Kel took the small container that the man who accompanied the scaled creature handed her with a nod. "My hands should be deft enough," she agreed and scooped some of the minty smelling concoction out with her fingers as she peeled off the rag so that she could care to the wound. It looked pretty nasty, but the man seemed well enough given the circumstances.

~Be careful~ Eango warned at her side as he sniffed at the man's wound without getting too close. ~Something smells acidic. You might burn yourself if you touch his arm.~

~Well at least I'll already have the ointment on then won't I?~ she joked, though it was half-hearted as she was trying to focus on the task at hand. She applied the stuff thoroughly to anywhere that was burned or lacerated. Luckily whatever had burned him was gone enough so that it had no ill effect on her. She wiped her hands off on her breeches when she finished and then straightened to her full height.

This trip to Aeolida had already become more eventful than her last couple. Granted, there were many more ways she would have liked to have more excitement than to have someone get attacked, but at least it was something. Maybe they would finally find something to do worth their while this time around. The pair hadn't even been to any other worlds other then their own and this one for a solid four months now. Serving the Blessed Lady was hard when they were outside of Kodu Riik and there were no tasks more important than just being present in the rare instance that someone would need to speak with a representative of her world.

But now, listening to what the man named Falco had to say about ancient Artifacts and dragons, Kel was beginning to believe that everything was about to change. True, her world did have dragons, though they all resided in Patvermese since magic was blocked in her country. She had not, however, heard of Dragonkind Orbs before, but then again she had never really been interested in history or lore. She liked to learn the things she thought would be far more useful, though now it seemed she had gotten that a tad bit wrong.

When the man asked for help she turned towards Eango for a moment. It only took a look into each other's eyes for them to come to a consensus. They knew what the Lady needed them to do. The fate of Kodu Riik could very well depend on who possessed those Artifacts. She looked back at Falco with a confident grin, her dimples creasing her cheeks, and said, "I'm Keladry and my companion is Eango. We will do everything in our power to help you succeed in your mission."

Lander listened to Falco's story, still trying to digest what had just happened. He had seen some things in his life, but where he came from, people didn't appear from thin air, there were no magic orbs, and dragons were only found in fairy tales...

"Hold on," he said after the man finished speaking. "If this place really is some sort of...crossroads between different worlds, then couldn't you just go somewhere where that guy couldn't find you? Some other world, far away?"

He had sensed the wrongness of the cloaked figure, a vileness that surpassed anything he had ever felt before. He had the sickening feeling even as he asked the question that a thing like that could somehow follow you wherever you went, and wouldn't stop hunting you until it got what it wanted.

Back on his own world, there was probably some kind of bounty on his head by now. And then there was the problem of a few acquaintances of his who seemed to be under the impression that he owed them large sums of money. Going back there didn't look like an option.

It didn't seem like he had much choice, if what this man Falco was saying was true, other than to fight this thing, whatever it was. Plus, despite the apparant danger involved, Lander had never been one to pass up an adventure, and possibly a little fame and glory as well. The mention of artifacts of power had peaked his interest. Perhaps there was something to be gained from all this. Despite the weirdness of the whole situation, he was intrigued.

He was surprised when the first one who spoke was the nervous man who had been looking fidgety and guarded ever since he had entered the inn. He was even more surprised when the man volunteered his help.

"Seems like refusal isn't really an option," he said, "Name's Lander. I'm in."

Athradien replaced the jar in an unknown place around the back of his cloak, an odd clicking sound reverberating faintly as he stood up, listening to Falco's story. As the first two accepted to join them in their journey, Athradien immediately turned to Bane, looking at him as he spoke.

"Athradien Greitor... Myself and Bane will follow you on your endevour..." His voice seemed rather agitated about something, this mainly being due to the fact he wasn't able to at least wound the dark one before they faded away. He looked at each of them, a stern look on his face. When he got a chance, he would speak with this Falco and attempt to drive as much information as he could get about the dark figure they had just encountered.

He hadn't realized his knife was still in his hand, he then tapped the end of the hilt with his pinkie finger, making it spin on his index finger for a few revolutions before he caught it, and replaced it in the sheath inside of his cloak around his lower back.

The talk of dragons and orbs and such were of little interest to either Athradien or Bane, the evil they felt had been the same they had sensed on their world... It was unmistakable.

Bane sneezed one more time then shook his head, seemingly ridding himself of the fit he was having. He wrinkled his nose and shook his head slightly, looking around at the people as Athradien had introduced him. They both seemed to have a mysterious air about them, though if it was dangerous or advantageous none could really tell.

Kokenshiu returned as the last man, Athradien, was introducing himself. The Yaksa was flanked on either side by the other two who had accompanied him. A simple shake of the head indicated that they had been unable to trace the magic. Something in his expression told Yoshe that they weren’t even sure what kind of magic it had been.

She wasn’t surprised about that, though. Dragon lore on her world was older than any living Yaksa that Yoshe was aware of, and some of them could live to be nearly a thousand years old, by human reckoning. She was a little surprised that the other wardens thought they could find anything at all.

Even still, seeing a dragon here had produced an instinctual response, so frightened as a child by stories of what an angry dragon was capable of.

"Ahema, nam," Yoshe said to Kokenshiu. It was a question of what the next action should be. A brief council took place almost directly over the heads of the other patrons, in a language that none of them had been exposed to. The tone of the conversation pitched upward until Yoshe clearly sounded irritated and Kokenshiu at the end of his patience, then abruptly ended when Yoshe turned in the air and glared down at Falco.

"I am to go, too," she declared. "Rest of mine," she indicated the other Yaksa wardens, "return to Haedayr they will do, to try and find if there be another orb there, but I stay to help." Yoshe sighed, a pathetic, defeated expulsion of pent up frustration. "You call me Yoshe," she said, then held out her hand for Falco to shake. What a strange custom this is...

Falco nodded to each of them as they introduced themselves and returned Yoshe's handshake despite having to reach up at an angle with his good arm to reach her hand.

"It was my intention to find a world to hide the Orb in, but considering the circumstances it is safest in my possession. If I knew the name of the cloaked man, I would attempt a scrying to locate him, but that is not an option at the moment. We do have one lead: the cloaked man mentioned the name 'Fruendithas' before disappearing. I will attempt to search the Imperial Library tomorrow for references to the name. Hopefully, I will be able to turn up some information that will aid us in finding the cloaked figure. Any of you are welcome to help me. If any of you possess another means of gathering information, feel free to pursue it. We can meet back here later in the afternoon, perhaps three? I cannot be certain that he will not attempt to attack me again, though, although I am hoping that by being in Inner City he will be dissuaded against further action, at least for a while. I have already taken a room here in the Inn, so I will go now to retire. I suggest you all do the same soon. I almost forgot, if you have to reach me in the room before the morning, please announce yourself in some identifiable way before entering. You have been warned. Good night."

With those last words, Falco stood from the table an bowed slightly. He gripped his upper left arm in his right hand and carefully made his way to the back of the Inn where the rooms were located. He remained awake for a few minutes, casting some sort of ward. His last thoughts before slipping into sleep were It have not allied myself with such a diverse group since the days of the Sol Army. I wish it were under better circumstances...

(Upon further review of previous post, I came to the realization that it was too open ended to do much with, so instead I'll move us along a bit so we can get to the character interaction part.)

Early the next morning, Falco awoke with a jolt which jerked his left arm, and he grunted in pain. "I knew I should have asked him to teach me a healing spell..." Falco muttered as he stood from the bed.

He left the Inn quietly when the sky was still dark and his new found comrades were likely still sleeping. Although he had asked for their help, Falco believed he still had to bear the brunt of this burden. There was no sense in waking his allies up early when he could just as easily research in the Imperial Library by himself. Before long he reached Inner City and the Imperial Library.

Falco found himself in a spectacular building towering above most of Aeolida's other buildings. Despite its grand size, the interior was stylized in a more old-fashioned tone. The black and white marble floors were covered with red carpeting in many places. An assortment of fine crafted wooden desks and chairs were located throughout the building. The walls were either covered with rows of bookshelves or paintings from various different worlds, holding true to Aeolida's diversity. Inlisting some aid from a record keeper know as Davus, Falco was able to find some information on Fruendithas within a few hours of searching.

"Intriguing..." was Falco's only response before leaving the Library to make the arrangements.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

"He is royalty," was Falco's greeting as he walked back into the Inn at three and saw his allies waiting for him. "His Highness Fruendithas Serpenthelm from the world Nibano. He has good relations with Aeolida selling plots of his land to the various travelers. He is here in Aeolida visiting. I have already sent a message to him expressing out great interest in purchasing a plot directly from him, although I was surprised when he agreed to see us on such short notice. He probably realizes we want to see him for other reasons then to buy land. He is in the Inner City at a hotel. If we walk there, we should arrive just on time."

(Feel free to talk while we travel to the hotel. Furthermore, any of you are welcome to add features of Aeolida into the roleplay. You can also describe us arriving at the hotel, what it looks like, and control Fruendithas' NPC servants (he is a king, after all), but I will control him myself.)

Athradien had been up before everyone else, even Falco. The only difference was the fact he hadn't walked out of his room. In fact, he had been awake most of the night due to an insomnia which was more or less self induced due to deep thought. Bane had slept like a log, off in a corner he had picked in the room due to his own reasons Athradien had yet to figure out. Athradien had left the room silently and went to sit at one of the plethora of tables in the Inn, and had been sitting there not really speaking to anyone who had shown up. He seemed like he was in a shitty mood.

Just before Falco had come down, Bane had woken up and calmly walked down the stairs, though his steps were on the clumsy side. They nodded to each other, acknowledging each other before Athradien leaned back in his chair, Bane flopping on the ground next to the chair, his head held high though as he inspected everyone in the Inn. Athradien had his fingers laced around the point where his chest turned to his stomach, his chin pulled closer to his chest and his eyes closed.

When Falco entered, he didn't act like he really noticed him, though he entirely did. He took in every word and repeated them in his head, almost committing them to memory. He stood up, slowly, "Such haste to meet us cannot be good..." He stood next to the door almost like a sentry, "Be ready for something... this could potentially not turn out well..." He leaned against the door sill, tilting his head slightly to the side, his arms and legs crossed.

Bane looked to Athradien, then nodded to agree with him. They had both seen too much to not expect something out of the ordinary at times like these, especially after yesterday.

Lander paid for a room for the night at the inn with the credit he had gotten from the greeter earlier that day. When he entered he sat down on the bed, then, remembering that he was still covered in dirt and grime and sand, he decided that he would take a bath. The room had a small attached bathroom with a plumbing system far more advanced than anything he had ever seen before. He flipped a metal switch and water began to gush out of a gleaming pipe. He took off one of his boots and tilted it to let a bunch of sand fall out of it onto the floor.

When he awoke the next morning there was a moment of confusion as he tried to remember where he was. Then he looked out the window and saw the gleaming towers that told him that he was on Aeolida, this strange new world that he had stumbled upon yesterday.

Lander, exhausted and enjoying the luxery of sleeping in a bed, which he didn't often get, had slept a long time. He spent some time wandering around some of the markets and shops before going back to the inn to wait for Falco.

A King...I knew there was money involved in this, Lander thought after hearing Falco's words. He had to agree with Athradien's warning, however. It was pretty convenient that this guy happened to be in Aeolida at this time, especially considering what happened yesterday. He kept his thoughts to himself, ready to follow the rest of them.

Keladry woke with the sun, just like she did every morning, and Eango was, just like he did every morning, staring at her with little to no patience. ~Finally~ he drawled as he stretched out lazily from his spot next to her bed. ~If our consciences weren't linked I would have thought you had fallen into a coma.~

"Ah ha, very clever," she responded sarcastically as she rolled herself out of bed and then stepped over his mass to get to her comb sitting on the small dresser across the room. "I'd tell you I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, Your Highness, but it'd be a lie." She heard a huff from behind her and smiled before she started to brush out her hair and then put it into a braid. She hated having it loose during the day. It always got in her face and, despite its light color, made neck and shoulders hot when she was in the sun for any decent length of time. That and, she supposed, it was harder for someone to grab at if she just happened to get into a fight.

After finishing her routine Kel went down stairs into the tavern portion of the inn. She stopped at the bottom of the stairs a moment when she saw that Athradien was already up, contemplating on whether or not she should go talk with him. She admitted that she was curious as to the extent of his relationship with Bane. They seemed to have something like what she shared with Eango and it had her wondering if their were Ahalad-Kaaslane on other worlds, or at least something very similar.

But she decided not to bother him at the moment because he seemed... well, not in a chatty kind of mood. So instead she went back into the kitchens to beg breakfast for herself and Eango off of one of the cooks. She stayed there for a good while after she was done eating to converse with and help the staff. They ended being very lively companions and had her in stitches before no time with their wicked jokes and dirty humor. Eango was even enjoying the banter, listening intently and adding in comments that his human counterpart repeated out loud so that everyone could hear them.

Keladry and Eango did, however, part ways with the kitchen staff when they started to make preparations for the dinner rush so that they wouldn't distract them. It was good timing too, because not ten minutes later Falco came through the door and announced they had an audience with that Fruendithas fellow. "Well, that doesn't seem like a trap at all," she added with a sarcastic dryness to her voice, "I'm surprised he didn't ask us to come unarmed, but I suppose that would make his intentions terribly obvious."

Yoshe had retired after the events of the night before with no shortage of frustration and ire. When all the wardens gathered in the room that they had rented, Yoshe let loose, yelling at Kokenshiu in her own tongue.

"Why did you assign me to stay here?! You know how much I hate being here, how much I always want to get back home as quick as possible! Isshka!"

"I am assigning this to you," Kokenshiu answered in a level voice, "because I trust in your head a bit more than most of the other wardens, here or at home."

"What the hell does that mean," Yoshe demanded.

"It means that I know you can think on the fly and are much more adaptable to changing circumstances than most people that I know," Kokenshiu said, still calm. Yoshe seemed to cool a little. This wasn’t something that she knew he thought of her–it wasn’t even something that she tended to think of herself. In fact, she thought quite the opposite, given how she had yet to ‘adapt’ to coming to Aeolida so frequently. "In any case," Kokenshiu said into the pause, "this isn’t open for debate and I’m not changing my mind. I suggest you sleep, in case your new supervisor has need of you early."

With an acquiescent grumble, Yoshe complied and forced herself to sleep early.

The next morning, Yoshe rose about an hour after the sun had arisen. The others were also waking, and the wardens shared a breakfast of foods that they’d brought from Haedayr. By the time the sun was two whole hand-spans off of the horizon, the others had left and Yoshe was alone, the only member of her species on Aeolida.

Apparently, Falco had left before Yoshe left her room. When she came out shortly before lunch time, he was nowhere to be found. None of the other ‘companions’ seemed worried, though, so she didn’t worry either. In fact, the others seemed to be completely nonchalant about it. Yoshe thought it odd, but wrote it off as another quirk of the human-types that were so prolific in the universe (it amazed her how many worlds had these creatures, and with so few variations). Observing the others became her kill-time for the next several hours until Falco returned. She noted how the two with beasts at their sides seemed able to communicate with them rather articulately, and the third had filled his day by not being at the tavern. Again, she thought it odd that he would be out and about when the leader of their party could return at any time.

When Falco did return, everyone was present for it. He explained the situation, and Yoshe listened to the discussion that came up around it. She had to add her own thoughts, though. In her own culture, it was polite to always give another party the benefit of the doubt.

"Maybe it could be," she said slowly from above everyone’s heads, "he just is anxious to meet?" She looked at each party member. "Maybe he just want to sell his land fast as he is able, or maybe he has his own trouble and hopes for us helping him?" As an afterthought, she added, "but still should have caution, all of us." Never make assumptions.
