Final Fantasy IV OOC
~Cecil~ As the dawn broke in the mighty kingdom of Baron it would find it's King already awake, gazing out from his humble quarters to the mighty castle below, and the city in the distance. He was not surprised to find that he wasn't the only one who greeted the rising sun, the castle was alive with activity in preparations for the guests soon to arrive. Cecil wondered if they truly understood the upcoming event's significance or merely wished to splurge on free ale and meat at the celebration. Pushing these thoughts from his mind, he gently slipped past his sleeping wife, Rosa, and made his way down the cold hallways towards his throne room. Once there, he was greeted by his advisers, who began telling him of mundane things like costs of the festivities and taxes, making him wish he'd stayed in bed. ~Tilanya~ As the dawn broke over Baron, it would find another soul already awake, but this one far different than that of the commoners and soldiers in the castle. Deep in the forests south west of the town proper, close to the wild chocobo grounds, sat a humble cottage with smoke billowing from it's chimney. Inside sat an old woman, preparing an herbal tea upon the roaring fire. Tilanya Arcanum, one of the more powerful and feared summoners ever to hail from the village Myst. Four years ago, she was the most feared and respected, that was until a young child named Rydia burst onto the scene. Word had reached Tilanya that she had mastered summoned monsters that no other human had even dreamed of, and even lived in the monsters in their land. Tilanya could not confirm this, though she had tried. As her tea finally bubbled upon the hearth, she glanced out her own window, spying the castle of baron in the distance. She hadn't set foot in the town proper or with the castle walls, but her one contact with the outside world told her that lady Rydia would be arriving in but a few days for some festival. As Tilanya poured her tea she made sure that all her travel gear was arranged. Once the morning's mist had dissipated she would grab one of the many chocobo that lived not far away and ride there, seeking Rydia out among the crowds. It had been years since they had last met, and Tilanya doubted that the young summoner would even remember her.

North of the castle, near the river but a good distance from the travel worn bridge, Ary stretched and roused himself out of his slumber. Nestled next to him was the bulk of his mount and friend Rigyry. The chocobo had chosen to snuggle up during the night when it had gotten colder than usual.
Ary smiled and patted his over sized bird before getting up and grabbing a towel and some soap from his traveling pack. Being so close to the river had it’s advantages. One was fresh water and the other was a place to wash both himself and his clothes. Although it was understandable that he’d get dirty on the road he decided last night, when he cleared the last of the mountains, that he’d need to wash up if he was going to impress any clients at the festival. He’d left his armor and sword behind with Rigyry and once he got to the edge he simply swam in clothed. When he and his clothes were soaked he disrobed under the water and just enjoyed the feel of the water on his skin before he went strait to work scrubbing the dirt off himself and scrubbing the travel stains out of his clothes. It was well into the morning when he finally finished and left the clothes out on a rock to dry. While he floated in the water, he found it hard not to think back to younger and better days. Before Zeromus and the death of Baron’s true king. Those were good days. Much to his surprise, memories of swimming in this very spot came back to him. Back in those days Ary and his older brothers and sisters would sneak away from the castle to swim in the rivers. They had to mind the current and watch out for monsters that liked to stalk the forest, but when they reached the water their cares just floated away into nothing. Other memories came back too. Ones of the war and the deaths of his family either in attacks or while in service to the fake king. He suppressed those memories with a shudder. It had been so long since he’d been home, but the memories still stung like fresh wounds. He didn’t want to be back here. He wanted to be anywhere but here. Life and a lack of money had just forced him back here. The carnival offered the chance of work. With airships becoming more and more common the land bound caravans were dying out. Ary had made a decent living three years ago by protecting those caravans. With all the common routes turning to the air, Ary and Rigyry were out of jobs. The only things that came his way were the crazy explorers with crackpot theories and no money or the jobs that only needed his and not his constant companion. Ary wasn’t about to leave his chocobo behind. Most times it was Rigyry’s speed that saved the day, not Ary’s sword. With his clothes sun dried and his skin thoroughly pruned, Ary climbed out of the water and dressed. It would be an hour to get to Baron and probably another to get past the guards and traffic. He found Rigyry awake at the camp, scratching the ground for any roots or greens. “Don’t worry pal,” Ary patted Rigyry’s beak reassuringly, “There’ll be plenty of gryshal at the fair. If I’m lucky I’ll be able to eat too.”

Memories of the days when she was young flooded back to Rydia as she made her way to where her old friends now ruled. She had come on foot for a good reason. She had needed to think. Many things had happened to her just a few years ago. Deep green eyes looked up to the sky as she stopped and stared. Would Cecil and Rosa be happy to see her? Would Edge be there? A light pink blush covered her pale cheeks as she thought of Edge. The female missed that ninja more than he knew. Long green locks of hair were blown slightly by the wind.
Rydia found herself at the entrance to Baron. She was greeted by the guards who kindly let her pass. She had not been here since years ago. She wore a deep green strapless top and a skirt to match that. She still wore the jewel in her hair like she had back then. Of course, she had grown more. When she was nineteen this all had ended. Now she was twenty one and ready to see her friends together. She enjoyed speaking to people around her. Things were great today and she was loving the atmosphere. Green hues thought they had spotted that white hair she remembered so fondly. Was Cecil out and about? She saw it again, but it was someone else. Rydia sighed softly and she continued to speak with others... [[sorry its so short]]

Slender fingers touched the side of the castle slightly. The stone was cool and it made her smile in just the slightest bit. Green eyes got wide when she spotted Cecil running out of a door. "Cecil!" The summoner ran over to him and she embraced the Paladin turned King. It felt nice to see him. Of course, he was probably wondering why she hadnt come to the last festival despite being invited. Truth was she had been busy rebuilding the Myst. She wanted it to be a nice place for all to live like it had been before Kain and Cecil destroyed it and killed her mother.
A spasm of pain racked through her body, but Rydia was good at hiding it. She had hit it for so long why bring it up now? She still hated Cecil deep down, but she had buried that harbored hate long ago when she had visited the Eidolons. They taught her to let it go and thats one way she had become more powerful. Rydia had forgiven Cecil long ago. She pulled away from the Paladin. "Its so great to see you!" She was smiling now. She hadnt fully smiled like this in years.

Ary, now astride Rigyry, dashed through the same forests that had sheltered him the previous night. Noon was fast approaching and Ary knew that he was already going to late for the start of the festivities. It had taken longer than he though to wash up and pack up his gear. At least now he looked like a professional.
He’d taken the time to polish his armor and great sword before setting out and now both gleamed in the sun. Despite the protests from Rigyry he’d also managed to get a saddle on the chocobo. Normally he rode without it, but the all important professional look demanded a properly outfitted mount. As they broke the tree line, Ary could see something that he definitely wasn’t expecting. It was an older woman in mage’s robes riding a white chocobo of all things. He’d heard of the birds and had seen one from afar years ago. To see one tamed and ridden was a sight. Ary clicked his tongue twice and held onto his reins tightly as Rigyry sped up to cover the distance between them. Ary couldn’t be sure, but it seemed like the white chocobo was the slower of the two. With their rarity and elusiveness Ary would have assumed that the whites were faster. As he came up alongside the woman he called over to her, genuinely interested in just who she was, “Hail. Don’t see many travelers on foot or claw these days. If I might ask, who are you traveler and from where do you come?”

"It is great to see you!" Cecil replied, holding the young summoner in a fierce embrace. "Come, we have some major catching up to do, and Rosa does as well." He said, taking the summoner gently by the hand and leading her through the winding passages towards his private room. Rosa, if he was right, was still in their room, probably freshening up before greeting the people. "The official festival begins tomorrow, and everyone will be thrilled that you're here." Cecil said as they moved down the hallway. He almost sounded like a child greeting a favorite aunt with his ramblings. ((OOC: I'll post for Tilanya tomorrow. Busy day.))

Rydia smiled as Cecil led her through the passages towards their room. "How is Rosa?" The white mage had been her friend after they had met. It would be good to talk to her again. Cecil hadnt changed much. He looked older, but he was still the same Paladin he had been back then. Her green eyes looked around the castle as they walked. She couldnt remember the last time she had been in these walls. "I cant wait until tomorrow." Rydia looked at Cecil and with a blush on her face she asked, "Is Edge going to be here?"

Tilanya hadn't expected to see anyone else on her journey either, and most certainly didn't expect anyone to actually converse with her. She wasn't much for pleasant conversations, but she was also curious as to this warriors presence, though she guessed he sought employment from the upcoming festival. And that she could use to her advantage. "Hail and well met traveler, my name is Tilanya. I hail from the village Myst, and I would now ask the same of you." She replied, keeping her mount at a comfortable pace. She took in his appearance, as well as the chocobo he rode. It seemed like a very capable steed, muscle in all the right places with little to no fat. He cared for it, better than some stables do in certain places. Quote:
"Yes, Edge is supposed to be here tomorrow, though I wouldn't be surprised to see him here later today." Cecil replied, a slight smirk growing on the king's face. "You know, he was rather sad you didn't make it last year, he'll be overjoyed to see you again, as we all are." He said, just before opening the door to his private room to find Rosa sitting before the large mirror preparing her hair, her back to the two. "You'll never guess who's here." Cecil said, his voice holding a bit of playfulness to it. "Tell Edge that I'll see him once I'm done with my duties." She responded, not even batting an eyelash as she fussed with her long golden locks. She truthfully didn't have very many royal duties, especially with the festival upon them, but she considered her hair and appearance a royal duty in and of itself. "Turn around love." Cecil responded, and when she caught sight of Rydia her expression, a mixture of shock and elation, made the king laugh in spite of himself. She however didn't seem to pay him attention, and leaped from her seat to embrace Rydia in a great big hug. "I'm so happy to see you Rydia!" She said as the hug continued, her mind at a loss for just about anything else.

Rydia felt her cheeks turn pink when he said Edge would be here. She had missed the ninja. When Rosa turned and ran to her she smiled. As the summoner was hugged, she giggled. "I'm glad to see you too Rosa." She smiled bigger as she broke the hug Rosa had her in. "You look good Rosa." Envy was a rare thing for Rydia to feel, but oh was she envious of Rosa's looks. She would kill to be as pretty as she was. "Do you need help with your hair of anything?" Rydia asked, tilting her head to the side just a small bit.
