Default Under the Sky So Blue

The forest was remarkably quite for this hour of the day, no birds sang their sweet intoxicating melodies; no wind blew through the trees echoing the voices of the past travelers; nothing but the sweet sound of nothingness. A lone traveler walked down the winding forest path, a man roughly around six feet tall with blonde hair. He wore a pair of loose fitting black trousers, a tight black shirt under a leather chest piece, dark brown leather boots, and a forest green cloak thrown over everything. His footsteps virtually made no sounds; the only sound that could actually be heard from his was his humming. He carried a katana slung across his back in easy reach, and the scabbard of the katana was beautiful black leather with silver vines crawling up the scabbard for decoration. He seemed to be almost lost in another world as he began walking up the steep hill in front of him; he occasionally tossed an apple up into the air and caught it before taking a bite out of it.

“The sky,” the man said softly “is unbelievably blue today.” He began reaching the top of the hill only to have his blissful state destroyed. The sight on the descending hill and in the valley between all those trees was the sight of death.

“This…this was a trading carven,” the man said walking through the destruction. Men, women, and children lay before him, starring up at the blue sky never to see anything else again. Arrows pierced everything, sword slices were everywhere, and spear thrusts penetrated the soul. The lone traveler fought to keep walking forward, every muscle in his body wanted to and run away from this death scene, but he kept moving forward wanting to know just who did this. He gained his answer when he saw a pattern on a tree drawn in blood. “Thought it was you,” he said looking at it as he kept moving down the path with that scene behind him.

Several hours later he emerged from the forest and the sky was dark, but he saw the lights of a small inn several hundred feet away. The lone traveler made his way to the inn, only to be stopped by two guards who were put on post at the front door of the inn that was called Paradise.

“Who the hell do you think you are,” one of the guards said giving the traveler a shove who then replied by showing the guards his katana.

“My partner here didn’t know,” the other guard said opening the door for the traveler “he’s in room one.”

The traveler didn’t say anything as he walked in and up the stairs. He approached the first room and pushed up the door that was already ajar.

“Oh hello Voltain, didn’t even hear you walk up the stairs,” a man sitting in a chair at the desk said as he turned around to face the traveler who had the name Voltain.

“It’s been awhile Sefirosu,” Voltain said closing the door behind him.

“Six years if I remember correctly,” the man sitting down said as he stood up. A katana similar to Voltains was strapped around Sefirosu’s waist, only this one had gold vines crawling up the scabbard.

“You killed those travelers back in the forest,” Voltain said softly looking down.

“True,” Sefirosu said facing Voltain.

“They were innocent,” Voltain said more sternly raising his head and looked Sefirosu right square in the eyes.

“False,” Sefirosu said mockingly “they deserved to die.”

“But why everyone,” Voltain said through clenched teeth “Why did you have your men kill everyone.”

Sefirosu laughed “I intend to kill them all eventually and I had to start somewhere. And besides those traders were carrying slaves in some of the carts, there were good traders and evil traders, so to say.”

“It’s not your right to decide whether they live of die. They deserved a chance!” Voltain shouted lunging at Sefirosu with a clenched fist only to be countered as Sefirosu kneed Voltain in the stomach. Voltain stumbled back and leaned against the wooden door only to be broken through it when Sefirosu kicked him square in the chest. Voltain stumbled to his feet only then to be thrown door the stairs as an infuriated Sefirosu followed beating up the lone traveler whenever Voltain stood up. Sefirosu opened the door and tossed Voltain out and unsheathed his katana and placed the blade on Voltain’s neck.

“I can’t believe a pathetic weakling like you was ever in my gang,” Sefirosu said as he looked down as Voltain, who was kneeling and coughing up blood. “You never even used that blade I had made for you little brother. You are no different then all the humans I will kill when the time comes, I suggest you make good use of the time you have left in this world.”

Sefirosu removed the blade and began to walk away only to quickly turn around and slice Voltain’s face across the right eye. Voltain fell back screaming in pain as blood began to stain the ground. “Humans…how pathetic,” Sefirosu said as he walked back inside and closed the doors behind him.

Voltain finally got a hold of himself and stumbled to his feet, the blood was still flowing freely but it didn’t feel like his eye had been cut.

“Big brother…why?” Voltain asked himself as he began walking off only to feel a sudden sense of rage come over him “I will kill you, you bastard.”

Voltain walked for several hours again only to finally come to the gates of a city by the name Mielon. Voltain stumbled through the empty cobblestone streets of the city to finally come across the city tavern. Voltain immediately drew the attention of everyone in the tavern as he walked in and sat down blood still trickling down his face.

“What the hell happened to you?” the bartender asked the traveler who just entered.

“Water…hot water please,” Voltain said as he put a silver coin on the table.

The bartender shrugged as he picked up the coin and returned with the water and placed it in front of Voltain. “I suggest you get the cut checked out, looks rather nasty,” the bartender said as he walked away and Voltain picked up his cup of water.

(Rules: no god moding, be reasonable with your posts, use detail, that kinda stuff. Also this is a Trigunish RP, just without the the anything from Trigun, the only thing from Trigun is some of the dialog I will use and the plot line somewhat. No guns, no rockets, no modern or future stuff, this is medieval fantasy. Have fun)

[I haven't actually seen the series, but I have read the summary of both the show and the Under The Sky So Blue episode. I hope this works? And, I'm just going to post a picture of my character. I find people like that better? So. If there's a problem, just...smack me upside the head and send me a message.]

Julianne Vahn had been sitting rather quietly at her own table, a small white cup resting on the wooden table in front of her. The grain in the table moved horizontally across the table, her dark brown eyes following it slowly as she sat in silence. Steam rose from the cup, disappearing into the air. The clothing on her form suggested that she was just a simple woman, just sitting inside of a tavern to get away from life's more complicated situations. Just a simple pale blue shirt and dark black pants made of some kind of velvet like cloth. Her body language suggested that she was tired, right hand propped up against her face with her elbow leaning against the wood. Fingertips pressing into her right temple, eyes closing every now and then to rest them.

However, a sound of whispering breaking out and quiet talking made her eyes open and turn her attention to whatever the commotion was. A man was hobbling through the tavern and making his way to a table. If she looked just right, she could see the blood seeping down his face. Her head tilted slightly, but no one was brave enough to approach him besides the bartender. Clearing her throat, she removed a cloth from her left pocket and stood up from her table. Her black boots thudded lightly along the floor as she moved, coming over to the stranger with blood running down his face. Julianne was not one to exactly throw herself out there to a stranger, but she tapped him lightly upon his shower and reached in front of him to set the cloth on the table in his view. "I'd use that for your eye, unless you are planning on just allowing it to continue to dribble down your face. I'd recommend following the bartender's advice and getting your eye checked out. There is a local healer like man who can help with that."

Voltain looked at the woman who approached him out of the corner of his eye and slowly extended his hand and picked up the cloth and placed it over his right eye. Voltain stumbled through the words to say in his mind for this charitable act of kindness, and with being unaccustomed to such kindness found it difficult to speak. He sat their silent for a few minutes applying pressure to his face as the once white cloth was now stained with Voltain’s crimson red blood.

“Thank you for the kindness miss,” Voltain said softly almost inaudible and then took of sip of water. Voltain traced his finger around the ceramic cup of his trying to find what to say next. Voltain wasn’t accustomed to talking to people since he usually traveled alone and kept to himself whenever he was in a city or town. “Is the cut really that bad?” Voltain asked in that almost inaudible voice of his and looked back at his trail of blood leading from the door to his seat “I suppose it would be wise to see healer. Where can I find the healer?”

It felt as if the blood was coming to a stop but Voltain couldn’t really tell to much. Voltain’s head began to feel rather light, his vision was splitting, and to him the world was spinning all around him. Voltain tried to rise to his feet and walk it off, only to fall backwards unconscious and onto the tavern floor.

[I apologize beforehand, for this enormous post!]

Julianne watched him with a slightly tilted head, her dark brown eyes gazing at him. He seemed hesitant to reach out and grab the cloth, and at first she was about to just tell him to grab it until his hand finally began to stretch out across the table to the white cloth. She cleared her throat and found herself slowly turning around to leave after he sat there in silence. What had she been expecting from him? Perhaps at least some kind of speech, one little word perhaps, but she got nothing. When she was about to take her first step away, she suddenly heard a soft voice. Right hand reaching up, she brushed the thick brown strands of hair from her face and turned to look at him once more.

The cloth was completely stained and was probably soaking wet to the touch. Julianne simply shook her head. "There is no need to thank me, Sir. I just beat some other person to helping you out." She paused, moving a little closer and gazing at the cut. "As for your slash, my friend, it is a rather nasty slash you have." He began to stand up, and she jerked her head backwards so he didn't bump into her. But then he began to fall backwards. Reacting quickly, she slid underneath his body with her knees, her hands reaching out quickly and wrapping underneath his arms and around the front of his shoulders.

She shook her head violent to get the hair back from her vision, a puff of air being blown upwards by curling her lower lip out. "Merlin!" Julianne called out to the bartender, who immediately popped out from the backroom. "I need some help to get this guy on over to the healer and brought back here for the night." He grumbled a bit, and she snapped at him to hush his mouth; she would pay him for his troubles. She got another man who was standing by to help Merlin carry him out the door and into the streets. The sun had set, of course, and the temperature had dropped a bit, so it was chilly. The healer's house was only a couple minutes away.

The man's body was rested on what appeared to be a bed, the cut along his eye being cleaned and wiped clear of blood. It was still going to bleed a bit, so he thought best if he put some very thin thread in and stitch it up. He could come back in a couple days after it had begun to close and get the thread out of his skin. Then some white bandages were wrapped around his head, covering that eye up, and along with some herbs that would help him sleep, they were off again in only a couple hours. Julianne bought a room that the man could sleep in.

"Merlin, I'll need some tea and some food for this man when he wakes up. Think you could work on that special you were speaking of earlier? You will be paid every cent you have earned." She added gently, and he sighed before leaving with the other man. Julianne pulled the shoes off of the man's form and pulled the blanket over his body. She dared not remove anything else for fear if the man woke up, he might throw a fit. While the food and tea was being prepared, she went down to her table to get the bag she carried with her. Mostly just useless things were in there, but alas, something that would keep her entertained. A book. Sitting down in a chair across the room from the bed, she opened it, and began to read.

(Not a problem, and for clearance italics means like a dream sequence or dream like state)

Voltain lay in the bed practically motionless except for the steady rise and fall of his chest. Every once in a while he would roll onto his side and quickly roll back onto his back. Voltain hadn’t even been in a real bed in a couple weeks, and under better circumstances he probably would be enjoying it a bit more.

Voltain was walking down a forest path once again. However this time the sky wasn’t that blue it was earlier in the day, it was dark red. It was almost like in this dream he had entered a twisted alternate realm to the world he once knew. After climbing the hill the sight he saw was even more gruesome then what Voltain had experienced earlier in the day. He saw the slaughter happen before his eyes, he saw his brother and his men slaughter an entire trading caravan. Some tried to run away only to be killed from an unseen archer lurking in the forest, others met the spear and sword, and some caught the circular blade attached to a chain wielded by Sefirosu’s right hand man. Some even had the unfortunate experience of meeting Sefirosu only to be painfully cut down by his katana without remorse. The scene was finally over but the men and women and children still plagued the ground. Faces twisted in agony, still screaming, still clutching one another. Blood began to fall from the sky in this horror show of a dream Voltain was having. Then though just as mysteriously as he entered this recent occurrence he was faced with a new one, something that happened many years ago, the day Voltain learned to despise his older brother.

Blood ran down the grooves in the elaborate stonework of the streets as Voltain walked down the once populous streets. His grip on his katana was turning his knuckles white. He couldn’t believe the sight he saw and the idea that he had been apart of causing it.

“What have I done?” Voltain said softly “I let her down.”

Voltain walked through the streets blood and body filled streets that led the way to his brother. He knew that where more bodies were, Sefirosu was near by. The path finally ended at the local governments meeting hall, Voltain slowly pushed open the door and walked up the stairs that were covered with blood and dismembered bodies. Sefirosu was in the main office sitting on the oak table with his katana sticking out of the head official’s back and was smoking his pipe.

“There you are, here for your cut I take it,” Sefirosu picked up a pouch of gold and tossed it at Voltain who just let it fall to the floor. Voltain stared at his brother and readjusted his grip. “You’re reaction to this was greater then I expected. You’re so fun little brother,” Sefirosu said pulling his katana out and faced his brother only to begin walking past him not wanting to waste his time with him.

“Whenever I look at you, I'm reminded about everything I hate about myself. It hurts brother,” Voltain said softly and was cut across the back by his brother in a fit of rage.

“It really is a shame what happened,” Sefirosu said walking out the door “But atleast you know just how much pain there is in living now.”

Voltain immediately shot up in a cold sweat and hyperventilating, but slowly regained his self and begin looking around the room unsure of where he was or how he got there.

[The things in italics are part of her book, just a heads up.]

"Can you not stay?" Verya asked, taking a step towards him as he stood on the balcony. The wind brushed past his hair, sending the dark curls flying in different directions and tumbling across his face. Her voice had a sense of pleading, of begging in it, asking him if he would stay with her for one night. Just one night. One night of happiness, of pain, of fear, of love. Einion just closed his eyes and bowed his hand, strong hands coming up and resting upon the railing of the balcony. A sigh slipped from his lips, and Verya felt something pressing against her heart on the inside. Something stirred. Now she was closer to him, her hands pressing up against his back.
"You know what happens when the sun rises." He stated clearly, his head rising and looking out into the night. Verya shook her head.
"Einon, please. Please." The last word of her begging was incredibly soft, a whisper. He inhaled slowly and -

Julianne glanced up from the book and to the door of where one of Merlin's helpers was walking in with a tray. Always at the good part of the books, come the interruptions. "Couldn't come up himself, eh?" She asked with something of a smile upon her lips. She placed the book down and met him halfway, exchanging money and the tray. On the tray was a bowl of what appeared to be some kind of beefy stew with toasted and buttered bread on a small plate on the tray. Along with that was a medium sized cup of tea and a spoon. Julianne placed the tray upon the night stand beside his bed, removing the herbs from her pants pocket. Part of the contents were placed into the tea, and she stirred it in. This would help him fall back asleep sleep and allow the cut to heal.

She got everything situated and sat down to begin to read again. Her thoughts went to the man, he had been tossing and turning throughout the whole ordeal as he slept. Julianne got about ten more minutes of reading, when he suddenly jerked up on the bed. She jumped herself, the book falling from her lap and onto the floor. He looked around the room, and would probably see Julianne leaned up against the small table that had the small lantern-like light on it. After a minute of remaining silent, she inhaled slowly. "Everything is alright, Sir. You're in a tavern, had a bit of a nasty flash over your eye. I got it sewn up for you, and there's bandages covering it and your eye so it heals. You, uh, should eat something and get some more rest." She crossed over to the night stand and rested the rest of the herbs on the tray. "Those will help you sleep, some are already in the tea." It was none of her business what he was dreaming about, or what happened. Slowly, she turned and was making her way to pick up her things to leave.

Voltain now readjusted himself in the bed so his was sitting straight up against the headboard. Voltain was once again stumbling over the words to say and knew that if he didn’t say anything reasonably intelligent or intriguing she would leave and think he was a complete nut case.

“I want to thank you again for being so kind to me,” he said starting out speaking at a volume that could actually be heard “Please excuse me for my lack of words before. As you could tell I wasn’t in the greatest of shape.”

Voltain scratched his head and then rubbed his fingers across the scar; it stung and burned exceedingly badly. Voltain then began to rub his back where his other scar from his brother was.

“This actually wasn’t the first time he did this to me,” Voltain said hoping to keep her in the room for a conversation. He was longing for some kind of human contact where he didn’t get slashed at by the other party. “And I have not introduced myself yet, my name is Voltain. What book were you reading if I might ask?”

Julianne got to the point of where she was kneeling down to the floor and picking up the book. The piece of very thin silk she used as a book mark had fallen out onto the floor. She was in the middle of trying to find where she was in the book when she suddenly heard a soft voice coming from where the man was sitting. Her eyes looked up and gazed over to his form, now sitting straight up on the bed. Her tongue ran out over her lips as she looked down to the book he had spoken of.

"Uh, well..." Her voice trailed off. This was a little awkward. Really the first time in a very long time someone had taken an interest in her as a person. Julianne nodded her head a little before standing up and looking to his body sitting there. "It's about a woman name Verya who is trying to have a relationship with a vampire, named Einon. Silly book, you know. You...probably wouldn't be interested in it." Her shoulders gave a small shrug after placing the bag in the chair and coming over towards him. She did not sit on the bed, she simply stood at the side. "Voltain. Interesting name, cannot say I have heard it before. I am Julianne, Jules. Something along those lines."

Her teeth caught her lower lip, right hand reaching up and brushing her dark bangs from her eyes. "How is your eye? You were bleeding pretty badly for awhile. Wasn't sure if you were going to regain consciousness, but I guess your tossing and turning in the bed should've told me otherwise." Slowly, she lowered herself onto the end of the bed, silent for a moment before questioning him once more. "Who is 'he' if you do not mind me asking? You said it was not the first time he did that to you. I do not know who 'he' is."

Voltain laughed slightly at her remark about who this ‘he’ was. He purposefully didn’t mention the name to people he had met who saw his scar, Voltain didn’t even like opening up as much with most people but something about Julianne made him feel at ease.

“My eye feels much better then before, still stings though,” he said slightly shrugging it off “as for ‘he’, ‘he’ is my bother. His name is Sefirosu, sadistic, egotistical man I might add.”

Voltain removed his katana and balanced it against the wall; he then turned his back to Julianne and lifted up his shirt.

“I received that six years ago this day,” Voltain said “I then received the slash across my eye today when I met him again for the first time in those six years. What a great way to reconnect after all these years.”

Voltain began laughing at the end, but he couldn’t help but think of what he saw today.

“So what are you doing in this town?” he asked again trying to push those thoughts out of his head that just wouldn’t go away.

Her head bobbed forward a little in a nod, looking down at the book she had placed in her lap. The fingers on her left hand played with the binding lightly as he spoke about his brother. "I am sorry you have such a...difficult sibling. I cannot imagine what it would have been like growing up with him, assuming he has been like that his entire life and you two did, indeed, grow up together." Julianne did not know of his home life, so she was unsure. Of course, no one questioned another's home life right after meeting them.

When she lifted her eyes to look at him, he had turned his back to her and lifted up her shirt. Not only did her cheeks turn a light color of pink, just enough to be noticeable on her pale cheeks, she glanced down to her book once more. "I am sorry he is not a very good brother. I am sure you did not deserve that...scar along your back and the one over your eye." She was glad for a sudden change of subject after he stopped laughing, for she was never sure of what to say when someone was telling her a sad story or a bad memory.

"Uh, well, just passing through really. I do not have a family so I don't have to remain in one place for long." Julianne gave a small smile and a roll of her shoulders. "Merlin, the bartender downstairs, was the first person I met here. He's very nice." Her left hand reached up and pointed towards the tray of food. "He made some stew for you and there's tea, like I said, with some herbs in it that the healer offered. They should help you sleep."
