Arrow Back Alley 2975 (Science Fiction RP)

Back Alley OOC

Vaughn Black sat in the lobby of the Jerry Jackson. His ragged black and dark brown clothes and his shaggy, long black hair didn't do well in complementing the room around him. Brightly lit with polished metal. A fancy coffee table sat between two well maintained couches with a bright fluorescent light directly above it. The outer perimeter of the lobby was dotted with computers integrated into the walls and the rest of the ship.

The ship was currently docked in the outer atmosphere of Mars. The rest of the small crew, excluding the pilot EnRohbi and mechanic Rayalyn, was on the surface of the planet, gathering supplies and doing whatever personal business they had. The Jerry Jackson was on little business the last few weeks. No new jobs had come in, and the crew was forced to revert back to living off their Captain, William Fly's, personal funds; which were hefty, to say the least.

Vaughn leaned over to the small window beside him and peered down. He saw the massive docking station directly beside the ship, and just below, through the cracks between the Jerry Jackson and the docking station, he could follow the Davis Magnets down to the red surface, just outside the perimeter of the city Clerkis. Where the crew was.

---

Meanwhile, in another room of the Jerry Jackson, EnRohbi was doing a brief maintenance of the engine. This room was of much the same high quality polished metal as the lobby was.

The engine was a large metal obstruction in the center of the room when it was pulled up like this. It normally stuck, hidden away under the floor. But to be inspected it had to be disconnected (An easy job) and pulled up with the engine room's crane.

Noting very few problems with the working parts, En scrubbed his short black hair with his left hand and walked away from the engine. He grabbed a pack of cigarettes from his coat pocket, drooped over a chair and hastily lit one in his mouth.

"How's it look, kid?", he asked the brunette, Rayalyn Dentin, who was standing beside the engine, watching him the whole time. Without waiting for her response, he went one, "I need to get off this fucking ship." He lamented, "All of this time here, no girls... This engine is starting to look like a cunt." He grinned to himself at his own humor. Humor?

"And I'm stuck looking after it with someone young enough to be my daughter." He thought for a moment. Not a moment, his mind was moving too fast. He didn't know exactly how long it was, but not long enough for Ray to respond, so it couldn't have been long. He scoffed to himself, "If I had a daughter at 12."

---

William stepped casually out of the bar, with one heavy crate in his arms. He was a tall, strongly built man with long brown hair. He kept it well combed now; not like before. He was wearing his usual dark green work pants with black work boots. Black trenchcoat over everything.

His vehicle, a large all-terrain vehicle that resembling a hovercraft, but with 4 large wheels, sat idly by the side of the busy city road. William stepped to it and dropped his wooden crate of goods on the back of the vehicle. He then strolled to the front and climbed into the passenger side. Juan was in the driver's seat. "We need to get back to the ship, Juan", William said casually, not meaning to have it come across as an order. Not that Juan would follow anything not explicitly designated an order. He cocked his head to look at the short man with muscles larger than his; but his hair red and cut to the point it almost didn't exist.

---

"I want a drink, Billy", he said condescendingly. Tempting his luck against his superior.

---

William sighed and held himself for a moment. He considered himself a kind man; but a kind man with a short fuse. After a moment, "We need to pick up Jeff anyway.. He paused for a moment to give Juan his opportunity to smirk, silently gloating about getting his own way. "Come on, let's go", William commanded, and he sat still as Juan flicked the engine on and drove down the road. Attracting the attention of all sorts of city dwellers, who weren't accustomed to knowing anything that rode on wheels even still existed.

Mouse didn't even bother to reply, she had learned soon after she arrived, not even to listen to Enrohbi's ramblings unless it had to do with weaponry or the ship's controls.

"She'll be fine, but if we let the engine sit like this for too long, I'll have to tune her up again"

Wiping a grease smudge from her cheek the small statured woman lo oked a little raunchy. Wearing a sports bra and cover-alls, that were torn and greasy from several adventures into the depths of the mechanical parts of this ship. If her hair wasn't always covered with a bandana and her curves strapped in and hidden making her look like a boy, Mouse wouldn't look half bad. "Take off I'm sick of your whining, I'll take care of the rest here."

Giving En the finger she moved for the winch controls, one she didn't appretiate being called a kid, not did she believe she needed to be watched, despite her age she was a wiz with the mechanical. As she had stated in the past she could put the engine back together with her eyes closed and her back to the core.

"Hey... Give me some more absinthe." Jeff didn't usually drink heavy drinks like absinthe, so he was a little drunk even after two but he was still thinking clearly. He thought. The bartender set the drink on the counter with a loud hollow thump, and the man grabbed at it quickly. Jeff sipped on his drink and looked around. The whole bar was made of what seemed like wood but was actually a ceramic-plastic hybrid material. It didn't feel like wood - it was much too smooth - but it sounded and looked the part. "So this is Mars, huh? If the whole planet is as good as these drinks, I might have a new home. It's better than that shit hole Earth already."

Drink drained and feeling light-headed, Jeff stood. He braced himself against the stool and scruffed his light-brown hair which was long in the front and short all around. He blinked, and shuffled outside to wait for William who he knew would be coming to get him soon. As much as he liked Mars so far, he liked the feeling of home even better. Even if that home didn't have drinks that good. But the captain was rich as pirates go and kept the ship stocked and updated, so what did he have to complain about?

Within minutes, the familiar sound of the only vehicle in entire town resonated among the buildings. Juan and William quickly pulled up in front of Jeff and he hopped on the back. "'Bout time. I just about went in for another drink." He said impatiently.

William looked over to Jeff as he climbed onboard the trailer. "Hold your horses there, kid", the fifty-five year old Captain said casually, "Juan wants a drink."

Almost excitedly, Juan hopped out of the driver's seat of the trailer and strolled himself into the tavern. He looked around the artificially rustic room and settled himself into a stool across the bartender.

"Scotch." Was all he said. With certainty in his voice. He tried to make it clear, every time he spoke to strangers, he was in no mood to get fucked around.

The scotch was delivered to him, quarter of a pint glass filled. "Out of shot glasses", the bartender explained sympathetically. "I haven't seen you around, what's your business here?" he asked, while watching Juan casually sip his drink.

"Here with my crew. On some business", Juan explained.

The bartender nodded and sighed, sarcastically understanding. "I see. And that business would be legal", he paused for a second, "I suppose?"

"Damn straight", Juan snapped, nearly shouting at the man. "What kind of dumbass has to be involved with the sort of trade that these space gangs go through?"

The bartender paused what he was doing for a moment and glared at Juan. Completely unamused. He leaned in close, grabbed Juan by the collar and pulled him close, just close enough so no one else would be able to hear. "Listen to me, you fucking Back Alley scum. We don't want you in here. Leave your drink." He paused for a moment, staring at Juan with his one eye. "Go."

Juan put a friendly smile on his face, "Whatever you say", he grabbed the bartender's wrist and forced it off his collar. "Friend", he added sarcastically. He strolled away from the bartender and out the door.

Outside, he found William watching him curiously. "What happened?" William demanded, "I was about to go in with yo--" He cut himself off when he saw the smirk on Juan's face. "You son of a bitch", he cursed at himself and did a complete 360, jumping back into the passenger seat of the trailer. "Ship. Now!" He snapped at Juan, who was taking his time getting back into the driver's seat.

Juan sped away from the bar.

"How many goddamn times do I have to tell you how expensive your toys are?" William screamed at Juan, over the thundering noise of the ancient, gas driven trailer.

Juan shrugged.

"They aren't something to just throw away because some asshole in a bar gives you a funny look!"

Juan grinned over at William, arrogance coating his face. "He was going to turn us in. Little Twitch back there blew our cover."

William sighed, though it couldn't have been heard over the engine. Cursing profusely to everyone within his yelling range, he leaned over and kicked Juan in the shin; almost causing a crash.

---

EnRohbi blinked. Surprised... No, shocked at the language from Ray. "I don't care how disgusting you think I am, Kid", he began, calmly, "But you know as well as anyone else on this ship that I outrank every part of you", this may not have been technically true, as they were both mechanics... EnRohbi just was in charge of piloting the ship too, "You shouldn't be mouthing off to me".

EnRohbi wouldn't have normally been particularly annoyed at the remarks from Ray, especially since he would have been likely to say something completely deserving of retaliation; he probably already did. It could have been a mixture of the drugs it was on, and the fact he didn't get to leave the ship to go visit Mars on this visit, but he was abnormally irritable.

Repressing the urge to kick Juan in the back of the head, no, not doing it for fear of losing his balance and falling to the dirt, Jeff sat back and tried to keep from losing his lunch. Already light-headed and half-drunk, he was sure he couldn't take much more of this. ...And he was right. He very quickly leaned over the side of the vehicle and puked.

"Fuck you, Juan!" Jeff yelled as loud as he could at the back of Juan's head then promptly coughed up more vomit and spat it over the side. Then, when his head cleared a little more, he punched Juan in the head hard enough to get his point across: Don't fuck with me.

Screw him. I'll deal with him later.

The thrill of the chase! She was enjoying being the prey, unfortunately if she screwed up there was a possibility of having her brain smeared on the Martian ground by the COPs' rifle arm. With each step, she processed the next in her head. There was no way in hell she'd be able to stand up to them, even with the stolen goods strapped to her back. The only good they were serving at the moment was to protect her ass by being carried in a large black case. Surprisingly, the military grade weapons seemed to be light enough for her to keep a good pace. The COPs weren't as fast as they were diabolically deadly, of course. Audi's chocolaty brown dreadlocks tumbled about as she hurried towards the Martian docking station. Her plan was simple; infiltrate the government base, jack the weapons, get to the jeep-like vehicle, arrive at the pod station and leave on their ship. Much to her dismay, her partners in crime decided to bail last minute. Leaving her to run for herself to the pod station. Whether the ship was still there or not, she didn't know. All the young Jamaican girl could do was hope that there was low security and a convenient ship she could 'hitch' a ride on.

The COPs were tossing threats and advice at her. Things like, "Stop running!" or "Drop the weapon!" or "You're under arrest!" Like she cared! And after going through all that trouble to get the gun, as if she was about to drop and leave it. Hah. No. This bad boy was going home with Mama.

Thunk!

Ooooor not.

The sickening feel immediately struck her in the stomach as she fell directly flat on her face. Very soon, she heard the heavy steps of the COPs behind her and, as they were robots, they looked as if they hadn't been chasing a wanted fugitive for twenty minutes. Looking before her, she noticed she had made it to the station. "Lucky me." she though to herself, pushing the COPs' voices out of her head. While standing, she unstrapped the weapon from her back, which was immediately taken from her by the closest COP. As they began their spiel on how she was under arrest, Tripp got her feet, turning towards them and laughed, "Listen bays, I'd love to stay and get arrested by ye, but I've got mare important 'tings to do, okay?"

Boldly, she pushed her feet off the ground and sped off into the building, where, without hesitation, she slipped into a closing pod. She wasn't sure if they had seen her enter the pod, assuming they did, she tried to enjoy the quick ride up. Sweat beads rolled down her dark skin. Pulling a rag out of the back pocket of the very sad looking jean shorts, she wiped her forehead. She also wore a yellow bandanna tied around her chest and a pair of black, untied boots. Several bracelets hung around her wrists and a simple chain necklace around her neck. Luckily, no one in the pod with her seemed to care she was there. Less of a commotion, the better.

"Those ungrateful bastards! How dare they leave me like that! Especially after all I've done for them! Next time I fucking see them I'll..." her thoughts trailed off as she began to think of interesting ways to end their stupid lives. Mostly the life of her cousin, Lyle. After saving his ass countless times and now he pulls this on her. The pod doors opened and she wandered out, still plotting several deaths. With a look of anger on her face, Audi glanced at the ships about her and quickly chose the one to the far right of where her pod arrived. Now to get into it...

Mouse fought the urge to mock him by making hand puppets. Instead she rolled her eyes turning her sights back to the lift controls. With a loud clatter of chain and tackle the winch lowered the engine into its vacuum sealed compartment. Once at a certain depth she halted the winch and followed the piece of equipment down into the hole, with her agile form she was able to squeaze herself easily between the compartment wall and engine. Connecting manually the second and tertiary lubrication and fuel lines she was able to save them several linier feet of hose and tubing making the system more efficient.

Hanging by her knees at the very edge of the hole she pulled her multitool from her pocket as well as a diagnostics scanner, testing the connections and making adjustments before pulling herself out. On her way back to the lift controls she tossed the tools into an open drawer. The two items clattered with the many other bits and wrenches and other such thingamagigs that only those knowlegable with their uses knew what to call them.

After lowering the engine fully into place she unlatches the lift and seals the doors. As soon as the doors close the vacuum initiates and Mouse's job is nearly done. Still leaving all her tools and the large lift to put back where they were to be stored, all the while ignoring Enrohbi and his irritating attitude.

Keeping track of days on a ship was a bit of a hassle, loosing count every so often then having to ball park it to so many weeks, months. Every day, waking up to see the same surrounds. Same scent, same atmosphere; many tired of it, but Shiina was anything but sick of this massive metal craft.

Since the ship had docked, she took an extra bit of sleep, which she so sorely needed. Her slender build was tangled in the sheets of the bed, her hand by her head which was tilted slightly to the side, her hair like a crimson web over the pillow. Her fair skin looked nearly pallid against the clashing black wife beater tank top that was a bit too small and lifted every so often when she moved. She even slept in her own baggy cargo pants, black but worn, particularly at the knees and the end of the pant leg where her combat boots caught the fabric.

Her eyes opened a little, taking in the blur of the room she spent a fair amount of her days in. When the vision became clear, she sat up and yawned, stretching her arms above her head, getting to her feet. Immediately, the question of if the crew was back entered her mind, which could only be answered by looking.

Slipping on her combat boots, she moved out of the room into the hall and turned, walking forward, her destination, the lobby. Someone would be in there to let her know, and if not, she could wait until someone showed.

She strode into the lobby, cringing only for a moment at the lights. Her eyes moved right to him and she blinked slowly, taking her steps forward a bit more to the couch, sitting down, crossing one leg over the other.

“I’m supposing they haven’t come back yet, right?” She looked over to Vaughn, her green eyes calm.

((Reminder to people: Post your character information in the OOC thread. I know I'm a hypocrite 'cause I haven't done it yet. But I will sometime; probably today.))

EnRohbi smirked and sauntered out of the engine room. "Don't forget to store the engine again", he called back, "If we tear off the back half of the ship by trying to take off without an engine in place", he paused for a moment to try and think of something to say, "Then I'm going to make you make up for all the female pleasures I've missed on this visit to Mars." Satisfied with himself; he left.

The Engine Room was off the docking bay; the only door to get on and off the ship. He stepped out into another brightly lit room; but this one was bigger. The Docking Bay was the largest room on the ship. In the center of it was their only real weaponry: EnRohbi's old racing ship. It was custom fit with weapons and kept in top form. Only really had a seat for one person, but there was room enough behind that seat for several other people to stand. It was a beautiful thing. Long and slim; aerodynamic and with the strongest heat-shields available for when races would have taken him into an atmosphere. He'd named her; long ago. But he had to change it so many times to avoid arrest and smuggle his way into races, even after being barred, that by the time he joined the Jerry Jackson (12 years ago), he thought it best to keep her unnamed.

They weren't a cautious ship, by any means. The large ramp leading from the Docking Bay to the outside -- currently the docking satellite -- was wide open. The similarity was uncanny though. If someone didn't know better, the docking satellite was part of the ship. The same high quality, polished metals and the same brightly lit, large rooms.

But what's this?
EnRohbi smirked at what he saw. A young girl, a young hott girl. Standing outside the Docking Bay... Staring at him. Taking a joint from his pocket, he lit it as he walked towards her.

---

William laughed out loud at Jeff's attack. On the surface, any sensible person would have been terrified that the jerking movement of the trailer his punch had caused would cause a major suspicion of their business. Especially if there were COPs in the vicinity. But William was too laid back for this. This was literally, just a stroll through the city for him. No reason to ever be worried about the consequences.

Juan didn't seem bothered by Jeff either. He just kind of shrugged him off.

Speeding up a bit, Juan was making his very best attempt at getting back to the ship as quickly as possible. Honestly, he was a bit worried about still being on the surface when the bartender in that last bar found his little gift.

---

Vaughn peered up and smiled at Shiina. "Mouse and En were working on the engine", he stated with a certain satisfaction, "But everyone else is still down below", pausing, "Not for long though." There was a certain sense of disappointment in that. Whatever. It was a big ship with a small crew, his coveted privacy wasn't exactly hard to come by. Soundproof walls, hard industrial strength doors... The walls blocked wireless signals so EnRohbi couldn't get his jollies by setting up cameras. It was a good ship. Few Back Alley crews were so privileged.

He stood up to look at Shiina head on, "How was your nap?" he asked kindly.

Audi paused for a moment, not moving. The ship seemed well enough off for her to climb aboard. Although, she had been a stow-away a good amount of times and not all ships were that easy to sneak onto. Each was different. Each crew was different. Hell, she wasn't ever sure if the crew was in there or not. Hopefully not. She blinked both forest green eyes at the ship, considering the variety of ways she could get aboard without being noticed or seen as a threat...

A male sauntered off of the ship at that second. He had an intriguing look about him, to Audi. Ah... he was heading her way. She placed both hands on her hips and let a lascivious grin creep onto her dark features. This was her way in. Ideas were popping in and out of her head. Suddenly, her mind was clear. She sniffed the air, smelling that familiar and greatly appreciated scent of Cannabis sativa. Her smile grew and without a hint of hesitation she spoke up, "I suspect ye'll be sharin' 'dat with me, hmm?" If she played her cards right, this would be much easier than she had originally thought. But she had to get on that ship quickly. She was still wanted for theft and standing out in the open was not the greatest idea she had ever had.
