGs so she could see much better. His words were a very sharp whisper.

"Just stick on my heels..."

He turned and went back to the corner, waiting on her.

Aari watched as he threw the woman into the wall and twisted her neck. She flinched as she heard the crunch. She blinked as he placed a helmet on her head, her vision improving immensly. She nodded as he told her to be quiet and to follow. She stood close to him...

Templar moved with utter silence, sweeping each room they passed with a quick glance as he passed over everything with the barrel of the shotgun. It was odd that the lady was the only person that was still around. Sure it wasn't a big town...but still...Clearing the building took a matter of ten minutes. There was nothing but blood and that one lady.

The back door was open and the breeze was pushing it back and forth. Templar quickened his step as he went flush against the side of the door. He leaned around the corner with just his head.

It was already getting dark but that didn't matter to Templar. What did was the fact that six people were shuffling about, blood aplenty from their mouths and clothes. The yard was otherwise empty. From the time clearing the hospital he guessed that almost eighty people were in the hospital. He went back agains the wall and looked at the woman.

"Wait here for just a second."

With that he didn't wait for her reaction as he stepped back away from the door and gave it a solid kick, sending the door flying open. He stepped through and aimed at the closest person. He squeezed the trigger on the 12 gauge, knocking down and killing one of the infected people. With a solid pump, a burnt shell flew out the side.

It drew the groups attention and they started sprinting at Templar from a distance of about 50 ft, screaming along the way. He dropped two more within a two second span. They were only speeding up. He fired again and again, working quickly like a machine of war; two more dropped and only one was running all out at him. He waited until the man was three feet away before pulling the trigger, watching him crumple lifelessly to the ground...

Templar grabbed a handful of shells and started reloading...

"Clear. You can come out now." It was directed to the woman that he had left at the door.

Aari followed him as they moved throughout the building. As they emerged out into the dim evening light she sighed. She nodded as he told her to stay, and this time she did. She waited, fiddeling around with her bag. When the man called her over she grabbed his arm.

"You need to tell me what's going on." She said calmly, not even sure he knew. "I'm Aari by the way." She said, watching as he loaded his gun. She ran a hand through her long black hair in anxiety.

"I wish I really knew...Nice to meet you Aari. I'm Templar." He finished putting a few rounds in the shotgun. "We need to get back to the hummer. It would have a radio that I can talk to other units. If I talk to them then I can find out. My guess is a viral infection. Know how to use a gun? Talk on the move."

He started heading back to the humvee, travelling through the winding hospital listening to what she had to say. He made sure they didn't miss anything along the way...

"You too." She seemed distant as she thought about what was going on. She looked up at him. "I can use a tattoo gun..." She half laughed..."No I don't know how." They were walking now. She walked close to him, afraid of anything popping out at them. She could see the humvee in the distance.

"Well if this gets worse your going to learn." He said quietly as he crouched next to the desk, looking out at the humvee. Reile wasn't there and there were dozens of shell casings littering the sidewalk, splatters of blood were rampant. Every vehicle in sight was abandoned. "Where the hell did he go?"

Templar shook his head as he turned back towards Aari. "Alright, we can only assume that we are the only ones alive in this town. Thats the safest bet. I know the vault can be locked down but its a good twenty minute drive from here. If we get to the hummer we can get out of town. So what your going to do is get in the driver seat, make sure that the keys are there and that no one else is in the vehicle first."

His hand was loose on the trigger of the shotgun as he looked up over the counter again. A single person was stumbling along the abandoned road, bloodstained. It wracked Templars mind that in the course of almost twenty minutes the whole town would be this far along in whatever the hell cycle of life it was in.

"Ready?"

Aari looked up at him as he half talked to himself. She shook her head, "What you want ME to drive? Uh...okay. Yeah I'm ready." She said. She wondered what the other cities looked like...

Aari followed him as he started running towards the humvee. She couldn't really keep up with him, she was never a good runner. They reached the humvee after what seemed like forever.
