Default The reign of Saroun

Red moved through the dark town of Hobbiton or what was left of it, the dark ruins of the once quite and peaceful town were left in utter chaos. The dark one had left his mark all over the land of Middle earth, his hands reached out and touched even the far reaches of the world. Yet the shire was one of the more safer places... if you could call anywhere safe, the dark one had covered the land in darkness and flames, the time of death had come.

None save a few kept from the his shadows, few stood against him still and lived. The hope of life slipped every day, and there foe only grew as the time passed... It was now or never. Red had called upon the last few people in the world who would stand against the dark one, a call to regain hope to push the shadows back and heal the land.

Red called to the Valor with a cry of pain, of sadness and he heard no answer since they had left, his prayers seemed to be in vain. Where had they gone and why had they left them to this fate, no he had the dream, a dream of a land renewed. Red knew this was their last chance to live, and yet it was so close to death, this had to work... had to.

Moving with stealth through the broken land Red picked out the spot he had chosen for this meeting, it was hidden from anyone who was not searching for it. Slipping into a small door Red entered into a good sized hill, it was a old dwelling of a hobbit long since gone into more secret hiding or death. The housing was small and the house left in better tact the the others he had found, if things went to plan this would be where he lead his band in saving the land of Middle earth.

Quickly shutting the door Red made his way lower into the house to the floor below, the stairs were old, but he had become good at sneaking through places like this. The room down stairs was more like a basement for storing things, but after a little bit of moving, and rebuilding it had a single table and a couple of torches which he began to light. On the table there were a couple of paper that held basic plans on starting his war, they were little and would serve only as a outline.

Around the room were three doors, two which held two more rooms, and the other into a hall that held five more rooms, four on the sides and one straight forward. Time was short and Red made sure his weapons were in tact and his head clear, for the time was drawing close for the meeting to start and the fate of the world changed...

William Bunce was on his way to a meeting. This hobbit shifted through the shadows of tree's nearby. He was pratically covered by the undergrowth that had sprung up from the ground; it was paticularily hard to accept, but William was walking on an old road that had been left unmanaged since the fall. Up ahead something caught his attention. There were two large men, both with clubs, sitting by their fire eating some stew and raw carrots.

"Be careful hear old chap!" thought William to himself. "They're perhaps too dimwitted to know, but still, it would be best not to cause any unecessary alarm."

And so William attempted to sneak past the men. This proved to be more difficult then one would expect. Hobbits are masters of sneakyness. In many ways, they could sneak past your right now, and you wouldn't know. The cause of this is due to their smallness, as well as their velvety feet. You may ask "Why, then, did William have difficulty in sneaking pass the men with clubs?". Twigs are the reason. The old beaten track which William happened to be walking on that night was riddled with them. In fact, it was so infested with those small breakable pieces of wood, that one might think that an official organization specifically designed for the cleaning up of twigs on old beaten roads might have been created. So, as you could imagine, the hobbit had made a series of sounds that had alerted the men. Everytime a snap or crack was heard, William had to stop right were he was, not move in any single way, and, with heart pounding, wait for the men to lose attention and resume with their stew and carrots, only to repreat this process over again. Finally, after four tries (you'd think the men would investigate), William made it pass the sentries and progressed up the hill to what was commonly known as Bag End.

Bag End was a famous place in hobbiton. It held many stories of granduer and secrecy. Many believed for the longest time that treasure was stuffed in all the halls of that place; and certianly its owner was of more disputable credentials then the legends. But as everything turned into decay and machinary (the men had brought wretched tools and machines from far off west) Bag End, for the most part, remained untouched. Of course, the unwelcomed invaders did taint the place. Men always long for more power, and, seeing how legends of gold stuffed in the very halls had not passed away when they came, provoked many forgieners on a treasure hunt. Unfortunately, it appeared that the legends were false (although, rumor had it that some people were seen leaving hobbiton with large chest's stacked to the brim with shiney artifacts). So, instead of tearing the place down, the men dugg deeper into the earth and created more rooms. My guess would be the Bag End was meant to be a holding place. Weapons and metals and tools would be placed in their; as well as foods, necessities, and anything else that would prove useful. Interestingly enough, this never came to pass. After a series of barrels being rolled up the hill, nothing else was put in Bag End; eventually, the place became remote and unused.

"There she is!" whispered William. "The least scathed thing of all the Shire! Fitting that I should meet there."

It was, rather appropiate. That the salvation of Middle-Earth would begin in the very spot that many legends and tales would find their beginings as well. But William had no more time to think about this. After looking at the moon, he concluded that he was five minutes late. When planning on overthrowing an oppressive regime, never be late for the first meeting-it sets a terrible reputation for yourself, and the complimentary doughnuts that may or may not be provided, could already be eaten. William, upon walking through the enterance and making his way down the hall, quickly concluded that there would be no complimentary things, little less a doughnut if he knew what that was.
The walls were old. The corners were filled with thick cob webs. There was even a dripping sound coming further up ahead. It was dank there. The air was moist and humid; the place looked completely unkept.

"My goodness gracious!" William thought. "What has happened?"

Neglect-that's about it.

Slowly now, the hobbit decended the stairs (oh how he hated such a thing in a hobbit hole), and made his way past some doors. Finally, a faint light appeared through the crack of a cellar door.

"That must be the place" he thought anxiously.

He extended his hand on the nob, and, slowly pushed the door open. There was a man in there, and Williams heart skipped a beat.

"Hullo? Who are you?"

Red had made everything ready down the stairs, true it was odd to find this more human style in bag inn, but none the less it was to their gain. Red had been thinking about adding a trap door to it, so that they could hide the room from any enemy searchers. The old white wizard did not have the best seekers out there, though they could fight... well some what, in the days of the war he had made a fierce breed of orc luckily enough they were used more in the east to stomp out the rebellion.

Red moved to a candle lit table which was covered with maps and other papers about the movement of the enemy, rumors of other possible spots to use as HQ's and other random things that Red wanted to talk over with his team... that was after he gained a team. As he heard soft foot steps above him Red drew a small dagger and moved to a shadow that hid him at the bottom of the stairs and waited.

The soft foot steps stopped at the head of the stairs for a brief moment before heading down, Red made out the tiny figure of a male hobbit, or a halfling as they might be called. The dark one had had to much hate towards them that he had hunted them down for a season right after the war, then let any who lived keep their lives. The Hobbit voiced his thoughts over Reds and Red shook his head, he had stepped out of the shadows in front of the hobbit "My name is Red Daghul" not his real name, but one that would protect him "leader of this meeting please come in we have much to talk about" with that Red led the way over to the table and motioned to a seat.

William was somewhat wary. It is a very difficult thing to trust a stranger, and the difficulty often increase's when one is found in an enemy occupied land where a rebellion is being poised. It also didn't help that circumstances prevented William from being acquianted with Red over a cup of tea; a much more favorable setting for introductions. But William understood very well the circumstance that faced him-tea itself had been forbidden by Sharky.
William sat.

"Hullo, I am William Bunce. I to have concerns I wish to discuss. Like, how often could I eat? I'm a very delicate hobbit, and would very much like to maintain my regular eating habbits as much as possible."

The gentlemen seemed unamused.

"Um-ahem", said William, catching the mans urgency. "Perhaps we should just dicuss the details."

Red listened to the halfings introduction with a unamused look, of course it is understandable in these times not many things could bring a smile, yet in other times he would be in a much better mood. The Hobbit caught on to the mood of things and moved on "um-ahem, Parhaps we should just discuss the details" Red nodded with a small pinch of pain to his stone heart.... There was a time when he had laughed freely, rode through the fields of his home, he would have time for friends later.

"yes that might be best, I fear we have little time, I am Red Daghul shall we begin" there was not much time, and it seemed that Red and William would be the start of the rebels...

Red took a chair facing the steps with the table in front of him with maps and other papers all over the top "well first thing first, I have 100 men willing to fight for us, they wait hidden in the old forest where the men of darkness fear to go, they await my word to move" Red pointed to the spot on the map where they waited "as you might have guessed one hundred men will do little on the battle field, which is why I have called you hear, I have heard you are good at recruiting, as it is I have even heard Your words and was impressed.... as well I hear you are a master of stealth..." The last part was something of a tag on, with a voice of understanding.

"so as you can see we have a few things that we have to decide, but I have to know that you are all the way in the boat?" Red had to be careful, if the hobbit said no he would not leave the room alive, it was just the way it had to go. "so what do you say?"

William sat on a chair with a rather puzzled look. The Old Forest had always been a place of danger and trickery; yet there was a gentlemen of serious demeanor, who would convince the hobbit that one-hundred men dwelt in the ominous woods, all prepared for an attack. And then there was the request of recruitment. Never in his wildest dreams had William believed himself to be a speaker-but speak he must! If he were to rally support from hobbits all over, and champion the cause of the halfling, William would have to poise secret meetings and put many hobbits in danger.

"I'll do it!" he said. "And I know the exact hobbit who can help me out! Dearest Red, do not only consider me in the boat, but also think of me as a paddler! I will stir the hearts of my people!" At this moment, he jumped on the table, and, with great enthusiasm, continued on as if he were making a war speech.

"Soon! Soon! Soon all the outlandish briggands and doof's will tremble at our resolve! The cause cannot fail! It will not fail! The hobbits will be at the start of the revolution. We will gather along side all free peoples-" the speech had reached it's climax here, as William began to shake violently with a fervor. " And the world will see that a righteous longing cannot be so easily shaken! The Dark will give way to light, the sword will make straight paths for replenishment! The lands will be healed!"

Then, with a flushed face and trembling hands, William looked into the eyes of Red. It was like an anger burned inside the hobbit; both frightening and yet commical to watch.

"What say I, sir?! What say I! Yes! I say Yes! Yes for all peoples who would rid themselves of the weight so unjustly placed on their soilders! Yes for the future generations!" And finally, with as great as resolve and passion as before..."YES FOR ALL THE FOOD AND WEED AND ALE THAT WILL FLOURISH IN OUR LANDS! YES SO THEY WILL NEVER PASS THROUGH THE LIPS OF FORGIENERS AND FIENDS AGAIN!"

With that (and a deep huff from exhaustion) William concluded. He returned to his previous position and pulled out his pipe and waited for more instructions from who he percieved to be the war leader of his cause-and perhaps the greatest war leader of all time.

A man slowly opened the door. The few candles lighting the basement merely lightened the outlines of his figure, yet reflected like mad on the edge of his sword. Without realizing he drew it when he entered the origin of so many tales. Tales known throughout Eriador. Tales that now seemed impossible.

With the opening of the door, wind played with the candles. The candles on their turn, dances with the cold, yet welcome visitor. They embraced the wind in a manner of speaking. As a husband and wife would embrace eachother. It was merely logical. The wind provided the candles with new, fresh oxigen. Then, after a few seconds, they calmed down again as the door closed.

The man, a stranger to these two individuals, but better known as Logan Paragorn, looked at the table. Pieces of paper were scattered across it. Some made sense, others didn't. Most of them were written in the common language, yet some were in strange languages.

''It is unwise to leave the door open while discussing matters like this, especialy in the season of Firith. It is cold outside. Travelers, unwelcome guests, or more specificly unwelcome ears take refuge in warmer places such as this house.''

He slowly sheated the sword in his hand, realizing there was no danger here.

''I am looking for a man known as Red Daghul. Rumor's have spread around the lands of an uproar. I came to find out how much is true.''

Red watched as the hobbit gave his heart stirring speech, and knew he had chosen true for the job, the hobbit had a fire in him and it would strike at the heart of the enemy. As the hobbit finished his speech with a righteous current Red noted two things, neither having to do with the hobbit.

While the hobbit had raise his voice a little there was a under laying sound of feet moving softly over the floors above, anyone thinking they could sneak pass Red's ears had something coming to them. The next thing he noted was the movement of the candles, they danced in the evening as if they were in a Pub during a party.... oh the days where dancing and good laughter could warm a heart... Red quickly drew his knives from his sleeve, though doing so with out raising alarm to the hobbit, this trick he had practiced much. The candles dancing made it known that some one had opened the trap door above, and was descending into the basement.

Red did not move as the man came down the stairs, having moved to stand when the hobbit started his speech and turned his back on the stairs he left his back to the stranger coming. Red knew he would alert the fellow who thought he had skills to sneak up on him.... might as well let him think he had, and if he meant ill then Red's blade would strike him before he knew it, and if not then... well he would have to feel it out.

''It is unwise to leave the door open while discussing matters like this, especialy in the season of Firith. It is cold outside. Travelers, unwelcome guests, or more specificly unwelcome ears take refuge in warmer places such as this house.'' the voice was of a mans, one who was confident in his steps and sure footed, it most times that would not rub well on Red.... but on this day that might just be what he needed.

As Red heard the man sheath his sword he said 'I am looking for a man known as Red Daghul. Rumor's have spread around the lands of an uproar. I came to find out how much is true.'' Red id not turn but answered "now, now it is not wise to sheath Your sword when you feel safe" as Red turned he threw his knife through the air and it stuck into the wood of the wall next to the man... The man would most likely not understand that Red had used the shadows on the ground to judge the throw, but then agian that would give him the upper hand.

"Well now it is a good thing I missed" Red knew he could have hit the man, but then again he wanted the man alive "be wary in these days, you never know what is waiting in places like this... but then again I am sure you know that" Red walked over and grabbed the knife and stepped away and gave a bow "Red Daghul at your service, would it be safe to assume you are here to enroll in my rebellion?". Red held a faint, very faint smile, or was it just a trick of the light, before anyone could tell it was gone.

Red walked back over to the table leaving his back open to attack, to show the man that he was not afraid of anything the man could throw at him "if so then there are a couple of things that we must go over" motioning to the hobbit he said "this is William..." after a brief moment of thinking Red added "maybe best to keep to first names for now, and what shall we call you?" Red waited for the answer glad once again for another good man at his side.

Lohan smiled. The small yet deadly knife has scamped his arm before settling in the wall. It had only cut trough the cloth of his arm, but the signal was obvious enough. Even to a baby.

He slowly made a step backwards, and examined the knife in the wall. It was not decorated, but it was obvious it was one of the best pieces of craftmanship Lohan had ever seen. It demanded respect by just looking at it. Judging by the depth of the blade the man was used to throwing knifes. A common yet usefull ability. Lohan himself, as his friends kept reminding him, was terrible at throwing knifes. He even managed to hit himself once while aiming at someone else. The memory of his failure at that specific area made him smile even more.

He threw his own, small and rusty knife towards the table, giving his memory another shot. By luck it hit the wood at the right angle, and settled into the soft, sturdy wood. Oak.

''Wise words, as expected from people who gather in the shadows. Secretly meeting. Only most people forget that blades are as good as their masters. If the masters are good enough, they won't need the blades. - He grinned because of his small joke. - But then again. I'm not nearly fast enough to catch a knife with my bare hands.''

Lohan looked at Red as he pulled the knife out of the wall. The man had characteristics of a leader. If he knew that he had them, that was a different question, but he certainly would be capable of leading a small group. Maybe even a large, very large group over time.

The newly arived man, Lohan, accepted the bow, and made a small bow of his own. ''My name is...Lohan. Lohan Paragorn. Son of Alvaris Paragorn. My father is one of the Watchman of the lands of Andrast, in the western part of Gondor. As you have guessed, i have come to offer you my sword. Anyone mad enough to try what you are doing is worthy of my respect. - While saying these words, he drew his sword and softly placed it on the table. The faded writings on it softly sparkled, indicating it was a very old sword. - So, as you have guessed, i am indeed with you.''

Red gave a nod towards the blade to say he wanted to check the blade, it was of fine make, and had a look of age. Picking up the metal blade he held it by the hilt "it has good weight, well balanced, no doubt a fine weapon all around" Red gave it a couple of test strokes bring the blade through the air with skill "I can only hope that the wielder knows how to use such a tool" he gave a respectful nod and handed the blade back to him rather then letting it sit on the table.

"If you would please join us" indicting a chair he himself took a seat "as I was just telling William I have one hundred men willing and waiting in the old forest... The valor bless us with good tidings that the darkness in these lands have yet to touch that place" Red pointed the a map where the forest was placed "though it gives us shelter for the moment I fear it will not last, and we will have to move soon" Red pointed to Bree "as you said rumors spread through the land, not to many as I have not been able to stop from getting to people that would cause us harm, and yet there is still a rumor of men moving in the woods" he moved his hand from the map.

Picking his hand up he pointed to a small camp right out side the woods "this is a small slave camp, they are cutting down the forest and using the wood to build a fort not far from Bree, if not around the city itself" Red took a second to gather his thoughts "Even though the threat level is low to them, the people of Bree, or the people who have taken the city mostly dark men and orcs, fear that other clans and groups will take what land they have" Red pointed out a couple of places that might have that idea "this is good for us, they will not expect a attack from the woods themselfs"

Red looked to the two men "My hundred men could take the camp easy, but keeping it will be a problem, we will need more men... The men in the camp will be a start, but I will need the two of you to arm them, and help me get them ready for battle.... are there any questions?" Red needed to hurry the night would soon end, he could feel it.
