Shard had been standing against that wall for a little while. At first, she'd searched on the ground for the key, a task made all the more difficult by her blindness and currently bound state. Having been to the pit on numerouse occasions, Shard was used to the ruitine of searching for the key. On Good days, she would find it easily, unlock herself, and move on with pit life as usual. On most days she would be unable to find it before one of the other inmates found it, and she would proceed to steal it from them after beating some sense into them. On Bad days, She would be in the process of taking it from one of the inmates, but they would drop it again before she could, starting the process over again. On extreamly bad days, like today, They would drop it into the pile of sand in the middle of the pit. Relying on her ears mainly to find the key, when it fell into the sand, she could not hear its location. The sound of metal against stone never reached her and so she leaned back against the wall, her wrists still secured tightly behind her back, waiting. Right now she longed for nothing more then a good nap. Normaly she would do like most pit dwellers, and alight to one of the half finished cells. They were fitted with the iron bars and sliding doors like the cells above, but most weren't furnished, and some weren't even dug out all the way. The handcuffs, when removed from ones wrists, could be used to secure the sliding door shut, and thus keep ones self safe from the other prisoners, guards, or anything else that might pray on you while you slept. It was dangerouse to enter the caverns of the pit while still bound. The majority of the prisoners there were violent by nature, and very, very bored. The combination was not generally a pretty one. So Shard Stood in the entrence of the pit, waiting for someone else to either be dropped down, or to venture out of the caverns or cells, so that she might coax them into giving her the key. The whir of the lift allerted her to a new arrival, and from the sound of the fall, they were new to the pit. She heard the newcomer spit the sand from its mouth, and move against the opposite wall. With a slight push of her arms, she began to walk away from the wall, and towards him. Over the years, She had learned to step very quietly, her movements were nearly inaudible even to her. If she didn't have to hear her footsteps, she could focus on everyone elses. "Are you new here?" She asked, facing towards the new prisoner. She knew the answer to her own question, but couldn't think how best to sum up this person. She would quickly find out which approach she would use to get the key from him, even though it wasn't yet in his possession. From the light of the lift shaft it was obviouse to any onlooker that she was blindfolded, and her wrists secured behind her back. She wore a white tanktop, that thankfully showed no sign of the bandages beneath it, and black pants. There was no set prison outfit, but prisoners generally wore simple garb such as T-Shirts, tanktops, and jeans. |

Marcus almost stared as he watched the raven turn back into the woman that had ran into his cell. He'd never actually seen a demon shape shift before. Any inmate of hazard that could do it would have had the ability blocked in case they could make use of it to escape. It was quite a sight to see muscle, bone, skin and feathers all shifting as she made the transformation from bird to woman. The grin she gave him once she was done could have given any mischievous child a run for their money. And then she spoke. The grin should have warned him, instead the first barrage of questions and comments took him by surprise. "Demon? no.." he had time to almost stutter out before she dived under the bunk again and continued. "Uh I'm Marcus." he said as she started fishing through he pockets of the guard uniform. "Do you have any idea what those guards will do to you if they catch you?" Just as he finished the sentence Jinx found the key ring, effectively cutting him off from further talking as she exclaimed her delight. his only reaction to having the uniform shoved at him however was to stare at her in disbelieve for a moment. "Are you bloody insane? Not telling the guards you were in here when they rushed past was bad enough, If I put that on I'll probably be shot!" He didn't move the uniform though, it just sat on his knees as he sat there stunned that jinx would even think about escape. Of course she hadn't been locked up in hazard for years, didn't know the futility of trying to escape. But then she had obviously evaded the initial attempts to lock her up after she arrived and those keys would probably make getting around fairly easy. The uniform might confuse the guards a little as well so long as they didn't get a good look at his face. Without realising it he found himself putting the uniform on and holding a little hope that it might work. "So, what's the plan then?" he said as he pulled the shirt on.

As the shadow began to move towards him, he tried to crawl away, but gave up pretty soon. Though only the gods might know who dwelled here, Loker was just too tired to try and get away. And where would he run to anyway? Running blindly through the caves would be a grave mistake. When the figure appeared from the shadows, and he saw it was a girl, bound and blindfolded, he released his breath, relieved. It was only a harmless girl. But Loker immediately frowned. Then why is she bound and blindfolded? She was surrounded with an aura of danger. Loker had learned to trust his instincts during his hunts, and his instincts now screamed, yelled at him, to get away, that this was a predator. Silently, she walked up to him –though he didn’t try to get away anymore, he pressed his back against the wall, almost wishing he could disappear in it- and asked: “Are you new here?” The tension built up by her swift, silent walk and her deadly aura, was shattered by the question. Despite the situation, Loker could barely hold his nervous laughter. Quite the anti-climax, he said to himself. “Yes, I am new here. New in the Pit, but also in Hazard.” He hesitated. Clearly, she must know this place quite well, how else could she survive being blindfolded and all in here. An ally like her could be most useful to him. Now more than ever, he wished he had his weapons with him. He felt helpless without them, and he hated it. “And you are…?” he asked.

At Marcus’ question, she gave him a brilliant grin and shrugs. “Hell if I know.” Her tone was care-free and worry-free. Things always worked out for her. This time would be no different. She also handed Marcus the keys as a guard would have them, not a ‘prisoner’. She coiled up the rope trying to think how best to hide that when a movement from the cell mate brought her attention back to him. His silence had almost made her forget him entirely. She stood and poked him on the shoulder roughly. “Hey! You.” When he turned to eye her suspiciously, she shuddered and shifted instantly into her full demon form. She stood fully 8 feet tall and an obscene mix of bird and human. Her wings were folded in this confined space, but would have reached an impressive 12 feet. Her beak was enormous and capable of decapitating humans. Taloned feet clawed at the concrete floor menacingly. With one fluid movement, she unfolded a wing and pressed a feather tip against his carotid artery and the prisoner felt it suddenly bite into his flesh! It had become as hard and sharp as a blade. Jinx then morphed back into her girlish human form with a shake and scruff of her wild hair. “They can’t block me. If I get stuck in here, you will not live to regret it.” The inference was crystal clear; if she got caught, she’d blame him and he’d die. As if a switch had been flipped, she turned back to Marcus as he finished dressing and grinned wildly. “All we need is some open sky, my friend and we’re gone. Yeah?” She lifted her shirt and coiled the rope around her torso as best she could and pulled the shirt down over top. It was imperfect, but it was the best she could do. She ambled to the doorway and peeked out. For the moment the coast was clear. She looked over her shoulder and winked at Marcus. Thrusting out an elbow, like a gentleman might to a lady, she offered, "Well? Time to take this 'prisoner' outa here, Sir."

Marcus' jaw dropped at the reply he got, Jinx was making this up as she went. He already had the uniform on though, not really any time to back out of it now. Taking the keys he clipped them to the belt of the uniform and closed his mouth, all the while his mind running rampant with thoughts of what the guards would do to them when they were caught. After all to Marcus it wasn't a matter of if they were caught, only one of time. No one escaped from Hazard, period. Yet here he was about to try, was he that desperate to be out of here and he hadn't realised it? He pulled the cap on low over his face to hide as much of it as it could, the only was this was going to work was if he wasn't recognised. He had been in Hazard for a number of years now and most of the guards knew his face. Hearing a small gasp of fear from Max, Marcus turned to see Jinx looming over Max. At least he assumed it was Jinx, after seeing her change from human to raven and back again it wasn't much of a stretch to imagine her stopping halfway between. Thought the tone and what she was saying went contrary to the chatty, happy-go-lucky girl she had been a moment ago. It actually sent a chill up his spine... ... And then it was over, she was a girl again and cheery as a summers day it seemed. He shivered again as she started wrapping the rope around her, she had to be insane, how else to explain such a rapid change in personality. She winked and offered her elbow, Marcus closed his eyes for a moment and let out a resigned sigh as he gripped her arm above the elbow with one hand and acted like a guard taking a prisoner somewhere and lead her out of the cell. As they started to move through the cell block Marcus watched for signs that all hell was about to break lose. He knew it would, no one ever escaped Hazard.

Shard continued to step forward, looking straight at, and walking straight towards the man, as if she could see where he was. She knew he was new to Hazard even before his answer, she knew he was new to the pit by the way he fell into it. "I.." She began, now standing only a few inches from him. "am in need of that key in the sand there. If you would retrieve it for me, I will show you the ropes of the pit.. And you can trust without such knowledge you'll be eaten alive in here.. and I Don't mean that figuratively" She did not know if the threat was necessary or not, but today she was not going to take any chances. By telling someone you need something from them, they gain control over you. By countering that intelligence with the fact that they need you more, you reassert your dominance over the situation, and in Hazard, it was risky to be anything but in control. With that eerie smirk still upon her, she stood what was probably uncomfortably close to him. She was a tall for a human, and of average height for a demon, at around 6'2". She tried her best at times like these to be intimidating, as in her current state, She lacked much else. Up above in the regular prison holding area the alarms were sounding. All of the cells were locked immediately, as guards rushed about searching for Jinx, and others initiated a lock down. Extra bars now lined the corridors, blocking off stairwells, and exits. When the guards found Jinx, she would be taken to the pit. If they didn't find Jinx, The only place she could really reach... was the Pit. Under lock down no one, not even a guard, was allowed out of whatever compound they were in. Be it the Pit, The Cell Block, The working floor, the cafeteria, or otherwise. Generally Lock downs lasted 5-10 minutes, as they were carried out quickly, and effectively by the mulit-species Guards. |

It was frightening to see her approach, as if she didn’t need to use her eyes. She stopped to speak, only a few inches away from him. He had to look up, she was towering above him. Slowly he pushed himself up against the wall, until he could face her. Not that that mattered to her, of course. Apparently she needed the key, which had nearly unlocked his death. For a second, it gave him a feeling of power, but the threat immediate afterwards sent shivers down his spine. She wasn’t joking. Smiling, as if she already knew she had reached her goal, she waited until he gave her the key. But a sly smile appeared on his face too. I would’ve given her that key anyway, but if she wants to play it this way, I can be intimidating too…he wouldn’t be toyed around with, he decided. He reached for the key, and grabbed a handful of sand too. He spit on it, and started to knead it, giving it a bit more texture. “Hey, hey, take it easy.” Loker said to her. “There’s no need to act like this. You might know the drill here, but I bet that if you stay cuffed, even you will be in trouble…”, he let his threat hang in the air for a few seconds, to make her realise not to trifle with him. “Now, I’ve got your key here. If you turn around I will untie you.” He clenched his fist with the sand. If she tried anything funny once her hands were free, he would use an old trick he had learnt: an empty fist could hit hard, but if your fist was holding something -like the sand he held now- the power of the hit was amplified.

The pair slipped through the hallways, passing at least one guard patrol without incident. Jinx kept her head appropriately bowed and defeated as they walked along. If Marcus tired to read her as he would an animal, he’d find the random jumbled, frenetic thoughts that obviously gave rise to her speech patterns. Her brain was everywhere at once and made it hard to follow. Beneath the ‘human’ clutter of her mind, he could probably sense her need to see sky, to be free. But for the moment, it hadn’t become a panicky scream. They rounded several more corners before they heard another guard patrol coming up behind them. Jinx kept moving and whispered harshly, “Where’s the courtyard? Isn’t there a courtyard?” Tension was rising in her voice. Behind them, one of the guards called out to them, “Hey! Hey you. Where’re you going? No one’s supposed to be moved to the Pit. Who gave you orders to move a prisoner?” Unknowingly they had taken a wrong turn somehow and rather than heading out of the prison, they had gone even deeper into its interior and worse, down the corridor that lead only to the Pit’s entrance. At the sound of the guard’s call, Jinx tensed frighteningly. The edge of panic crept into her voice finally, “Fudgesickle!” She swore comically under her breath. “What now?” Only Marcus’ grip on her arm kept her from running blindly.

Marcus knew the layout of the prison well enough to know they were headed towards the pit, problem was with the lockdown measures that had been brought into effect shortly after the two of them left Marcus' cell they couldn't go anywhere else. He wasn't sure how to tell Jinx that getting to the small work yard on the surface was nigh on impossible at the moment. Of course all thinking about telling jinx anything were put out of his mind as the guard patrol behind them called out. Hesitating in replying would be dangerous so, Marcus did the first thing that came to mind. He told the truth, well some of it. "This is the prisoner that escaped, I was told she was to be taken to the pit when she was found. You got the same order right?" It made sense to Marcus, for Jinx to have obtained the uniform, keys and the wallet she must have taken them from a guard rather than a locker by his thinking. Punishment for attacking a guard was usually being thrown in the pit as a lesson. Marcus was trying to emit calm 'safe' feelings through his empathy as much as possible so that Jinx didn't freak out at his reply to the guards, he wasn't sure how successful he was though, he certainly didn't feel calm or safe himself. The guards hadn't been content to keep yelling across the gap between them apparently and while Marcus replied they had come to stand a few feet away from the pair. Marcus dared not look any of them in the eye for fear he would be recognised. Maybe that was a mistake because it made the guards a bit more suspicious than they already were. "Right so your taking a demon prisoner to the pit by yourself and she's not even had her magic bound." One of the guards at the back of the group said. "I wasn't aware she wasn't magically bound yet, that was in the order?" Marcus replied as confidently as he could. Marcus was fast running out of idea's (not that he had many to begin with) and any semblance of calm he might of felt was quickly vanishing. "Are you new or something, what's your name?" the lead guard said as the other two stated to flank the pair of prisoners. "My uh name?.." That was it, all pretence was gone, Marcus let go of Jinx's arm and turned away from the guards. "Run!" he said louder than he expected as he took off in the direction of the only place they could go, The Pit.
