Jayson Karmody became the senior partner of Al Radwell four years ago. He graduated top of his class and usually excelled in everything he tried to do. His only failure in life was trying to "change" the unhealthy habits of his partner.
He held on for dear life as Al went through the streets as if she were driving in the arcade, playing racing or any game to that effect in a computer simulated world. She was only a hair away from breaking every traffic law ever conceived in the world. And he always prayed to God that this wasn't the last ride he would ever experience in the world. He tried telling her, of course that she drove like a damned maniac but she just snorted at him and besides, conversation was something impossible when she drove the car. First of all, he did not want to distract her from the thing she called driving that she was barely doing properly, secondly, she always played music that threatened to destroy both speaker and eardrum. She invented the rule that whoever drove had control over what played on the radio. Not that she always drove the car. They divided the duty fair and square as she would say it. She would always drive away from the station and he would drive towards it... unless it rained in which case he fought tooth and nail for the wheel. They reached the school safely, thank the Lord and they walked into the school entrance. They did the usual rock-paper-scissors to determine who got to be the good cop and the bad cop. Of course, for reasons that were always beyond him, she won again and decided to be bad cop, as usual. They walked inside the hallways and were directed towards the classroom. Jayson sleeked back his hair and was annoyed at the length of it. His hair grew so fast he had to have it cut every week. It was a hassle but it had to be done. Long hair made him not look like a cop but a walking ad for some shampoo. They saw the inside of the classroom and saw the woman teacher in front. Al elbowed him then grinned and winked at him. "We're in luck. This one's a girl and usually you smile at them and give them your puppy dog eyes look and they're talking. It's a good thing you're the good cop huh? But then it doeasn't usually make a difference, they still fawn--" He spoke over her as the woman approached them enough to hear her. "Good afternoon miss, I am Detective Jayson Karmody and this is my partner Drusilla Radwell." His lips twitched when he noticed her cringe at her name. He extended a hand. "We've gotten clearance from your principal about this interview. Can we go somewhere more quiet?" "This is about the missing students, I understand one of them is your student?" Al continued. "Can you tell us about him?"

" Bye mister Kawolski! " A blond boy shouted as he finished knotting a news paper. He waved his hand at the elderly owner of the newspaper stand as he took his bike and rode off for school.
Ren raised his hand Ren, your typical hardworking student, has just finished his early rounds of new paper delivery and was heading to school. He took his daily shortcut across town. As he took the turn across the corner near the flower shop, an unusual shiver went down the boy's spine. He pulled over and looked at the display window. Behind the roses and petunias on display, he could see two golden eyes staring back at him, an ominous smile underneath them. He shrugged off the thought and looked again. Nothing. The boy looked forward and headed off to school. It was his first class of the day. He went inside and saw the teacher did not arrive yet. Ren took his seat on the second row on the front. A new teacher, a miss [slash]elryde's character[/slash] Lyca Ashvrn, a pretty girl but someone who you do not want to cross judging from what she did to Dave, the guys sitting in the back who crossed her by making a bottle-shape outline in front of her. " Oh great. Another disappearance. " Ren heard one of the guy's behind whispering to his seat mate. " I guess times really aren't safe nowadays. " Ren shrugged. He had several part time jobs and these disappearances wasn't making it easier for him. The boy looked at the teacher before glancing something near the window. A woman with long blond hair, much lighter than Ren's orange-yellow hair, walked pass as a police car did the same. Except this time, the woman stopped and turned around. She looked at Ren with that same smirk he saw from the flower shop. Ren raised his hand " Uhh... Miss Ashvrn! There's a lady outside the window. " He took a look at the window again and saw the woman wave at the teacher. Oddly enough, non of the other students noticed the woman's presence on the window.

Shrinking into his seat Steve sighed heavily glad that the teacher had been distracted by the girls jabbering at the window. He couldn’t tell what they were talking about, but soon figured it out when two officers opened the door and asked for in private.
Looking at his desk he watched as his pencil suddenly slid across the desk; possibly a small tremor? Fixing his pencil he put it back in line with the other two, he liked to put his pencils in a row occasioanly; but sometimes he was just random and made stick pictures out of different size pencils, usually pictures of snakes. " Uhh... Miss Ashvrn! There's a lady outside the window. " Turning around to see who could possibly be outside of the window, he looked but didn’t see anything. Steve wasn’t really surprised he couldn’t see her, Ren had always been one to see things that others couldn’t. Turning back around, he waited silently at his desk; Pulling out a piece of paper, he resumed his snake doodles; sometimes he could swear his drawings hissed at him, but figured it was his own wild imagination. |

"-woman by the window!" Ren said. Lyca turned to see and saw nothing out of the ordinary though she certainly felt something. Dismissing it as her imagination she just shook her head at Ren and went to meet the officers.
"Good afternoon miss, I am Detective Jayson Karmody and this is my partner Drusilla Radwell. We've gotten clearance from your principal about this interview. Can we go somewhere more quiet?" "This is about the missing students, I understand one of them is your student?" The female officer, Drusilla continued. "Can you tell us about her?" "Miranda? Yes, I knew her. She wasn't my student per se. She was more an employee of sorts. I was -am her senior in the library workforce," Leigh explained after shaking hands with the officers. The class behind her were starting whisper a little too loudly. "Please wait a moment, I'll be with you in a sec." Lyca sent her class the evil eye and they grew quiet. She headed for the teacher's desk and gathered most of her things. She didn't like to think of what would happen to her belongings when left behind. Students were devious after all, especially when left alone. "Anna," she called for one of the female students in front. Handing over some papers, she addressed the class, "Anna will be writing on the board questions pertaining to last meeting's lessons. I'd like you to write neatly this time else I'll be labeling your scrawls a zero. One sheet will do." She heard groaning. "You may open your notes-" Lyca heard sighs of relief then continued, "-not that it would you help you unless you wrote everything word for word." She heard more groaning. An eyebrow went up and though her face was admittedly angelic, the look in her eyes brooked no arguments. Nodding in satisfaction she slung her bag on her shoulder and walked towards the officers. "The cafeteria should be mostly empty at this time. I'm just a student teacher," she explained as they headed down the hallway. "but they allow us our breaks in the teacher's lounge, it'll be more private there." In all honesty, only she was allowed as Mr. T being Mr. T they had taken pity on her plight and allowed her to use the lounge whenever she had breaks between periods. Arriving at the lounge, Lyca waved for them to sit. "I'll get you some some coffee. I'm sorry that it's the only one refreshment we have other than water." Officer Karmody spoke. " Water will be fine for-" "Just him. I'll take the coffee," his partner broke in. Lyca nodded and headed for the filling station. As she prepared the drinks (water for her too), Lyca couldn't help but assess the officers. The female, Drusilla, came of as a tomboy and hard talking while her partner was sort of nice. Lyca, however, couldn't get the feeling that she just didn't like him. Which was odd, him being a nice enough looking officer and all. Watching them, she could see they were arguing and as she came close with the drinks, she heard mutterings about "unhealthy" and "drink too much". Lyca couldn't help but smile. They were like siblings arguing over the smallest of things. Sitting down, Lyca held onto her water and waited for the interview to begin. |

Inside class 3-b, Anna was having a rough time keeping peace in the class. They were getting restless and bored having finished the activity Ms. Ashvrn had given them. All it took was her evil eye to make them do and finish up the activity in no time.
Dave suddenly stood and said, “I declare a break. Teach isn’t gonna be here yet anyway.” Others nodded and began chatting away loudly while the rest brought out whatever and began reading, playing with their handhelds and what not. Anna just sat there, praying. Please don’t let her come without warning. --- The officers got settled in their seats. Officer Karmody brought out a notepad. Just like the ones on TV. Lyca had already been previously interviewed except last time it was done by her boss and the dean of Miranda's college. This wasn’t really the same. Lyca was just bothered that it took a week before Miranda was finally reported as missing. Now that the police were finally involved, she could only assume that the others had been spoken to already and that Miranda would be found soon. Clearing his throat, the officer began the interview. “When was the last time you saw Ms. Byers?” Lyca didn’t even look at him. She preferred looking at his partner, despite the woman’s glaring and abrasive manner. Ever since her psych class last semester she’d been interested in people’s personalities. Officer Karmody on the other hand seemed so average despite the good looks. Also, he got on her nerves just sitting there despite this being their first meeting. Looking down at her water Lyca tried to recall the date. “The last time was…the day before I started my teaching practicum.” “And the precise date is…?” Officer Radwell asked coarsely. Lyca paid it no heed. She liked the woman and didn’t really feel any of the animosity she was showing. “Two weeks ago. X-Month, O-day.” Officer Karmody wrote down the date. “What was she like? Her personality, I mean.” “Very shy. She didn’t speak much but she listened well. Her academic record was very good so I can tell she was studious. All the reading she did also explains that.” “Listened well? Meaning…?’ Radwell asked, eyes staring straight into her own. Lyca wasn’t fazed…much. “I mean she followed everything the said about the rules of the library, about what to do during her shift, and she only ever needed to be corrected once before she got the hang of her job.” “So she was a hard worker?” Karmody asked. “Yes, she was -is. Also, she was a great help during the arranging of the new shipment of books last time.” “Did she maybe think she was working too hard and so ran off?” Radwell asked pointedly. Lyca looked straight into the officer’s eyes. “I don’t think so, Officer Drusilla.” She didn’t miss the cringe. “She was –is a nice girl who wanted the work, and maybe the discount in her school fees…But mainly, it was because she loves books and every time I checked the register/check-out list, Miranda was always checking out books…” Lyca trailed off and frowned into her water. “Checking out books…?” Karmody repeated. “That day…I don’t recall seeing her name on the list. I don’t think she checked out anything. I had thought that maybe would do so after her night class but…” “But she didn’t?” “No. Ah!” Lyca waved her hands in dismissing gesture. “It might be nothing. She just may not have finished the others she’d borrowed previously.” “I see. Alright then. Thank your time, Ms. Ashvrn.” Karmody tucked in his notepad and put out his hand to shake. Lyca just smiled gathered their cups, saying, “You’re welcome Officer Karmody.” She nodded to his partner, “Officer Radwell.” This time shook hands with Officer Radwell. Inside she was appalled. She was being rude to the other officer. He seemed like a nice guy –your average boy next door, who just happened to be a cop which should mean more points to him. Lyca believed in justice and admired the police even. But still…she just didn’t like him. As they headed down the hall, Lyca followed them to the school entrance and watched them leave. They were bickering again. Her hearing was strangely beyond average so, despite the distance, she heard. “She doesn’t like you, Mr. Good Cop.” Radwell said. “Says the lousy Bad Cop,” he countered. “I declare a break. Teach isn’t gonna be here yet anyway.” Dave had announced to the entire class.Ren just shook his head as nearly everyone else went off. He took out his note book and began reading his notes.
As he was half-way through his Calculus equations, a finger pushed down his note book. The lad looked up to see who it was. To his surprise, it was that woman he saw smiling outside the window. Ren jumped in surprise and fell back. " Are you alright? " the woman peered down and smiled at the boy. " W-who are you?! " Ren pointed at her. " Oh me? My name Akari. " She placed her hand out to the boy. " Wait... You're not real, you're just a hallucination! " the lad shook his head and knocked on it. " If I close my eyes you'll disappear... " " I'm not an illusion you silly boy... " " Hey Ren. Who's this? Your sister? " Anna asked. She had stayed behind to fix whatever the students did and to wait for miss Ashvrn. " Yes! I'm Ren-Ren's biiig sister. " Akari pulled Ren from the floor and began embracing him, more like trying to suffocate him on her chest. All Ren could do was squirm as he tried to escape his " older sister's " hug.

“Hey no matter how I frowned she just looked at me and smiled. There’s something about you though that ticked her right off. She didn’t like you at all. What do you think? She lesbian or something?” Al whispered as she dug out her Polo roll.
Karmody was looking at the other names of their interviewees. He read the name Amel Stevens before what his partner said sank in. He stopped walking and stared hard at her. “What is up with you and the idea that if a girl doesn’t like me she’s a lesbian? Or that if a boy doesn’t happen to like a good looking woman he’s gay?” Al crunched on the Polos in her mouth before grinning at him. “Are you sure you wanna know?” “Christ I just walked into that one. Of course you got it from that cousin of yours, what was her name? Kundiman?” He walked ahead and led them out of the high school building and into a walkway to the next. “We’ve to face it Karmody, if someone isn’t attracted to her somehow there is something wrong with them. You’ve seen her, you’ve dated her, you should know what I’m talking about. Even if Trace sees her I’d have my doubts if he doesn’t spare the woman a look. We’ve a date tonight by the way.” He opened his mouth to answer but changed his mind. He shook his head and began reading the list again, ignoring her. She’d probably beat up her boyfriend if he so much as sniffed in another woman’s direction. She can be really territorial that way. “Aren’t you acting just a little bit bitter? Oh wait, what should I expect, you got dumped. Who’s dumb enough to get dumped by her and not feel bitter?” “You’re starting to sound exactly like her Drusilla.” He warned. Her eye twitched at her name but she smiled at him. “I’m sorry. You probably dumped her because she was such a high maintenance girl.” She took the list from him and looked at it. “I still don’t understand why three pairs of shoes aren’t enough for her. I don’t want to understand why she spends so much on them considering she only wears them at least twice only. You know what? I think if I sold all her pairs I’d be filthy rich.” “She wasn’t all that bad. She was just really...” he paused, looking for a redeeming quality. “Beautiful.” He finished and looked at Al at a loss. She laughed out loud as they entered the new building. Her phone vibrated and she was still chuckling as she fished it out. “It’s Trace,” she looked at him. “Go ahead and take it, I’ll talk to the dean to get the students in. Let’s meet in the lobby.” “Hello?” she answered smiling as she strode out of the building for a quiet spot. **** Karmody was walking back to the lobby when he saw a group assembling in the school’s lobby. They all looked up at the television where a somber faced newscaster began telling all of them of a certain catastrophe. Karmody would have listened if he didn’t catch sight of a worried looking Al jogging towards him. “What happened?” he asked. “There’s been a huge Earthquake in South East Asia, they’re worried about possible tidal waves. Trace and the gang are getting ready to fly out.” She bit her lip worriedly and rubbed her forehead as if a headache currently plagued it. Trace was a trained search and rescue officer and he usually got pulled out on missions like this. “Too bad the date didn’t happen huh?” Al cut her eyes at him and elbowed him. She was worried, somehow uncharacteristically about the whole mission. There was something about it that bothered her and put her immediately on guard. Especially when they said that the epicenter of the earthquake happened to be called Mount Makiling. She bit her tongue to stop herself from stopping Trace. He’d probably pitch a fit since he never made an issue out of her going out on dangerous missions. It wasn’t the lost date that bothered her, it was why it was lost. She, however, recognize her partner’s attempt to somehow cheer her up. “Shut up. It’s too bad I didn’t get laid. Again. Now where’s the classroom they got for us and the student interviewees? I bet they’re all already waiting there.”

Steve had no problem keeping himself occupied while the teacher was gone, his doodles kept his preoccupied; while his imagination kept the pictures lively and life like. Putting his assignment on the front desk he, erased some of the scribbles of the front; leaving only the ones in the back. Heading back to his desk he felt sad for the overly controlling Anna. Sitting down he looked around the class one of the fellow students wanted to go, but he wouldn’t leave; not because of Anna, just because he had never ditched and wouldn’t know what to do with himself.
Shifting in his seat Steve kept his pencil tight in his grip pretending it was a bully and he was snuffing them out like an anaconda; he knew the thought was wrong, but it felt so normal o him when he got lost in his weird thoughts. Even though he wasn’t bulky he loved going to the wrestling club and sparing a few times, he even one a few ties even though the partner was usually too startled by his method to give up; they would just lie motionless… Looking up he snapped out of his thoughts, but seeing as the situation in the class hadn’t changed he went back to day dreaming. His eyes appeared glossy to anyone looking at him, and so dilated they would think he was on drugs; but he dint care since he didn’t know that he looked like this. Then his stomach rumbled and he was once again returned to normalcy. He had his lunch box with him, so he grabbed it and began to take out his carrot sticks, celery, tofu, cheese, and an apple. Grabbing the cheese stick he shoved it down his throat not bothering to swallow. Reaching for the tofu square he shoved those down his throat without chewing either; next going for the celery and the carrots which he ate with the same un orthodox habits he had done with the previous foods. Lastly was the apple, but he hesitated slightly, when he saw some of the other students looking at his for some reason; taking a bite of the apple he swallowed it cautiously, wondering why the other students were looking at him. |

Lyca was thinking of going back to class but her target had made an appearance. Mr. T was walking right past the gym doors only a few meters away. No time for the door. If he spots me, he's gonna run. (This actually happened the one time she'd seen him exiting the school gates.) Backing up a couple steps Lyca rushed forward and jumped over the window sill. She landed on soft grass thanking fashion for free flowing skirts and God since the area here wasn't a garden project and she didn't inadvertently destroy someone's grades.
Unfortunately her jump was heard. Mr. T stared at his student teacher, who stared straight back. Shit! Mr. T was running and heading for the gates. "Stop!" Lyca cursed her belongings. If she didn't have to be careful with them, she'd have outrun the teacher already. Damn! He's getting away! Not caring if the wind was lifting her skirt to her just above the knees. She was a born runner, no way in hell was an escapist teacher getting away from her. Hell seemed to take affront. It got in the way care of the principal's cats running in front of her and with their claws outstretched. Mr. T had turned the corner on the gate and Lyca just knew she'd lost him when the bell rang. A crowd of University students were already going past the gate. Why the hell was the high school's canteen much better than theirs. Mt. T was surely lost in the crowd. Growling at the cats, she engaged in a hissing match with them before she remembered her students. Crap. She hadn't realized so much time had passed since this morning. Running back to her building, she jumped over the sill again and didn't notice her fellow faculty and student alike staring as she ran for her room. She slid to a stop before her classroom door. She'd just made it, the second bell still hadn't rang. Opening the door, she walked in and held chaos before her. "What," she paused, "is going on?" An older student seemed to have been chatting up with some girls while hugging Ren. Seth was eating food and the rest of the class were seated here and there, the chairs all in array and facing wherever. "Anna, the papers." Anna quickly brought them forward and ran back to her seat. "You, fix the tables. None of you are leaving the room till your chairs are fixed and lined straight." Lyca felt the stares. She turned her back to them and fixed their quiz papers neatly. Lyca stopped the motion. She was wondering where the hell that last comment came from and now she was fixing the papers a little too neatly. Telling them to straighten the seats was just fine but ordering them to line them up straight? What was she, a neat freak? She never cared before. Lyca snapped out of her pondering when the second bell rang. Morning period was officially over and thus so was her duties. History was her only subject anyway, English was in the for the afternoon. Ignoring the students, Lyca walked out and headed for the canteen. I'm hungry. Back in the room, the class had paused in their motions. Ms. Ashvrn, their student teacher of a questionable sadistic personality, had just walked out of class without giving them homework. |
