After a few minutes, a thin, black haired, middle aged man with thick spectacles walked in behind the counter. Adjusting his glasses, he said "Ah, hello there. I am sorry for the wait, we have been perfecting a few...... details. Now then, how can I help you?"
Xelix replied, first shaking some of his brownish-blonde hair out of his eyes. "I'd like to know a bit more about this 'virtual reality' thing you are advertising." "Ah yes, you see, this is the work of our life. We have always strived towards making a real, interactive world, where you smell what your character smells, see what your character sees, and feel what your character feels. In short, you are the character." Slightly taken aback, Xelix said "Really? Why are you charging so low for it though? This could be worth millions, billlions of dollars!" "Well, sure we could make billions, but who would pay it? Rich snobs who want everything their way? No, this is open to the general public! We are opening hubs all over the nation, this is only the first of many! This is the new generation of video games my boy!" The man was growing more and more enthusiastic. "We are giving away a free six months, to spread the word around you see. How would you like to be one of the first?" Xelix, an avid gamer, replied "Of course! Just show me where this is and I'll be ready to rumble!" The man nodded, and walked towards a doorway Xelix hadn't noticed before. "Right this way please!" He said, and started walking forward. Xelix hurried to keep up. They entered a room with tons of wires and pods, all of the pods hooked up to a monitor and spacious enough to fit the average man inside. "Now, just step in a pod, and we'll do the rest. Don't worry, it's fast, painless, and requires no effort on your part. And do be careful inside there, while you certainly won't die if your character did, some of the pain might be...... transfered.... good day." Xelix stepped into a pod, and the door to it closed. He strapped on a headset, and instantly his vision started to flicker. When he opened his eyes, he was in a barren landscape. No wind blew through this land, and no flowers blossomed. A voice seemed to boom through the land, saying "Welcome to 8th dimension. You're appearance has been scanned into the game, and a suitable avatar has been created just for you. Take a look in this mirror." With a gasp, Xelix studied himself. His hair was now blue, and much longer than in real life. His facial features stayed the same, but he seemed a bit taller. He wore ocean-blue armor with a greenish hue, and on each wrist he wore a pure-white wristband. He wore armored boots, colored brown like the dead ground all around. Strapped by his waist, he had a sky-blue hand and a half sword, his a white hilt. All in all, he looked pretty cool. Again, the voice boomed. "You are an elementalist. You have the power of water, try it on his target." A target popped into the area. It was in flames, rapidly burning. Giving his character a test-drive, he stuck his palm out and some words somehow popped into his head. "Sanctus Currentous Rapido!" He shouted out. Water burst from his hand, like a horizontal waterfall. The target was drenched, drowned, and of course, damp. Xelix felt a little drained, that wasn't something he would be able to do constantly. Again, the voice said, "You are on your own from now on. To quit, simply push the button on your wristband. Good day to you, and thank you for your business." Xelix examined his wristbands closer. Sure enough, there was a button on each of them. "Eh, I'll save those for later." He said, surprised his voice was that of his own. He then started forward, looking for someone to talk to. (You can go bio-less, just make a good first post! I declare this thread open!) |

Rook had seen the sign in the doorway also and quickly went inside the building. He saw the unusual sign for him to press on an electronical button. Rook did so and a man with large glasses came out to greet him. Rook was neevr one for chit chat just as long as he got to his destination.
"Where do I sighn up?" was all he said. "Well actually for the first six months are free, care to join?" the man replied. "Is that a question, of course I want to join, just tell me where to go." Rook marked the words rather iritated that the man would ask such a stupid question, if Rook ws willing to pay to play then of course he would want to play for free. He followed the man through a doorway where he was instructed to step into a pod of somesort. Rook did so and attached all the proper gear before his vision went black. When he opened his eyes again he was in a barren landscape. A voice spoke to him, "Welcome to virtual reality, after scanning your brain an appropriate class and avatar has been selected for you to use throughout the game. Have a look at yourself. Rook flinched as a mirror appeared infront of him and his eyes widend as he looked upon himself. He was wearing a deep set, spiked helm which left his face open but it seemed to be in the shape of a dragon's open mouth. His armor was also black and it fight tightly too his body, jagged black blades exttended from the arm sections of the armor. At his waist was a black sheath with a longsword in it. Upon drawing the blade Rook saw that it was entirely black. It wasnt until he put the sword away and bumped the sheath into something that he realized he had a tail extending fom his backside. It was covered in overlapping segmented armor that had sharp blades slanting from them. the tail moved on it's own acord until Rook tried moving it himself. It responded to every command he gave it. He also had a black leather pack on his back that was completly empty except for some rope. The voice went off again,"You are a Draconic, you are a hybrid between dragon and human. Your physical abilities are about ten times that of the normal man and your anatomy has clearly changed. This is where I leave you, to exit the game simply coil your tail around your legs." the voice then left and Rook was thrown into a scorched wasteland. "Well, lets get started." Rok said to himself and began to run forward at a speed of what he assumed must have been at least forty miles per hour. Last edited by Rook : 10-12-2008 at 07:59 PM. |

Xelix was sent spinning as the half-dragon ran by him.
"Whoa whoa whoa!" He said, landing on the ground. "What's the rush? Is there a giant monster chasing you or something?" He picked himself off the ground, brushing his armor off. "You're bound to run a guy over, sheesh!"

Rook slid to a stop some 30 feet past the man he had just blown by. There was a deceant amount of dust that had to setle before Rook could see clearly behind him. The man was clad in blue armor and was obviously of a different class since he didnt have any draconic features.
" Well incase you havn't noticed, this may be a game but time still moves at it's own pace in the real world and I intend to make use of it." Rook hadnt actually spoken aside from the mumbleing to himself he had done early on int he game. he was surprised to hear how cold and harsh, almost venemous his voice had become. |

"Yeah but, who knows what you could miss by rushing?" Xelix pointed out. "Like some ancient ruins, secret areas, treasure, anything!" He then noticed a dust crowd building on the horizon. "Or perhaps that stampede of monsters." He said wryly. "I don't know about you, but I want to see what I can do in this body. Are ya with me?" All the while, the monsters came closer and closer.

Rook's eyes narrowed. He never teamed up unless necessary. Though technically he wouldnt be teaming up since there was more than one adversary. After a moment of silence Rook grunted and sped off headlong into the dust cloud. His right arm pulled back, ready to spring forward. Once he closed the distance between himself and the lead creature he extended his right arm, the blade cut clean through the monster's throat while Rook's armored fist struck the monster behidn the lead one int he chest creating a small shockwave on impact. Whe a creature on Rook's left tried to take his flank Rook whipped his tail in that direction a knocked the beast backwards. Rook didnt bother brawing his sword, he wanted to know his own limits not the limits of his weaponry.

Another group of monsters, flying from the skies, swooped down towards Xelix. Grimacing in concentration, he activated the water spell. All five beasts were knocked out of the sky, after which Xelix effortlessly sliced them open with his sword. He spun around in time to block an attack from one of the original monsters, and punched it in the head. It fell to the ground, and Xelix stabbed downward with his sword. All of his foes were gone. Xelix looked around. That was actually quite fun. This would be well worth the eventual money he would have to pay.

Rook hadnt changed his stance. he didnt move nor did he speak. His eyes darted from side to side. Then he spoke, "We're not done yet." He said this wearily as the ground beneath their feet began to shake. Cracks spread along the wasteland. Then there was silence, nothing moved, nothing shook. Only silence.
A huge plume of sand erupted from the ground inbetween Rook and Xelix. As the sand fell back toward the grouns it revealed an enormous worm like creature. At least four stories tall. The beast waverd for a moment before multiple barbed tenticales extended form the creature's body. " This is what I call challenge!" Rook exclaimed as much to himself as to Xelix. Drawing his blade Rook fended off the barbed appendeges as they tried to grasp him and throw him into the creature's maw as they did with the bodies of the other monster. It was then that Rook realized that they hadnt fought a hunting party but a group of prey trying to escape the predator. That's why they put up such little fight. The only wanted to get away and maybe leave them behind to slow this monster down. How Rook was gonna kill this thing he knew not but he sure as hell wasnt going to die on level one. He parried all the while until one of the tentacles over shot and left an opening for Rook to slice it in half. What spewed out smelt horrible but what wa even worse was that it was here that the tentacle forked and seperated into two entirely different limbs while the seperated body part began to burrow into the ground. Rook grabbed it and tied it into a knot before placing it in his pack. He then turned his attention two the mater at hand. |
