Three days.
Three days of running and fighting, hiding and scavenging whatever he could bring himself to eat, whenever possible. Three days of hunger and fear.
That doesn't even count the nights.

Raerin had little reason to believe anyone in this city but himself was sane. Everyone else--he could hear them, they seemed to be speaking the same words, repeating and repeating, crying out in inarticulate pain. There was nothing to be done but put them out of their misery, or run.

Feral. The word had come into his head with the first one's attack on him. They were Feral, the human or elf mind obliterated by the experience of change and the instincts taken completely over. Raerin was beginning to wonder if he wasn't himself. He allowed his hunger to drive him, his fear overrode reason sometimes. But no...the fact that he could even doubt made him sure he wasn't.

Still, if he couldn't find someone else, somewhere, he probably would be soon. Even though he was the sort to ignore people much of the time, it was wrong to think of him as entirely wishing to be devoid of company. He only enjoyed ignoring people when there were still people to ignore. And worse yet his own instinct, which had many times in the past few days saved him and about as many nearly gotten him killed, asked, needed, demanded he find someone else. Anyone, it didn't matter who or what now if it ever did, anyone to talk to, work with, to ease the pain.

Of course he couldn't speak of emotional pain so lightly, not with the pain of his own body. Not with small to mid-sized cuts all over his back, his sides, on his face, and sore legs--none of what they had done before as humanoid arms and legs had prepared for this kind of constant motion. His coloration was unusual for a wolf, such a bright red, and there was a good reason why. There was no way anyone could hope to survive in a green forest, much less a gray place, with such a bright color. Not without picking some really good hiding places. Not without fighting.

This street was quiet. "Too quiet?" he wondered, whispering to himself, trying to prove that he still could speak, so he could still think. He walked slowly, cautiously, ears still not used to such sensitivity flicking around to pick up anything, anything at all nearby.

Food.
She needed food.

Three days of panic, of confusion, of anger and hurt, and now all she could think about was food. The world had changed. Instead of the normal sounds of a city, all she could hear was the screams and cries. The frustrating thing was that she couldn't even recall what happened. She remembered walking with a shopping bag...walking in the street, to another shop, then...nothing.

When she woke up, it was in a puddle of her own blood. There were several small cuts on her body and legs. All four of them. Four legs...attached to a panther body. Her perspective of the world had drastically changed. Things seemed to be amplified. When she tried to speak, only growls emitted. Tess almost killed herself in the panic when she awoke.

Her first instinct was to go home, if one still existed. She ran all night, dodging the dangerous feral animals who looked just like her. When she arrived at her doorstep, her entire body slumped and fell. The whole building was gone, blasted away. There were no bodies. Tess sat and yowled into the night for hours until she couldn't stay awake. Defeated, Tess traveled back to the city, to find answers. All she found was danger.

And now, all she could think about was food. Her eyes became slits as her body went into survival mode. All moving things were seen as possible prey. She had tried to pounce on several small rats with no success. Crouching low into a side street, she found what she was looking for. A small antelope. ((Don't ask...if there are lions in the streets, there can be antelope )). This is my only chance... Tess thought, lightly padding towards it.

It all happened in a flash. The animal had no chance. Tess's animalistic instinct kicked in, and her jaws snapped it's neck before it could feel anything. Satisfied with her kill, Tess gave a small purr as she dragged it into a quiet street, bending down to eat. Suddenly, a sound made her ears perk up. A wolf, straight ahead of her. Frozen, Tess could only hope it wasen't like the viscous animals she had met before. Panicked, a sliver of her human sympathy made her nose her kill an inch towards him. Her mind tried to project one word, trying to make him understand.

"Share?"

Scora sat perched on an outcropping of crumbled wall outside what had once been her old apartment building. Now it was a ruined, almost unrecognizable structure, most of its top floors missing, including the one where her tiny living space had been. She sat on the wall like a cat waiting for something, ready to spring at a moment's notice.

This street had once been one of the busiest in the city. Now it was a wreck, and no cars went by in the past three days. The place was crawling with animals and things that were not animals and not people, either, some of them mindless killers which roamed alone or in packs.

On that fateful day of the blast, she had woken up to pain, and a feeling of disorientation. When she had made it back to the ruins of her residence, she caught a glimpse of herself for the first time since the change in a cracked bathroom mirror. She had been transformed, like those beasts in the street, half human and half lion. Was this some kind of nightmare? The three restless days that she had spent sleeping and waking to the same ruined world showed her that it was no nightmare.

She foraged for food in abandoned houses, occasionally fighting off the wild creatures that came too close. Most of the ones she had seen were either insane and rabid, or too timid to get close enough for her to tell if they had any intelligent thought or not. They looked at her in silence and then ran away, not responding to her calls.

Lying in the street she saw the carcass of a dead man, an elf whose features had become partially reptilian, ripped apart by the feral creatures. Poor bastard. She herself refused to hunt the animals that stalked in the streets, no matter how hungry she became, with the knowledge that these may have once been people like herself. Instead she made her way over to the local butcher shop which was still there, abandoned, and scavanged several cuts of raw meat. She had developed a taste for it since the change had come over her.

Perrin ran through the streets with all the speed he could gather in his legs, the odd thing was he couldn't remember why he was running, it felt good though. Sniffing the air as he ran a new scent caught his nose, a sticky sweet scent with a faint trace meat. On impulse he swerved in the direction of the new scent, still running as fast as he could. He wasn't particularly hungry, scavenging through overturned bins and abandoned houses had yielded sufficient food to keep his going. The prospect of more to eat on the other hand was too good to pass up, he would take what he could when he could having lost track of how many times he had needed to run from food in the past couple of days to avoid feral animals, especially the ones that were bigger than he was. Turning a corner into an alley a collection of toppled rubbish bins greeted his vision, the sticky sweet scent he smelled appeared to be a half eaten chocolate bar laying near the lid of one bin.

As he set to and eat his find Perrins thoughts started to become more ordered. He was acting just like a dog he realised, but then why wouldn't he; he was a dog now after all. Reflecting on the past several days Perrin thought he should be fretting about all this. He was a dog, what part of that could ever be considered ok, people just didn't turn into animals. all this he now shrugged off as not worth worrying about. other than now being more curious about things his change to a dog had brought with it an almost carefree outlook on events, this wasn't worth worrying about either though.

licking the wrapper of the chocolate bar clean, Perrin looked about himself and sniffed the air again. Others were nearby, one with a feline scent, the other canine. Another Dog! Canine instincts kicking in Perrin headed towards the scent, one maybe two streets over he thought. Another dog wouldn't attack him would it, well it might but he could always run again. It didn't enter his conscious thoughts but at the back of his mind something about the canine scent seemed wrong.

Raerin had been prepared to go away away, or maybe even fight. The person the antelope might have been, even if they hadn't been Feral, was already dead, and in this condition there was no room to worry about cannibalism where there was food.

There was room to worry about outright murder. He couldn't be too sure that a Feral was beyond redemption, couldn't be too sure of anything. Killing would only be in self defense. The panther looked about as bad off as he did, maybe worse. There was something distinctly different about it, her...Her? How he knew that was unclear. There was something different about her, compared to the others, the Ferals he'd encountered so far. It was indefinable, at least, until she noticed him, and seemed to speak.

It was a single word, though it communicated something for certain. Raerin moved slowly closer, attempting not to seem hostile but also trying to come close enough that it wouldn't be difficult to hear. Of course it wasn't difficult for either of them to hear, and even though he realized it some irrationality made it seem better to come closer anyway. "If you are willing," he said quietly, and it sounded perfectly normal, like speaking in his own voice, as a, a human..elf...half-elf. Why was that so hard to properly remember? Only he was speaking in a tone both quiet and hesitant. "You are...thinking?" he asked in this manner also, quietly and hesitantly. It was a difficult, and a strange question by all means, but it was the only way he could be sure he was relatively safe. After all, it was possible a Feral could only say 'Share', and would then respond to a completely unrelated question with the same.

Taiki sighed inwardly to himself, it had been three days since The City had been filled with radiation, and it was beginning to become difficult for him to find food, all he had ever found was bits and scraps of food found in nearby garbage cans, which wasn't very filling. It also seemed that all the people of the city had been changed by the blast, it was as if all of the City's people had been changed into monsters that would like nothing better than to eat him, feral, he had thought. And with that, why did he survive with his mind intact? Surely he should have been changed into another one of those Feral beasts. And if he had managed to survive, then were there others like him? People changed, yet still Sentient? Taiki sighed to himself again, hopping up on to a low roof, and began to travel around looking for his next meal, "Whatever the case may be, lets hope I can make it out of here alive." he said to himself, running towards the smell of a freshly killed animal.

Upon reaching the corpse in question, Taiki discovered a Red-Wolf and a Panther standing over the remains of a dead Antelope, intrigued, and hungry, he decided to jump off of the low-roof that was his current roost, and approach the strange scene.

Ian woke in a empty street, his bike lying just within reach. His head was swirling and he had a splitting headache. He lay there for a few minutes, just trying to get a grab on things. After a minute or two, he had the energy to stand. He rolled on all fours, and the proceeded to stand. What happened was he fell over with a giant ‘THUD’. He let out a grown, which came out as a roar. Surprized, he looked around, looking for where the sound came from. Normally he would have been scared, but whatever happened had changed him a little. Not realizing he let the roar out, he tried to stand again, this time getting on all fours and watching his hands. “What the Fuck!” He screamed as two large furry claws took place where his hands should have been. He then started to run, to find some work of window. He found a broken one, but it was clean enough that he could see his reflection. A huge Grizzly Bear’s face peered back at him. He let out another roar, running the other direction.

Hours later Ian trotted around the empty streets, looking for meat or berries. He could really go for fish, which was weird because Ian had never really liked fish. Ian had come to inner peace with himself, and just accepted the fact he was a bear. He didn’t know where he was or what was going on, but he found he really didn’t care. That growling in his tummy did care that it needed food though. He went to a local fish market he knew, hopeful he would find some. The door had been knocked over fro the blast, so walking in was no problem. All the lights were out, but he could make out a figure eating something. “Hey, what are you doing with my fish!” He yelled. He looked back on what he said. ‘This really did change me’, he thought, but couldn’t continue thinking as the figure turned around and let out a laugh.

It was a hyena, and it looked angry Ian had ruined its dinner. The Hyena let out a high pitched scream and charged at Ian. Ian, without knowing what he was doing, batted out with a paw, knocking the screaming animal to the side of the room. The hyena jumped back on its feet and came back a second time, this time leaping. Ian again tried to bat it away, put Ian’s paw hit the hyenas face, and in return the hyena latched on to Ian’s paw with its mouth.

Ian howled in pain as he shook his paw, trying to get the hyena off. The hyena had a good hold, so Ian began to beat the hyena against a wall. Smack,Smack,Smack,Smack.

It only took four smacks for the hyena to let go and fall on the floor, dead. Ian licked his paw, not knowing why, but it helped. It wasn’t a bad bite, but it stung. Ian passed the injury side and went to feast on fish.

An hour later Ian came out, belly full. He happily trotted down the street, looking for berries or something to finish the great meal. His paw was getting better, but he had a slight limp. He turned the corner to see a panther and a wolf, standing there. If they were humans or elves, it would almost seem they were talking. There was a dead antelope on the ground. Ian began walking over, and then called out. “If you stupid animals want to fight the by all means by my guest, but you will just end up like that dead hyena. Ian, what are you kidding, there animals, they cant understand you.” He yelled, and finished stating to himself. He found it strange that they weren’t fighting or eating, just standing.

Ian then put 1 and 1 together. He was a human who had been turned into a animal, what if the same ting happened to them? “Hello animals! Do…you….under….stand….me…..?” He tried, trying to solve a piece to this puzzle.

Still in shock over hearing words from the wolf, Tess could only nod her head, and push the carcass further towards him. Looking down at her kill, her human sympathy punished her animalistic instinct to hunt. However, she was starving, and seeing the lesser animal made her primal urges take over, blocking out her human side. It was like everything else went away, and someone else took over. It was something Tess would have never done in her own right state of mind. She pushed away her thoughts, trying not to label herself a murderer. How could I have killed? she lamented to herself. Focusing on the wolf again, Tess tried to speak. For her, the effort was difficult, only being able to speak a small array of words at a time. "Yes...I am thinking...we can share..don't want to fight..."

Outside sounds made Tess turn around, seeing two approaching animals, one hidden, and one speaking as well. Quickly, she dragged the animal back to the wolf, standing beside him, fearful. A low growl emitted from her throat as she tried to speak again. "I..can..hear...not..enough..food..no fight...no fight..."

The effort to speak was very difficult. For some reason, she could speak easily within her mind, but emitting the words was foreign to her in a panther's body. If she could say more through her growls, she would have in a heartbeat. Like how afraid she was. Or how she was perplexed at the growing number of animals around her. Her human side and animal instincts were still separated, she hadn't thought to hide her kill, lest others smell it and come to her, curious.

Ian stood in shock. This one had spoke, the panther had spoke! He had heard her! She said…well he really didn’t make out what she said, but he had heard words that were….English! The panther looked confused about what Ian had said though, and then it dawned on him. Maybe what he was saying didn’t come out as….correct as he thought. What did he know? He couldn’t even understand himself that well! He spoke again, seeing the panther was trying to hide the food. “ Oh, no thank you! I already had my meal and I’m full. I mean you no harm, I’m just trying to figure out what happened here.” He listend to himself speak, and heard quite a different message. “No….I ate and full……no harm……what happened…….?” He was stunned, his words came out mumbled and confusing. But when he spoke it seemed to him as if he said everything correct. This was just too weird.

Ian had taken the change very well, he had always adapted to his surroundings. He has still in shock, yes, but he decided to make the best of it. The bear part of him helped with this also. He approached further to the group of animals, going slow so they could see he meant to harm. Ian without knowing had on a big happy bear smile, almost doofy looking. Ian hopped they would understand his gesture, as words weren’t working all thet well at the moment.

"Well, she obviously killed it," blurted Raerin, before pausing and smacking his mouth..er...muzzle with a fore-foot. Of course that was what it looked like to him, so it was honest, but there was no good reason to put it exactly that way, especially when the panther seemed to be herself wondering about the killing, the death. That probably wasn't even what the bear was asking about, he probably meant something completely different, like maybe the reason they were animals in the first place. He quietly turned back to her and said, "I thank you," and took a mid-sized bite in his mouth, chewing it to keep himself quiet. He knew not to eat too much, because then it would be impossible to defend himself or to run. Bloated was a bad condition to be in.

He could detect several others coming nearby: His ears picked them up. And if he heard, so did these two that he could see. He tried to chew deliberately to keep his brain from assaulting his tongue any further, but was too hungry to be so slow. Once he had swallowed he said, "My name is Raerin. I am--or, was--a half-elf." That wasn't too much information to volunteer. He was really trying to change the subject, somewhat, and irrelevant as his name or former race seemed he thought it would be nice for them to know something about him.

He took another small bite, trying to keep quiet.
