Default The Awakened City

It was a peaceful day when the end came over the world, fire flashing the continent of Siske, the second-most technologically advanced continent of the world. When fire engulfed their end of the world they would send fire of there own to Amorina, the most technologically advanced continent. This flash fire would go out, destroying the land that would be too kind to the more technicratic of cultures, the nations of Tyne and Strausa respectively.

The ash from the fires would be so strong that as they floated into the sky the precious sun was blocked out, starving the rest of the world of the nurturing force that was truly the center of the world. With it the innocent people would die in the world, under the cold dominance of a fate that they ushered themselves into.

So the world would look to the magi who forsaw the nuclear warfare of Siske and Amorina, killing themselves and the continents of Grilia, Hins, Rurope, Niveny, and Froco. So the resulting nuclear winter would look like in their eyes. It mattered not so much to them, as they pooled some mana into a patch of land that would remain enacted for the time the horror would come.

It would be a mystery even to them how the small structures in this mana field would come about, but when the bombs dropped, there were buildings in this place. One building that serves as a living dwelling, a building that serves as a meeting hall, a building that is a temple, a building where various things would be made by hand, and a building that would serve as an office for whoever was leader of the civilization that seemed to have dwelt here, and would disappear corpseless. The architecture, thought functional and sturdy, also unconventional, nothing that had ever existed on any part of this world, though beautiful to look at.

The small city, abandoned more than ruined, did have what remained of the people in this place: in the form of a young woman, asleep on a stone bed under a statue of a strange angel-like person, androgynous looking with the majesty of royalty, within the center of this city. Her hair was more golden then it was blond, her eyes charcoal, and her skin a pale tone, lighter then peach but not snow-white. The silver dress that draped her body covered her from her neck to her feet loosely. Her body would be lean, thought not skinny, curvy and fit.

Now that destiny had fulfilled its cruel cycle, a strange mana pulse would emit from this place, calling on the survivers of the world-shattering tragedy, to come to a small town in the nation of Lilone on the continent of Niveny, where the Magi planned the seed that would be the world's last hope. A sign in old Mongi, the language of the Magi, would read "Cices ipt Mogi", the best translation being the "City of Mana."

Such a place is now awake.

This walk would be the death of him. For the first time Kyros bitterly acknowledged the thought that had been gnawing at the edge of his mind for days, ever since he'd left the camp that had served as the only home he'd ever known. Granted it hadn't been much of a home, and he'd nearly met his death there more times than he could ever count, but it was what he'd known. He'd left, rather stupidly he now acknowledged, because he wouldn't have even lasted this long if he'd stayed, although his death might have been quicker in the camp than here.

For years Kyros had survived in the camp largely by his wits and his ability to lie on the spot, as well as holding his own in a fight, but about a week ago his lying tongue had gotten him into trouble he couldn't weasel his way out of, so he'd simply stolen anything he could get his hands on and stole out of the camp in the dead of night. He didn't know where he was headed, he'd just wanted to get away. But now that he was away he was going to die alone in the barren, scarred nowhere because he was now out of food and almost out of water and he was close to freezing his ass off anyways.

Wallowing in despair, Kyros missed a rock in his path and instantly his worries about death suddenly felt like reality as his feet flew out from under him and he went tumbling to the ground and down the slight incline, knocking into just about every rock on his way down. When he finally came to a stop at the bottom of the rise, Kyros was bleeding from a few spots and would definitely wake up with bruises in the morning. Swearing, he slowly climbed to his feet and froze. How had he missed the small city before him.

Hope sprang in Kyros's chest and he moved more quickly than he had in days. He practically ran toward the settlement, although as he did he noticed that there were no signs of life anywhere, oh well, perhaps he could find something to scavenge and a sheltered place to stay at least for the night.

He reached the buildings and slowed, a strange feeling running down his spine. He felt drawn toward the center of the cluster of buildings and almost despite himself Kyros headed toward it. He didn't even notice the sign posted. Beneath a strange, towering statue he saw something that made him freeze. It looked like a corpse, a woman stretched out on a bed of stone. Instinct made Kyros draw a knife and glance around him, but there were no other signs of life. Cautiously, carefully he made his way to the woman.

"Hello?" Kyros was embarrassed that his voice shook when he called out. It was that embarrassment that made him press forward. He noted how lovely the woman was as he stopped next to her slab. He also noted that she was as still as death. Just to make certain though he reached out one hand, the other holding his knife tightly, and brushed his fingertips against her neck, searching for a pulse.

Upon hearing the voice of the stranger the strange woman opened her eyes. Her eyes had normal whites in them, but the iris was a colour that better resembled charcoal. Those eyes looked around for a bit, then she slowly raised up, sitting up on the stone that she was on. She turned to look at the fellow that had awoken her, cold and battle weary. She craned her head to look at him.

She had a look of curiosity more than anything else, even thought the sky was darker than she remembered it, and from where she was she could see the end along the mana border that it was cold enough for snow to form. Had this man come out from the realm outside of the City of Mana? Had the time of Prophecy come over the world?

She looked at the fellow, in his eyes, as his caution had him skiddish and careful, armed in the event she proved to be a threat. "Hello," she said, as though replying to his statement, "Have you come from outside the city? Has fire burned the world and ash block out the sun?"

The moment the woman began to move Kyros swore loudly and stumbled back, falling on his ass once again and losing his knife. He froze on the ground and just stared. Part of it was terror, but an equally large part of it was fascination. She was beautiful, more so than any woman he'd ever laid eyes on back at the camp. It made Kyros aware of exactly how much he paled in comparison. He was wrapped in the remnants of a dozen different pieces of clothing, all of it dirty and torn. Beneath that he himself was no less dirty and torn. His skin was a light brown that would have naturally been darker had there still been sunlight, but it was crisscrossed with pale scars, including one cutting across his face from his left temple to his jaw, just narrowly missing his mouth. Something in his muddled heritage kept him from ever really growing facial hair, so his lower face was still bare even after his long trek through the barrens, but the black hair on his head was rather long now.

He was so captivated by her that he almost didn't realize she was speaking again. "Fire burned the world?" Kyros said, sort of confused. Then it dawned on him. "Um, yeah...there's no more sun, and...yeah, pretty much everywhere is burned...and I'm certainly not from here." He stumbled over his words without really knowing why. Since the girl didn't seem to be waiting to attack him, Kyros slowly climbed to his feet, watching her cautiously. "Who are you?" He asked. "What is this place? It's so..." Kyros looked around him and then back to the woman. "Different."

Fright of her coming had caused him to fall to his feet, and he struggled while asking her questions surrounded with confusion. It was expected from someone that was from outside. She was expecting the outsiders to start coming once the time of prophecy came over the world. After all, this town was built to be their refuge, their last shelter when everything they knew would die in a matter of eventful moments that would light the sky, then the sky would light no more.

This odd belle slid off of the slab she slept on for how long even she was unaware of. On her feet wearing a simple leather sandles she stood up on them, standing a good six foot five. She extended her hand for this newcomer to grasp.

"I am called Ontamga, " she told him, "This place I know it to be Cices ipt Mogi. It was built in oversight of the coming catastrophe, when fire would burn the world and the ash would block out the sun. Cices ipt Mogi simply means 'City of Mana' to the people that shielded this spot for the time when the people of this world would start coming, the survivors of the horror, to rebuild and continue on." Her voice was soft spoken, yet it commanded a strange power deep from within.

Tessa looked ahead, her light auburn eyes weary as she took in nothing but wasteland all the way to the horizon. She was no longer even sure why she had set out on this quest into the middle of nowhere, and was having trouble convincing herself that she hadn't been walking in circles for the last day or so. She barely had enough water to last the rest of the day, and had run out of all food except for a piece of dry, stale bread, which she took from a small pouch and bit into.

"Might as well die slightly less hungry..." she muttered, turning fully around again to look for anything on the horizon that might show her which way to go, but again she found nothing. Sighing, she finished off the bread and then reached down to pull a knife out of her boot before holding it up to check her reflection in it. She shook her head as she realized that her usually milk-chocolate skin had now picked up an unhealthy grayish tinge.

"Been rationing water too much..." she said again to herself, then tossed her knife into the air in front of her, giving it a twist so that it spun wildly before hitting the ground and coming to a stop. She glanced at it, then looked off in the direction in which the blade was pointing. "Guess I have a direction then..." she added, walking forward and picking up her knife before heading off towards her right, taking a small sip of water as she went.

Had felt the tug of…something, but since the fall out…since the accident, she had learned to obey her instincts and stop asking questions. She had been altered; perhaps in part she always had been different, her parents weren’t all human after all. Grabbing the self made thick clothing that kept the worst of the nuclear winter’s weather off her she dressed. Thick rabbit furs it seemed, they served well in the form of boots, trousers, a cloak like jacket and hood. Her face completely covered and a thick pair of explorer’s gloves were put on. Off then did she set from the shambled remains of her home, well, the cat sanctuary she had worked in. The remaining few cats she had released weeks ago, hoping they would far better than others if they were given freedom.

She passed one of them, one she had named Twinkle, the large Siberian tiger growled, but left her well alone, the girl then set off at a good pace to wherever it was her body wanted to go. It would have been a longish journey, several times she thought of quitting in fact, but when eyes spied that first tower she was glad she didn’t. Head tilted in a rather curious manner before she set off running towards the city, this was very odd, what was all this? It shone like something out of the wizard of oz, it could at least be somewhere she could get some food and rest, having dared not stop in the wasteland that was now the world.

When entering the city the overly dressed girl looked about wide eyed, it was warm in here, and there seemed to be some kind of light; to which she had to squint, she was cautious as she entered, looking about and sliding close to one of the buildings, darting behind it and into the shadows as she heard voices. A pair of feline eyes stared out from the shadow, watching these two people, did they live here? It wasn’t a large city to be sure, so maybe there were only a half dozen people, well, one could hope right? Perhaps when these two left she could try and find some food and water, skittish personality had only been enhanced since the fall out, people had turned cannibalistic to survive back home. She didn’t want to get eaten here, though they hardly looked the crazed terrified people that had roamed the streets of her city.

While awaiting a response from the fellow that was there she could see someone from the corner of her onyx eyes dart by, watching them, waiting for something. The animal instincts surfacing that would have been supressed from a thousand years of cilivisation?

As Ontamga looked closer to the anomoly that was scurrying about, she realised that is was in fact another person, lurking in all animalistic glory. It appeared to be a girl, only clearly visible thing was her eyes, that of a cat-like creature. They would shine in the light that was there, as this place was kept warm with the power of mana, the sun was the sun, and its light shined no more. The darkness was only broken by lights that layed along the paremeter of the square. While not perfect, as the there were still patches of town that were in darkness, it was still better than nothing.

Once established that it was a person, she extended a hand in the general direction of the shade, flapping the fingers together in a gesture to come. "You there," she called out in accompiant to her hand, "Come out from the shadow for you are among friends now."

Eyes remained on the people, frozen in place when she was spotted, the furs she wore far too warm in this climate, especially for this new body. At the comment of friends she nearly choked on her laughter, standing the woman removed the furs, tossing them down into the little street. “Friends? Now isn’t that a precious concept.” Mirth twinkled in feline eyes, but she was an oddity, a victim of the nuclear fall out if there ever was one.

Skin was not red, not grey not even black, it was pure white, like snow with rosette’s of black and brown that splotched over shoulders, outer thighs, over nose and forehead and into hairline. She wore a black tank top, revealing similar splotches on hips and waist, a pair of short but not obscene denim shorts and nothing else. If these markings had yet to give a person a clue perhaps mixed with feline eyes, those slightly rounded ears that peeked from wispy long locks of white or the tail that swayed with a mind of its own would. She was about five five, and a very lithe frame, agile perhaps cat like. Not that that had anything to do with the fall outs radiation, not at all, in fact back before the destruction of the world she had been quite the gymnast, dancer and swimmer. Though rarely competed professionally, fingertips were topped with dainty looking blackened sharp nails. Feet however seemed perfectly normal, as the last of the furs fell away to reveal a pretty young face and an untrusting look in feline eyes.

It had been this mutation, caused by the exposure to both radiation and the cats at the same time, which had driven most people away. Oh and the crippling hunger and madness had played a rather large part. “You can’t trust anyone since the sun was blocked out.” Tail gave a twitch and a writhe, ear tips the odd flicker to some distant noise, all of which went unnoticed by the mutated one. Her voice was rough, likely from the travel here and lack of any real supplies, like most cats curiosity drove her to stupidity.

Tessa could barely believe her eyes. She'd barely been walking for five minutes since the short pause, but before her stood an entire city, which had seemed to appear out of nowhere. How she had missed it on the horizon, she couldn't figure out, but she didn't much care at this point, and she trudged forward, past the sign that she couldn't read, only hoping that someone in this place had water.

As she walked, she started to wonder if she truly was lucky... it seemed not a single soul lived here, despite the warm glow it seemed to give off. Of all the places to see in this place, she found herself drawn to a large statue, all of which she could not yet see. As she approached, she thought she heard voices, though she couldn't make out what they were saying.

She blinked repeatedly as she got into the clearing around the large statue, an angel perhaps, thinking that she could make out a cat-like woman standing in the dimmer light near the edge of the area. She ignored it, passing it off as the effects of severe dehydration, and turned instead to the man and woman near the stone table at the foot of the statue. "Water?" was all she got out before letting herself fall forward slightly onto one knee, barely managing to keep from passing out.
