Tales of Ragnarok OOC

'Do you remember... what we agreed on?'

'You'll come too, right?'

'We'll meet there.'

Blue eyes slowly opened, lips slowly widening just narrowly as consciousness flooded over her like a cool breeze, stealing her from the warmth of her slumber and dreams. Rubbing her eyes a little, she yawned, and then stretched her arms out wide before sitting up in the shade of the tree she'd been napping under. She found herself in one of the cities many courtyards, which was mostly a large patch of nicely-trimmed grass, a few trees and cobblestone pathways, and an ornate bench or two. The sound of childrens laughter not far from where she was gave her some sort of insight on just how long she'd slept, seeing as when she'd fallen asleep most schools had been in session still.

Stretching a little more, Yume rose up to her feet, debating on her next course of action. As things were, she thought herself caught in a sort of limbo at the time being. There were small, whispered rumors in her fathers court of some strange plot of destruction, but her father himself was being oddly quiet about the whole ordeal. This only lead her to believe it was far more important that was being let on, since her father typically had a habit of jumping the gun in most situations; she couldn't help but sigh a little at that fact. Deciding on nothing else, she simply began to walk foreward without direction.

Thinking back on her dream left her with more desire to do something than anything else around her. She was bored, to say the very least of all things, and having been stuck in that boredom so long, she was beginning to become lethargic. There was always a natural longing in her for traveling, probably stemming from the fact that as a child that had been nearly all she'd done. Being cooped up for too long made her feel like a bird that had forgotten how to fly...

'Come.'

Wincing suddenly, she stopped where she was, grasping her head in response to the sharp pain that darted through her head, and left tingles down her spine. Slowly, she reopened her eyes, the shock clear upon her face. Dream-seeing was a natural talent of hers, but... It had been a very long time since she'd heard any voices like that outside of her slumbering.

Letting her body ease a bit, she sighed and gave a small nod to herself. Giving a glance at the road she was on and the intersecting roads ahead, she decided to make her decision... She had been thinking about going to talk to her father, guardian, and adviser, somebody, about any 'royal tasks' that needed to be carried out... A village in peril, an outbreak of skirmishes, a thief problem... but figured it'd be much easier this way; she'd simply just go on and leave.

Somehow, some way, she would remember why the voice that always plagued her sounded familiar. And maybe she'd find out for herself what her father was trying to keep so quiet...

The sun rose over the Avaiden continent. It was a nice calm day with an clear blue sky. The sun hit Retto's face from the window in his room. He got up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes and got dressed. His put on his blue cloak and black pants on and then prepared some breakfast for himself. He was not bad at cooking but his skills could use some improvement. He saw the weather outside and finally decided a decision he was wondering about for a while. There has been talks from the high mages that a catastrophe was about to befall the world and the other mages were trying to find out the causes. The high mage said that gods of the world are plotting a scheme of destruction but did not know what for. Some of the more religious mages were trying desperately to deny it as a hoax. Retto on the other hand had a scientific mindset. He felt that the only way to prove something is true or not is with evidence and they were not going to find it by reading books in the Artorian Archives. Retto figured that it would require field research, heading out into the world to discern fact from fiction. Today was a perfect day to start traveling and so his mind was set.

After eating he got his stuff ready. A world map, his staff, a backpack, a sleeping mat, provisions, a compass, some spell books, pens, a notebook and books about whatever information was available about the gods of ragnar. After checking if he got everything he left his house and locked the door with a simple spell. He walked down the steps in front of his house. The architecture of the city was mainly stone spires and glowing magic stones that decorated the sides of the building. There weren't many people up so early in the morning. He walked outside the entrance of the city of Artoria. Retto set his sights on Calhounia first but he first had to head through the Mesnogh Forest. There were probably some monsters inside and it might be difficult since Retto was by himself but Retto was up for the challenge. He soon arrived near the Mesnogh Forest.

"The sun shines
The grass grows
To forever walk in sunshine
...is dreadfully boring, and I'm no good at poetry".

Sakai sighed, shoulders drooping as he ambled along the dirt path. This haiku business just wasn't his thing - no doubt about it. The forest seemed to stretch on forever, where he'd thought it'd be a light stroll - he should have taken that chance to buy himself a map. Everything had started out so well, too. The first few months had been all money and sunshine - just as he thought, there was always a need for someone who could stick a sword in someone else. Even the smallest of towns had at least a couple of people who wanted him to avenge a murder, fetch some item from a monster lair or just plain kill something. Being pretty much the only capable person, he could charge just about whatever he wanted... not that he wouldn't have done their little tasks anyway, just for the experience. They didn't need to know that, though, now did they? After just a few weeks, Sakai had enough coin that he could afford just about anything he wanted. He'd even considered buying a new sword, but it had only taken a few moments' examination to realize that his own were better. As a result, his pockets were getting heavier.

A light breeze caused the foliage to rustle, but did nothing to improve the swordsman's mood. It wasn't particularly hot outside, and the leaves' shade was ample protection from what sunlight there was. Sakai hung his head and ground his teeth - a very undignified action, but no one was watching. Lifting the hem of his kimono, he scanned the area for signs of intelligent life - nothing - and took a careful sniff. Gods, he needed a bath... Some new clothes might not be a bad idea, either. Having his current set repaired again and again was getting old, and with all the blood, sweat and other assorted body fluids that regularly passed through the fabric, it was getting to the point where no one could get the stains out, and the smell would never completely disappear. It was a bother, but those were the sort of details you simply couldn't ignore while travelling, living by the sword. Speaking of swords, he was down to his last one. As it turned out, monster skulls, gargoyles and tree creatures could wear out the best of blades in mere weeks. He'd discarded his second last one just the other day, and he was not looking forward to journeying much longer with only one sword.

The bright sunlight that shined throughout the morning was being concealed by the clusters of trees throughout the Mesnogh Forest. Rays of light were passing through the trees as Retto continued walking through the large forest. Retto had a map of the forest but it was still easy to get lost within it. Suddenly as Retto was calmly walking he was startled by the sudden appearance of a monster. It was a monster in the form of a tree. It had hollowed out eyes, and its limbs were like arms. It had a hollowed out mouth and it roared. It walked towards Retto using its own roots as it tried to slash at Retto. Retto jumped backwards and keep his distance fairly easily since the monster moved somewhat slowly. He held his staff sideways and began to cast a spell. A magic circle appeared under him and it glowed brightly. He then proceeded to say the incantation for the spell, “Flicker O Burning Ember! Fireball!” A flaming sphere appeared above him and proceeded to strike the enemy with a fast velocity. The tree was very vulnerable to the attack and screamed in the pain of being set on fire. Retto proceeded to duplicate the spell while the monster was in pain and shot a second fireball at the tree monster. It hit dead on and felled the monster. Content in his skills he continued on in the forest. He still had quite a ways to go in order to get out of the forest. He was able to handle one monster one on one but he feared what would happen if a group of monsters attacked him. Not worrying too much about it he proceeded to try to explore the forest to look for it’s exit.

A blur of red could be seen through the thick trees around her. She felt free as she ran in her wolf form. Golden eyes stared out into the world before her as she broke into a clearing. She felt alive in this form. Her red, white and black fur was wild from the wind. Riska winced as she shifted into her human form. Legs became arms and legs. She was in her soul bound outfit. It was a simple black outfit. Black pants and a shirt. Her long red hair flowed behind her as a breeze came through.

Riska found herself heading back towards Redante. She wanted to get home to rest before the night fell around her. The girl walked slowly, enjoying the nice weather. Of course, she was weary about monsters. Her hazel eyes closed for a second and she sighed heavily. As she walked, the smell of blood entered her nostrils. Someone was nearby and fighting. The girl growled lowly and she shifted back to her wolf form so she could get back to Redante faster.

[[ Sorry this is so lame and short. ]]

Messiah cast a small glance behind her, her gaze expressionless as she noted the eagerness of the temple guards who shifted their weight from foot to foot several yards behind her. They were eager because their superiors had given them orders to protect her, and she had given them orders to stay positioned where they were. It was a hard dilemma for men so loyal to their ideals, codes, and romantic fantasies of honor and fealty. She sighed a little as she continued foreward into the depths of the long-since overgrown forest, feeling a bit guilty for serving them with such a troublesome decision.

Still, she knew they wouldn't follow. As far as they were concerned, her words were almost as strong as the ancient laws. They would never be able to tell if what she told them was because of her prophecies or not, but would undoubtedly presume the former of ideas to preserve their safety. Her order for them to stay behind could very well be her selfish desire for solitude... or a hidden warning for their safety from one of her visions of their deaths...

Staring foreward, she watched the greenery thicken, as if the forest itself were aware of her presence and twisting itself tighter to trap her within it. She was sure this wasn't the case, but the ancient forest surrounding the Temple of Traum-Dormin was not something to be taken lightly... The temple itself was a mystery to most, and the forest well-guarded, entering it was taught against from an early age in Luteque.

Before long the guards were no longer in earshot or eyesight, and she found herself undergoing a strange transition of emotion... A bare, void sort of coldness in her chest that was unpleasant, that she wished would go away... Fear, perhaps? Or maybe loneliness? There was no way she could really be sure at this point, nor was there a reason for her to give in to such a nagging feeling. The only option she had at this time was to continue foreward, as her dream had dictated.

She often found herself forced to lift her dress quite high to climb the tangled brushwork and massive roots that overran the forests floor. Small nicks and cuts found their way across her soft flesh as she pressed onwards past thorn bushes and broke through hanging vines. Her dream had in no way made this seem like a simple task... but none so difficult as it truly was.

Sighing as her feet touched a small clearing of even ground, she let her dress fall down again around her ankles and wiped some sweat from her brow, looking around a little. The sun barely made its way down through the lofty tree tops, but somehow it was still so lush and green... Despite this, there was no real edible vegetation, but if her premonition had been correct...

...She smiled wide as her eyes landed upon the single, crimson apple that hung down not far from where she had stopped, taking it in her hands she bit in, savoring the sweet, juicy, treat. Sitting down on a felled long, she decided to take a rest and enjoy the small snack fully. She hadn't eaten yet today, in order to avoid some of the most strict of priests, and this was a most welcome reprieve from her otherwise unplanned fasting.

"Tachiai!", cried the swordsman as his blade slid out of its scabbard. He'd already pushed it with his thumb, and it left the sheath without protest, slicing open the bowels of the first enemy. Before the monster even had time to begin collecting its falling intestines, its snout crunched as Sakai followed up with the scabbard itself. The beast toppled over backwards, jets of blood standing out from its nose and belly as it crashed to the ground. There was a theatrical pause, before Sakai rose from his post-strike crouch and flicked his wrists, relieving his weapons of blood and stomach juices, and turned around. Refastening his scabbard, he stared down the remaining two beasts - they were monsters of no kind known to Sakai, ugly, pig-faced beasts with tusks and hooves. They were larger than him, muscle-bound but unarmed, and without claws or other natural weapons with decent reach. As he'd just demonstrated, they were too squishy to ignore sword cuts, and the peach-coloured fuzz that covered their bodies left no room for patches of scales or other things. There was no challenge or gain to fighting them, and the swordsman frowned. He'd rather not use up his last sword too soon. Perhaps they'd just flee when they saw what he did to their pal. Of course not, he thought to himself as they each gave a bellow and charged.

Carefully cleaning the sword as he walked, Sakai left the three monstrosities neatly sliced up in puddles of their own blood. They had nothing on them worth taking and he doubted they'd make worthwhile meals, so he trudged on with a sour expression. It was to be expected, to encounter monsters in the forest, but it was still irritating. Also, no matter how long he walked, the trees on both sides of the path looked the same, ever the same. How large was this forest, really? Suddenly tense, he gripped his sword and listed - had that been a wail, just a moment ago? Letting his sword go, Sakai straightened up and resumed his walk. If that had been a wail, it must have been distant - probably a day or two's rapid march. He almost wished he'd bought himself a mount. Almost. With a deep sigh, he sheathed his blade again and folded his arms across his chest. There was nothing to do but keep walking, and accept the fact that nothing interesting would happen until he got out of the woods. As long as no one was around, he might as well keep practising his poetry.

"Of sharpest steel, my blade
Of softer skin, my foe
To unite them both
Is to ask for a mess... Lords, why do I even try?"

Yume grinned back behind her as Redante's tall, iconic towers became blocked by the forest she had been running through for quite some time now. She wasn't out of the woods yet though... literally and metaphorically. If her father so chose, he'd undoubtedly send any sort of army or guardians to come and get her, if not accompany her... Then again, sometimes, her father might do nothing at all, which was of course, what she hoped for.

Still, she wasn't out of breath yet, and it'd be good to run as far as she could, as fast as she could, as long as she could... Now that she was out of the capital, she could feel herself beginning to perk up. Her senses were going wild with anticipation, and her body was buzzing all over in eagerness for battle... and survival. It was believed since ancient times that her family, the Kasai, were not only descended from the flames of Hell, but the wolf demons who lurked in Hell, also... At times like this, she was closer to believing it than doubt, seeing as she did, indeed, feel like an animal let out of its cage. Really, she almost felt like howling.

~~~~
Sin stared blandly at the fire he'd made before him, then glanced around at the forest, unsure of this being the best idea he'd had... As it was, he couldn't see the sky, and had no way of telling if there'd be rain, or even snowfall. Wherever he was though, there was a distinct chill in the air...
Sighing, he decided not to concern himself with it. If he had to sleep in the rain or the snow, he was sure it would be fine in the end. His real concern was outrunning the woman he knew was tailing him, ever since Protenis. He had to question whether it had really been a good idea to run from that place... but when people slowly approached with steel batons and tazers, talking carefully like one does when cornering a wild beast, well... its not the most settling of scenarios to first wake up to. And to this moment he still had no idea what the hell had happened before all of that... Just waking, then the city, then the people, then the chasers... Then that loud, distinct voice in his head that ordered him to RUN...
Frowning a bit, he huddled up, trying to maintain as much warmth as he could. For some reason, though he couldn't remember much about himself, he could remember these basic survival techniques. Sure, being able to read the weather would have been nice too, but he supposed there was a limit to just how much one could do... And on that note, his eyes slowly wandered to his right forearm, staring hard at the long, faded scratch that came nearly from elbow to wrist. It had been a vicious wound that the woman had inflicted on him not far from the city walls of Protenis, and now... now it was nearly gone.
And he was sure that wasn't exactly normal...
~~~~~

((Alright, bringing this guy in a LOT sooner than I'd expected, sorry about that. I just feel the very strong need to put someone in something OTHER than a forest. ^ ^))

Izak smirked, clapping his pocket watch shut and gently putting it back in its place. Dark eyes watching the city, he imagined she had to be well out of its protective walls by now, if his estimates were correct. He'd watched her fall asleep in the peaceful gardens, completely oblivious to what waking would bring her, but he had figured just as much. Looking at the empty patch of grass where she'd lain just hours ago, he could sense she was nowhere within Redante's structures, only making the small smirk on his face more prominent as he realized he'd been correct all along...

Walking through the evening crowds he made his way to one particular shop, stopping in and purchasing himself a new set of enchanted throwing daggers. There was no reason to dirty his favorites for this mission right now, after all. He did detest using them on monsters and their sort, preferring to keep them handy on special occasions, like balls or parties where he might be forced to protect the princess from the shadows... or assassinations...

As he emerged from the shop he flicked a pair of the new weapons around between his fingers with precision, getting used to their weight and size, which didn't take too long. He still had time to kill, though, and no idea how to do it. Amazing how a killer himself couldn't fathom a way to get rid of something so seemingly simple...

Eyes were opened to meet the sun, lips were were going up in down in a chewing kind of motion.Ace awoke from his deep sleep it was probably noon in the forest but shade from the tree covered the sun's light to meet the ground. Ace grabbed his blade that was at his side, it was heavy, he stood up and started to stretch out a little in the process he yawned as well. Its been a week since hes been in here;it was deep dark forest that seem to stretch forever just to fool with the forest's travelers.

Ace started walking in a direction he didn't even know where he was going end up being at.A light breeze hit him and through his long white hair it flowed with it. He sighed as his stomach grumbled at the emptiness of space it had. The leaves seems to fall in a pattern as well first one every 2 seconds and every 1 second after awhile. He wanted to find something to eat at least before he has to resort to eating away at his flesh.A scent rose from his body as well it was a rotten smell and he didn't even know where it was coming from until he realized the scent was following him.
"Aw Man, I stink."He was sad sniffing at him self sometimes as he was walking his way out of this place.

((Sorry for the short post))

Hours later, Sakai was still walking. He hadn't met any more monsters, which was a good thing - but he was growing weary of the forest. Suddenly, a frightening thought struck him. This island ended in two peninsulas - that much he knew. He was headed for the larger one, since there was supposed to be a decent-sized city there, with a decent-sized port, in which he might find a decent-sized ship and continue his travel. The other peninsula, he recalled, was mostly forest. Maybe he should have taken a left somewhere earlier on the way. Sighing deeply, he resolved to keep walking anyway. It was probably the fastest way of finding out where he was, anyway. It was only a few more steps, however, before he found the forest road coming to a sudden and complete stop some distance farther ahead. Surprised, he sprinted the last of the way. Upon his arrival, he found that the road had not stopped at all, but simply came to a turn. That was not all, though. Sakai clapped his hands together in thanks to whatever deity was overseeing his woes - there was a signpost! Pointing down the turning road, the sign said 'Luteque'. Eyes glittering, it was all the swordsman could do to keep himself from falling to his knees and hugging the signpost.

As he was about to turn down the road, however, his eyes caught a second sign. This one pointed straight into the forest, in the same direction the previous road had taken him. 'Temple of Traum-Dormin', it said, and Sakai's eyes instantly shifted from star-filled to dollar signs. An ancient, abandoned temple in the middle of nowhere? He'd spoken to lots of adventuring bands, and they all agreed on one thing - there was money to be made in places like that. "Ka-ching!", he said to himself, scratching his chin with a mischievous smirk. All he'd need to do was get through an unknown distance of overgrown verdure, battle whatever monsters guarded the treasure, and carry it back despite battle wounds and overall fatigue. Easy. First, though - it was time for some rest.

Yawning, Sakai stretched and got up, tossing the remains of his meal - mostly dried meat - into the woods. Putting his hands on his hips with a determined expression, he turned and glared at the thick verdure that lay in front of him, blocking his path to the treasures of the temple. He was not entirely sure of how he'd negotiate the woods - he liked to call himself a skilled fighter, but he was no woodsman. Folding his arms, he thought hard. Wait... his thoughts wandered back to the ninja of his home town. Those people could get anywhere they wanted - no mere terrain could hinder them, that much he knew. Now, how did they do it? He must have seen it at some point, if he could only remember... Closing his eyes, he stood in quiet concentration for a few moments, before the memory came crashing through his cerebral cortex with the force of fifteen angry golems on a hockey trip... whatever that was. Anyway, the ninja jumped from branch to branch, like squirrels. It looked pretty ridiculous, but it was worth a try. Crouching, Sakai drew a deep breath and leapt!

It was exhilarating, he'd give it that - to soar from branch to branch to branch and feel the wind blow through his hair. It was worth it, even despite the bruises on his face, hands and knees from the first few disastrous jumps. He'd learned his lesson, and now firmly gripped the hilt of his sword. Suddenly, a branch came at his face from nowhere - his sword flashed once, twice, and the branch fell away, cut in two. He might not have had the style of his home town's ninja, but he wasn't the sneaky sort anyhow. He kept good speed, and saw no monsters as he flew through the woods. The branches that threatened to knock his head of grew ever more numerous, however, and he pretty much had to hack through the treetops to get anywhere. All of a sudden, the next branch wasn't where it was supposed to have been - where he could have sworn he'd seen it be! As he fell, he reached out and just barely reached it with his hand. Had the tree just moved? Where normal men might have been frightened, a foolhardy adventurer like Sakai could only grin. What better indication of treasure than danger? A magical forest must hold magical treasures. Then again, he might just have missed his jump out of sheer clumsiness.

Letting go of the branch, he dropped to his feet on the soft forest floor. The temple had to be close, and there was no use in revealing his presence by dropping logs everywhere he went. He'd walk the rest of the way, he decided, and turned around. He would have gaped in surprise, but his well-honed pretence of composure allowed him to stay in control and simply raise and eyebrow; before him, on a log, sat a small, horned girl, peacefully eating an apple in the middle of an enchanted and most likely highly dangerous forest. None could dispute the suspiciousness of the situation, and so Sakai gripped the hilt of his sword once again. Eyes trained at the girl, he asked, "Now, who are you?". It might have been considered a bit rude to ask before introducing oneself, but she could easily have been a vicious monster in disguise, and it was better to be safe than sorry.
