Sean rushed down the street, his top hat held between two trembling hands. It was full to the brim with various synthetic foods and a couple of sundry items. He checked his pocket-watch, which read 6:54 PM, just a few more minutes until sundown. Suddenly Sean was knocked to the side.
“Hey!” he shouted “Watch where you’re going!” Sean’s food spilled out over the dirty sidewalk and he groaned as he realized he was facing another hungry night. The man who pushed Sean towered four full feet over Sean’s head, and as he looked down his mouth was twisted into an angry scowl spread across his features. “Watch yourself, midget!” The man yelled. He then hurried into another building. Sean still had plenty of distance to cover before reaching his small home; his small legs didn’t help anything. It’s tough being a leprechaun Sean thought to himself. His bright green clothing had dulled over the years of living in the dirty city that was an amalgamation of creatures. He reached his house, really a small reinforced bunker, and slammed the door, shutting it against the foul demons that would prowl the area during the night time. He lived with four other… things would be the best general statement. He called out “Dinner is not going to happen guys!” Then he settled in for a long night. |

“A personal carrier! This late in the day! That’s impossible!” she says aloud to herself trying to figure out what was so damn important to have caused them to be risking their lives in such a way this late in the day. More movement from behind the personal carrier drew her attention, what she saw brought an eager smile to her full lips. “Well…well. It looks like I will get some action today after all.” Reaching to the com-link at her shoulder she pushes a button causing an audible crackle and beep, “Go ahead commander” a familiar male voice says over the speaker. “We have about a dozen class-D hostiles pursuing a personal carrier on the way to the city as we speak. Preparing to engage in order to buy the personal carrier time to make it to the main gate, requesting escort for the personal carrier while I dispatch the hostiles” she replies into the speaker as she gets to her feet and lowering her sunglasses to her eyes. “Are you sure you should be engaging the enemy on your own Shey?” the voice holding an edge of concern. “You worry too much Xavier. They are class-D’s…a piece of cake. I’ll meet you at the bar as planed, don’t worry I’m still buying” she smiles and is rewarded with a chuckle from Xavier on the other end. “Escorts are in route as we speak ma’ am good hunting” and the radio goes silent. Adjusting the sword strapped to her back she checks the position of the personal carrier once gain and then jumps down from the 15 story building.
With a ground shuddering thump she land on the ground going to one knee due to the impact. She is only slowed for an instant before the sound of her black steel toed boots crunching the rubble can be heard as she races to her personal transportation vehicle. The black high gloss paint job was new and it showed especially with the setting of the sun. On a normal day she would have taken the time to admire the smooth and powerful machine, but right now she was on a mission. She removes her sword and straps it to the side where it would be easily accessible. Placing her hand on the center the machine reads her bio-signature and lights up doing a self diagnostic on itself as she tips it up and onto its wheels. She twists the accelerator feeding the engine some fuel, its roars like a hungry lion in search of its next meal. A hungry smile on her own lips she twists the accelerator down once again this time holding it down while at the same time holding the break down causing the rear wheel to spin in place building up speed and kicking up smoke. As the engine geared up she listened for the right moment before releasing the break and allowing the bike to surge forth like a race horse breaking out of the gate. |

Karena surveyed the wreck of New Hope City from her abode. Ever since the war, the world had turned itself upside-down. People lived with fear and apprehension as they carried out their everyday work, ferocious beings prowled the streets, hungry for prey. Karena remembered how her mother had been murdered by these beings, when she had tried to protect a dwarf against ten of them. Those demons had left her an orphan...
Karena shut her crystal-clear blue eyes. She could not bear to watch all these happening. She was safe and protected in a magical enclosure, unharmed physically, but her heart was aching for the people out there. She wished she could extend her magic to them, defending the weak from the strong, but her magic was not powerful enough for that. She could only extend her enclosure to about one metre in radius around her, and she dared not leave her hideout. I don't want to die, like Mother did. In the distance, she noticed a leprechaun being chased by demons. She drew her breath in and prayed, and thankfully, the leprechaun manages to reach his home in time and a commander was leading her troops to chase them down. Everything would be fine, for the moment. Karena knew that the demons would never be vanquished entirely, that it was a matter of time before they took over the planet. She hoped she would not watch it happen with her own two eyes. The demons turned and faced the troops. It wiped them out easily, as if nothing had happened at all. What strong magic. Karena saw that the commander was being surrounded by the demons. She was putting on a brave front, but Karena knew, as did she, that no one could withstand an attack from many demons without help. And no one was around to do so. Karena knew that now was the time. She could not let a protector of the people get hurt or even die without lifting a finger to help. She summoned a beam of light and ran towards the demons. Last edited by Light & Darkness : 03-13-2008 at 09:20 PM. |

Delta Squad Commander Elliot James steps outside of his barracks at Sector Z base camp. He scans his surroundings. The troops of the day shift have already started to head inside. The night shift troops are beginning to march out. Elliot strides forward and makes sure that his Boran X firearm is switched to safety. An incident occured last year that nearly killed him; one of his men had accidentally pulled his trigger due to hesitation in the field and the ion charged beam scimmed Elliot's shoulder. It was his lucky day.
Elliot was happy with the inovation of firearms. Projectiles were now only used for ballistics. All hand guns and rifles fired a mix of ion isotopes and sonic energy. In a sense, they were "lazer-like" when fired. The EMP blast that erupted from the impact of the isotope created an instant cardiac arrest in most victims. This allowed for less blood-shed and more sustained kills. Also, since they aren't projectiles, wind has no effect on them, allowing for increased accuracy and less straying. He saw Shey take off in a hurry to personal transportation vehicle. "Another day another fight for her," he said, laughing slightly under his breath. He ran his fingers through his brown hair and began a quick walk over to his own transport, a small hover pod that could reach at most 40,000 feet just skimming the top of the upper atmosphere. He hopped inside and closed the pod over him and started up the turbines and anti-grab hover systems. The pod hummed to life as it slowly floated up. He carefully manuevered the craft around the building that Shey had just jumped off of (one of her daring show-offy moves) and followed her vehicle at high speeds about 40 feet above the ground. He got just right up above her and said into his comm link, making a connection to hers, "I'll take left, you take right? Or the other way around this time?" |

Shey looked up with a smile as she activated her comm link, "I was thinking straight up the middle, but that was before you arrived." her bikes sensors picked an energy reading from behind, glancing in her mirrors she saw an elven woman running to aid them in the fight. "It looks like we will be having back up. You take the right I'll take the left same plan as usual, we hit them hard and fast and allow for the carrier to reach the city walls. I can smell the humans on board from here, a small group of five. Probably a family that got lost on their way here and are now wishing they had stayed at their last city." she reached back and drew her sword, its metal gleaming in the light, "Good Fight!" she called out to him as she revered her cycle and peeled off to the left of the carrier her sword at the ready.
Racing toward the personal carrier that seems to have finally noticed their pursuers and were now driving their work beasts relentlessly, the poor beast looked to be nothing more then a bucket of bolts to begin with. The roboticlly enhanced beasts moaned and creaked and strained under their weight as well as the demand for more speed that they just seemed incapable of delivering. The panicked look on the poor humans on board were enough to make Sheyera increase her speed, hoping to slow down the demons long enough until the back up arrived to escort the personal carrier into the city walls safely. The demons finally noticed Sheyera as she was bearing down on them. Their bird-like mounts squawking looked like a chicken factory’s attempt at making a better bird gone horribly wrong. Their black glossy feathers covered their body in patches looking like they had been molting for their whole lives. The demons themselves were only intimidating due to their alien and foreign appearance, scales for skin and glowing red eyes, they were basically lizard-men. Mismatched armor and weapons, they were the ragtag bunch of the demon world low level, low power only able to come out and feed in the day time hours when the stronger demons were resting. Not much of a challenge in a one on one battle, but in groups they could be pretty tough especially when they encircled you and caught you be surprise. Sheyera had the benefit of catching them by surprise; they were in for quite a fight. |

Elliot guided his craft to the right, just as Shey commanded and couldn't help wondering who outranks who here? Anyway, he had no problem with taking the right flank, and he knew better than to question Sheyera's decisions. She always knew what she was doing (even if it involved something stupid) and he respected her intellect. Hybrids with her mind were rare. Most of them stupid and ill-learned; but Shey was different. She proved to be far more superior than any other of her kin.
When Elliot approached the demons to the right of the carrier, he pressed an orange button to his left, which released multiple thermal bombs from below his craft. They exploded on impact and sent multiple demons into the air, vaporizing some for getting too close to the explosion. He then slammed down on the eject button and he was jettisoned from his cockpit. The craft's AI would soon kick in and fly itself back to base and land perfectly. No need to let a multi-million dollar piece of hardware turn into scrapheap because you decided to pull off a dare-devil stunt. Elliot's anti-grav protection boots kicked in and allowed him to land easily on the ground. They could only defy gravity for a brief period of time, allowing for soft landings and higher jumps, but nothing special like floating. That was still in the sci-fi fantasies that scientist hope to someday master. They could do it with crafts like his, but still have trouble condensing it down to smaller objects like his boots. When Elliot landed on the dusty, sandy ground, he took out his custom Boran X and fired away at nearby demons that were closing in on him in a circle. Shey once told him that they were deadly in these positions, but he knew how to handle them....with speed. His Boran X allowed for a fully-automatic fire, but that consumed his energy capsules. He would have to time his shots perfectly and make sure his accuracy was accurate enough. The blue ionic pellets flew at the demons like lightning and dropped them dead. He took off sprinting towards the carrier and lept up on top. "Take my hand!" he yelled to the man who was still trying to control the beasts of burden that were dragging the carrier. The man grabbed his hand and Elliot yanked him off and let him fall to the ground. He knew it hurt the poor bastard, but he could care less at the moment. He had to get the others out of there too, before the demons got to them. Shey wanted to save the carrier, but that would take too much time. This was one of those rare moments where he would have to assume superior command and rank and defy her intentions in order to make this a successful rescue. Before he cracked the hatch to get inside to the others, he pressed a few keys that were on a band around his wrist. He had summoned his aircraft back in their direction. Somewhere in the distance, the craft haulted, spun around, and locked onto Elliot's coordinates. He could probably fit two at a time in there and could make quick trips back and forth. Women and children first. |

Shey looked over and watched as Elliot landed on top of the carrier and began to unload the passengers. *Well at least the people would live that way.* she thought as she activated her com-link, "I'll draw them away from you while you focus on unloading the humans." she said to him as she increased speed and plowed into the very center of the demons.
“SQAWK!!!” one of the bird-beasts cried out as Shey rammed into it at full speed throwing its rider some twenty feet in the air only to land on top of one of the other demons. She grabs a stub of a wing and pulls the bird from the front of her bike, with one hand she hits the breaks and slides her bike into a complete 180 degree turn. Now that she was facing the pack once again she draws her sword and guns her engine once again charging into the mass once more. A few of them broke off to continue the pursuit of the humans while the others turned to face the threat that was Sheyera. A lance is lowered in her direction and without much thought she charges into the weapon her rage getting the better of her, only to realize at the last minute that the point was tipped in silver. She cries out in pain as the silver pierces into her flesh through her armor. The pain is so great that she loses her grip on the bike and the force of the impact carries her off the bike and into the air. She lands roughly on the hard ground the wind knocked from her, weapon thrown away and bleeding from a rather serious wound. The demon cackles and hisses in triumph as it turns its bird beast around and returns to stand a few feet away from her. The rest of the pack close in as well and sit atop their mounts their eyes gleaming with hunger and hate. Shey gets to her knees slowly taking a look around her surroundings and her odds. She sighs and gets to her feet slowly dusting the dirt from her cloths as the demons slowly move in closer weapons at the ready. Every muscle tensing she growls at the demons her eyes daring them to attack. The one who struck her with a lance makes the first move charging at her lance lowered and poised to attack. With little to no effort she steps to the side and grabs the lance past the blade, bracing herself as she uses its own momentum to lift it off its beast. The demon cries out in surprise as it finds itself up in the air nearly vertical with Shey still holding on. The bird like beast now rider less losses its nerve and decides to run away from the small female creature that held its rider in the sky. Grunting she continues to flip the lance until it is now behind her sending its sky ward passenger toward the unforgiving ground. “Crunch!” goes the poor creatures neck as it impacts head first into the hard and arid ground. She lifts the lance from the now still demon and turns to face the rest of its partners a hard glare in her eyes as the blood lust that was native to her people begins to take hold. Now a bit shaken from what they just witnessed they are unsure of how to take out what had appeared to only be a simple lone human female. Some chattering and hissing is exchanged before some of them break off and retreat heading back the way they had come leaving now just three members to deal with Shey. They hesitate some as they try to figure out the best plan of attack. With a cry they charge her all at once, deciding that it was probably best to try and rush her instead just going at her one by one…big mistake. Shey twirls the lance up and creates such force that when she makes contact with the unfortunate demon’s jaw it is now facing the other way and his eyes have gone dark. Before that momentum is lost she brings the weapon back and does the same thing to a second rider. With only one left it was not hard for it to decide that maybe it would be best to run away with the others instead of dying before even having a chance to attack. With a violent jerk and a “SQUAK!” the bird beast is turned around and is now heading away at a break neck speed. Shey could have let the demon leave without anymore of a fuss but that blood was pumping in her veins. With no hesitation or second thought she launches the lance at the fleeing creature, it shudders once as the lance lands squarely in the back, then goes limp as it slips from the saddle to the ground. She can feel her body beginning to react to the blood lust, muscles and body tensing fangs beginning to grow, vision changing letting her know that her eyes probably have a slight glow to them. |

Elliot's aircraft came back swiftly through the now-dusty air and lowered in altitude next to the carrier without touching the ground. The cockpit opened and Elliot helped a woman (he assumed to be the wife and mother) and boy (the youngest of two) into the cockpit. He then pressed a few more buttons on his wrist band and the cockpit closed and took off towards New Hope City, towards safety. He then helped out another boy (the oldest) and a girl from inside the carrier. He lept down with them onto the ground and sat them down next to their father who looked up at Elliot with a thankful expression. "It's not over yet," Elliot said, unholstering his Boran X again and turning to fire at the remaining demons, protecting the family until the craft returned for two more.
After only a minute of firing and protection, the craft returned and this time, the other boy and his sister (who was about the same age) climbed inside. The craft took off again. Elliot exchanged energy cartriges. That was the only flaw in the energy ammunition; they still needed a type of clip. The clips were specialized storage containers that housed the ionin energy needed to fire. They would run out eventually and have to be exchanged for another. The clips for Elliot's Boran X could hold about forty rounds. The craft returned for the last time. Elliot helped the man inside the cockpit. Elliot would get it, but the man was larger than the others and Elliot wouldn't be able to fit himself and his guest for this trip. He decided instead to hang on to the outside. He could get a grasp on the stablizers where they don't move. Elliot holstered his Boran X and punched in the coordinates for New Hope City again and then jumped up and grabbed on, hanging on for dear life. He looked over and saw Shey about to change. "I hope you can take it from here! I'll come back in a sec! I have to change out vehicles!" The craft took off at high speeds and Elliot swore he almost lost his grip as the craft hovered over the wall of the city. It landed gently on the tarmac and he let go of the stablizer, helped the man out of the cockpit, led him over to his family, and then ran over to his personal hanger. He kept a whole collection of 'toys' in there. Everything from the latest in weapon designs, to the neatest hot rods. He saw one vehicle in particular that he liked and wanted to use. It was the latest in personal flight technology, a glider made specifically for him and designed by him. One could stand on top of the glider and could fully control it from his wrist band. He climbed on board and pulled on the visor that protected his eyes. The visor also gave him tactical battle readings that he could use in combat. A few taps on his wrist band started up the glider and he rose in the air a few feet and then rocketed forward. His boots were strapped in ontop of the glider so he could keep his balance and not fall off easily. The position he moved his feet would control the steering and rotation of the stablizers which would also direct his pitch and flight pattern. The glider came with various weapons; among them were small homming spears, thermal bombs (like on his previous craft), fully automated machine guns (that fired the ions of course) and he could also lob electo-detonators that acted as EMPs and could damage electrical equipment. The final feature to the awesome aircraft was a similar AI unit like the one in his previous craft. Except this one had a mind of its own and can aide Elliot from the air while he's on the ground. Elliot and his glider sored over to Sheyera to finish off the rest of the demons. He already began firing the homming spears as he was still at a distance. The spears lodged themselves into the chests of multiple demons and he glided forward, performing a perfect axil twist through the air, and heading lower to take a few shots with his Boran X. "Okay," he hollared as he approached Shey at a rapid speed, "I'm back!" |

The rest of the demons seeing that they were not facing normal prey decided that retreating was the best plan of action, especially after Elliot returned and assaulted them from the air with his latest toy. She was shaking from the rage as well as her bodies reaction to the silver in her wound. Grumbling to herself, for not having worn her other armor. Her golden eyes watched intently as the few demons ran off into the setting sun, the first hints of stars beginning to show in the darkening sky. Looking to Elliot she smiles, "Always a pleasure to fight along side you Elliot." her hand on her ribs as she tries to slow the bleeding. Looking about for her bike she spots it a few feet away laying on its side, her sword just a little further from it. "I think its safe to return to the city now. Although I'm probably going to get yelled at for breaking protocol and engaging alone." she shrugs as she goes toward her bike, "At least we managed to save that family." her features were returning to normal now as she knelt to right her bike, though she did grit her teeth a bit at having to bend down in order to right it.
"You got any plans for tonight after getting off duty?" she asked him as night began to envelop them, she straddles her bike and waving her hand over the center panel the bike hummed to life. "Me and a friend are going out for a few drinks. You wanna come? I owe you a drink for coming to my aid." she said smiling to him as she puts the bike in gear and rolls off at an easy pace, knowing he would be able to keep up on his glider. Passing her sword she bends down and scoops it up replacing it to its spot on the bike as she speeds up heading for the city. |
