Zani was currently walking out of her classroom, English being her last subject. Throughout the whole lesson, the young woman had ignored everything her teacher was saying, only finding interest in the doodles of various badly drawn characters on her paper which happened to be her assignment. Needless to say, the teacher wasn't that happy about it...
Zani shrugged as she made her way to her destination outside of the college which happened to be the cherry blossom tree. A smile spread across her face as she rested her dark ocean blue eyes on her friend, Kurai, standing under it, waiting patiently for her. They had been friends for a while now, though Zani couldn't remember how long. Though they fought over many different things, sometimes for days on end, they were very close, or so Zani thought. She moved quietly to where he stood, nodding her head slightly in greating. "Hey."

Lifting his head up, he gave a brief smile to Zani; before resuming his normal casual expression.
“Are you ready to go?” He already knew she was, but it was polite none the less; although some might argue it was more polite to say “Hi” first. Pushing off the tree he dusted himself of the fine bark dust, and began walking to the street side. He knew she would follow, and despite if she said she wasn’t ready he would have still left; not wanting to be held up with something out of his control. They had been friends for a very long time, and you would think he would act with more reverence to her, but Kurai was never one for unneeded pleasantries; getting him to acknowledge your existence was remarkable, getting him respect you like he did Zani was rare. “Would you like to go and have some coffee and then go to my house?” |

She nodded at his question despite him already walking away from the tree and heading for the sidewalk along the street. She followed him close behind, though far enough back to give them a few feet of personal space. By now, she was used to his rather...different personality that could only be described as...well...Kurai.
"Ah, coffee sounds...lovely," she stated lightly as they walked a little further down the sidewalk, taking a left across the street at one of the intersections. This seemed to be the usual routine it had been every Friday afternoon: coffee at their favorite coffee house, then off to Kurai's house they went. 'So routine...' Within the next five minutes, they had reached the coffee house she had grown so accustomed to, another smile lifting at her lips.

The walk to the coffee house was rather uneventful since Kurai was not much of a talker, and Zani would never press him to talk or open up more than he did normally; which wasn’t much. Walking to the counter he ordered his drink first, not bothering to ask what she would order; nor letting her go first. The clerk took too long to reach for the money so Kurai left it on the counters; he already knew its cost and tax so he moved out of the way for Zani to order before sitting. Zani was his happiness reincarnated her answers always much more peppy than his; which depending on how you looked at it could be diminishing her since he could be pretty dark. After they got their orders they sat down at a booth, Kurai sitting facing the door, parallel to Zani; rather than beside her. Taking a sip of the hot green tea with extra sugar, he set it down quietly closing his eyes. “As usual they put 5 ml grams of sugar rather than 10” he said calmly. He didn’t need answer for this, or condenses it was simply a fact. “So what knew Zani, or better yet what not knew since it will no doubt have a longer list” pausing to take another sip he continued his point “Life’s mundane routines are boring me, I no longer need classes; the teacher just repeats half the things she says anyways. What we need is something perceivably more extraordinary.”

Zani ordered plain black coffe right after Kurai had ordered his tea, pulling out, more litterally than inteded, the exact change from her pocket and grabbing the steaming cup placed in front of her. She then sat across from her dear friend, pulling out a plastic bag filled nearly to the brim with sugar cubes. There was no way she was drinking straight black coffee, and they never added enough sugar, so she figured she might as well order it plain and add her own.
"Everything changes every day, Kurai. You of all people should know that." Anyone in the coffee house could see the difference in the two beings besides the obvious gender difference. Kurai had a darker, more serious personality while Zani was more carefree and blunt with some things. The way they moved and their facial expressions only added to the eeriness of the differences. 'They do say opposites attract...' "Hmm, life seems extraordinary enough to me; perhaps Kurai should be more open with others than closed in." Zani was just making a simple statement, but there was a possibility it would strike some sort of nerve within her friend. "Excitement is what you seek, perhaps? Or something out of the ordinary that you seem to put yourself through..."

Kurai study her words carefully, leaving out what ever tone or lack of tone that had accompanied it. He did think of himself of closed in, but who could blame him…Paddling out of the self-destructive thought he sipped his tea. “I don’t mean just excitement, but purpose; direction” he was never one for random unexplainable occurrences, no he want a reason to back that idea or act. As for if things changed It was true that things did change, but it seemed that those changes however shocking they may be never really made a impact on the overall pond of the world.
“Also I’d avoid trying to psycho analyze me, you know I don’t like it when you spin questions like that” most people wouldn’t know what he meant, but he knew she did, she knew that he hated when people tried to help him find meaning to his own questions and pleas. He might ask a question, but it was never to get it him a step closer to some kind of nirvana; no it was simply to flower the topic and see if new concepts emerge, that are not founded on feelings. Taking a longer sip he, looked at her over his cup, eyeing her unthreateningly; even though she couldn’t see his eyes well she probably knew he was looking at her and contemplating what she said still, and the fact that he was still thinking about it was what disturbed him the most. "So what was diffrent toady" |

"Hmm, yes, I apologize," she stated blandly, though she was rather serious. It was just the way she was, always analyzing others and making statements based on what she could study. Maybe that's why she always goofed off in English...everyone bored her to no end, everyone being so serious, yet idiotic to the subjects given out...It almost seemed devastating to know that the world was becoming such a wreck, the lack of order more evident than ever.
"So what saw different today" Zani plopped a handfull of sugar cubes into her coffee, stiring them with a spoon she so happened to be carying in her pocket. "I've actually decreased my sugar intake by...this much." She pulled out a small handfull of cubes from the plastic baggy to sow Kurai before plopping them into her coffee. "Needless to say, it's nerve-wracking.... In other news, the economy seems to be healthy and alive, though crime rate has gone up by 3 percent." She stired the nearly thick mixture and sighed as she sat the small spoon down beside her bag of small white cubes of sugar. Taking a sip of the mixture, she sighed, some of her blue-black hair falling from the blood red ribbon that held it up.

Finishing his small cup of tea Kurai set it down carefully on the saucer, withdrawing his hand from the cup and folding it neatly in his lap while he waited for Zani. He had nothing to say about what she said, to him it only strengthened his point, showing that many if not all of daily life is compromised of unimportant things. One thing they could agree on, is that they both enjoyed sugar; Zani a little more than him though.
Keeping silent for nearly a minute he watched her, knowing she was just as smart as him; even if she put it to use in defending optimism. “Are you coming over today, I would like to finish our previous discussion, but it might be inappropriate for outside closed walls.” He knew she was coming, but he felt he needed to reiterate it. “Also, I believe the score is tied; let’s try and wrap it up tonight.” He didn’t care to recall who started the tradition, but for a while now they had kept track of major heated debated between him and her; this was one of them. He had been ahead, but she had caught up; how he still didn’t understand. |
