Dazac raised the hatchet over his head and swung down, a large thunk sounding as it hit the tree limb. He hacked at it again and the large branch finally fell away from the tree. He rubbed the sweat from his eyes with his sleeve and hefted the branch up slightly, swinging at it to cut it into small pieces. A short distance away, his small pack, cloak, and shirt, along with his bow and quiver of arrows all rested against a tree. He paused for a moment and looked up, gazing around the forest. He guessed that he was at least several miles into it, at the Eastern edge was a small town he'd been traveling toward, but as night began to settle, he decided to make camp and continue the next morning. He went back to hacking at the large branch, and when he was finished dragged the wood over near his effects. He set up the wood in a small pyramid and dug through his pack for his flint striker. He started a small fire, and fed it with a handful of twigs. Once it was going strong, he took a deep breath and sighed. He grabbed his shirt and put it back on, then rummaged through his pack and pulled out what remained of the jerky he had prepared several days ago. He bit into a piece and tore it with his teeth, chewing on the tasty, rough, meat. He glanced West and saw through the breaks in the canopy that the sky was quickly turning from an orange to a dark blue, the setting sun was disappearing on the horizon. He turned back to the fire and stared into the flames. The day was done, a new one would come tomorrow, just as it always did. He smiled and leaned back against the tree, closing his eyes and taking another bite of the jerky. He stayed there, in that spot, resting for nearly an hour, the only sound the crackling of the fire. Then, as the sun finished setting, the sounds of the critters of the night, moving through the trees and along the ground reached him, all staying out of the light of the fire. He was grabbing for one of the last two pieces of jerky when he heard a shrill scream off in the distance. He jumped to his feet and looked in the direction of the town he'd been heading toward. Through the trees he could see a soft orange glow permeating the sky. He frowned in its direction and stood still, listening for any more sounds. However, he heard nothing more, and wa about to sit back down when a smell drifted past him. Smoke, from a fire...a fire that wasn't the one he had made. It smelled of ash, and was thick and heavy, and carried with it was a bitter taste in the air. It tasted like...blood. In a flurry, Dazac snatched up his things and stomped the fire out. With his bow in his hand he quickly began darting through the trees toward the town. Something very bad was happening, and he had to find out what...and stop it. A look of determination came over his features. His eyes narrowed and his jaw was rigid. He was prepared to do whatever was necessary. Join here: The Empire OOC

"Oh, gods..." Dazac whispered as he broke through the forest and saw the sight before him. The entire town was ablaze! He stood and stared in awe as huge flames licked at the sky, the brilliant orange hue lighting up the sky. The heat was intense, he could feel the waves of it from where he stood. He blinked as dozens of screams reached him, people running around in panic, going every which way, some sounding as if they were dying, others sounded of fear. Dazac felt sick to his stomach...he couldn't help all these people, this entire town...how had it been set on fire? He began jogging toward the blaze, he'd get as many away as he could...he had to. There! Men on horseback, they could help, they could...Dazac stopped again. Those men were carrying swords and pikes, calmly looking at the carnage around them. The dark glint of blood shined off of their blades, made even more sinister looking by the flames that lit them. They had started the fire, they'd done it all! Dazac watched with wide eyes as a man blindly ran toward the men, screaming for help. In a swift motion one of the men swung his sword, lopping off the man's head. Dazac's face contorted in anger as he drew an arrow from his quiver and nocked it. He pulled the bowstring taut and took aim at the man who had just swung his sword. "Burn in hell." Dazac whispered, loosing the arrow. There was a dull thock, and the man slumped over, falling from his horse. The others around him instantly began shouting, looking around for the source of the arrow, but Dazac was already on the move, sprinting around to another place as he drew another arrow and readied it. He vowed that none would escape.

*Driscoll walks along the edge of the river, so close as to let the cold water run smoothly over his green scale like feet. He forces his head to the left at an attempt to work out a kink he had acquired from his previous rest. Driscoll comes to a halt, sprawling out his wings at full potential, the faded rays of light shine through, projecting soft ambient colors into the river, reflecting them back into the sky.* Ahhh! Such a beautiful sight. *In the midst of losing himself in the colors, Driscoll begins stretching out of habit. Without a moments notice, the colors are disrupted and violently blown away by a strange wind. Attention now averted, Driscoll stands up right, sniffing the air for a scent out of the ordinary.* Something isn't right. The air smells of death. Go to it. People could be in trouble. *Hesitant on what he should do, Driscoll once again listens to the voice within his head. Ignoring what he could get himself into, he rushes in the direction of the foul scent. He grounds all fours into the soil, ripping up dirt as he lunges forward. Soon after Driscoll retracts his wings so he may cut easily through the wind, allowing for smooth, superb aerodynamics on his part. With every leap, every motion made, he lets out a deep raspy grunt to expend some energy.* I better get something out of this.

Dazac quickly abandoned his goal to kill every last one of the attackers. It was far too hot in this place. His eyes were watering and he had started coughing as he inhaled the thick smoke and hot air. He stumbled through the town, jumping away from falling timbers, and staying as far from the fires as possible. From time to time he would catch a glimpse of what looked like a person, or hear a scream nearby. It was all for naught though. The fire was too hot and burned too bright. He couldn't see and could hardly hear due to the roaring fierceness of the flames. He made his way as fast as he could to the edge of the town, casting about for the sign of anyone. His eyes narrowed at the sight of more men on horseback. He drew and arrow and readied it, taking aim at the closest one. They were watching the town burn...laughing at what they'd done! He let the arrow fly and quickly drew another. By the time the first arrow hit its mark, the second and third were already in the air. Three men fell to the ground before the others could blink, but now that they'd seen the three fall, they knew the direction the attack was coming from, and had started charging toward Dazac. He cursed under his breath and started sprinting...if he could make it back into the forest, he'd have the upper hand.

"boss, the whole place is burning, we shold take him with us and get out of here!" Looking down at Chaos. "good work, get the horses ready!" Both of his men left to gather up the horses. The main man knelt down and forsed Chaos up "you my friend will help us one way or another! no-one will ever come to help you!" The two men gathered with three horses, Chaos was forsed onto one while the boss stood behind him while the two guards took one each. They took one look at the fire burning behind them before leaving for the back gate out heading for the forest. |

*Coming up on the village, Driscoll catches a glimpse of a number of horsemen chasing a lone character. He grunted a little at the sight.* Humans! They always run. Hey! I never ran. You know that. Yea well, there are a few exceptions. *With haste, Driscoll rushes over to the fleeing man. Upon reaching him, Driscoll flailed out his left wing picking the man up inside, protecting him from any oncoming attacks. Carrying the light human, Driscoll puts distance between themselves and the enemy, resting Dazac on the ground. In the next instant, Driscoll leaped back towards the knights, revealing his claws.* Think twice before attacking me human. *Both wings are now fully extended, making Driscolls appearance seem rather huge. The Knights hesitate before continuing there way toward him. They unsheathe their swords, gaining momentum to cut through the hard scales covering Driscolls body.* HM! *Before the guards could make their attempt, Driscoll had brought back his gigantic wings, launching them forward, sending a huge shock wave from his body. The two horsemen are jolted into the air, soon after landing in the fiery village. Driscoll turns his attention to the man he had previously rescued.* What about him? Are you alright human?

Dazac let out a yelp of surprise when he was suddenly picked up and carried away from the men. He stared wide eyed as the being unfurled its large wings and used them to buffet the men into the air a far ways. He backed up slightly as the creature turned back to him. He had a mental sigh of relief when it spoke...it didn't mean harm. "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you." He said, standing up. He looked back at the burning town, a dark look crossing over his eyes. There had to be a reason for such an attack, but any reason he could fathom hardly warranted such brutality. "You wouldn't happen to know what this is all about, would you?" Dazac asked the creature.

*Driscoll retracts his wings as he approaches Dazac. Speaking with a deep raspy voice, he shrugs his left shoulder.* I have no idea. I caught a foul scent from down the river, So I decided to show up. I'm sure their are innocent people still in there. You better get into the forest human. I'll be right back. *Driscoll takes a few steps before the voice comes back yet again.* Maybe you should bring him with you! *Pausing for a moment, he looks over his shoulder, nodding his head towards the village.* Think you can keep up! Just get under one of my wings if you need to. They protect against weaker magic. LET'S GO

Dazac nodded his head forward and stood. He doubted magic had much to do with the fire, but it was good to know this person was there just in case. He grinned and started running with Driscoll back into the town. "Oh, I can keep up alright." He said confidently. He draped his bow over his shoulder and ran through the town, past crumbled buildings, still ablaze. The sound of screaming was nearly drowned out by the roar of the fire, but there was still a discernible few. He swiveled his head toward a building when he heard a scream. "In here!" He slid to a stop and ran up to the door, kicking it open. The inside of the house didn't look as bad as the outside, but he could tell that the fire would soon engulf the entire structure. There was another scream as a beam fell from the ceiling and crashed through the floor. With a howl, Dazac launched himself over the fallen beam and into the burning interior. It was thick with smoke and he couldn't see, let alone breathe easily. There was a sob and he moved forward, grabbing at a pantry door and flinging it open. "In here!" Dazac shouted over his shoulder to Driscoll.
