OOC: To Infinity...And Beyond! [OOC]

IC:

Captain Buford stared out of the cockpit, admiring the view that was laid out before him…Drunfor space. The stars twinkled innocently on their black backdrop, smaller ships passed by the window a few times, routinely looking out for anything odd on the hull. Threats had been made by conservative groups about the mission, and they had been anticipating a terrorist attack. The Drunfor scoffed There’s nothing wrong with my ship. He continued to look out of the window, lost in thought, mainly about the upcoming mission, which was edging closer and closer. He was very excited about the whole thing, it was something he had spent most of his life dreaming about, but he had been unable to perform, until now. Of course, many companies and other organisations had begun their own exploration efforts, looking for materials and workspace (Or cheap labour, Buford had hypothesised). None of these efforts had come back though, presumably lost. Or perhaps they had succeeded in colonising new worlds, and realised they were much better than their original homes?

Buford began to pace the room; it was circular, computer panels taking up most of the edges. The captain’s seat was central and overlooked a few more computer stations which dealt was navigations and weapons. In front of them and next to the window was a small table, which showed some sort of map, which would be utilised later on. From this room, Buford controlled pretty much all the ship, although the guard stations had limited power over the ship’s internal systems too. The cockpit followed a white modern look, completed with panelled walls, like most of the ship, in fact, all of it, apart from the Fey Observatory, which was dominated in plants and flora.. Buford reached a small machine at the back of the room and began pressing a few buttons quickly, he knew this machine well. The device began churning and whizzing, something was going on inside of it. Eventually a cup emerged from a panel in the back. Buford picked it up with his upper right hand, and looked inside.
“Coffee, one of the good sodding Human discoveries” He muttered, before taking a sip and waddling away. He plodded over to his seat, jumped into its cushion and began adjusting it, staring out of the window again. This time there were a few drones washing the screen, wiping it over. The captain scowled, the only thing holding them back was some stupid domestic drones that the senate were insisting cleaned the ship before take off, like hostile aliens were going to care if their cannons were squeaky clean. They had actually been on board for almost a week, settling in to their new environment and learning their roles. Efficiency was important for a ship like it this, it was integral people knew what room was what, and more fundamentally – where the escape pods were.

Suddenly there was a harsh bleep. One of the crew members, a human, ran up to a console and began punching in buttons, before turning to the Captain.
“Sir, the senate wants to address you” He said, adding a salute to the end. Buford smirked and nodded his head, giving the man permission to patch the message through. Two small rods fell from the ceiling above the mapped table about 4 metres apart, with a small flash; a holo-screen appeared in between them. On the screen was the Senate, sat around a giant table, with the Drunfor leader at the helm, looking straight down the screen. Representatives from every race were gathered, looking serious as they addressed Buford.

“Captain, this will be our final message before you leave” The Drunfor leader, Forford, stated “The drones will be finished within minutes, we’ll then detach the orbital platform from the Ford, and you’ll be free to leave” He gave a nod, passing the buck to one of the other council representatives. The Perfurian rep also gave a slight nod.
“I must stress the importance of unity on this mission, and if you do find civilization, make sure you show them the respect they deserve” The woman said, her voice sounding soft like velvet, although, Buford couldn’t tell if she was taking a stab at his demeanour. He had met her before, at the debriefing for the mission, she had very stuck-up and grandiose. Annoying. He simply gave a knowing nod and smiled, knowing that they would be able to see his reaction. Buford was almost glad that their communications wouldn’t be able to reach them once they had left.
“Just know, that the Senate and the populous are behind you and your team” The Human ambassador said with a set of odd hand gestures. Another thing Buford never understood about Humans, their annoying hand gestures. “Now I suggest you gather some of your team into the cockpit, so they can see your take off” The senators began to wave and smile. Buford gave a forced 2-handed wave back before the screen shut off and the rods returned to the ceiling. He looked around and sighed heavily, it was time to get this mission started…

“Hello, you have been selected to watch our take off in the cockpit, please make your way their immediately. Take off is in T-minus ten minutes”” He said into the com device that was built into his chair. All crew members were required to wear a similar one on their wrists. The message would be received by all those on Buford’s randomised invitation list and the senior staff, almost like a instant messenger for everyone on the ship. Once had given his orders, he sat back in his seat and watched the window again. The drones had gone, returned to the hangar as shown by the alert on his chair. This was good news for Buford. They were almost ready to go…

OOC:
Senior staff = Heads of Departments + Co-Captain + Officer of the Watch.

Yes, the rest of you have been randomly invited to the cockpit. Well apart from our Pilot who should be here anyway XD

Yuuki's anger was increasing, as was her false smile as she read the screen:
----
[Accuracy systems - offline]
[Agility systems - offline]
[Maximum Power levels - 40%]
[Visibility - online]
----

The list continued. Yuuki grabbed the screen and shook it. "Come on!" She yelled. She tried to shake it again but it retreated back into the ceiling. Yuuki fell back and landed onto her chair. '.....Maybe marriage was better.... No. If I marry a abuser, then I might be killed....' Yuuki thought as she closed her eyes. 'No.... I mean killed again....' Yuuki grit her teeth, then started to examine her living quarters. It was white, paneled, modern. It sure was better than a grey prison cell, or an old tent, for that matter. Yuuki's eyes wandered until they fell on the spot for the ceiling screen. Yuuki glared at nothing for a second, then an electronic beep startled her enough to throw her out of her chair. Her wrist was vibrating. 'A message...?' Yuuki let the message play:
"...Hello, you have been selected to watch our take off in the cockpit, please make your way their immediately. Take off is in T-minus ten minutes..."
Yuuki frowned as she stood up and started for the cockpit. She slowed, realizing that the 'commander' of the ship would be there. Yuuki smiled broadly as she ran as fast as her systems let her for the cockpit. 'Maybe...! Maybe he will allow me to be fully "operational"!' Yuuki's mind ran wild with what he/she looked like and what she would be able to do when she was completely operational. Yuuki's enthusiasm started to fade when she realized she was slower than she was before she got on the ship. 'Ten minutes....' she thought as she ran through the ship.

Lieutenant Hamilton did not have time for this; he did not need to see the ship leave dock. So many more productive things needed to happen, a ceremony was not required. The captain and some recording cameras would suffice; his job was to ensure the ship, and all its crew ran perfectly and because so much effort was wasted in the last few days, they had to play catch up. Reayus Hamilton was quite upset, the lack of discipline was appalling, this ship had best turn around, and quickly. Sometimes he wondered why it was that he even took this position, he was much happier running his own capital ships, keeping order and discipline and helping to a run a science and exploration vessel was not his ideal job. How he had been duped into this, he would never know. The ship, for one, was hideous; it's alien design hurt his eyes, luckily his quarters were made to his specifications, a little monetary expenditure, well worth the effort. Besides that, the crew itself, hundreds of aliens, and even machines, no less...

The main corridor leading to the bridge was extremely full, all sorts of crew members gathered as close as they could to the bridge, just to catch a glimpse of the event.

"What are you doing? All of you! Yes, you! Get to your posts! There is work to be done!" Lt. Hamilton was extremely displeased, he even thought he saw one of the human crewmen roll his eyes. This ship has a lot of work to be done, thought Reayus.

Every second his stood there, he felt more and more that this would be the worst few years of his career. However, due to the publicity and importance of this mission, he would surely become a fleet commander for his work, finishing off the last of the necessary qualifications. That at least, made him feel slightly better.

Despite being so close to the bridge, Lt. Hamilton thought it best to ensure that one last detail be put in order, he could not, in good conscious, watch the ship leave dock knowing that something major was out of order. and given the current super stardom the crew had been displaying, he thought it his moral duty to check. Walking briskly through the maze of hallways Lt. Hamilton came to one of the starboard hangars. There, sitting in the middle of the hanagr was a raw industrial nuclear component. The very same one that was shipped as a last minute request, the extremely volitile block of technology sat there staring him in the face. Lt. Hamilton was livid, and his look seemed to express that; silently he looked for the work party leader. Finding the man standing near one of the farther doors, their eyes met; instantly the man knew, and immediately yelled to some lazy looking crew hands to secure the dangerous equipment. Why such an important task was not completed, and why it took a man in Lt. Hamilton's position to come all the way down here last minute to fix the porblem, he would never understand. Had it not been secured, it would surley fall over, possibly melting through several decks, and possibly igniting something in the engineering bays far below, destroying the ship. Lt. Hamilton let out a sigh, words could not express his indignation, was this even a ship? Civilians, he thought...

Making his way back to the bridge, Lt. Hamilton felt very tired, this would be an excruciating tour of duty...

Cole was already in the cockpit in his postion, waiting for the launch of the Ship. Of course he was going to get the best seat in the house for the launch, after all he was the pilot and he was launching the ship. He had waited since he was a really young child to have the chance to pilot a ship. And is was not any normal ship, it was the Ford, named after the great William Ford. He watched the message from Captain Brunford, who had invite people to see the launch of the ship. He just sat in the pilots seat waiting for the rest of the senior members to arrive in the cockpit, he knew that not many would respond because they would be way too busy to do so. he had heard rumours that the ship was behind scehdule. And what ship wasn't. The three or four that he piloted to the moon and back had always been really behind target. He also wonder who else had recived the message. What race they were, and how well he would get along with them. After all it was going to be a long trip on board. He had never really been a socail butterfly, but here could be a new start. Infact it would be a new start. He turned to the captain.

"T-Minus 8 Minutes Sir."

Ankou looked up from the plant that she was re-potting at the annoying silver bracelet like device beeping a few meters away on another work bench. She knew the moment she was issued it she was going to have a problem with it. She hadn't worn it yet, in fact this was the first time it had done anything at all. She finished with the plant and dusted her hands off heading to the device to see why it was making a fuss.

[t-7 for departure.your presence is requested in the cockpit. ]

Ankou's lip curled, as she dropped the bracelet back on the work bench and headed for the door that lead to her quarters, changing her dress. In the week that they had been on board she had not left her quarters or the conservatory where she worked. Satisfied with her appearance She took a deep breath and stepped out into the main hallway, happily it was empty. Rather unconsciously she changed her colouring and headed towards the cockpit. Ankou took her time and avoided seeing any one till she reached the cockpit door, a quick glare at the guard and she stepped inside. She stood near the back wall and waited.

Lt Cmdr. Smiles was out side the ship in his fighter flying around. As he was flying he chased down one of the Drones locking on to it "come on you little flying garbage can, i'll blast you out of the sky." As he was about the fire at teh drone he heard a voice on the inside of his head "Commander Smiles, Chief Johnson Are you done with your flight test Yet?. Cmdr. Smiles Groaned hearing the Chief and pulled off the drone heading back to the ship to dock "Chief Johnson, Commander Smiles, Ya I'm done I'm heading in now." He Piloted his fighter back to the Ford and made a connection to the the ship, Docking information displayed on his eyes and he, as usually, completely ignored it. Coming in way to fast he charged right into the side of the ship screaming at the top of his lungs, He quickly put all thrusters to reverse and diverted all power to his engines in and instant thanks to his "jack" and rapidly slowed down. He barely missed the bulkhead and laughed as he landed in his Designated spot and his cockpit opened, a ladder was rolled up to it and Chief Johnson was at the top of it "Commander your going to get your self killed one of these days." Smiles just laughed and climbed down after the Chief and his ground crew started to run Post-flight checks as Smiles noticed his wrist communicator Beeping "I'm going to hate this thing" He listened to the Message then grunted "you seen one ship leave dock for the first time, you seen them all. Chief, Let me see the Weekly PMS reports for sheila " The Chief saluted him and with an aye sir was off to get the weekly PMS reports.

X sat crossleged in a small compartment in the engineering Tool room. the day had been stressfull and everyhting was winding up for the impending launch. X's monoeye was shut off at the momnent but his sound sensors as well as motion dectecters were still on full blast. he didn't like all the nosie right now people yelling and baning and alot of cussing. he smiled. something that no one would be able tos see because of his lack of facial features. he had caused some of the mahem by pulling a practical joke. he had put a Yorain Fruit flyer in one of the cuppling hatches. and one of the technictians had opened it. the chaos that had ensued after that had been most refreshing. he continued to relax until a voice cut across his thoughts "please make your way their immediately. Take off is in T-minus ten minutes". making an irratated static blast X stood up and walked out of the closet. a nearby tech jumped and then scuttled out of his way. there had been a lot of rumors flying around about him haveing killed human children during the dismantelment war. thas of course was bull as were the many other rumors with the exception of one. that he was the cause of all the small practical jokes that had been occuring in the engineering departments. that one was true. reaching a console X tapped a small button and spoke in an emotionless monotone "Captian this is X from engineering. I will bot be able to join you or the rest of the crew for launch. My duties requireme to be down here." this was only a hlaf truth. all his tewchs would be able to take carer of things here. but honestly he didnt want to go up to the cockpit.

Buford grunted as he sat in the chair, looking miserably at the alarm. ‘T-Minus 5 minutes’ it read. 5 minutes! In 5 actual minutes they would be leaving…at last.
“Took their sodding time” Buford moaned, referring to the council who had been pushing back the date for days. The captain had worked out that the expedition could have left 2 days ago if it hadn’t been for their meddling. He sighed and swivelled around to see who had turned up so far – A female fey, Buford should have known her name considering she was part of his crew, but he couldn’t remember. He shrugged it off and continued to see who else had made it so far. To his disappointment, no-one of particular importance had made it yet. Trying not to look too disappointed he smiled at the ones who had come, before standing up on his chair.

He had decided to do a quick speech before the ship was undocked from the platform. He waved his 4 stubby arms in the air, trying to get the attention of the various others there. Looking at them from his new vantage point made Buford realise something…he was small. His height standing on the chair was roughly the height of the others when they were stood up. He took a deep breath, trying to take no notice of their vertical advantage.
“Fellow explorers, I welcome you to the Ford, this will be your home for the next few years…So hopefully you will become accustomed to my regular sleepwalking” He joked, he didn’t actually sleepwalk…well, at least he didn’t think he did. A few of the guests laughed, quickly falling silent so that the Grunfor could continue “I hope to make this an exciting and inspiring journey for all. I know it may be hard for some of us: leaving families; commitments or other things. But, I can assure you all, that those sacrifices will be worth it for the things we will discover, people we will meet and guidance we will bring” by now he was flailing all his arms dramatically, looking like some sort of performing circus animal on a stool.

“Now, I see that many of us are from different backgrounds and I would like to assure you all that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated” he said, gritting his teeth. He hated them all.
Sodding tall bastards
“This is a senate funded project, and I’ll be damned if anyone on this ship is abused” He puffed up his chest and began stroking his plated head.
“Now, as we gather in this room, united by our mission and purpose we will watch the Ford takes its first FTL jump. I welcome you again, to the Ford” he finished his speech to some applause. Buford gave a quick bow before checking his wrist device. He had an invitation decline from X. His alarm was also beeping. ‘T-mins 60 seconds” The excitement was getting quite intense for the small man. He hastily looked over to his Pilot, issuing orders to begin the engines.

In 60 seconds…they’d be on their way.

Cole sat in the pilots seat, makin sure that all of the systems were still in working order. He checked them one by one. Crucail systems, Online. Engines, Online. Weapons Sytems, Online. Shield. Online. The list continued on and on. However in the four minutes since informing the captain of the launch time and the minute that Captain Buford had began his speech, he had managed to check that whole of the ship was funtionable and online. Then Captain Buford began his speech. When the Capian mention about discrimination, Cole noted a hint of resentment in his voice, maybe it something to do with him, due to his racial factors, being smaller than most of the crew. Cole dismissed it, after all, Buford was the creature (Refering to all races, even the humans as creatures was something that Cole had fallen in to the habbit of doing) that was in charge of this mission.

After the speech Cole checked the countdown on the screen infront of him as an announcement informed the whole of the crew that the launch would begin in T-sixty secounds. Biford turned to him and started to issue commands to him, which he followed precisely, although he had been through the launch of a ship over twenty times while transporting people to and from the moon. He had also read the steps that he should follow for this exact ship, after all it was much more technologically advaned than the basic transport ships that he had once been flying. It was a good job that he knew what he was doing, as the captain reeled of the instructions a bit fast, and he would have been overwekmed had he not.

He checked the countdown again.

T-45.

Yuuki would've fallen from exhaustion had the guard not been there to see her. He quickly caught her, then realized that she was the Head of Security. It could've been Yuuki's imagination or overheated circuits, but she thought she saw some disappointment on his face. He helped her up and asked her to hurry inside. Yuuki nodded, suddenly feeling nervous. She then remembered something she was taught at the laboratory. She tried activating her secondary "characteristics" systems by authorization codes. Yuuki closed her eyes, then started speaking in monotone. "Authorization class SIGMA. Abstemious systems request. Awaiting approval." Yuuki could tell the guards were watching her. Authorization ineffective. Ask commanding officer...
Yuuki bit her lip. 'So much for "free-will".' She thought. Yuuki took a deep breath, then opened the door. Yuuki body suddenly moved on it's own, immediately taking a military grade posture and marching in. She walked towards the side wall, turned to the captain, gave a quick salute, then stood perfectly still, facing the window. 'This is new....' She thought. 'Maybe this is so the directors at the lab don't look sloppy? The want me to look like the perfect subordinate.' Yuuki tried to move, but her body stayed in position. Auto SIGMA idiosyncrasy behavior functions online. Commander input release active. Yuuki thought about what her systems told her. 'T-that means I cannot move until someone talks to me...?' Yuuki thought angrily and skeptically.
